The beginning is very boring and way too long as well as the chapters are kind of too long. But it gets a lot better as you get more into it and maybe one of the most influential books I've read yet.
A pretty straight forward book with a pretty straight forward message: men need to get back to being men. John hits this point over and over—every guy needs a battle to fight, an adventure to have, and a beauty to love. I can agree with most of what he’s saying (even if his utilization of scripture is a bit haphazard in the first half). It’s like listening to someone with a great conclusion give both great and confounding reasons for pursuing masculinity in one’s life (as a man)—some things you agree with, some sound a little concerning but you get what he’s trying to say, and some you just have acknowledge are coming from someone who’s just passionate about what they’re talking about.
I thought the Q&A at the back of my copy was helpful in answering some of the questions I had (and clearly many readers will share), and ultimately John raises some valid questions that should give every male reader pause to ask himself where he might be stumbling, and what is gonna do about it?
