As I sit here on the beach, waiting for Eric to finish his Princely duties, I realize I’m feeling a little homesick. Of course, what better way to pass the time then to read. Romance isn’t going to help my mood today though, so I pick up a suspense novel. I chose Deviate by Sally Slayer and let me tell you I’m still a little wrapped up in the story. Cleo has been on the run her entire life but never knew it. After the death of her father and then a few years later her mother she learns that she’s a product of strange events. It took me about 9 or 10 chapters to really get into the book but when I did it was quite interesting. At first I was extremely confused because the author jumps ahead weeks and years without any transitions so I had to re-read a few things. It wasn’t until around chapter 8 that I started to understand the plot. The further the story continued the more I became invested, so when it ended I was very disappointed I would have to wait for the sequel. While I’m still confused about some things, I’m more curious as to how the story is going to play out. If you are the type of person who loves to be kept on their toes while they read and enjoy putting a story together like a puzzle then you will enjoy Deviate.
This book starts out really strange. It jumps all over the place and I had no idea what was going on. There was a lot of intriguing things happening but it was very odd. Apparently Cleo was genetically experimented on when her mother was pregnant with her and because of that she sees her guardian angel in a mirror. That is all I could gather for seven chapters. I think the developing and pacing of this story needs work. The plot is interesting but it doesn't quite come together perfectly. It is a quick read and it held my interest. I couldn't get a feel for the characters as they weren't fleshed out enough and needed more developing also. 3 stars.
This book starts out really strange. It jumps all over the place. I had no idea what was going on. However, I loved the twists this book took! Great writing, great characters.
I won this as a Goodreads first reads giveaway, thank you.
