Review:
This book was laugh-out-loud hilarious! But it was also emotional with a heart-wrenching love triangle. And it had an intense plot. And three-dimensional characters. And sexy but also meaningful romance. And vampires. And a faery—
In other words, it just had everything.
I just love this series. It has become a total comfort read for me. And since I’ve read it multiple times now, I’ve decided to update my reviews, and I’m not even gonna try to contain my affection.
First of all, this series has ruined me for all other books because it has more heart-wrenching emotion AND more laugh-out-loud humor than anything I’ve ever read, and I’m still waiting for another series that makes me feel as deeply or clutch my stomach in pain from all the laughter as much as this one has. Especially the first time I read this first book, I was devastated, I was tense, I was worried, I was amused, I was swooning, I was feeling.
Speaking of feeling, I really love this love triangle because the best ones are the heart-wrenching ones, and WOW does the relationship between Zoey and Daniel nail that. And let me tell you, what is between Zoey and Daniel is most definitely, without a doubt, LOVE. They grew up together and know everything about each other and have so many memories together and have always been there for each other (that is, until Daniel started pulling away due to vampire reasons). I swoon every time at the way they appreciate everything about each other and their relationship, flaws and all. #RelationshipGoals I know Dev is also in that triangle somewhere, but I was too busy being on Team Daniel the first time I read this book to notice ;-) Ok, ok, Daniel is totally the stereotypical tormented, brooding character who thinks he’s a monster but doesn’t want the woman he loves to see him that way, but he’s more than just that. He also brings all the vampire-y goodness, and I sure do love me some vampire-y goodness!
And speaking of the characters, I have rarely been so invested in characters as I was (and still am) in these. I kid you not, I once emailed the author to fangirl and ask her… a really strange question about how two of the characters’ relationships progressed after the series ended because I still cared about them and still wanted to know things about their lives. (Ok, fine, if you must know, I asked her if they’re sleeping together now, which honestly isn’t as inappropriate of a question as it sounds if you’ve read the series. She was super nice in her reply, by the way! And yes, they are sleeping together, in case you were wondering.) But these characters, they’re just so complex and developed and flawed-yet-lovable---and I do mean legitimately flawed. The things they do are not black-and-white, so sometimes you don’t know if you should trust them, and sometimes you’re disappointed in them, and sometimes you want to slap them, but in the end you love them anyway for the good qualities they have. And they have such dynamic and complex friend/family/romantic relationships with each other. Plus, the interactions between them are pretty much the best thing ever because that’s where so much of the hilarity and emotion comes from.
And not only that, each book also a fantastic, action-packed plot, always involving some sort of heist, along with all sorts of supernatural fun, plus there's an overarching plot for the entire series that is really well thought-out and gets more complex as the series goes on.
BUT I will admit these books are not perfect. They have some things that are a little too romance trope-y for me. There are a lot of sex scenes, and they're not to my taste. Zoey thought to herself at one point that she was willing to be the men’s sex toy, and that's pretty much what those scenes are like (albeit a sex toy they give like 27 orgasms to). The men are pretty controlling and alpha, even though it’s all consensual. There’s some kink, like public sex rituals and mild BDSM. The characters also seem to solve all their relationship problems in bed and are very preoccupied by sex. There are also some slight problematic things, like Zoey's "not like other girls" moments.
Now you’re probably thinking, “Well, Kristen, that sounds like a lot of things you didn’t like. Are you sure you love this series as much as you say you do?” And the answer to that is, yes, I’m sure. Everything I love about these books completely outweighs the things I don’t. These books make me feel. Plus, many of my issues are personal taste things, and some of them were things I didn't even notice until reading the books multiple times because, on the first few reads, I was just 100% absorbed in the story.
I realize that this was more of a series review than a review for Steal the Light (and more of a love letter than a review), but hey, at least now you don’t have to worry that the series will go downhill ;-) And I will say that this first book, just like all the rest of the books, was the perfect mix of humor, action, intensity, angst, emotion, romance, and badassery!

