Today he’s crowned a hero. Tomorrow he’ll be fighting for the lives of his loved ones. The time for Mr Nice Guy is over!
With the feisty Savannah Jones by his side and new landlord, Richard Windal, offering detective work, Ethan’s life seems perfect. But Savannah’s first run-in with Windal uncovers his darker side, and it isn’t long before the self-proclaimed do-gooder is butting heads with Ethan.
A missing person’s case throws the detective pairing deep into the belly of an underage sex ring, where life is cheap and the scum of the earth come to party. Savannah’s gut senses Windal’s dirty hands at work, and she’ll risk anything, including her life, to prove it.
When Ethan and Windal engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse, the true extent of the lunatic’s horrific business interests begins to surface. Windal plans to destroy those closest to Ethan’s heart to prove his superiority and to bring his nemesis to his knees. Can Ethan save the people he loves and defeat a psychopath dark to the point of hysterical?
When Justice and Jones get under Windal’s skin, the result is RELENTLESS.
Ethan Justice: Relentless is a fast-paced, action-packed, character-driven thriller, guaranteed to make you laugh out loud, cringe, cry and cheer.
This is the second book in the 'Ethan Justice' series but it also reads as a stand-alone story.
This book contains a few violent scenes, a dash of sex and the odd bit of bad language, so please don't buy it if you are easily offended.
Simon Jenner is best known for the bestselling ETHAN JUSTICE series, dark-humoured action thrillers with unforgettable main characters. He also wrote the critically acclaimed THE EVOLVED, the first in a young adult sci-fi trilogy, with the second book still in development. His latest book, DON’T CALL ME BETH, is an epic psychological thriller which is receiving much early praise.
Simon lives in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, with his wife, Julia.
On the basis of the first Ethan Justice book a few months ago, I was primed to pick up the sequel. To my surprise, I liked this one even better.
Recovered now from their last showdown with evil (book 1), Ethan and his detective (and sometimes romantic) partner Savannah Jones are just plain two of the nicest yet most interesting private detectives I’ve had the pleasure of encountering. Their insecurities with each other, and when facing off against some really nasty enemies, are both endearing and maddening, at times.
Unfortunately, Ethan may be a first-class fighter, but he’s a lousy shot. This makes for some welcome comic relief more than once in the novel. Gorgeous, dark-haired Savannah comes from the wrong side of the tracks, compared to prep-school graduate Ethan, but she’s plenty smart and plenty resourceful. It’s a pleasure watching these two try to sort out their own relationship, with an awkwardness that’s downright comical.
Crime thrillers, it’s often said, stand or fall on the depth and complexity of the villain. Ethan’s nemesis in “Relentless” could hardly be more gruesome or sadistic and yet at the same time brilliantly manipulative. I like to read while eating, but not the descriptions of this villain as he disposes of the bodies! Epic battles result in the London borough of Twickenham. The book builds to an extremely satisfying ending which contained several surprises. Highly recommended!
***I received this e-book in exchange for an honest review***
I was really looking forwards to reading this second instalment in the Ethan Justice series and I wasn't disappointed. Savannah and Ethan pick up where they left off from the previous story and are finding their feet in their new detective agency, based in the mall. A Hunt for a missing girl and the taming of "the Darks", a gang of unruly youths, will lead them into a fight for their lives.
I love a book with a bad bad-guy and the bad guy in this book is very very bad lol. All the characters are complex and interesting, and I think I am developing an Ethan Justice Crush! :0). Fast paced and hard to put down.....Ethan justice no 3 needs to be out quickly :0)
Ethan Justice and his work partner and on-off girlfriend Savannah Jones are working with Herb Johnson from an organisation called Earth guard. Johnson seems to have finances and technical wizardry at his fingertips, some if which Justice and Jones are given to use. They are up against a sick-minded criminal Uber-villain who is behind the disappearance of a young girl the pair have promised to find.
