What could be more heady than the surrender of a powerfully dominant woman?
Dom Damien Lowell has always respected Domme Catrina Davidson. He likes the way she interacts with her subs, confident, kind, firm. And for years he’s fantasised about her submitting to him. What could be hotter than having the sexy Domme squirming beneath his lash?
One evening, Damien challenges her, saying she’d be a much better Domme if she experienced submission…to him.
Catrina doesn’t have a single, submissive tendency. But she’s oh-so turned on when she watches a sub respond to him. A secret part of her is intrigued, and she asks herself, what harm can come from giving him two weeks?
Over the next fortnight, she is introduced to the pleasures and perils of servitude. She has to admit that he’s right—her understanding of submission is deeper, more profound, than it would have been otherwise. But the private experiences they share in the Den leave her emotionally shattered, making her question everything she thought she knew.
In her unique way, Catrina too, challenges Damien, forcing him to grow as a Dom, and he wonders how the hell he’ll ever be able to let her go.
Sierra is a USA Today, International Best-Selling author who wrote her first book at age nine and hasn't stopped since. Sierra invites you to share the complex journey of love and desire, of surrender and commitment. Her own journey has taught her that trusting takes guts and courage, and her work is a celebration for everyone who is willing to take that risk.
Catrina is a Domme. She's a long-time, respected member of her local BDSM club, the Den, she has plenty of play partners, and though she may occasionally have some twinges about the lack of emotional connection in life, by and large she seems pretty content with her lot.
Damien is a Dom, in fact the Dom, the owner of the Den. In the early scenes narrated from his POV, he mentions that the Den doesn't have a lot of Dommes but that he has totes respect for those there are, and he'd never, ever, ever try to undermine their authority by treating them like subs ... but he has horny pants for Cat and he's The Dom, so... yeah.
He asks her to sub for him. She tells him to fuck off. He asks her pretty, pretty please (and says it'll make her a better domme when the experiment is over). She says fuck off (but starts to think, well, maybe....). He gets all masterful and sexy and shit, and her resolve weakens (because she's a girl, right, and all girls secretly want to be dominated, of course), and so she agrees to be his sub for two weeks.
Then, though she starts the two week experiment totally planning to go back to being the dominant when it's over, they predictably start to fall in lurve, and she starts to wake up to the glory of submission while Damien doesn't compromise at all (sometimes he thinks about how dickish he's being and how he really ought to be more decent, but then, somehow, he's all, nah), until by the end of the book she's not interested in dominating men anymore and he's the Best. Dom. Ever.
It is vexing when a Domme in a story is "forced" into seeing she's really a submissive, not a dominant. It is aggravating because it sends an insidious message that females are not really dominant. They are hiding their submission behind a cold disengaged facade. What it implies is the females become a dominatrix because she's either been rejected by a male or some other newfangled first world trumped up psychological disorder. In this story, it's the former. I'm feeling mixed about IN THE DEN.
Catrina Davidson is a much sought after Domme. She's really more of a Top than a Domme when a reader observes her interactions with her male bottoms. She is emotionally detached. She only services their sexual needs. This, to me, generally denotes service Top. She doesn't need or care for the intimacy or erotic power exchange based on trust and understanding. Instead, it's focused on the physical acts which result in mutual satisfaction. There is nothing wrong with this. Many people enjoy this and it can be plenty fun. Catrina's world is shifted when Damien Lowell, alpha Dom of this private BDSM club set his sights on her.
Let's stop for a moment. If this was reversed, and a Domme were to approach a Dom out of the blue, telling them that they are really submissive at heart, how do we think this would go over? Since Catrina didn't initiate the desire to test out the submissive side of the lifestyle, we'll go with the comparison of a Domme aggressively going after a well-known Dom and sticking a finger up his ass to entice him to submission.
Am I the only one that finds this offensive? It's not that I have a problem with people switching. I'm a switch. However, I prefer the dominant person to initiate the submissive contract. The way it's presented here, Damien is the know-it-all dominant who sees who Catrina really is, which is a submissive.
Despite the distaste left in my mouth from this premise, the BDSM is very good. Ms. Cartwright does an excellent job of showing the difference between D/s and Top/bottom. Although she does put Topping/bottoming in negative slant, the actions are still well demonstrated.
