Jinx is a Dire wolf without a pack. Kicked out of the house by his king, and living with a vampire named Jez, Jinx has been trying to undo the damage he’d unintentionally caused during the reign of the Dire ghost army, which unleashed some of Purgatory’s worst monsters on the world at large. But when he hears that an unshifted Were is being held in a psychiatric hospital, he immediately drops everything to help her.
Gillian Black has no idea what’s happening to her—and Jinx discovers that she’s not just any Were, but a Dire wolf from the original Greenland pack. He helps her escape and promises to keep her safe from the men—and wolves—who are hunting her, and teach her everything about being a wolf.
He must also fight his feelings, wanting to claim her as his mate…at least until after he defeats the supernatural enemies that threaten all of them.

Dire Desires' main story is the pairing of Jinx and Gillian. Jinx recently made the choice to separate from his Dire pack in an attempt to save them from a costly mistake he made. For now, he's working aside a vampire, Jez and the two are doing what they can to make the world safe again. When their monster hunt leads them to a mental institution, Jinx is surprised to find Gillian, a beautiful patient who has no idea she's a Dire. Now, his primary mission is to free her and make sure she's never harmed again.
While that story plays out, there are many other side stories told as well (Rogue, Jinx' twin; Jinx' big whoops; Jez' prophesied future; Liam, the young King of Manhattan pack; Liam's Alpha and Omega - Cyd and his twin, Cain; Cain and his former-FBI boyfriend; Liam, Meg and Violet; Vice and his new charge and lost love). So many that I started to worry this may be the final book in the series. I checked Tyler's website and there's no word either way, so because of that and the way that this installment ended, I'm choosing to believe there will be more Dire stories to come.
I thoroughly enjoy this series and look forward to ... Vice and Eydis' story next. <-- wishful thinking, most likely
4.75 stars I love how this world expands by introducing new issues, characters and situations; and I'm rather fond of the way it contracts by resolving issues and that sometimes its the final decision for a character. For this third installment, Jinx finds his mate in Gillian Black an unknown of female Dire that has been locked away for years. He's also still fighting his own issues with the purgatory thing while trying to keep Rifter and his brothers at a distance yet rebuild his twin bond with Rogue, plus he feels he needs to both complete and delay his mating. When Jinx helps Gillian escape that opens the door for Angus to return, getting closer to the Greenland pack and helps smooth the way to put Rifter's pack back together. I mostly liked them as a couple, but singly Gillian was a little difficult for me. I thought of her as an overexcited puppy and I wanted to smack her nose more than once. But she seemed to be a good mate for Jinx. Jez stepped up to the plate in a big way putting paid to the legendary wolf-vamp feud. Hefty cameos from the other Dires and the were mini-pack helped to wrap a few long running threads and loaded new and exciting issues to the hopper. (Making me wish I had waited until the series was complete before reading.)
My Rating:4 stars: Enjoyed - strongly recommend (A-) Originally posted at That's What I'm Talking About e-ARC provided by publisher for honest review
Gillian Black has been institutionalized for much of her teen years. Never knowing what was wrong, only that she didn’t fit, she yearns to run free, naked in the woods. When Dire wolf Jinx and vampire Jez investigate monster sightings at the institution, they discover Gillian and realize that she is a Dire wolf on the verge of shifting for the very first time.
Almost feral in nature, Gillian sees Jinx as an opportunity to escape, but doesn’t trust that he’ll keep her safe. The pair make it out of the hospital and to the Dire mansion, where the rest of the Dire clan welcome Gillian. However, she only feels comfortable with Jinx, so when he leaves, she escapes and follows him.