This is a high octane action story, the second in its series, and twists a number of story strands together. I very much enjoy Justice as the unlikely hero and Jones as the surprising heroine. I loved her effect on his previously unyielding parents in this book! Lovers of the thriller genre will quickly engage with this series. I enjoyed it a lot.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
5 outstanding stars. When I give a five star review, the author damn well better have earned each and every one of those stars. I don't just hand out that rating freely.
This book, the second in the Ethan series, grabbed me by the seat of my pants and didn't let go until the very end. The character development for the bad guys in this book, and believe me, there were a few, was outstanding. I loved to hate them. I found myself laughing out loud during some of the action scenes at some of the things the antagonist came up with.
The duo protagonists are put through even more hell in this book than the last, and just when you think it can't get any worse, hang on.
The hits just keep coming. Another fantastic adventure in the life of Ethan Justice. This book picks up where the first one ended and continues his story. While you don't have to read the first book to know what is going on, I strongly suggest it, as the story is every bit as good as this one. This time round Ethan is now established as a Private Eye and has two new clients - one a mother looking for her runaway daughter; and the other his new landlord wants to put him on retainer. The story hits the ground running, pulls you in, and doesn't let up until the last word. Well worth reading. The only down side I've seen is the third book isn't available yet!!!
The average worker can describe their job in one word and that is ‘mundane’. It is a place of continuous repetition that sometimes brings boredom and often seems like it will never end. Most workers will tell you that their current job is not the one they planned on landing. Whether they be college graduates or high school graduates, there current job is not their dream job. To them every work day is the repeat of the previous and excitement is far and few to find. In order to break this cycle workers need to take a leap of faith. A leap that requires them to leave their repetitious life and explore the world of the economic unknown. This story is about one such explorer named Ethan Justice. He is a man who makes his living fighting evil and bringing dirt bags to justice. However, Ethan Justice was not always a man of action. In the past he was known as John Smith, your average college graduate, with a one way ticket to loser Ville. By a trick of fate and an ounce of dumb luck he was given an opportunity to reshape and restart his life. This book is about Ethan Justice’s first real case as a private detective. He is hired by a stricken mother to locate a missing daughter, but uncovers a monster in sheep’s clothing. Young girls are missing daily and people are being beaten in the streets by thugs. Will Ethan save other girls that are missing? Can he stop the madman before he is killed? Will someone close to him be tortured in his place?
The first thing I must say is wow! This book was a wonderful continuation of the previous book. There was no break in between the first and second book, so I really felt that I understood what was going on. I had no confusion and did not have to refer back to the previous book for help. I liked how the main character grew in the story and showed some maturity and back bone. I found the villain in the story to be a sick bastard that I personally wanted to stomp on, but was happy with the outcome of the story. In essence I think Ethan did justice on this! I must say at times it got a little gory, but it was tied into the plot. Thus, I believe the gory scenes were needed in order to demonstrate how sick and freakish the villain was. I highly recommend this book and its previous companion. It would make a great gift for the upcoming holidays, for those of you that have active readers in the family. Finally, I must thank the author for giving me a free copy of his book. It was much appreciated and I truly enjoyed it!
This book is not a mystery; it is a thriller. We meet the villain on page 1 and even know his name by the end of the Prologue. We learn quickly that he is a sexual predator, a sexual deviant, a blackmailer and a serial killer. And he hides it all behind a façade that is handsome, wealthy and philanthropic. He controls lawyers, politicians and law enforcement agents by way of their vices and even has the local punk gang under his thumb.
We find that the villain is on the ragged edge of his psychosis just at the point that Ethan becomes a public hero for his actions at the end of the first book, Origins. And when he finds that he cannot buy, emotionally subvert or physically subject Ethan to his control, he vows to destroy Ethan. And, to that end, he devotes every fiber of his being. He becomes – RELENTLESS.
At this point, I committed the cardinal sin of all mystery/thriller readers – I skipped the middle half of the book and went to the last 5 chapters. I had to know. I just had to know how that degenerate, filthy piece of slime would be defeated. Finally, emotionally exhausted and with a thin-lipped grin of triumph, I returned to the point where I had left off earlier. I then began to absorb the nuts and bolts of how the author progressed Ethan to the point where he determined that if he was to survive, and that if he was to save the lives of the people he loved, he must also become – RELENTLESS.
