The Joy of the In-Between: 100 Devotions for Trusting God in Your Waiting Season: A Devotional

Rate this book
Are you sick of waiting for your “real” life to begin? This joy-filled daily devotional offers the abundant peace that comes when you place your trust in God’s plan and start living today—from the founder of The Honey Scoop.

Perhaps you've found yourself in a season of “not yet”—whether you don’t yet have the career you've been working for, the spouse you've been praying for, or the life you've been hoping for. Maybe you feel like you're somewhere in between one chapter ending and a new one beginning, unsure of when or how God will show up for you in the waiting.

As the founder of The Honey Scoop, Ashley Hetherington is deeply connected to the pain points of young women. In the midst of her own waiting season, Ashley has met countless others who feel like they are in the hallway to God’s promises for their lives. They wonder when God is going to open the next door, answer their deep desires, and show up in a tangible way. She understands that not knowing the future when everything feels uncertain can cause you to question God and struggle to trust in His goodness.

In The Joy of the In-Between , Hetherington offers daily encouragement for having faith as you wait for what’s next, and guidance for trusting God with your life right where you are. Ashley proposes that the in-between days are ripe for knowing God’s voice and experiencing His presence. They’re not a hyphen between two important chapters, but a chance to experience more joy, more purpose, and more connection. Waiting is a season that can be marked by abundant peace rather than frustration and chaos.

In The Joy of the In-Between you will learn how to release your grip on “the way things should be” so you can learn to stop waiting on what’s next, discover the goodness of your everyday life, and start living now. You don’t have to wait until God answers your prayers to live the holy, God-given days you find yourself in now.

Oh, this book. I am not usually one for devotionals, but the sub title of this book grabbed my attention. I am so thankful for it! I have spent the last few years in the "in-between" and in a long waiting season. We have been dealing with childhood cancer and more for the last couple years. Sometimes, the wait and the unknown season seems unbearable. Ashley weaves in stories with Biblical truth to remind us that God really is there with us in the in between. Although the author means for us to be waiting for our "real life" to begin, I found I related to this is many other ways. Place your trust in God’s plan and start living today

This book was such great encouragement, and I loved how Ashley Hetherington used her real-life experiences to show what the Holy Spirit revealed to her through them. This book shows you that life is a journey with ups and downs but through it all God is with you. You are on your own walk with Him, and there's joy in the here and now even when things don't seem to be progressing as fast as you'd like, or even when things seem hopeless or you think you should be further ahead than you are... God has you here, right now, for a reason, and maybe it's to teach you to slow down and abide in Him so He can do a good work in your life and prepare you for the amazing and beautiful gift He has for you. Keep fighting the good fight of faith.

Meet my new favorite devotional - a devotional I needed at this very moment. I think Ashley says it best: It's okay to move slowly. In today's world we are rushed and instant gratification seems to be the new norm (hello online orders and 2 day shipping), but that isn't how God works. In this book Ashley shows us that we need to embrace the in-between moments we are having while in our waiting period because those in-between moments are bringing us where we need to be, even though it may be a tough to get through. We need to let go and trust that God is going to lead us to where we need to be. I've been reading this book in the morning and it's such a beautiful book to read every morning to prepare you for your day and remind you that you need to be patient and wait for what God has in store for you. Enjoy the little things while you wait for the bigger things to come.

Thank you to WaterBrook & Multnomah and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this devotional.

Thank you so much to Ashley, WaterBrook & Multnomah for allowing me to be an ARC reader.

I can truly say I thoroughly enjoyed this devotional. From the introduction to the very last page, I loved every minute of it!

Ashley is such an amazing person in general, but she is also an incredible writer and I felt every single word that was written. I loved how she included real world experiences. It made it feel like we were friends and just so much more personable.

Each day was very well thought out and includes so much encouragement. I also really loved the questions at the end each of page— really makes you stop and think about your answers.

