After a theft, Luke ends up in the city prison and faces serious consequences for his actions. The next few years of his life will be spent laboring in a lirek mine. Jagger, a senior guard, splits his time between the mine and the prison. He knows how the cruel system works, and Luke needs someone to help him. Protection has a cost, and Luke will have to be trained to serve and submit in the way Jagger prefers before they leave the prison for the mine. Jagger can be harsh, and he enjoys punishing, but Luke also finds himself being cared for and comforted. Surely, Luke can survive the next five years even if Jagger pushes the boundaries a little.

i've discovered i rather read a story with straight-up violent rape, than one with a rapist that convinces the victim they should be grateful for being treated so "nicely" and that "he doesn't enjoy seeing them suffer"

the intent of the book is being kinky, but it honestly only bored me.

Love prison romances. Sadly there is no romance here, just BDSM, so take note. The guard is just doing the MC a favor by granting him protection as long as he serves him. He is a sadist but was generally nice to Luke and it was all very formal given their status as prisoner and guard.

Quick prison romance with a very dominant guard and a semi willing prisoner. Definitely not a romance book in any way. Dubious consent at best. That being said, can't wait to read the next two books to see how these two evolve with each other.

Really enjoyed this series. Super steamy, very dark, but just right.

I loved jagger and Luke's journey, and it was hawwwwt. But also sweet. So basically the perfect combination. Very short, not too much plot, and very lovable. Just what I wanted!