Quite frankly, this author knows how to tell a tale. He knows how to hook the reader and reel that reader into the story, turn-by-turn, until you finally realize that you are hurting each time the protagonists hurt, smiling as they smile and only breathing when they do.
This novel is a very well crafted thriller but it is a rough read. This book is not for the faint of heart or for those whose sensibilities are easily affronted by foul language, by graphic violence, by homosexuality or by homophobia. It will get the adrenaline flowing and the mind churning, so consider carefully whether to read this just before bedtime. This novel uses the plotline to speak about several current societal issues and the story plows through four days in time like an express freight train. It doesn’t stop; it doesn’t slow down; it is, to the end – RELENTLESS.
Disclosure – I received a complimentary copy of this book, but that did not affect my opinion of the book.
This was a disturbing book in many ways. The first being that Simon Jenner has a sick imagination to come up with gadgets that are ahead of their time, I hope the government doesn't read this book and get any ideas. The next thing that stuck with me is the villain and the crime. I like a book where the lines are clearly drawn as to who is on the good/bad side. We have that in Windal the villain. He may appear to walk on the up and up to those who don't know him well but he immediately comes off as slimey and psycho to me. I did not like him at all and could not wait to see how Justice dealt with him. The most disturbing factor in this book was the "Dark" house where MANY crimes of a sick perverted nature were participated in by officials who tried to keep it covered up. A couple of reasons this disturbs me, one being that I have a daughter and two, while this was a fictional story, I do not doubt for a moment that this kind of stuff is happening every day under our noses.
Jenner takes the relationship of Ethan and Savannah to the next level showing they can go through good and bad times but still come out on top. I enjoyed the training that Ethan goes through and would be interested in seeing him go through some more. Jenner also takes Ethan's decision to work for Earthguard to another lever by having Johnson have a heart to heart with him forcing Ethan to decide if he is willing to do anything to get the job done.
This was a very entertaining book. It does what a second book is supposed to do. It answers questions that you are left with in the first, it opens the characters up to the reader a little more and it leaves you with a few different questions you hope are answered in the third. I don't know what Mr. Jenner's plans are with this series but I hope he knew what he was getting into by introducing these characters to us. He is stuck with them (Ethan, Savannah and Johnson) and us (his readers) for a while to come. This is a great new series that should be getting a lot more attention than it does.
So. I went back to see what I said in my review of the first book and found that it fits the second book as well. Maybe not the "characters within" comment but close enough (see below), huh? This is one of those continuing stories that do well in the movies and on TV. I was right back into the story, as if I never left, from the first page. Great book! I'm going to start the next one right away so another year doesn't pass me by. I can't flipping believe it's been a year!! So many books, so little time :/
Ethan Justice: Origins by Simon Jenner Dec 2013 "Nice. A satisfying read. I enjoyed the action, excitement and twists. The crazies were pretty much crazy@ !...and just a little bit sad. Whew! The characters are great. Totally enjoyed them all. Even the bit players and characters within characters made me laugh, or cringe... A nice finale and now I'm ready for more. This author is now on my list; and that's a good thing :)"
I received an ebook version for my Kindle from the author. Thanks Simon! All opinions expressed here are my own and not influenced by others. Love, love, love this series! Because of Ethan, Sav and Johnson of course. Ethan's parents are awesome too, and clearly he takes after his mom. Mom's rock!!
Recommended for adults...18+ Some adult stuff kids don't need to read about...parental discretion and all that. "Sick puppies" in the worst possible thoughts those words bring to mind. No...not real puppies!! In a "the guys are a bunch of perverted sociopathic pedophiles" kinda way...I can't believe she thought he was good looking for a minute. Just goes to show you that they don't have to appear evil on the outside to be the bad guy. Ugh. Ick. Thank goodness we have Ethan and crew to keep these types off the streets ;) Looks like we might be headed to the beach though…that's cool...always trash to be cleaned up there too. I'm game! Going to find out now - see ya!
