What becomes of happily-ever-after for a woman who can’t stand sex with the best guy ever?
Her desire used to work perfectly. Over the years she kept meticulous track of it - tallying her orgasms, maintaining a Top Humps list, and keeping a score system to rate how her conquests excite her mentally versus physically - all with the purpose of finding a great, fantastic love match.
Now, after moving into her thirties and settling down with Serious Boyfriend Number Three (aka THE-ONE), she's run into a problem.
Sex hurts. She can’t get wet. Her fanny, which has never led her astray before, suddenly seems like it might be broken.
Surely there must be some way to make sex work for her again?
From doctors to drugs to completely unorthodox methods she embarks on a journey of desperation and self-discovery.
She’ll try anything to fix it but maybe desire and long-term love just don’t work together…
Sexually frank, wildly funny, psychologically raw, I’m F*cking Amazing marks the fiction debut of a red-hot talent, perfect for fans of Fleabag.
I’m F*cking Amazing feels like conversations with a best friend over wine and small plates that then leads to a drunken meal of McDonald’s chicken nuggets and shots back at home. Raw, authentic, hilarious and honest…and although this book is fiction I almost wish it wasn’t because I very much would like to be friends with our main character. This book is for people who know how complex relationships can be, and although you don’t always want to, you’ll be cheering our complicated girl on till the very last page. Warden, I read this in one sitting, so well done.
The whole book is glamorizing cheating, it's okay to be with others if the guy isn't an appropriate number on the scale she created. Also, why so much about if her 'fanny' was pleased? Or that 'he touched a wet fanny' like it is just weird.
The slang is odd, weird texting like talking/details (using coz, instead of because..).
This seemed like the FMC should have been like 20 not in her thirties.
Thank you NetGalley for my E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A disappointing read. I went into this thinking it would be laugh out loud funny and I think it only made me giggle... Maybe once? I actually found the whole book really sad.
I was looking forward to it being fresh and witty but it wasn't. Yes, it displays the messiness of relationships and women's sexuality well but I just really didn't like the main character and how the book was slightly glamorising cheating.
The protagonist views this as a solution to make her first relationship better and fix her 'broken fanny'. But she only admits this to herself after breaking up with the first partner and never tells him what she did.
Essentially she's full of red flags and knows she needs to work on herself to have better relationships, but it takes until the final few pages for this to be realised.
But in the process, the book pushes a very anti-men agenda, without exploring the idea that women can also have a role in failing relationships and this character in particular has some very questionable behaviour (emotional abuse, physical abuse & cheating to name just a few examples.)
This was an exhausting read, and I felt relieved when it was over. It definitely wasn't the empowering, humorous book I thought it would be.
✨Proof copy revived from Trapeze. Thank you to the publishers for sending this to me, and sorry it couldn't be a more positive review! ✨
Felt blindfolded the whole time I was reading this. It’s like if a Barbie tried to write a book for adults. I keep writing incredibly detailed and scathing reviews and then feeling guilty so I’ll leave it at this: I feel incredibly saddened for the reviewer that called this “among the most daring [sex writing] I’ve read.”
Raw diary of a London woman in her late 20s, who fights tooth and nail for a perfect relationship. She rates her flings based on what her fanny and her brain want. She's in a couple of serious, long-term relationships. Third is someone who she loves initially but shortly after they get married, sex becomes a bore and very painful. Her relationship with X turns sour after she finds out he's been lying for a year. The quirky book is a quick-paced adventure, where the focal point is not only the steamy sex but the protagonist's growth amd maturity right before the reader's eyes.
I think it's probably an age thing, but this book really didn't work for me. I just couldn't believe that the protagonist was meant to be in her thirties, she was so juvenile, in both her language and her behaviour. She treated people appallingly and was so self-obsessed and selfish. It wasn't even as if there was much in the way of development, she was just as odious at the end of the book, if not more so.