The third book of the Eternal Wolf Clan series starts at a fast pace and doesn’t slow down for quite a while. Not only do we learn about Gillian, but the story attempts to bring the reader up to speed with all of the happenings since the last book. One thing about this series is that there are always a few side stories that are featured almost as prominently as the “main storyline.” While I mostly enjoy this, sometimes it makes reading the story difficult to follow. For example, the first few chapters were choppy and the dialogue sometimes too vague, and if I didn't know the background it would have been tough to follow. But a recap was laid out and everything "big" from the previous two books was mentioned, so newcomers to the series could probably pick up Dire Desires without having read the first two books.
Even with the few difficulties I experienced reading the opening chapters, the storyline was pretty engrossing, and I really enjoyed the book overall. And after the first six or seven chapters, that roughness seemed to disappear, and the story flowed more smoothly.
I adored Gillian and Jinx. The fact that she is a full-blooded Dire (the first female one in the stories thus far) added dimension to her character and allowed the author to create a wonderful match between Gillian and Jinx. She was his equal (or better) physically, and her innocence and naivety never were the cause for Gillian to make poor decisions. The pair were sweet and romantic, but also hot and sexy.
The fact that Gillian was institutionalized for so long and that her parents are willing to pay an exorbitant ransom for her return when they have been so blatantly ignoring her creates quite the mystery. Trying to discover Gillian’s past and following her as she tries to remain free creates some suspense and a lot of excitement. The storyline was very entertaining.
As I mentioned earlier, there are other side storylines that are featured in Dire Desires. While it created some confusion for me at first, I enjoyed all of them. I won’t take the time to go into each, but I want to mention a couple that I discussed in my reviews of the earlier books. First, there is quiet a bit on the weres, and Liam’s quest to fulfill is place as king and reunited his packs. Together with the twins Cyd and Cain (who were trained by the Dires), the trio mature and make significant headway on their quest. Second, ex-FBI agent Angus Black is back in town, changed from his experiences detailed in the past two books. I am really happy with the direction his character is heading, and I enjoyed every moment he was featured on the pages. Well, there is one exception that comes at the very end of the book. Let’s just say I am EXTREMELY unhappy with the turn of events because Angus is left in a bit of a cliffhanger situation; however, I’m willing to overlook it for now, depending on the outcome in the next story. Even with that, both of these side stories add significant depth and interest to the book overall.
The conclusion of Gillian’s storyline was satisfactory, although a bit easy when it comes to her parents, but overall very enjoyable. As I mentioned above, some of the side stories are left open-ended, and there was an epilogue that I believe sets up the next book.
Overall I enjoyed Dire Desires, and it’s my favorite of the series thus far. Gillian and Jinx make a great pair. I liked the conflict caused by Gillian's parents and her perceived mental illness. I loved Cain and Angus, and I liked the heroic nature of vampire Jez. One great thing about the book is that much of the previous open-ended nature of the series was brought forth and either concluded, or there was significant progress made in a positive direction. Although I was not happy with what happened to Angus at the end of the book, overall Dire Desires is a wonderful read.
Dire Desires is the third installment in the Eternal Wolf Clan series written by Stephanie Tyler. I will admit that jumping in on the third book was a little challenging at the start due to the story being told from several characters points of view, and their histories with each other, but not so difficult that it detracted from the story. Which I highly enjoyed. Stephanie Tyler has been an author I’ve had in my TBR pile for a while and am happy I got the opportunity to dive in.
Jinx is a Dire Wolf, (think immortal super werewolf) and he can see ghosts. After being tricked into opening Purgatory in the previous book he is now dealing with the fallout. Not only is he currently on the outs with his King, but his brother is in a coma and he’s discovered that several beasts from Purgatory have escaped into the world. Now focusing on tracking down the monsters before they do too much damage he gets a lead on one wreaking havoc in a local psychiatric hospital. On the way to check it out Jinx, and his vampire roommate Jez, get word that a wolf has been a patient there for several years after her parents believed her to be suffering from mental illness. Once Jinx walks into her holding room he is not only shocked to discover that she is in fact a Dire wolf, but also his mate.