I am pleasantly surprised at the amount of humor.
Plenty of Laugh 😁 Out 😆Loud 😂 moments.
Loved all the characters & female mc is fantastic.
Areas that had a 'YA' feel 🙁.
Loaded with action.
Slow build to the intimate adult scenes.
Surprising twist & turns.
A couple of slow areas.
Some repetition (very minor).
1 or 2 editing errors.
A fun read that did not disappoint.

Where to start with this one? I love Lexi Blake’s books (Masters & Mercenaries) series and happened upon this book before its release date. Like many others I was surprised and excited about this UF/paranormal book being as it is far from the BDSM/erotic books she has written previously. So it went straight on my tbr list.
Before I started reading this one, I wasn’t sure what age range it was aimed at, YA, new adult, was it erotic? It wasn’t clear in the description. Well I would say it is somewhere between new adult and erotic as there are some classic-Lexi-hot scenes, which are slightly tamer than in her other series.
First and foremost though, it is a fantasy/paranormal story, based around a group of friends - Zoey the human, who happens to be the daughter of a master thief, Daniel the vampire/first love/ex-love, Neil the gay werewolf and Sarah the witch. Together they take on contracts to steal all things supernatural. Zoey ends up taking on a new contract to procure the Light of Alhorra, a Fae artefact of sorts, for a demon. She doesn’t know her new client is a demon until she accepts the job, so if she fails she will have to forfeit her soul. Yeah, if that’s not incentive enough, the million dollar reward is.
This then sets the scene for a series of action-packed, unexpected and sometimes weird events as Zoey realises she is not the only one after the Light (which happens to be a box!)
What I liked about this book was the sudden action-filled scenes between the gang and various demons, humans, shifters and Fae. One minute everything would be calm and the next the stakes and silver bullets are flying. However I found that in between these scenes, I kept drifting off as I was reading. I cant say exactly why that is as the writing was really good and by far from boring.
As the blurb suggests, there is a ‘thing’ between Zoey and Daniel, who were lovers before he was turned vampire several years ago. Oh, and in this world vampires are not created from a bite but rather through genes. Daniel dies in a car crash, Zoey is distraught, and then Daniel turns up one night a vampire. This part is told through a flash-back so you get to see that Daniel being a vampire didnt stop either from loving and wanting to be together….initially. After their first night together as a vampire-human couple, Daniel is taken away for ‘training’ by the Council, which is normal for every new vampire. When he returns years later, he is a completely different person and effectively shuts Zoey out with the classic, “I’m no good for you” routine. At this point I was like, “yeah, ive heard that one before” but as the story progresses you learn that Daniel isn’t just your ordinary vampire and might just have a real excuse for his behaviour.
I did find it funny when Zoey essentially decided to move on with her life (and so she should) and had her first date in years with the gorgeous, smoking’ hot fairy – Dev. It doesn’t end up being a love triangle, but it kicks Daniel up the arse somewhat.
So in between all of this, there is still the matter of finding the Light/box. I wont say much else apart from, when it is opened, what came out of it….well I wasn’t expecting that! I was like…………

Other things I liked? Well the hot, brooding vampire is quite nice, who is surprisingly possessive when the hot fairy turns up. Oh, the hot fairy was something else I enjoyed too ;) Might be weird, but I found it strangely hot that Neil was gay and as camp as could be when in human form, but turns into a ravaging beast when his friends are threatened……nice!
The ending was different, something I didn’t expect and although not a cliffhanger, does set up well for the next in the series.
On the whole a good read but I wasnt gripped by it as much as I wanted to be.