This was given to in exchange for an honest review.
A great start and in the same style I loved from Ethan Justice: Origins, it helps you really get to know the antagonist as the the protagonists Ethan Justice and Savanna Jones go about their business.
Savanna and Ethan find themselves in increasing amounts of trouble during a case of a missing thirteen year old girl Amy. The quickly find out that this was only a small part of a much larger case that leads them into much deeper trouble than they first expected and have them both fighting for survival. Ethan is faced with having to protect his family and Savanna whilst trying to bring Windal's criminal activity into the open and saving lots of other young girls from a pedofile ring in the process.
There are some swearing, violence and gory scenes in this novel, but I don't think it detracts from the novel at all. I think that this book can be read as a stand alone novel too, so if you haven't read the first one, then it doesn't detract from this one at all.
Having read the first novel, I noticed how much Savanna and Ethan have changed over the course of the series, but it's not essential to have read the first one as they both change a lot just over the course of this book alone too. There is a good solid plot in this novel that keeps you wanting to read more, it is faced paced and a fantastic read. Whether you have read the first novel or not, it is worth buying this and you won't be disappointed.
Ethan and Savannah are feeling pretty optimistic. Their relationship is going well, their new business, Justice Investigations, is about to open, and Ethan is being honored by the Mayor for saving the city mere weeks ago. All this enthusiasm quickly changes though when Richard Windal walks into their lives. Windal is his own kind of evil and Ethan and Savannah find themselves in his crosshairs. Of course Agent Johnson is around to help but Ethan isn’t sure if Johnson is using them as bait or not. Throw in a missing girl as Justice Investigations first official case and this becomes an action packed roller coaster almost from the very first page.
Ethan and Savannah are at it again and they do not disappoint! This second Ethan Justice book gives us more depth into the characters we love and introduces us to a villain that makes your skin crawl. Ethan and Savannah are just as likable in this second installment, if not even more so, because of their real life dilemmas, insecurities, and just plain off the cuff improvisation. They are not super spies, and they have little training, but they are smart and they care and that makes it so much more fun watching them figure everything out. Then there is the villain…Windal. He is darker than dark and his crimes are some of the most intolerable acts of violence out there. Almost from the moment they meet we are yelling at the pages begging Savannah and Ethan to bring him down. It’s no easy feat though, but with the help of the favorite Agent Johnson, some really nifty gizmos and gadgets, and our courageous detective duo, this story will keep you enthralled from start to finish.
I have already bought the third book in the series so if you are a review skimmer then that should tell you all you need to know.
This is the second book in the series. For anyone not familiar with the series. The main characters are Ethan Justice and Savannah Jones. They meet in the first book and form an unlikely duo thrust into a adrenaline fueled couple of days where they are rocked by unexpected situation after situation.
Relentless picks basically where the first leaves off. I have to admit at first I was disappointed because while I like Ethan and Savannah they were....some what more moralistic than what I was thinking they should be (think Jack Reacher type here).
The disappointment did not last long. Through out the story I was thinking we need more lead pipe justice but then I had to reel myself in and remember that at the end of this book only three weeks have past for the characters. My expectations are unrealistic but by the end it looks like the corner is turned for our duo.
What I like about series like this is that I can see the author growing with each book and really by the chapter in this book. The action is great the gadgets are cool but we need more please. The villain is a depraved sociopath and the author has written him in a way that males you just want to bury him up to his neck and run him over with a lawn mower. Well that maybe extreme but you do feel a visceral hate for the character which keeps you glued to the book to see how Justice is going to be served!
After reading the first book in the series, Ethan Justice: Origins, I was cautiously optimistic when I bought this one. The reason for this is that I loved the first book so much that I wondered if Simon R. Jenner would be able to best it. After reading this book, I can safely say I loved it even more than the first. I can't wait for more books in this series to be released. This series is quickly moving to the top of my all-time favorites list. I'm excited to see what the future holds for Ethan Justice.