Damien is quite good at how to build trust into a relationship. He opens Catrina's eyes to what she's missing in her life. Damien's playfulness and how he keeps Catrina in an erotic haze is exquisite. I can work anywhere just like Catrina. I own a laptop and will travel. Damien creating a workspace for Catrina so he can intermingle BDSM throughout the workday is fabulous. It's a working submissive's fantasy come true. For me, it would be heaven. Just as everything seems to be going so well, Damien makes a faux pas which costs him quite a bit. This is a nice realistic touch. It makes Damien more human than a fantasy-perfect lover.
This D/s romance is recommended to those who want to see intimacy developed in a D/s relationship.
Sometimes, after several books an author’s writing quality starts to decrease. That’s not the case with In the Den, by Sierra Cartwright. In this novel, book 6 of the Mastered series, Ms. Cartwright delivers a fascinating story that sucked me right in from page one.
Personally, I don’t think it’s necessary to read the rest of the series before this one, but I highly recommend it as it’s nice to recognize some old characters and to get to know the mysterious owner of the Den, Damien Lowell, from the start.
The overall plot might not be innovative, but Cartwright’s writing is wonderful. The words flow easily, and as with earlier books I was seduced into the world she creates. Also, as I’ve mentioned in other reviews, she has a knack of teaching about the BDSM lifestyle through her books without detracting from the erotic, without making it seem like an actual lesson. Everything seems natural and the story rolls effortlessly.
Though In the Den is erotic beyond any words I could write here, what really makes it a great read is the love story between the characters. It was emotional, heady, full of unexpected little paths that left me wondering if they’d make in the end. After all, Damien was not falling for any girl. The woman to whom he had decided to dedicate all his affections was none other than the respected Domme Catrina Davidson.
Initially I was a bit hesitant about Catrina becoming a submissive. After all, she was a Domme, had been since forever and that made her awesome to my eyes. Nevertheless, this was also precisely why I was intrigued: How the hell was Damien going to bend her to his will? It would have definitely been very interesting to read if it had been done the other way, Catrina dominating Damien, but Ms. Cartwright still caught me up in the intricate romance that bloomed between these two.
And romance it was.
Damien is not only old-world manners, good looking, intelligent and wealthy. He’s seduction on two feet and he snuggles! He knows what he wants and he goes after it without hesitating, but when it comes to love, it was interesting to see a different side of Damien. I knew he was in love long before he figured it out.
Catrina is Damien’s equal in everything. More than once I found myself wondering what it would be like to be under her scrutinizing wide-eyed gaze. The path that Damien leads her into, was not easy to watch. More than once I found myself holding back tears with her, struggling with every step of wanting to submit but not quite getting there yet.
There is little more I can say about the sex: it is amazing, scorching, sizzling. The chemistry between the characters is off the charts (I’m still reliving that first kiss in my mind or the coffee table scene).
All in all, In The Den is a great novel, which I’ve already read twice and I know I will read again and again.
That was nice even if might be slightly confusing to readers. Catrina is a Domme in the beginning of this story and this might send a mixed signals to readers that women can't actually be ones and are being delusional about what they really want. I'm not sure woman topping in the story is my cup of tea but I believe lots of readers find it alluring as well as lots of women must really be D in the relationship they are having. In this case however it made perfect sense to me. Author showed motivation very well so it felt natural that Milady as Damien kept calling her throughout the book wasn't really one. As she showed in the other book of these series - On His Terms - real submission meant feelings otherwise it's just a sex with a kink. She was hurt and sulking and made herself into an iron lady so she won't be hurt ever again but for the right man she was willing to risk it all and open up. Also author reminded again that in D/s relationship it is really s who holds all the power not D. I like that author shows such a different relationships and different colors and variety of power exchanges that all fall into D/s and this shows there is no one right way of doing it and it's not all about bondages and flogging. Strict protocol, not so strict protocol - frame of mind is what's most important here. And feelings of course. You can manage without ones but no one is interested to read about that in a long run. PWP is good as an occasional one-night-stand but you still want human interaction to be able relate to heroes. Master Damien is taming Catrina like she is a wild horse - with being gentle and keeping his patience. To think about it - two weeks is a really short time to turn someone into smth they are not. Of course he put her in a bubble by keeping her close and always keeping her off balance. She expected to spend all this time in his dungeon being shackled to a wall or something instead he let her in into his inner circle and showed her how good it is to share one's life with someone and that was her undoing as well as his own. Btw, I like that Gregorio guy a lot. Pity he didn't get his own story. I hope it's "yet".