Zoey is a thief who specialises in stealing arcane artefacts, as the only human on her crew she often finds herself in dangerous situations but she's usually quite good at getting out of them too, especially with the help of her vampire ex-fiancé and the witch and werewolf they work alongside. That is until the day she is tricked into signing a contract with a demon and now her very soul is at risk.
I'm fairly new to Lexi Blake's writing, I've recently been devouring her rereleases of the books she previously published under the pen name Sophie Oak and when I realised she also had an urban fantasy series (one of my favourite genres) I just had to dive in. Steal the Light was a fab start to the series and I plan to devour the rest as soon as possible.
Zoey had her heart broken when her fiancé and childhood sweetheart, Daniel, died in a car crash. She was overjoyed when he came back as a vampire but then he was dragged away by the vampire council and when he returned two years later he wasn't the man she knew and loved. Zoey still desperately loves him but Daniel keeps her at arm's length and insists that there can be no future for them other than friendship. They work together and make a good team but Daniel's heart is completely closed off from her. When they are tricked into searching for a fae artefact for a demon the job leads Zoey to faery prince Dev and for the first time she finds herself attracted to someone other than Daniel. Romance is complicated though and she really should be focused on getting the demon off her back and saving her soul.
Normally I shy away from books with even a hint of a love triangle in them, it's a trope that has been done to death in UF and it's one I'm really sick of reading about but knowing Lexi Blake's penchant for writing menage stories I'm kind of hoping that this one will have a much different outcome to most! I actually thought the triangle was handled really well here and I have a hard time deciding which of the guys I like most. There is a lot of history between Zoey and Daniel and you can feel how much she loves him, he has always been the centre of her world but the new, brooding and secretive vampire is not the Daniel she fell in love with and he refuses to let her get close to him again. Dev, on the other hand, is far less complicated. He is warm, funny and leaves Zoey in no doubt that he is attracted to her. Dev gives her the attention she has been craving for such a long time and he makes it all so easy.
We know all along that Daniel is keeping things from Zoey but I have to admit I was angry with him when the depth of his deception was revealed towards the end of the story. I know he was trying to protect her but I hate it when people keep important things hidden from their loved ones so I could understand why Zoey felt so betrayed and I wasn't at all surprised by how things played out. I'm hoping that we'll see him start to redeem himself in future books though and I'm also looking forward to learning more about Dev.
Steal the Light has great main characters, plenty of humour, lots of action and all the heat you'd expect from a Lexi Blake book so I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I know he was trying to protect her but I hate it when people keep important things hidden from their loved ones so I could understand why Zoey felt so betrayed and I wasn't at all surprised by how things played out. I'm hoping that we'll see him start to redeem himself in future books though and I'm also looking forward to learning more about Dev.
Steal the Light has great main characters, plenty of humour, lots of action and all the heat you'd expect from a Lexi Blake book so I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Good UF/paranormal read, great characters, but I wouldn't expect anything else from this author, strong contemporary world-building, plenty of action, not too much sex but it hit the right notes. Laugh out loud moments and snarky as snarky can be. Certainly more of a NA read than totally adult but I liked the fact that it was plot driven rather than erotically driven, it's still sensual. Oh yes, there is a love triangle and I assume I know where this is heading... and I approve. I love a tortured vampire, and Daniel is excellent in that role. Dev is a gorgeous and supportive fae outcast who has made something of himself, and he is just as good for Zoey in different ways.

At the end of the day this is highly entertaining reading and I recommend it for some incredibly charming and action-packed escapist fun, I'd be saying yay if these two guys were willing to go to Hell and back for me. So bring it.
I know this series has been around for a while but maybe I'll write a longer review on the blog, there are some good quotes I could sure use, but there's 30 odd status updates on here for anyone interested. I recommend you read the author foreword, it is very open and emotional and gives some insight into the core of this book.

This was a great paranormal romance. They don't always work for me, but this one managed to fill the bill for both romance and a fun read. As one might assume from the series title, this book is about a group of professional thieves. Zoey is human and she has a team of paranormal working with her. Right away Daniel is introduced, a vampire who used to be Zoe's human love.
The plot is focused around the mission: for Zoe to steal the light of Alhorra; however, while the reward is supposedly huge so is the "punishment" if she doesn't succeed. I loved the magic displayed, the power of certain characters, and the dynamics among them. I didn't feel like anything was contrived; rather, it all felt real and totally believable.