The detail in this book, while graphic at times, truly makes you feel as if you are standing next to the characters watching the story unfold which is something I find many books lack. The entire time I was reading this book, I had a clear picture in my mind of both the characters and the surroundings. Also, the high tech devices add an interesting element to the story as you never can guess what is going to happen next. I also liked to see that the characters continued to evolve during this book. To anybody looking for action packed thrillers that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end, I cannot recommend this series highly enough.
Relentless, the next in the Ethan Justice series of books started off great and then just got better and better. If anything I liked it better than the first one (always a good sign for things to come!) and once more we have a terrific adventure, peppered with humour, drama and of course a dark side…
This instalment finds Ethan and Savannah investigating a missing person and an underage sex ring and finding themselves in all kinds of trouble as usual. Once again Ethan finds himself facing a psychopath of epic proportions and in a deadly battle it is unclear which of them will emerge victorious…
I really enjoyed this yet again – although I’m going to have to have words with Mr Jenner if he persists in writing stuff that keeps me up all night – it was worth the rather accident prone day that followed whilst I wandered around sleepy eyed. Some dark yet current topics were covered in this novel, I would say in a realistic way. I love both Ethan and Savannah – a dynamic duo if ever there was one. Fast paced and unpredictable with a few twists in the tale its perfect summer reading. The bad guy is terrifically bad, the good guy is rather inept at times which makes for some highly hilarious moments and I look forward greatly to many more adventures.
My thanks to Mr Jenner for sending me this book to review. :)
I am reviewing the novel Ethan Justice Relentless by Simon Jenner which is an excellent thriller. This book is part of the Ethan Justice series and I did review the previous installment Origins recentless. It's quite a violent thriller but is well written and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. It's an enjoyable read. My favourite scene in the book is when a couple are getting into their car and a group of kids decide they want to steal it. They have knives and one of them puts a knofe to the ladies throat and demands the carkeys which is actually an electronic fob. The man hands over the keys but one of the kids tries to stab him anyway although he doesn't possess the strength to do any serious damage. Anyway the man puts a tazer to the kids forehead and zaps him and the other brats run off and leave him. There are other good scenes like someone killing someone and putting them in an acid bath & somebody else has a problem cutting up a body and fitting it in a barrel. There is quite a well known author called Shaun Hutson & I have reviewed quite a lot of his books and this book reminds me of his writing. They both write books that are quite gruesome but at the same time quite readable. I must admit I wish I had their writing ability. Anyway their is a happy ending to the book and also it's a reasonable length at nearly 200 pages.
Having read the first instalment of Justice and Jones adventures I sort of knew what to expect. So I thought! But this was written in a darker style with writing twists and turns, such as introducing the the villain of the piece straight away. The scenes from the villains point of view are dark and hypnotic giving an insight much stronger than the hero's POV.
The henchmen are great, the writing gives everyone an instant character that is easy to read. In this book the villains are dark and realistic and much better than the main heroes.
Not to take anything away from the rookie detectives they are still the modern versions of the Thin man detective couple of the 30's (google em) The interplay is great between Justice and Jones, realistic relationship for a young couple caught up in the action. The gadgets provided by Johnson from Earthguard are very Bondish but do not detract from the action.
All in all a great little story with action, romance and dark, dark villains.written from a new perspective from the first novel. I saved this one for the beach in Hurghada and boy am I glad I did. Can't wait for the next one to see the twist. Justice and Jones evolve a little each time and this keeps them fresh. Well done Simon
I received a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review. It did not influence my review.
Simon Jenner has delivered another thrilling, yet slightly disturbing book. I say disturbing because I didn't think he could come up with a villain more evil than in the first Ethan Justice book, but he has.
Ethan and Savanna have begun working for Earthguard, albeit for little income. It seems that Earthguard will be deducting expenses from their stipend, so they must take on paying clients. A well-known philanthropist, who makes a pass at Savannah(who won't tell Ethan) wants to hire Justice Investigations to help with some gang kids. What Ethan doesn't know is that Windal is actually running the gangs.
There isn't a dull moment in the book. The action is, well, Relentless. But Ethan and Savanna are beginning to come into their own in this follow up to "Origins." And the reader will also find out who Ethan takes after, as his parents are put in danger as well.