Damien. We've watched him, strong and silent, but ever present through 5 books, so it was a fitting end to this series for him to finally stand in the spotlight and shine in this book!
The strong Dom and the strong Domme. It was a novel concept. And I liked that she was willing to see it from "the other side", to take it as a learning experience. Little did she know that when she went to Master Damien, of her own free will, after their talk, that she would learn so much more than she bargained for.
I enjoyed the way she embraced being a submissive, even when she struggled a bit internally.
I liked this final chapter in the series, but I felt, that there were some things left out of the story, making the ending feel a little rushed. I would however, recommend it to anyone interested in this genre.
While I love reading a series from start to finish, this is one of those that each book could be a standalone, even though each book is centered around "The Den", there is enough information in each book to not *have* to read the other 5, although I highly recommend it. Especially the first book, With This Collar. My favorite book in this entire series.
Outside of the 2 main characters, Master Damien and Catrina, the one character that *has* been a constant in each book was Gregorio and I enjoyed his character in each of the 6 books. Would love to see him have a book of his own at some point. *hint hint, Ms. Cartwright!*
Damien is the owner and undisputed Master of the Den and when he sets his sights on a long-standing Domme, he knows it won't be simple or easy
Catrina has long since decided control is what she needs, and being a Domme always leaves her in that state. She doesn't feel it in her depths, but it is what she needs after watching her mother struggle in life and being let down by different men she was dating.
Damien makes the deal that she would be a better Domme if she submitted to him and she reluctantly agrees mostly because she is wildly attracted to the Dom but she tells herself it is for the reasons he stated
As they move through the time, Catrina finds her freedom in submitting to Damien and is unable to deny it, no matter how much she resists. Damien is honest from the onset that he won't fall in love with her. He wants to see the beauty in her submission and denies it is anything else
When Catrina finally concedes to Damien, he misses the opportunity completely and doesn't realize it until after the moment is long passed. Catrina cannot stay under these circumstances and flees and he lets her
Damien and Catrina have their showdown, and it is nothing that either expects
The clash of these two strong willed people is an exciting story, and the self-realization they both experience show neither is quite who ro what they thought they were
This book is the sixth and final book in the Mastered series by Sierra Cartwright and, like all the previous books, it is remarkable in its description of the BDSM lifestyle and the great storyline of the book. I have gone on and on in my previous reviews of the books in this series so I won't bore you with another lengthy review. Please see my previous reviews of the other books in this series. I think this is one of the best BDSM romance series that I have read, particularly if you are new to the genre or lifestyle. Another great book by Sierra Cartwright!
This book had me hooked, it was so interesting & kept you on your toes. I’ll definitely be picking up more of her books. I didn’t realize it was book #6. The trope was interesting not something I thought I’d be into.

This was one of my favs in the series. Loved the "Big Bad Dom". Loved that she had such inner turmoil to find her inner submissive. Definitely worth the read. I will read more
3.5. I liked this but I feel a little conflicted. I think maybe I would like to read a book about another domme to compare and come back to this review at a later time.
