In 1997 the Sinclairs were a typical Ohio family, on the cusp of a successful new tech endeavor. That is until three members of the family were brutally murdered in their home on June 13th. The only survivor was the youngest daughter, Amy, who was rendered mute after the demise of her parents and brother. Orphaned and unable or unwilling to speak, Amy was remanded to a Catholic home in another city. Six months later, seven residents of that school met a similar, grizzly fate and young Amy vanished without a trace. Today two armchair detectives come together over their shared interest in the cold case and decide to investigate in hopes of bringing the perpetrator to justice and hopefully discovering the fate of Amy. Through a series of interviews, documents, and online research the two web sleuths begin to form a picture of what led to the violent murders and how Amy and her mysterious uncle were connected. As the pieces come together the pair begin to suspect that the victims may not have died by human hands and a more supernatural force may be to blame.
I was so excited to read this book just based on the premise. I love true crime, thrillers and horror, and this book combines all three masterfully. I loved learning about the various characters in the book and watching them evolve before my eyes as the story unfolds. The writing is fast paced and quirky, at times hilarious and is sprinkled with pop culture references that made me nod and smile in recognition on more than one occasion.
This is a fun summer read, and I recommend it to anyone!
What a fun book! It reads like you are watching a true crime documentary, which is a new way to read that I never knew I needed in my life. I truly enjoyed this book! I look forward to reading more from Jason Fozzie Nelson!
I must say, I honestly loved this author’s style of writing. It was refreshing to read something new and different from what I normally choose. I was immediately hooked, and enjoyed the subtle references to so many things I recognized. Add that to all of the humor sprinkled throughout, and it made it hard for me to put this book down. Highly recommend!
Always so love to support a friend!! Always by my side was written using interviews/news reports etc and I absolutely loved that! I have never read a book using this format and it kept me hooked the whole time. Just spooky enough too!