I can highly recommend this book, but please, read Ethan Justice: Origins first. I for one am waiting anxiously for book three. I can't wait to see how the author will top this villain.
I did not think that the sequel to the Ethan Justice Origins would be better than the first, but Ethan Justice: Relentless is just that, no it’s even better. This one is still a rollercoaster ride but I found it to be more of an emotional one, with me becoming as invested in the outcome as Ethan and Savannah. The development of the relationship of Ethan and Savannah is one of my favorite parts. Of course the dark humor is appreciated too. Getting into the bad guy's head not so much because he is really, really bad and obsessed with getting Savannah. There are disturbing scenes and events that seemed to be inconceivable to me. However Simon Jenner writes so that the villain seem real; with his actions possible, probable and nightmarish scary. I guess that is the reason for the saying "Hell is Hot." For the villain never for Simon. It also makes one thankful Ethan and Savannah made it out alive and together, ready for their next adventure in ridding the world of very, very bad guys. Along with them I hope we learn more of Agent Johnson's story, I'm sure he has one.
I received this e-book in exchange for an honest review.
Simon, you did it again! This is the second book in the Ethan Justice series. It was once again a brilliant book!
Ethan Justice and his beautiful partner Savanna Jones (with a little help from Ethans agency buddy, Johnson) take on their first case since starting their new detective agency. This case involves an under age sex ring run by the handsome and devious Richard Windal. He uses young adolescents known as "The Darks" to cause havoc on the streets, keeping his organization safe from discovery. Along with his nasty enforcers, (Mo, Burlington, and Stamp) Richard Windal is "Relentless" in his pursuit to destroy Ethan Justice and everyone that Ethan loves, especially Savanna Jones.
This is an action packed book, with a great story line. It is a much darker book than Simon's first book in the series; but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Can't wait for the next book in the Ethan Justice series!
A great follow-up novel that exceeds the first. It is a very fast-paced story that doesn't let up. You meet the antagonist at the very beginning and know that Justice will have to face off against him. It's paced like a thriller movie along the lines of Taken or the Bourne movies.
As in the first novel you get to know the antagonist through first-person narration. I love this style of character-building for the villain. It gives the reader a look into the mind of truly twisted individual.
Ethan Justice is not perfect hero. Jenner creates a believable character by having him make mistakes. This is different than some authors that create flawed characters by giving them some character trait like being antisocial, arrogant, or a recovering alcoholic. These traits rarely affect them when the plot ratchets up. Justice on the other hand makes mistakes in the heat of battle and it costs him. This reinforces the everyman quality of Justice that I enjoy.
Simon Jenner returns with another book in the brilliant Ethan series, set a short time after the first book Ethan is introduced by the mayor to a mysterious business man Richard Windal who also turns out to be the landlord of the Justice detective agency's building. At the award ceremony to thank Ethan for saving the town something upsets savannah and Ethan is determined to get to the bottom of what has upset her. What ensues is a thrill ride of murder, blackmail and dour crossing that threatens everyone Ethan has ever loved. This book touches on some of societies more taboo issues and at times this book is graphic both in a sexual an violent way, one thing is for sure though Simon Jenner has created a hero that we all can look up to and relate too and too that I take my hat off to you Mr Jenner.
This second book did not disappoint, as some do. It was fast paced and thrilling from the beginning.
I love the characters from book 1: Savannah, Ethan and Johnson. I loved getting to know them better. Their personalities are fleshed out more and they are all likable. There is a villain to despise and good guys to root for.
The subject matter is dark and scary. Scary because it is all too real. It is terrifying to know that (won't specify to ruin book for you) this is out there every day. Dark because the subject matter is not PG - more like X or R+ if there is such a thing.
Again as with book 1, extremely well written. Leaves you wanting more. Invested in the characters. Wanting to know what scrapes they will get into next. Would love to get to know Johnson a little more - new series? Get on that Simon. I would definitely recommend.