In the Den is a steamy billionaire Dominant emotion-filled romance novel. It's the sixth and final book in the Mastered Series. Sierra Cartwright has outdone herself with 'In the Den', the sixth book in her "Mastered" series. This is her 10th Anniversary Edition. It blew me out of the water as much this time as it did with the original storyline … maybe more so, as I've grown within myself and have a deeper appreciation for the nuances of a BDSM relationship. I've wanted all the details of Damien's story since the beginning. Tall, dark, and handsome with crystalline blue eyes that can see into your soul and his dark hair that curls at the base when down or in queue tied with a strip of leather. He's not only a Dom in every sense of the word but the owner of the BDSM club, The Den. Even though he has the utmost respect for the few Dommes who frequent the club as members and treat them as his equals, Damien fantasizes about having Catrina, aka Milady, submit to him. He's suggested and asked to no avail. Then, because when he wants something he finds a way to get it, Damien throws the ultimate challenge at her. Submit to him for two weeks to learn and experience with him and she will be a much more effective Domme to 'her boys'. Catrina enjoys the empowerment of being a Domme. She made that decision several years ago when she was put in a debilitating situation. Even though she thought Damien was hot and she had no intention of sceneing with him. That is until he had the nerve to challenge her. After some debate within herself, she figured out what could it hurt, except maybe her pride. The only alternative in her mind was to accept the challenge with a self-imposed caveat to keep her emotions out of it. I absolutely loved the natural progression this challenge took. Ms. Cartwright has not only told an incredible chemistry-filled story but she's brought the term of BDSM relationship into front and center, educating the reader while showing the results between Damian and Catrina. It was thrilling, sizzling, emotional, and heart-warming. But what happens after the two weeks? You'll have to read it to find out. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
“In the den, there’s only 1 rule: Total. Complete . Surrender”
Master Damien, always gets what he wanted. A dominant with sharpened senses, also feeds of creative energy.
Mistress Catrina - aka Milady. Excellent Mistress . Nevertheless getting on her knees for a man, ever again.
A challenge of 2 weeks. What would’ve it hurt? Catrina submitting to Damien. The challenge has begun. The breadcrumbs have been laid out for Catrina to follow. Will she choose to nibble and enter the Den of Damien’s abode? At the Den & home? Will she enjoy letting him take the lead? A challenge - unique but for whom? An understanding of BDSM relationship, more than just a sexual kink, an exchange of energy, focusing on another person, seeking their happiness, protection. A challenge of not only the mind but accepting Dominance. Will Catrina become the ‘Sub’. Will she understand ‘Submission’? Is being a Domme a safety zone for her?
Questions, questions, questions - answers found within the pages.
* no boredom in the 2 weeks extra curriculum 🫢🔥🔥🔥
I continuously refer to Catrina, but what of Damien? Was it just the Dominant satisfaction of having Catrina submit to him? Was his ego appeased? Not in a masochist way but in a Dominant position. He did everything right within his position but what does he really want? Do feelings enter their D/D - D/D-S position??
There was more than Domination & Submission within the pages. Damien may have wanted to extend Catrina’s knowledge in being a Domme, yet it all led to more. The pages were sizzling so beware. Definitely an 18+ read. More than what happens in the ‘Den’ and behind closed doors, the crux of Catrina was revealed. 200+ pages of non stop sexual encounters, mind playing, acceptance, domination but most importantly ‘A Choice’, there was never any shackles 😉. Sierra has excelled once again. Is there a follow up? There was no cliffhanger but a leading to Gregorio. Ah heck - yes to Gregorio.

Part of the Mastered series each can be read as a standalone with one theme and the one who captures their undivided attention in the best way possible 😊. Catrina is a Domme through and through or so she thought, she is tough on her submissives, but fair with them and she never thought she would ever submit due to being hurt and to avoid being hurt ever again by wrapping feelings up in iron but when it comes to the mysterious owner of The Den she is very interested but can she bring herself to submit while being a Domme is what we are about to see. Damien sexy as all get out owner of The Den has had it eye on certain Domme accepting the challenge of getting her to be his submissive, he embodies the art of seduction, snuggles, he is known to go after what he wants he isn’t a stranger to putting in the work to achieve what he wants and he wants a submissive / Domme to help open up accepting her true nature of being both and being okay with being both. The magnetic pull between these two can’t be ignored and no matter how many times she tells herself it isn’t happening the stronger the pull between them grows and we get to see in D/S relationship it is really the S who holds all the power. He defies everything she thought he was about he shows how gentle he really is with her as a sub but what happens when feelings develop that no expected to have, when she enjoys being his sub, will she give up being a Domme, will she understand he feeling a little better accepting but not changing who she really is, and is there happiness for the owner of The Den?