Gillian has been living in a drugged up haze for the past several years. A traumatic event in her past caused her adoptive parents to have her locked up fearing that she was dangerous to herself and those around her. In her muddled mind she knows she doesn’t belong in a hospital, but she also knows she doesn’t feel like a normal human being anymore. Under the cover of darkness she often escapes to run through the forest located behind the facility. She always returns though, believing that there is no place for her to go. Then out of the blue a man walks into her room claiming he’s there to rescue her. Get her out of that horrible place. She knows in her head that she shouldn’t trust him, but something inside her is telling her to go to him. That he is someone who will change her life for the better. That he is offering her the chance at freedom she’s been yearning for.
Though Jinx and Gillian’s relationship can be categorized as insta-love, as so many in this genre tend to be, it works for me in this book. Jinx treading water in his depression and self-loathing had been granted a gift in the form of a beautiful, strong woman to cherish and protect. Taking hold of his heart and pulling him out of the depths of his despair. Being a prisoner herself, due to misunderstandings by all parties in her life, Gillian was rescued by a strong and caring man who offered her freedom, love, and the chance to get to know herself as the woman she truly is. Under his protection she is given the opportunity to explore every aspect of being a Dire, and while there are several surprises along this journey you can feel the happiness that Gillian projects at getting the opportunity to thrive as the person she was born to be.
This book was fairly quick paced. Full of action and romance. The sideline plots were also an interesting detour from the main storyline and appear that they are an extension from the two previous books in the series. The supporting characters all added greatly to the world Stephanie has created here and I found myself wanting to read the previous installments so I can get a better handle on their stories. I will also be waiting patiently for the next book in this series to be written and released.
In summary, if you like strong alpha males...and even stronger female heroines thrown into a paranormal world of magic, love, and hellhounds I definitely recommend you pick up this title.
Dire Desires is a bit complicated for anyone who didn't start at book one (this is book three). The first chapter itself led me to believe that Vice was the lead character when it is in fact, Jinx. Once I cleared up the subject of who was the hero I still had to figure out what had gone on in previous books that lead to the situation Jinx is in now.
There were many other little facts that I had to figure out, like who was mated and to whom? And the back stories of each character that appeared in previous books. Most of the information was scattered throughout the entire book so I had to wait to find out the answers to questions that were driving me crazy. There are a whole lot of characters in this book and it wasn't easy keeping them all straight, in fact, it was rather tiring at times.
However, Stephanie Tyler kept me interested by way of all the action scenes, great characters and humor. Jez the vampire in particular was highly entertaining and I found myself wanting to know more about him. Jinx is a steady hero, who has deep regrets and punishes himself constantly for what he's done in the past, but he is always ready to help his friends and family. He's loyal, stubborn, and self sacrificing. Gillian, the heroine is intelligent, tough, unpredictable and wild. All fitting for someone who didn't know they were a wolf.
Bottom line: I'll be adding the previous books to my TBR.
Dire Desires is a hard core paranormal romance, it's full of creatures that go bump in the night, bloody, graphic battles and sexy scenes, but before you read this one, do yourself a favor and read the series from the beginning, it will save you time, a bit of a headache and, I believe, will make Dire Desires much more enjoyable.
My thanks to Night Owl Reviews & Penguin Publishing for letting me review this fantastic book.
A full review will be posted on the Night Owl Reviews website.
This book opened up an intriguing new world for this eager reader to explore. ASAP !!! At first the plot was a little complicated for me to follow. Probably because it is part of an ongoing series that I had *gasp* yet to discover. Yet, the writer made it easy for me to play catch up with the many different characters & interesting things that were going down. She deftly made the switch between several different points of focus that normally would've made my head go spinning in multiple directions. The intriguing plot helped a bit with that by keeping my interest focused. I wanted to find out what was going on with everybody. I desperately wanted Jinx & Gillian to get together. And I really wanted to save one of the characters that ended up getting kinda sacrificed. The story definitely was not lacking in the suspense department. The story was incredibly well written & it's storyline flowed perfectly, even for a newcomer such as myself. Definitely kept me on the edge of my seat & sprung a few surprises on me too.
