There’s nothing new here - it’s just a rehash of common ideas/wisdom (“Be patient and trust the process”) and snappy little sayings for your Pinterest inspiration board (“Everything you’re going through will soon turn into everything you’ve made it through”).

I first stumbled upon Protect Your Peace after hearing Trent Shelton’s dynamic and passionate discussion on the Mel Robbins podcast. Shelton’s vibrant energy was incredibly compelling, and I was eager to dive into his book to soak up more of his infectious enthusiasm.

Rated as a 3.5 star read for me, Protect Your Peace delivers a solid foundation for anyone new to the concepts of setting boundaries and living an unapologetic life. For those who have ventured deeper into personal development, the book may present as a bit repetitive, echoing familiar themes. While the principles Shelton outlines are valuable, the presentation would benefit greatly from a more concise approach.

Overall, Trent Shelton offers a spirited guide that is perfect for beginners looking to gain confidence to navigate some of the complexities of modern life and social interactions. For seasoned readers in the genre, it serves as a gentle reminder rather than groundbreaking insights.

This was 4.5 stars for me.

I liked the way the book was broken down into three parts with three of the nine principles discussed in each part. Although I didn’t do them as I was reading, I also thought it was helpful to have a protect your peace practice at the end of each principle and I will be revisiting those.

While I thought it was nice that he related his personal experience to the principles throughout the book at times I did find it a little repetitive which is why I took half a star away but I did find it to be a useful book overall for self motivation.

Exactly what I expected and I genuinely feel more peace and motivation. Nothing is ground breaking in this book, but it’s full of encouragement and structured planning to accomplish the happiest and most fulfilled version of you. It will help a lot of people, and I’ve added to my library of books I’ll re-read if needed.

You can tell that Trent really wants the people his words reach to have peace. Besides a few editing errors, I enjoyed reading about peace from his perspective. It was a very timely read for me.

Trent Shelton always speaks truth. He has helped me become a better me. His words of wisdom is something I always apply to my life. I have been following and taking everything he says into account for a long time. This book helped me understand how I am not protecting my peace and what I need to do to change that. I’ve been allowing people to take my peace and that’s something I can’t do. I highly recommend everyone to read this book.

Trent never gives you fluff. He never tells you lies & he never covers $h!t in frosting. He isn't kidding when he says "straight up." He is fresh water after kool-aid. There are no big surprises in this book. There is no secret formula to finding & protecting your peace. If you want it, you're going to have to go get it. Period.

I am unfamiliar with Trent Shelton, but I picked up this book because the title and description were catchy. Toward the end of the year, I focus on self-improvement books.

This book was just okay, and even though it's not very long, a lot of the book is filled with filler and anecdotes from the author's life. A reader would get the whole gist by reading the table of contents and the first paragraph of every chapter. The book is outlined in several principles, but the sections of those principles only sometimes align with the discussed principle. There is also very little research done here, as the endnotes only have four references to back up a few presented facts, which didn't affect the book's outcome.

For me, a person who has read many books onoductivity, and improvement, this comes across as "vibes, self-growth, pr" and I didn't extract any value from it. You could read this over a day, coming away with some pinnable quotes but no tangible action steps. I would have enjoyed seeing activities at the end of each section for the reader to complete and practical applications of the principles instead of reading more stories from the author's life. I now know more about Trent Shelton than I ever wanted to since I went in without knowing who he was. The information here would be highly repetitive for someone who listens to his podcast or follows him on social media.

I did not take anything now or actionable away from this book. It could have hit the mark better as a long-form article.

In today’s fast-paced and often overwhelming world, many people are searching for inner peace. Former NFL player turned motivational speaker Trent Shelton offers a powerful perspective on how to find that peace—not by escaping the chaos, but by embracing life with purpose and faith.

Through his personal experiences of loss, growth, and redemption, Shelton shares that true peace comes from within and is deeply rooted in a relationship with God. He doesn’t just speak about surviving the challenges of a cruel world—he teaches how to rise above them, how to see purpose in pain, and how to let go of what no longer serves you.

Trent’s message is more than inspiration; it’s a call to action. It’s about healing, self-worth, and walking boldly in your truth. If you’re seeking peace, his approach reminds us that it’s not something found in the outside world, but something cultivated in the heart—with God’s guidance lighting the way.

Life lessons for any stage of life

This is a practical book filled with life lessons for whatever season of life you find yourself in. Even if you're already doing some of the things suggested in this book, this is a great reminder of why you should keep it up and how to mix it up if things have gotten stale. We all need encouragement, and this book is perfect for what's going on in the world. Thinking of boundaries as bridges to allow or deny access to you was a particularly helpful perspective.

Pro: Good read or listen to those who want to reflect on how they can protect their peace. I do a lot of what is mentioned in this book, however, I’m grateful I still listened to it. Sometimes we need a reminder that it’s ok to protect your peace.

Con: He mentions his football career setback wayyy too many times. I believe in every chapter he mentions it. I understand getting your point across, however, it was overkill.

I love Trent Shelton and there was a lot of value in this book.

Some chapters I definitely took more notes and gave a new perspective.

Overall it was a great book for mindset and life application- however there’s something about how he speaks and his energy that way that I feel like can’t be recreated from written form. His delivery live- on stages is next level.

Trent Shelton is a great motivational speaker and author and I really like listening to him. I listened to the audiobook and it’s narrated by Trent. Although I didn’t learn anything new from this book, it’s all things that I’ve heard and read about before- it was still full of good reminders and it felt like a big pep talk. I enjoyed it and it stirred my emotions, so five stars for me.

A concise and inspiring set of 9 principles to increase confidence, eliminate self-doubt and reach your goals. I did the audio version of this book and enjoyed the author’s enthusiasm and down to earth approach to personal growth. He shared many of his own struggles in the NFL and personally with loss and grief. A quick listen if you need a dose of motivation and encouragement!

Author shares relevant stories from his life to support his points. Friendly tone. Nothing wow new for me, so I skimmed some of it. But I always, ALWAYS, need reminders to "set boundaries" and to "disconnect often" so thank you for that.

There were a lot of good points in this book, but it felt kind of predictable and like the topics were backed up by the author's feelings rather than any evidence to support them. Overall, I did enjoy the book, but I wouldn't recommend.

Trent Shelton always has a keen insight on life. He pretty clever in how he applies Biblical principles to everyday life, but he doesn't bash his readers over the head with it. Just subtle enough to be profound.

Excellent first read as I reflect on 2024 and start to plan 2025. The four intentions already have changed my days: spirituality, movement, creativity and intention. I already know which one I need to focus more of my time….creativity. Already thinking what does that look like for me.

I had high hopes for this one since I love Trent Shelton’s content on Instagram, but it was underwhelming. His words were motivating and it would be a good intro for someone brand new to personal development, but I was looking for something more in-depth.