Damien runs the successful club, The Den. He is happy with his life of training people for the club and having short liaisons (yes, I’m dancing around the adult nature of this book). Mistress Catrina is a member of The Den. She is intrigued by Damien but he is happy with her life working with various people to become part of the club scene and running a successful finance business. When Damien offers her the chance to be with him for a month to show her what he can offer, she takes a huge chance. Will she go back to her life in a month or will they discover that they are what was missing in each other’s lives? This book contains a LOT of adult content. It is necessary to tell the story of self-discovery. Catrina isn’t a natural domme. She hasn’t had much luck in the love department and turned herself into a domme in order to keep control. Her submission to Damien isn’t natural either but it feels right with Damien in a way that surprises her. Damien wants to be in control but learns that he can be flexible in order to keep Catrina in his life. There are just a few side characters but every interaction with them is important. This book takes place in Colorado primarily at an adult activities club. Both of the main characters are adults with successful and demanding careers. The end of this story sets up a story for Damien’s friend, Gregorio. I look forward to reading more of this series.

"No one had ever showered her with this kind of attention, and it left her dizzy."
While not as "large" or unique as Julien Bonds, Master Damien has been a constant, dominant influence throughout the Mastered series and his story, here, is exactly what fans hoped for. While it was never obvious, Damien himself was very guarded and filled with secrets. To be honest, I'm not suprised it took such a fascinating, complex and unique woman to capture his attention and ultimately his heart.
I found Catrina amazing! She had so many levels and hid her true self even from herself. I know some feel since she was a Domme having her submit to Damien was inconsistent. I strongly disagree. Learning her past really made it clear just how complex she is. It's hard to say too much without spoiling the story but trust me, there's so much more going on with her and between them than it appears.
This book was truly wonderful and my only complaint is that it's the final book in a series I adore. I hate letting go. I feel like I know these people and want to keep them in my life. My one consolation is I know they are all living very happy lives together. And who knows? The possibility of future stories is there. Maybe one day we will get the chance to return to the Den. I've learned not to assume anything with Sierra. She's full of suprises!
I needed a break from fantasy - too many dragons, chosen ones, and magic swords were starting to blend into one chaotic fever dream. So I figured, why not pivot into something spicy and educational? Enter: BDSM romance.
This book was supposed to be a quick, steamy little detour... but oof. The audiobook almost did me in. Was it the narrator? Was it the never-ending “milady” like we were LARPing in a Renaissance fair dungeon? (Is that a thing? If so, hard pass.) Every time he said it, I pictured a pimply teen tipping his fedora and whispering, “M’lady” across the table at a D&D night. Not exactly the vibe I was hoping for.
I ended up zoning out for most of the second half because I just couldn’t get into it. I thought about trying the next book in the series, but then I saw they’re all narrated by Leo Barnabas. And, look, I’m sure he’s talented and beloved by many, but his voice just doesn’t do it for me. We all have our audiobook icks, right?
This is a story of discovery between Master Damien and Domme Catrina. Damien finds himself struggling with processing the feelings he experiences when he looks at Catrina. When he looks at her, he finds himself obsessed with her and desperate to make her his submissive. But how is that even possible? Catrina is a Domme, strong willed and determined to not submit to any Dom. Damien makes her an offer to spend two weeks with him turning the tables on her to show her a new perspective of being a submissive. Catrina is very tempted and agrees.
Damien soon realizes that she gets under his skin in more ways than one. She finds herself sharing her innermost fears with Damien and that is very dangerous. Their story is erotic and very emotional. I look forward to Gregorio's story.
Catrina, aka Milady, has been a domme for several years and although she has been somewhat fulfilled, there has always been something missing for her. Damien, the owner of the BDSM club The Den and a dom, has always been attracted to Catrina and has felt she wants more. So he offers her 2 weeks as his sub learning more about submission, which could make her a better domme or discover something in her life that is missing. But during those 2 weeks, they both discover more about themselves. I loved these characters, the sizzle, the steam, just everything about this book. I will be forever sad if I never learn more about Gregorio and hope Sierra Cartwright will take pity on us and give us his story. But until then, awesome read.

Feels slightly dated now, but remains a fine example of the BDSM genre. Expertly written, entertaining and full of kinky fun. Damien and Catrina, a Dom and a Domme, can he teach her how to be his sub in two weeks?