I really enjoyed reading the book & will definitely be checking out the rest of the series.
I am a big Stephanie Tyler fan and I was really looking forward to this. I was patiently waiting to see where the Dire wolf series was headed, but this just left me wanting more. I think too much time passed between books...I needed to do a quick te-scan of books 1 and 2. This is definitely not a stand alone read.
Book 3 picks up after the gates of hell have been closed and both Rogue and Jinx, the twins are suffering the after effects. Jinx is still somewhat estranged from Rifter's pack and he is out hunting when he rescues a patient from a local mental ward with the help of the always loyal vamp Jez. Gillian is the patient...she isn't crazy, she is wolf, she is a Dire, she is Jinx's mate! This bond however is kinda weak...not as passionate as prior matings. Together they have to figure out her past, stop the aftereffects of hell's opening, and stay alive from the weretrappers.
I will say though there is much happening in the background with Liam taking over as king, Cain longing for Angus, Vice delivering a baby...lots of pack craziness! I think the smoking hot chemistry with Cain and Angus was my fave part of this read. There is definitely more to this series as Angus is missing, Jez is gone, Vice is raising a Kid...kinda of multiple Cliffies in the end.
This, like the others in this series, is a good book for any werewolf lover. It is rough and fast and highly sexual. I was disappointed in the character development of the main female character in this story though. She didn't seem at all flushed out and most of the book was written from the POV of all the many males in the book. I would have liked to have seen more of her. That said, I was a fun sexy romp with plenty of action and sex. I was thrilled and impressed at the progressive gay male scenes in the book as well, as a bisexual person myself. There was no mention of the next book in the series but it definitely left you hanging, so I hope there is a next one coming soon. Def recommend to any supernatural romance fan. You won't be disappointed.
I enjoyed this book for all the long-running storylines. In it, we find out whether Liam will execute his mate, Max. The fate of Max's baby is decided. Rogue awakens, but is he fully back? Vice gets a new job. Cain's story progresses, with consequences.
For all of that, the main story between Jinx and Gillian suffers. It seems as if Jinx's problems with the creatures released from purgatory are an aside, and too easily solved--and not by him. I got tired of Gillian's running (as in literally running through the woods). The story thread of her kidnapping has almost anticlimactic end. I was more interested in Vice and Cain's stories. I look forward to reading more about them, and about Liam.
In spite of my griping, I recommend this series. It's unique in the world of wolf-shifter books.
OMG there is so much going on in this book, so many possibilities for future book.... I can't wait.
This book has so much going on I had to read it in spurts to process. I love this series. I see at least four books coming from this book so all I can really say is God I hope she writes fast because I really need my Dire fix.
My favorite of the series thus far, very glad I grabbed it the day after release on Kindle & dove in over the 4th! So much has happened, so much continues to happen, all of the characters are back to compliment one another in the main storyline, there were some wonderful & horrible twists & happenings, & the build up for the next installment was crazy. :) *Full review to come for 7/11 Event
Dire Desires by Stephanie Tyler is the third book in her Eternal Wolf Clan series and it is an excellent read! I am looking forward to the next book in this unique wolf-shifter series and hope it will be coming soon. It is a definite recommendation to anyone who enjoys paranormal action and romance books.
I really enjoyed Jinx's story! This series is one of my favorites and I am glad that in each book you not only have the main characters but you also get updates on the characters from the previous 3 books.
All i can say is...OMG! When will the next one be out! Jinx has always been one of my faves ( well, Vice too). If you didn't love him before you will now.