Steal the Light introduces us to Zoey Wharton, a thief like her father. He's a legend who rarely accepts new clients. She's looking to prove herself, compete with the best, make her father proud and she feels her team, made up by Daniel (vampire), Neil (werewolf), and Sarah (witch), are perfectly capable of stealing the Light of Alhorra for Harry Wharton. The payout? “... five hundred thousand up front, with another five hundred on delivery of the object.” So taken by that amount of money, she skips the checks she normally runs before a job accepting immediately instead. The problem? She learns too late that her new client is a demon. Now, her soul and the soul of Daniel - the love of her life, her former fiancée, and secretive uber-vampire - are on the line.
Of note, I jumped ahead in the series/spin-off and read Ripper (Thieves #6, Hunters #1) first. I didn't find it hurt not having read the five previous Thieves books first, but I will continue in order from here on out to see how the two connect. They, so far, seem to be set in the same world featuring new main characters and some character crossover (Thieves --> Hunters).

“Just remember that when dealing with demons, the devil really is in the details.”While I enjoyed getting to know Zoey and her team, as well as some of the other supernaturals in Zoey's life, there was a (dreaded) love triangle. Yet, I found myself intrigued by both men and the shared history between Zoey and Daniel made this story element a bit more tolerable for me. The book was a quick read and as many things are coming to light and quickly changing in her life, I'll likely continue to read on in the series sooner rather than later.
Of note, I jumped ahead in the series/spin-off and read Ripper (Thieves #6, Hunters #1) first. Me not being a lover of paranormal books didn't stop me from this one! Zoey Wharton and her band of supernatural thieves are just so fun to read about!
Zoey is snarky and that is my favorite type. Plus she has a couple guys panting after her. Almost like True Blood in a sense except the 2 vampires after Sookie are a vampire and a fairy in this story. But add in a cast of hilarious characters and you're just devouring this book! 288 pages and I read it in about a day - that's including work and sleeping.
Can't wait for more!!

Full disclosure, I read book 6 in this series first as part of the new spin off - Thieves. I was prepared to hate this book because I didn't like Daniel in book 6 and I wasn't impressed with Zoey. This series must be read in order because it builds upon each other. Oh dear lord I cried at the end of this book. I really liked Zoey and I can't believe how Daniel ends up in book 6. It is a shock.
Learning the early parts of how Daniel and Zoey first started off their relationship is so sweet. As Dev enters into this world in this "all's fair in love and war", Zoey is one lucky lady. Or unlucky because she is involved with two men and this is not a menage. It is not possible to have a menage between Daniel, Zoey and Dev based on this cruel vampire world.
What I liked about this book is the how Zoey has an occupation. She's not a girl waiting to be rescued. She is a thief and she's good at it. Well, relatively good at it. She is aware of the supernatural world and getting deeper into it. The world building in here is light but it is only because Ms. Blake will fully flesh it out in the later books.
One last thing which really moved me about this book is the Author's note. For those who skim over that part to just read the story, go back and read it. I knew this book would have to invoke some deep emotion based on what Ms. Blake wrote. Whilst I am sadden to learn of her hardship, I'm really impressed with what she did with it. After reading this book, I immediately read the next. Highly recommended for those who believe lover will conquer all.

Finally!!!
Thanks to who ever the freaking god like person that allowed me to finally find a book that held my interest past four pages. I was getting worried there for a while. I tried and tried. In fact, I tried a little over 180+ books bofore I finally came across this one. Thank You!!!
I also helped Knowing that this author, Lexi Blake is also Sophie Oak. I hadn’t known that until earlier today. I think that made me a little bit more susceptible to the story.
That being said, the book. I enjoyed this book. To me it was similar to “Immortals After Dark,” “Darkfever,” and “Magic Bite” being that they’re set in a world where vampires, Fae, and vampires do exist but are unknown to almost every human on this plane. It was the right kind of PRN and adventure to keep the story going. It also added more to the story if you were fortunate enough to read Mrs. Blake’s Forward note before reading the story. It really brough the romance an extra step beyond.
I did however figured the ‘Out’ well before the ending came to light. But I have always been able to spot those 85% of the time. Or I could just chop it up to too much reading that I find all of those foreshadowing and answers early on the way.
But over all, I am now off to read the next book in this series. I will not let this momento go yet. But at last, I know I will be exactly here come the end of this series and I struggle to find the next great read.