[4.5 stars] A really fun debut packed with crass British humour and an unforgettable narrator. The book is written as a prolonged diary entry of our unnamed narrators successful (and unsuccessful) forays into relationships and sex. She’s unapologetically horny and unhinged, but as you learn about her upbringing so many pieces click into place.
The book doesn’t promise anything profound, but I did appreciate how it wasn’t afraid to delve into heavier topics; the baggage we bring into relationships, the insecurities we feel, and how they form our identity were all really interesting. I liked the ending for what it was too - a bit expected, but the book had a few more twists than I anticipated so it all evens out. Even commentary about women’s bodies and the healthcare system were much appreciated in a book that easily could have veered into something more ‘safe’ and apolitical.
My only minor gripe with this was the length, which I felt was a bit longer than it needed to be. With a tad more editing and refinement, this easily could have been a five star read. Nonetheless, a real fun and relatively light read that I’d recommend if you’re intrigued by the premise!
I love books that center on strong, realistic women that maybe don't have a picture-perfect life and aren't afraid to throw some explitives your way. I'm F*cking Amazing nailed it. This read more like a conversation with a good friend or a look into someone's diary.
We follow our narrator's relationship journey - the highs, lows, and all the juicy details - with her third serious boyfriend (Three) and later on, her older partner, X. There's no fairytale romance here, but I loved reading about her good and bad decisions and her growth through it all.
I'm F*cking Amazing (which is truly the most amazing title) was addicting to read, and I can't wait to dig into the writer's other works.
I could feel my brain rotting as I read about the main protagonist’s ‘wet fanny’ and bonk scale of ‘Top Humps’. It was wierd that the main character was unnamed.
I did want to persevere until the end however as morbid curiosity took over. A few funny lines on occasion. I felt like I was submerged in a never-ending pub chat about cliche topics that drive banter (sex and drugs)with a group of chavvy 18 year olds after they had been on their first trip to Magaluf.
This would appeal to teenagers and other youngsters embarking on an experimental sexual journey and looking for tips, before beginning a long-term relationship, but for me I needed an Ovaltine and a lie down in a dark room, to recover after I had finished reading this book.
This book honestly has me shook. It made me laugh and it made me feel the chaos of life and it absolutely hit my heart in ways I didn’t expect. Emotions!
“But at that time, I so desperately needed him to choose me. I just didn’t realize that him doing so wasn’t the answer I thought it would be.
I don’t think there are ever any proper resolutions from really sad things in life. Important people hurt us. We try to move on. But really, we take that hurt to our death. And that’s okay. As long as we’ve lived and been happy in between.”
A boldly written book about a woman and her relationships, with partners; family; friends and more importantly her own body. This book isn't afraid to tackle any subject and does so in a brilliant matter-of-fact way, with humour and tenderness.
The opening line had me hooked and made me want to continue as I loved the writing style straight away. It's written in a wonderful style as if you're having a conversation with a friend.
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for a copy of this ARC
I read mostly on Kindle, so I can switch the light off when reading in bed to let my partner go to sleep. The Kindle plan doesn’t really work when reading a novel as funny and moving as this, as I couldn’t help but laugh out loud or shout ‘no!’ / ‘what?’ *audible gasp* at every page. Equal parts hilarious and touching, this felt like a late-night confession with an old friend. I can’t wait to see what Warden does next.
Great for fans of Fleabag, The Freedom Clause, and Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up, I’m F*cking Amazing is a boldly written story of a woman not afraid to be real and who unapologetically insists upon living life on her own terms.
After a list-worth of amazing, humps, our narrator enters her thirties and settles down with serious boyfriend number three (aka The One). And then she runs into a problem. Sex hurts. Her once reliable fanny (not what Americans call it) has let her down. It’s broken. From doctors to drugs, she embarks on a journey to bring desire back to her relationship. But maybe desire and long-term love don’t work together. Is romantic love incompatible with sexual satisfaction?