Two lost Dires , Jinx and Gillian fall for each other at first sight. Their attraction so strong it's as if they are one. This book is full of strong characters of the paranormal world; Dries, Weres, vampires, witches, hellhounds and hell bound monsters. Now what happens when someone opens hell and allows the unholy to escape? What happens when Dires, Weres, and vampires work together for the same reason? What happens when a Were pup is born ? What happens when weretrappers threaten all the Dires and Weres ? What happens when the mortal Dires learn more of their history and kind ? This read is full of emotions, suspense, action, mystery, life, love and death.
Stephanie Tyler's talent brings all this together in a believable form. One can almost picture these characters as neighbors. She has presented another great read. You will laugh, cry and be on the edge of your seat. This is definitely a series to read and allow Stephanie to take you into another world. I just hope there's at least another to come that goes further in the future.
Quick & Dirty: While hunting a monster from purgatory, Jinx discovers Gillian in a mental hospital. He rescues her and begins to teach her all about being a Dire wolf. Their peace doesn’t last, however, as Gillian’s parents want her back. Will they be able to stay together?
Opening Sentence: When she dragged in with the old blanket draped over her naked shoulders, she knew she still wore the wildness in her eyes like the chill of a winter night.
The Review:
I should start by saying I have not read the previous books in the Eternal Wolf Clan series, and this could definitely have had something to do with my feelings on this book. While Stephanie Tyler tries her best to get readers up to speed on the events of previous books, I still spent a large portion of the first half of the book feeling as if I was missing something. This caused me to not really connect to any of the characters until late in the story, and by then, it was pretty much too late for me to really enjoy the book.
Our hero is Jinx, a Dire wolf who can see ghosts. In a previous book, he opened the door to purgatory and is now dealing with the aftermath. Hellhounds and other monsters are popping up everywhere, and it’s Jinx’s job to try and catch them and figure out a way to send them back to where they belong. On a tip, Jinx and his vampire roommate Jez visit a local psychiatric hospital in search of a purgatory monster. While there, Jinx discovers a woman, Gillian, who’s been locked up in the hospital by her family. Unbeknownst to her, she is in fact a Dire wolf, and it is her very nature as such that causes her to act in the manner that got her locked up in the first place. Jinx and Jez stage a rescue, and Jinx begins to teach her everything he knows about being a Dire wolf. Gillian’s parents won’t give her up easily though and offer a multi-million dollar reward for Gillian’s safe return. Will Jinx and Gillian be able to further explore their growing feelings for each other, or will Gillian be taken back to the psychiatric hospital? Will the doors to purgatory ever be shut again?
Liam is trying to establish his Kingship over the rest of the Weres. While some clans accept him easily, others are not so easily swayed. This leads Liam and the rest of his pack, Cain and Cyd, to have to fight multiple enemies as Liam tries to establish a strong foothold. At the same time, Liam’s former mate is about to give birth to a son whose place in the world is undecided due to Liam’s mate’s infidelity. Suffice to say, he has a lot on his mind. Will his life ever calm down?
The story is told from multiple points of view and switches very often, which could have been partly responsible for why I had a hard time connecting to any of the characters. My two favorite characters were Vice and Jez, and they were unfortunately not in nearly enough scenes to keep my interest peaked. Neither Jinx nor Gillian seemed to me to have much personality, so I really couldn’t feel connected to them. Plus, their story is a case of what I call “insta-love”, where as soon as they meet, they know they’re supposed to be together. I much prefer a romance where the reader can see the feelings developing between the two main characters, rather than the characters instantly loving and feeling connected to each other. As a result, I often found myself annoyed rather than interested when they would declare their feelings for each other.
All in all, I just wasn’t super impressed with this story. I think if Vice or Jez were to be the main hero of one of the next books, I might be persuaded to give the series another try, as they were the characters who injected a lot of humor into the story and actually brought it to life. Otherwise, I’m not planning on going back and starting the series from the beginning.
Notable Scene:
“Maybe I should call them and tell them to bring more beer.”
“Or maybe you could answer my question.” Jinx eyed him steadily.