Fourteen days doesn't sound like much but this couple certainly pack enough playtime into their time together, so much that Catrina finds herself questioning everything she ever understood as a Domme. This is a wonderful look into a D/s relationship that revels in the Dom as lover and as carer, a side of the D/s relationship that is often overlooked.
Cartwright is an expert in this genre and all of her BDSM novels are well worth reading. This one is my favourite.

5 Star Review In The Den (Mastered #6) by Sierra Cartwright
In The Den was a terrific addition to the mastered series. This is Master Damien Lowell and Domme Catrina Davidson’s story and it was a passionate, entertaining story that drew me in and held me captive. When Dom challenged Catrina to submit to him for two weeks to make her a better Domme, neither have any idea of the journey that they are about to embark on. It is a journey of self-discovery and facing one’s secret desires. The chemistry between them is impossible to ignore as the connection between them intensifies., not only physically but emotionally and it is this that took this book to another level. I had a hard time putting this book down when real life got in the way.
Dom Damien Lowell, owner of a BDSM club. He has always respected Domme Catrina Davidson. he's often obsessed and wondered what it would be like for her to submit to him. I love how he challenges her; he makes an offer she has trouble agreeing too. He makes her want more for herself, she has lost all her trust in men, love and marriage. I love how patient and masterful Damien gets with her; she has a hard time resisting him. A captivating story as they explore the Dom/sub dynamics. Will she find her true self a sub or a Domme? Will either of them recognize their battle has turned into something more? What happens when feeling become involved? Can she learn to trust Damien to not hurt her? Wowser, this book was definitely hot and electric, Damien Lowell is a Billionaire with his hands in a lot of companies that is his life, Damien owns The Den a BDSM club where fantasy are played out in a controlled environment, Damien is a Dom he is obsessed with a Domme. Catrina Davidson is a Domme she is propositioned by Damien and needs to think about it. It will only be for a few weeks it will give a better understandings on what it feels like, pleasure, pain, punishment. Even though this is only for a few weeks they both have to remind themselves not to fall in love.

I was really excited to dive into this book by Sierra because I have really enjoyed reading a lot of erotic dark romances with BDSM aspects to it. This wasn't like any BDSM books I've read because Sierra did her own unique take on it to have a Dom and Domme (Catrina and Damien) pursue Catrina being a switch between Domme and submissive. Damien's control while still being respectful and about his submissive's pleasure was written perfectly to me. He was a safe space for her to really open up to more exploring in her own ways to being a sub. Their chemistry was steamy and made the book so good for me since they really had a raw connection! I would easily read more of this series by Sierra, it was a great read!
In the Den is the 6th book in the re-edited and revised anniversary edition of the Mastered series. Damien and Catrina's story is a wonderful blend of kinky sexy times, emotional moments of recovery from past disappointments and a slow discovery of deep-seated needs and desires. While Catrina is first portrayed as a Domme, there are in fact no actual scenes involving her and a sub, the focus is very much on her discovering of submission at Damien's hands - and him discovering that she is holding his heart strings. I loved their journey with all its steamy sexy times, tender moments, angst and doubt resulting in a fitting finale in the Den and a HEA. Gregorio's story is next and I can't wait.

I’ve looked forward to Master Damiens story and was disappointed. First of all it had to be about a Domme realizing she is actually a sub with the right Dom (kind of reminds me of men thinking lesbians are just waiting for the right man). Further more we must understand that the woman described as a great Domme is actually a pure substitute for a male Dom, apparently she wasn’t able to wield a cane/flogger/whip etc properly before, she didn’t show enough care/affection/attention to her subs, she didn’t knew how to read them. For me, it was a very disappointing ending on this series.
I fell in love with Damien and Catrina! Sierra matched these two controlling people perfectly with their past issues and hidden needs! Damien’s ability to read Catrina is uncanny as he suggests a two week stay with him to improve her skills, but it turns in to so much more for the both of them. Catrina’s trust in Damien is only highlighted by her heart falling for the man who will never marry again. How will it all end? You have to read to find out and don’t expect to put the book down as there is no stopping point!