I enjoyed this book even though it was rather stupid. Zoey has two hot guys lusting after her and I'm over here rolling my eyes as hard as I can.
The author doesn't seem capable of using a dictionary:

-Dev was nonplussed. “Oh, I find it just makes me work all the harder. I haven’t heard any complaints yet. Certainly none recently.”

I LOVED this book. It was everything I want in a Paranormal Romance. There were twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the world building, characters, and the writing was fantastic.

This book has been on my TBR for ages. I owned it in three formats and it was still sitting there. I think a part of me wasn't sure how I would like Lexi Blake's style in an urban fantasy because I'm used to reading erotic romance by her. Well, I'm kicking my own ass right now because this was such a fun urban fantasy read. In this series, we follow a group of professional supernatural thieves. Our heroine, Zoey, is human and has a team of supernaturals working with her on small jobs while she's making her own name and getting out from under her father's shadow. One of those supernaturals is the only love of her life, Daniel. He died in an accident a few years ago and came back as a vampire. Their relationship was never the same.
They're offered a job to steal the Light of Alhorra and the payment is a big load of cash. If it seems too good to be true, that's because it is. And their souls may be damned for all eternity if they don't complete the job.
STEAL THE LIGHT has everything I look for in an urban fantasy. A full set of supernatural creatures with magic, strengths, and powers. The plot of this story is well balanced with introducing us to the world and building on the backstory of the romance between Daniel and Zoey. I never felt like one part was more present than the other and it just flowed really nicely. I wanted to keep going and find out what was going to happen. Things never felt over the top or unbelievable like it sometimes can with these types of stories. It was logical and action packed and I think some of Ms. Blake's romantic suspense elements where nicely woven into the narration of this book.
In the end, I really enjoyed this world and this group of characters as a whole and I cannot wait to continue reading the series and see what other trouble they get themselves into. Of course, I need to know how things develop in the romance department as well.

On the demand of a friend, I picked up this book soon after I had it signed by the author at ROR 18. All I can do now is shake my head and wonder what rock I've been under that I totally missed this series. Zoey is awesome, Daniel is a bit of a douche and I love Dev. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Zoey Wharton has grown up in a family who prides themselves on being 'procurement specialists' for anything/everything if the price is right. In other words, thieves who can get anything for anyone mortal or supernatural as long as they get paid enough.
Trying to step out of the shadows of her father's reputation Zoey has formed her own elite team including a werewolf, vampire, and witch who are slowly gaining notoriety but they haven't been able to get any big ticket contracts. That all changes when she's offered one million dollars to steal the Light of Alhorra which is owned by the fae. Seems simple enough until she finds out not reading the fine print of a contract made with supernatural clients can be very detrimental to your health and mortality.
OK. There is so much more to this book than my own summary. There is a very strong romantic element but an even stronger urban fantasy storyline. This first in book series will appeal to those who have read and enjoyed Sierra Dean's Secret McQueen Series , Laurell Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series , Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress Series , and yes, the better installment's of Charlain Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series. The world building and urban fantasy elements are so well done that I know if the word gets out about this series it's gonna be a best seller fan favorite series. I know I will be.
Zoey, the strong female lead character, comes from a family of thieves but has gone independent and formed a team of her own including: her first and only childhood love Daniel, who is now a vampire; Neil, a gay werewolf; Sarah, a witch; and Devinshea Quinn, a fae prince. They have formed a family of sorts and it was pure fun to read their interaction and treatment of each other yet know that were loyal to each other and would die to protect any one of them if needed. Which was tested multiple times in this story of course.
Now, there is a romantic element and I'm sure it will be no surprise that it involves Zoey, Daniel, And Devinshea. I was very very concerned if this would be a love triangle and I'd have to pick a team but as this author is known for including menage relationships in many of her previous books I had high hopes that I wouldn't have to. And. I really didn't see if there would be any adult content so that worried me. Why? Because the author writes HAWT and delicious scenes that have been very very satisfying in the past and I would surely be sad if she didn't include some paranormal studly bedroom action. I won't give away a lot due to spoiler info but.... there is erotic adult content in this book but between who and how indepth I won't say. You'll have to read the book to find out. hehehe.
As for the urban fantasy slant. This book does include many of the supernatural entities including the above mentioned and a few others including demons, satan, and other cameo entities. The premise though is that the paranormal world has not been outed publicly yet so much of the fun includes the degree to which the higher powers keep their existence a secret. But possession and thievery of unique, magical, and/or unique heirlooms is the same the world over and Zoey doesn't discriminate by stealing for profit for any client be it mortal or supernatural using all state of the art technological toys to get the job done. The majority of the book does include snarky attitude by Zoey, and humorous scenes including a constantly hungry werewolf who needs to be fed regularly or there are dire consequences including having him suffer through his hunger pains by shopping at Aeropostale. And don't even get me started on how witches and vampires handle stress. lol.
I am so awestruck by this book and the potential for more installments. I've been told there is five books planned for the series (so far) so I realize that there is a lot more to look forward to. I did have a few concerns/issues about parts of this book that had more to do with scratch my head flow issues than content/erotica which is why I didn't go the full five star rating. I guess I'll have to wait for the next installment (which I see is due out Oct/2013) to see where this series goes.