“Angus Young saved Gillian.”
“The guy from AC/DC was in the woods?” she asked, and Cain said, “I kind of love that you know who he is.”
“Are you kidding? I love their music,” she said with the first smile he’d seen all afternoon.
“Okay, hold up. Before you two bond over your love of classic rock, Cain’s talking about an FBI agent.”
“Former,” Cain said. “He’s a hunter now.”
“And don’t hunters hunt…us?” Gillian asked.
“It’s really goddamned complicated.” Cain told her as he went to fiddle with the incredibly complicated sound system Jez had installed in here before the opening strains of “Let There Be Rock” rang out overhead. “Want a beer?”
“Yes!” She accepted one and they knocked their cans together and he half expected them to break out lighters and sway together to the song.
FTC Advisory: Signet/Penguin provided me with a copy of Dire Desires. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.
"Dire Desires" by Stephanie Tyler. Book 3 (final) in the Eternal Wolf Clan Trilogy.
I totally would have given this book a solid 4 stars but I'm only giving it a 3 because the ending ticked me off!
OK...let me start with the part that ticked me off first. The author's website clearly states that this series is a trilogy. I expect at the end of a trilogy for all storylines (main plot and subplots) to be resolved...well in this book there are storylines that are left unresolved and new storylines are started and you are left hanging as to what happens! I thought maybe the stories continued in a cross-over series or something, but I can't find anything telling me that.
So besides that, I actually liked this book. It's the best of the three. The main storyline is about Jinx, an immortal Dire wolf that can talk to ghosts, and Gillian, a Dire wolf who doesn't know she's a wolf.
In the last book, Jinx accidentally opened purgatory and let out some pretty nasty creatures. He was able to close purgatory but now, all those creatures are out and it's Jinx's responsibility to send them to hell where they belong. At the same time, he has found out that a female wolf is being held in a psychiatric hospital for a "mental illness." When he meets Gillian, he knows right away that she's not just a Were, she's a Dire wolf and he's pretty sure that she's his mate.
Gillian has been in a psychiatric hospital for about five years. When she started talking about wolves, become more violent and wanted to run naked under the moonlight, her parents had her committed. Now, she's been saved by a man named Jinx who explains to her why she's feeling the way she does; she's a wolf. It explains a lot but he didn't explain why she is so attracted to him. She has no interest in the other wolves she's surrounded by, just him.
As Jinx struggles with his issues of being not good enough for Gillian and Gillian struggles to find out the mystery of her past, their romantic relationship cannot be denied. Now throw in Liam, the King of the Weres, dealing with the betrayal of his ex-mate and a new baby. Then add Cain, one of Jinx's young Were charges dealing with his attraction to a human man named Angus. And lastly, add in Vice, a Dire wolf who's been training Liam to be King and is now a babysitter! Mix all these storylines together and you get a really interesting book.
Now, as I said early, some of these storylines are not resolved in this book and I really wish they would be. I only found one inconsistancy, that being the last name of one of the characters...but then I thought 'Was that really a mistake or done on purpose?' (Guess I'll never know.) Other than that, the storyline itself was really good. As I've said in my other reviews of the other books, I really ended up liking all of the characters. The overall series plot was very interesting.
I do not like giving books less than 4 stars but this book fell short of my 4 star expectations. It contained numerous side stories that felt mill pieced together. The story lines seemed to jump without a natural flow. Then the book ended with multiple unanswered questions and it appears there is no sequel in the near future. Just so disappointing to finish a book that is four years old and find out there is no sequel to answer the cliff hanging questions.
Dire Desires: A Novel of the Eternal Wolf Clan comes several installments after the last book I read from this series: Dire Needs. Although that book wasn’t perfect, I definitely enjoyed it. So I wonder what happened between then and now to bring my opinion of the series down so far.