I have since preordered the physical copy, and I’m excited to dive deeper in the Bible with this devotional.

The book is a wonderful reminder to wait on God, especially in the fast-paced instant gratification world we're living in. Look to God, no matter your circumstances and give all your hopes, dreams and desires to Him. This is a very inspiring, faith-building 100 day devotional that is so relevant to today's modern day world challenges that we face. Such a devotional I would for sure love to read first thing in the morning at home, at the office and at the end of the day. A powerful reminder of Whom we should focus on first thing in the morning and Whom to thank at the end of our day. Thanks to NetGalley for my advanced reader copy.

Are you stuck in a waiting period? Thinking maybe God forgot about you or that He doesn't actually have a plan for you? Then The Joy of the In-Between by Ashley Hetherington is for you. This 100-Day devotional book is full of stories from Ashley's life and they help illustrate the lessons she is trying to teach.

I first found Ashley on YouTube where I started watching her channel almost daily. When I was perusing the Christian books on NetGalley and I saw her name, I knew it had to be her, so I requested the book. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to read and review the book before it came out!

I love the personal anecdotes that accompany each devotional lesson. They show that even those who have it "all put together" have to wait and that God does everything in His time, not ours. I especially enjoyed the anecdotes about flying as I am not good about flying myself, so I felt like I had something in common with her, besides our love for Jesus.

Although the book seems geared mostly toward women, I'm sure everyone can find value in the devotional teachings of this book. This is definitely a book that I will read again and again.

Since I started reading this devotional, I have been through many tribulations. The waiting season I was originally in transformed into something even longer but way more rewarding. I’m so grateful to God for giving me this book to reach for in my morning routine and listen to some truth in waiting for God even when it’s tough or when it’s not on his timeline. Some of the day's metaphors/examples were very shallow, which affects my rating slightly. I’m anticipating whatever Ashley writes next because this book was definitely the start of something new!

Such a sweet devotional as it is so hard it is to wait on God to move in your life. As a special needs mom, I so appreciate that these devos are short while still packed with rich Scripture, and simple questions and prayers. One of my favorites she wrote is “Get out of the dark” as we all need to find the light that God is calling us to. This devo would make such a sweet gift to your girlfriends!

absolutely loved this daily devotional! took me well over 100 days to finish and work through, but particularly through this book, I learned the valuable skill of not rushing. So many valuable Godly nuggets of wisdom to constantly reflect and ponder on each day I read a passage. I couldn’t recommend enough for anyone seeking to find patience and joy during a waiting season!

I enjoyed this devotional, I started every morning with it. The title of the book is what grabbed my attention, it was very light-hearted, and wholesome, but I think I was just expecting some more hard hitting topics. I did really enjoy the questions for each day’s devotion.

Interesting. Not necessarily for where I’m at in my life, but I’m sure the attitude will be helpful going forward.

My Initial Thoughts!

“The Joy of the In Between”
is a book I needed, but didn’t know at the time that I first heard about it. It’s one of those books where you look at the cover and you think it’s so pretty. It’s so beautiful—but you still wait to pick it up. One day I was at Barnes & Noble‘s and I decided to grab a copy and give it a try—even though I still wasn’t sure if it was for me. 😂 Funny, huh?! Well this book has been walking me through a waiting season that I didn’t really know I was walking through until I started reading. I am now experiencing the joy of the Lord after each reading of this devotional. I realize I am in a waiting season that I feel is coming to a close—which is exciting, but I definitely need the encouragement to keep holding on and trusting God. Some things look kind of uncertain right now, but I truly do have faith that all will work out as God has promised. I thank God for His presence in my life as I walk through times of waiting. This book is a perfect companion. If you need a daily reminder to keep trusting God first + to not put your hands on His work this book is for you. Remember—you got this, hold on and pray as long as needed. God hears your prayers, and I truly do believe He will answer you as He has answered me in the past. I know He will answer this time too.
