I did enjoy this unique, creative story, but it took me awhile to get into it and it was hard to focus and keep my attention on what was happening. I really wanted to love this book, but it was confusing to me at times and hard to follow in my opinion.
Tropes: PNR, fantasy romance, friends to lovers, fated mates, fallen angels, save the world themes, morally grey MCs
Review: A new angel/demon/Nephilim romance that sets the stage for a strong series with all your favorite Archangels. In this dual POV fantasy read we meet Morena and Jaxon who are childhood best friends who love each other but are blind to how the other feels.
Morena’s back story was interesting. Susan takes a new route for the daughter of Lucifer and Lilith. I enjoyed how Lilith was not portrayed under the same story in this book as she normally is and loved how she was queen of the Night Children or vampires. I felt like Rena’s character was a dichotomy since she is so young yet so mature in her desire to choose her life plan. The idea that she gets the chance to explore Earth for 1 year before choosing which realm to rule over was new and exciting and I loved how she evolved and made her choices in this book.
Jax is a fierce MMC and I enjoyed how devoted he was to Rena. I loved how his vow to serve was done to her and not her parents but that he also just wanted to be by her side. Jax’s main conflict in this story was him not wanting to be a Night Child and having to become one after being stabbed with an angelic blade. After his transition, I enjoyed how Rena came to his rescue and helped him learn about his new lifestyle.
This book is very intense and begins the sets the stage for a ton of epic battle scenes to come. I enjoyed how Rena, Jax, Lilith and Lucifer all banded together to save everyone from Azazel. I also liked how Susan incorporated all the well-known archangels in this story and created unique ties to Rena and her parents. The final battle scene was very well written and sucked you in to the last sentence. I enjoyed how Rena and Jax fought for each other and stood up to everyone to be together and to save the human realm.
In this period it is becoming trending to read Hades and Persephone retellings or other books related to the underworld. This is no less, but has a notable difference: Morena, our FMC is none other than the daughter of Lucifer and Lilith herself (or the devil?). Being who she is, she has always wrapped in a cotton wool, believing that her life was already fixed by the will of her parents… but first, she wants to at least taste a little freedom, and to do this, she decides to live a year in anonymity in the human world.
What can go wrong? Many, too many things, starting from the fact that her parents decide that she can't go alone and saddle her with Jax as a sort of grown-up babysitter. But guess what? Although they are in a seemingly normal world, although they are stronger than an average person, the danger is always there, waiting, and they will find themselves facing enemies much bigger than them, within a struggle with roots much deeper than it seems and in the middle of an unknown and potentially dark path.
It goes without saying that fighting for their lives and for what they believe in, both of our main characters will discover new things about themselves and about each other, and something will move between them, forged in danger and with a foundation of years of expectations. And this is how feelings will begin to blossom, mature and come to the surface. 𝐴𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑎𝑙𝑙, 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑚𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑢𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑓𝑒𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑏𝑜𝑟𝑛 𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑐𝑖𝑟𝑐𝑢𝑚𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑠 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑠𝑒?
For 21 years Morena had always just believed herself to JUST be Lucifer and Lilith's daughter. Knowing her life was already planned out for her, either become the Queen of Hell or Mother of the Night Children.
Morena wanted a year in the Overworld to be just her. To live among the humans who would not look at her was whom her patents were, but neither Lucifer nor Lilith were going to send their only child off on her own. Jax, Morena's childhood best friend/love, had volunteer to be her guard while in the overworld. Morena did not like this idea because Jax had been distance over the year due to his "duty" to Lucifer. While Jax's has vowed to be anything and everything for Morena.
Within their trip to the overworld Morena and Jax are tested over and over again. Morena will learn more about herself within the next couple weeks than she has her whole life. While Jax will finally realize that Morena is his everything and stop hiding for his feelings.
We follow a love story but also an inter-self story of growth.
Fallen was definitely a unique twist on the paranormal. Vampires, the devil himself, demons and archangels this book is filled with unexpected twists and danger. Rena thinks that she is finally going to experience a year on earth, away from her parents and free to experience life like the humans. However things quickly take a turn and she finds herself fighting for not only her life, but Jax's as well. She wants to deny her feelings for him, but she is no longer able to fight the connection she feels when he is around. When her world is turned upside down and she is forced to decide if she wants to claim her spot as the future queen of the underworld or become the next messenger for the angels the action really becomes intense. Hold onto your seat and get ready to be taken for a ride. This book will have you hooked and dying to know what's going to happen next. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book.
This story follows Morena, who is Lilith and Lucifer's daughter. It follows her story of trying to save the world with family members working against her. The beginning was slow but overall had a great premise. I liked how her wings were purple. Honestly, the cover is gorgeous too. I love the color combinations. I got confused on what was happing a few times in the book. I just felt like nothing would be happening, and everything happening there was in between. There was plenty of action. Morena has much room to grow, and I’m excited to see how the story progresses. Jax had to be my favorite character in the book because he cares more for others than himself, which is proven repeatedly in the book. I look forward to seeing how the series progresses!
This is an entertaining PNR storyline with action, adventure, betrayal, miscommunication, drama, and twists. The MCs are defined, engaging, have chemistry and attraction, and suppressed feelings for one another. The world-building is very good in this enjoyable book. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
6.5/10 This was pretty’s slow for me starting out and took me a little while to get into it, but I thought it was pretty creative and I’m looking forward to seeing where the rest of this story goes!
This book should have been more than one book. It felt rushed and not as descriptive as I think it could have been. That being said the story itself was great and loved the characters. It might be helpful to have an index for all the different characters and if there angel, demon, or etc. I would suggest reading this book.
So good, can't wait to dive into book 2. Daughter of Lilith and Lucifer, demons, angels and vampires and a race to stop a war they didn't know was happening.