I knew there was trouble as soon as I encountered the ‘glossary’ in the front of the book. It has at least one entry that’s a full page long, and they’re all oversized. It isn’t a glossary: it’s an info-dump attempting to bring the reader up to speed on the world. This is the worst way to do this. If Tyler felt she needed to put a story-so-far summary up front, she should have just done that. This ‘glossary’ just makes things even more confusing since it’s organized poorly and jumps from thing to thing.
The pacing of the book is choppy. There’s little variation in the pacing and there’s no buildup to things. Sex scenes are brief and not given any time to build up energy and sexiness. Emotional scenes are given similar short shrift. Everything feels very matter-of-fact. I couldn’t feel attached to the characters, couldn’t feel excited by the plot, and so on. There’s also so much going on that the whole story feels… scattered. Tyler seems to be trying to give equal time to everything going on, and in so doing, leaves the book without a coherent focus.
If I went back and read Dire Needs again, I wonder if I’d find that things had simply deteriorated since then, or that it wasn’t nearly as good on the second read-through?
Dire Desires, the 3rd book in the Eternal Wolf clan series; Jinx a dire wolf currently who fell out with his pack is living with a vampire, Jez and had been trying to undo the damage he’d unintentionally caused during the reign of the Dire ghost army, which unleashed some of Purgatory’s worst monsters on the world at large. However, when he hears that an unshifted Were was being held in a psychiatric hospital, he drops everything to help her. The story begins when Jinx met Gillian Black when he realised that she’s not a Were but a Dire wolf from the Greenland pack. Gillian Black has no idea what’s happening to her and she’d resigned her fate of being locked in a psychiatric hospital till she met Jinx who clearly discovered a certain puzzlement. He helped her escape and promises to help her escape and enlighten her about being a wolf rather than a human.
It was kind of clear that in this book that Gillian was indefinitely his Mate; the author takes a slow approach in bridging the connection between Jinx and Gillian which is a little irritating as a reader. But, towards the end I can understand the reason why the author took this approach; I loved the interaction between Jez and the other Dires, the Were pack rules to “kill” Meg for her betrayal etc. Overall, I think this book consists of different types of relationships which I come to feel for.
This book is kind of an open-ended in which I am secretly rooting for a new book which features Vice and Eydis. I’ll definitely support the rest of the books by Stephanie Tyler and I hope that everyone has come to loved the Dire series as much as I do.
The third book in Stephanie Tyler’s Eternal Wolf Clan Series, Dire Desires, provides an exciting mix of paranormal romance with a healthy dose of romantic suspense all rolled into one. Although this can be read as a separate book because Stephanie Tyler does a good job of providing a bit of the back story so you know what has happened, I would highly recommend reading the first two books in the series for a couple of reasons. One, she is a really good writer and the series has an interesting storyline, and two, it will give you more depth about the secondary characters within this novel. In Dire Desires Mrs. Tyler provides plenty of action in the quest for the Dire wolf Jinx to undo the damage he caused when he opened purgatory. Add to this a strong female heroine named Gillian who just happens to be a Dire wolf herself and you get a roller coaster of twists, turns, and thrills that continue to excite long after you are done reading. The integral subplots with the additional supernatural beings (and a couple of humans) just add icing to this cake and leaving you wishing for the next book in the series.
This is definitely a series that needs to be read in order as there are so many ongoing plots that revolve around each character though each one (hopefully) will get his own story.
This one is Jinx's story though we find out whether Liam will execute his cheating mate (as demanded by history) and what will happen to the baby that isn't Liam's. Cain gets back with Angus but will circumstances still separate these mates? And yay Rogue awakens but is he really back and free from hell's influence?
Jinx finally gets his HEA but poor Gillian, she's been institutionalized for years because she's crazy and violent...or is she? I really liked the conclusion to this couple and look forward to out who Rogue's mate is though I can already guess. I can't wait to see how Vice handles his new responsibilities and I'm pretty sure who his mate is too and it'll be an interesting fight for both of them.