I remember the time when I first fell in love with reading. I picked up a huge hard cover book that was on sale at Barnes & Noble and it was an intriguing cover and it read, GUILTY PLEASURES by Laurell K Hamilton. I wanted to have something to read on a long plane ride back to Florida. I started the book thinking that I would quickly get tired and fall asleep (I HATE FLYING, by the way) Well, let’s just say after reading the first chapter I could not put it down and I went straight through that series with no stops in between. That is when I fell in love with reading. I tell you this story, because the feeling I got when I started the Anita Blake series, is the same feeling I got when I started STEAL THE LIGHT by Lexi Blake. Pure bliss, pure contentment. Lexi is so spectacular at creating these worlds that you just never want to leave. She creates these characters that you want to hang out with. Whether she’s giving us an extremely hot ménage scene, a sexy suspenseful spy story, or a wonderful urban fantasy, Lexi Blake WILL keep you captivated until the very last page.

I even found myself shedding a few tears throughout the story, and when you get this girl to get angry, laugh, and cry all in one sitting, I think you might have a winner in your hands!
Even though this is an Urban Fantasy book, it’s still a LEXI BLAKE book, and therefore by definition there HAS to be an amazing, sensual, and beautiful love story behind it all, and of course a bonus, if it includes more than 2 people! *WINKS*

It will transport you to a world where demons are dressed like they are from Wall Street, and even though a werewolf is gay, he will still rip your throat out, and no matter how sick and twisted a vampire might act, he will still always be the sexiest man in the room! Well done Lexi! Congratulations on a fantastic start to what is going to be another great series, and Thank You for reminding me why I fell in love with reading!

You will instantly fall in love with Zoey, Daniel, and Dev! These three are amazing, complicated characters that are brought together by some pretty crazy circumstances. Full of suspense and wonder, STEAL THE LIGHT will not only keep you on your toes and have you wondering what will happen next. It will transport you to a world where demons are dressed like they are from Wall Street, and even though a werewolf is gay, he will still rip your throat out, and no matter how sick and twisted a vampire might act, he will still always be the sexiest man in the room! Well done Lexi! Congratulations on a fantastic start to what is going to be another great series, and Thank You for reminding me why I fell in love with reading!