Ethan Justice- Relentless is the gripping, tension building, white knuckle ride sequel to Ethan Justice Origins that takes you on a nail biting, edge of the seat journey as we once again follow the daring exploits of the hero and heroine of the series, Ethan Justice and Savannah Jones. Ethan and Savannah are now Private Investigators in Justice Investigations with two new clients, one a mother with a missing daughter, the other their landlord, Richard Windal. The scene is set, add a manipulating, delusional and sadistic killer, many other colourful and larger than life characters, good and evil, pursuit and flight, amazing gizmos and gadgets, love and some laughs and we have the compelling and exciting read that is Relentless. I loved this thriller. A great second in the series and look forward to reading more from this talented author.
Simon. Simon. Simon. Just finished reading both of the Ethan Justice books and I am hooked! When is the next one coming? These are excellent books that start right off the bat with action! Nothing is worse than wading through endless chapters to get to the good stuff. I did not like Ethan's family too much in the beginning, but I see that they do come around somewhat, and I do understand how they feel, having a 25 year old who does not know what she wants to be when she "grows up." These books touched on murder, deceit, the young slave trade catering to high profile clients, blackmail, and humor thrown in for good measure. No doubt about it, excellent books. Thanks for the opportunity to read them.
Disclaimer: I received this book from a first-read giveaway.
Trigger Warning.
I was quite excited to read the sequel to Ethan Justice: Origins, and to see what Ethan and Savannah's next adventure would be. Holy crap. If you thought the first book was intense, you are going to be shocked at how slow it felt in comparison to the sequel.
I quite enjoyed it from start to finish, though there were some scenes that were difficult to read (very effective writing, but it was rough given what transpires in the novel).
That said... Ethan's mother grew on me quite quickly! ;)
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Having read the first Ethan Justice book and enjoyed it I was looking forward to reading this one and it didn't disappoint.
It was a slower paced start to this installment but once it grabbed me it didn't let go! This book was a lot darker than it's predecessor and I absolutely loved that about it. The bad guy on this is pure evil and unhinged with no redeeming qualities so you spend the entire book just wanting him to 'get his'. That's what you want from a book; to make you care about what happens to the characters you've invited into your life.
I hope there will be a third book because I will definitely be wanting to read it.
Wow! Talk about a page turner. Rarely was there a moment where I could find a good stopping point to get some sleep.
As with the first book in the series, the perspective regularly switches to that of the baddy, and is done superbly. Simon Jenner has succeeded in creating a more twisted and perverse bad guy than in Origins. His evil acts are described with nauseating effect and add to your hatred of the character.
Ethan and Savannah are just as likeable as in the first book, with more witty sarcasm from Ethan and defiant determination from Savannah. I have an abnormal amount of love for Ethan Justice and Savannah Jones and I can't wait until book three!
Ethan Justice and Savannah Jones, newly set up as Justice Investigations, private investigators, seem to attract attention from all the wrong people, and their actions make enemies determined to seek revenge.
Their relative inexperience and naiveté leads them into situations from which they cannot realistically hope to escape.
Action packed - a real emotional roller coaster – from relief when things go well, to heart-in-mouth tension when Ethan and Savannah are most in danger.
An excellent read – thoroughly recommended. The stuff of nightmares.
I was excited to continue the adventures of Ethan and Savannah after how well-written the last book was. Wasn't sure what to expect from the beginning of the book, but by a few chapters in I was hooked. Also liked how we got just a bit more from Agent Johnson this time around. Love how cool he is under pressure.
If you are a fan of action and thrillers, you'll absolutely love this series. Make sure to read the first book before this one, obviously. I have a copy of the next book in the series on my Kindle already, and am about to go check it out. Enjoy!!
Welcome back Ethan and Savannah! I've missed you! Simon Jenner does it again. He throws our two protagonists through the grinder again. I love the writing style and the action. This book grabs hold of you and won't let you go until the end. As you read the book you will be left with a sense of there is no way that things could get crazier. But guess what? It does. I highly recommend this outstanding read! Stop reading this review. Go get this book. Now. Read it. Are you still here. GO!
