Rogerson's Genesis 1-11 falls into two main parts. The first outlines recent approaches to Genesis 1-11 by mainstream scholars who have addressed environmental, liberation, feminist and literary issues. The second section addresses the text from the point of view of standard literary questions such as source division, literary criticism, myth and ancient Near Eastern parallels. The Guide thus aims to combine larger, hermeneutical questions with a detailed study of the context of Genesis 1-11.

A good into to contemporary theological study of Genesis 1-11

Reviews different approaches to understanding Genesis, for example, literary approach, liberation perspective, feminist perspective, ecological, etc. Gives insight into the perspectival theologies entry into Genesis 1-11.

The most valuable part is the last when the major interpretive issues for difficult passages in Genesis 1-11 are briefly examined. Provides an easy ramp to study these issues. This is the first of the T&T Clark Bible Study Guides I have read, and I will use additional volumes as I study other books of the Bible.

Recommended for alternative, modern perspectives on interpretive issues in Gen 1-11

Somewhat dated look at the various interpretations of Genesis 1-11 and a variety of issues with these 11 chapters such as if the account is a myth, if several account are woven together, etc... The author does an honest job of presenting various views succinctly and with fair readability.