Raw, explicit, and frank, I’m F*cking Amazing feels like a drunken chat with your best girlfriends where you let all your truths out. Though I found the book incredibly funny and well-written, I also found the MC to be immature and unlikeable, which led to its rating of 3 stars instead of 4. I look forward to seeing what else comes from this author. She’s definitely a writer to watch!
Thank you to @netgalley and @doubledaybooks for an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. #ImFckingAmazing #NetGalley.
Blurb: Sexually drank, wildly funny, psychologically raw, I’m F*cking amazing marks the fiction debut of a red-hot talent.
✨My thoughts: This cover is fun and the entire reason I wanted to read this, I actually didn’t even read the synopsis. I’m so glad I read it because I loved it! This book is not for the conservative… so if you’re not a fan of sex being openly talked about this one won’t be for you. It was a fast and fun read and truthfully I couldn’t put it down. It’s messy and raw and our MC isn’t necessarily likable but she is relatable. I really just wanted to se her grow! My only gripe with this story was the cheating, that’s just not a storyline i vibe with but it’s totally a me thing and others may not even care about it! I loved this author’s writing style and I’ll definitely be reading more books by this author in the future! I’m F*cking Amazing is out tomorrow 4/30/24!
If the title doesn't give it away then let me warn you that this book is not for the conservative or easily offended. My copy (UK hardback) features a cartoon tub of petroleum jelly on the cover and the tagline makes it clear it's not going to hold back.
Filled with crass British humour and frank writing about sex, specifically from the POV of millennial women, this tells the story of one in particular, who has enjoyed a healthy sex life for all of her twenties and who now, for some unknown reason, is having problems "down there".
Yes, there is graphic (and usually humourous) descriptions of sex but underneath is a surprisingly deep story about the traumas and unresolved issues that we hold onto for years and that can manifest themselves in the most unexpected ways and at the most unexpected times.
The protagonist is superbly flawed, self-aware (for the most part) and, whilst she is not always likeable she is relatable. The pacing was great, with fun inserts like her "Top Humps" ranking cards and message exchanges included which helped the story move along very quickly.
It certainly won't be for everyone, I'm not sure i've ever read the word fanny so much in my life! But it actually showcases some underdiscussed medical conditions faced by women, and this, along with the mental health topics it discusses added some gravity to an otherwise mad and messy (in a good way) read!
Felt more like ‘F*cking annoying’ than ‘I’m f*cking amazing’
This book started off so well—funny, engaging, and full of potential. I was hooked, wondering where the story would go. But as it progressed, the main character became increasingly insufferable, making me uncomfortable. She wasn’t just emotionally abusive but physically as well, all while believing herself to be the victim. It was frustrating to read.
That said, I did enjoy the moments that reminded me of real conversations with friends—those deep, late-night chats where you put the world to rights. Those parts felt authentic and relatable.
Unfortunately, the story became repetitive, and I found myself zoning out. What started as a promising read ended up feeling tedious. Not for me, but I can see how others might enjoy it more.
Okay. I really wanted to like this one especially because it was hyped up as "for fans of Fleabag" which is OF COURSE my favorite show ever. BUT unfortunately it was way too heterosexual and way too vulgar even for me!!!!! This girl was crazy and when she described hemorrhoids in the most disgusting way possible (POO-SMELLING GRAPES?!?!?!?) I knew I was simply DONE!!! I will say that parts of the book were indeed vulnerable and poignant and funny and all that it was made out to be, but holy moly there was just too much ick to make it worth it! Perhaps I just could not match the freak of this book! I really thought it would be right up my alley but alas! It was definitely an experience so if you're in the mood for some weird freaky reading give it a go!
Ok wow. I was so excited to receive an advanced reading copy of this book and it did not disappoint. From issues with female anatomy that are wildly under diagnosed and researched to so many types of sex and relationships that are deeply, painfully relatable. It’s hilarious, human, and absolute perfection. I think most women will read a piece of themselves in these passages. It’s incredibly creative and plays with many different storytelling vehicles to paint the full picture. I’m obsessed.