This book was so damn hard to get through, and I mean that in the nicest way. Really. Not even a smidge of snark intended. I actually had to stop and read something else, something light and silly a couple times before I could build up the emotional fortitude to continue with Steal the Light.
Ok, big picture review-y stuff first: this is PNR from one of my all-time favorite BDSM/menage con-rom authors. But this series has no BDSM, no menage, and sexy-times more in keeping with a PNR. What it does have is a metric ton of emotional agony right off the bat. I challenge anyone to read the prologue without getting a little verklempt. By the time chapter two finishes up, you will be helplessly hooked.
Tons of action, loveable characters, clever writing, and palpable tension from beginning to end. Daniel is a loveable nerd stuck in the body of a smoking-hot vampire. Dev is the devil-may-care bad boy who manages to ogle with respect (don't try it at home, kids). Zoey is the mundane human chick that manages to be neither TSTL nor possessing of a magical vagina that cures all plot twists. All told, this is a great PNR with page-turning action, some fun world-building, and a nice mix of drama and humor to keep things moving.
So why was it so hard to read, why did I get The Vapors and run off crying like a little girl into some rom-com billionaire Alpha play-boy snoozefest until I could pull up my big-girl panties and try again? Two things. First, hoooo boy, there is one humdinger of a love triangle in this book. And it's not the annoying, shallow kind where one character turns out to be ridiculously evil so nobody has to feel guilty for screwing around by the end. No, this book has the rip-your-guts-out, it's-nobody's-fault-life-is-so-cruel, but we're-all-going-to-be-crying-into-our-box-wine-before-this-is-done kind of triangle. And .
Second reason I lost my nerve? The author's foreword. I don't know why I happened to read this one, as I normally skip them. They're usually just long lists of agents, editors, beta readers, spouses, kids, dogs, cats, baristas, etc. to be thanked. This time, not so much. Knowing the real-life backstory to this book made the fictional tension between Zoey and Daniel that much more visceral and scary and fucking depressing and powerful. Who knows if it'll have that effect on everyone, but for me? Wow. Lexi Blake is already one of my favorite writers, but after this, I'm also a fervent admirer of her giant brass balls. I'm in awe of the bravery it took to write something like this, with so much of herself wrapped in it, and then to peel back the curtain to her readers, too? Wow.

"Oh, yes, the Hell plane is a magical place of demonic harmony where we all hold hands and shit rainbows."
This had a lot of potential, it really did.
I am a sucker for books that incorporate so many different creatures.
There were just so many problems with it.
I didn't for one minute buy that Zoey was a leader of anyone. She could not handle herself, she had no powers or anything that gave her any status. She was just a pathetic human.
For being written for adults, I was completely surprised by the immaturity of all of the characters. I felt like I was reading about kids in high school.
I wasn't thrilled with the structure of the read either. There's a massive time gap where you don't know anything, and, unfortunately, all of the information that is being withheld from you is incredibly important and pertinent to the character relationships, the plot, and the wheres, hows, and whys of everything. I wasn't impressed with having it all relayed to me in reflection.
The romance....
Well for one, the relationship between Zoey and Daniel actually felt more like siblings to me.
Secondly, the love triangle aspect of things was so childish and ridiculous that it did nothing for me except reduce my liking for Zoey even further.
It sure didn't help that the relationship between Zoey and Dev was insta-love, either. There was time for that relationship to grow, it didn't need to be rushed the way it was.
The book was incredibly redundant. It explained things over and over again. I didn't need a thousand reminders of what was going on. It slowed down the book a lot.
Sex magic...again, are we in high school? Sure felt like it.
The Good
The plot twist was a good angle. Daniel was an interesting character.
Zoey's profession was interesting and I even enjoyed the Burn Notice feel to things when Blake would explain how thievery worked.
Other than that though, I just wasn't impressed. I need a lot more action instead of having everything told to me.
I need to have a romance that feels solid rather than extremely cliche.
I need good, creative drama that doesn't stem from cheating and love triangle angst.
Due to everything this read lacks, I just won't bother reading further. But it really wasn't that bad for a free read.

I have been a fan of paranormal romance ever since I read Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. I m always drawn to magic, folklore and paranormal activity. I guess I am weird like that. Steal the Light encompasses everything that is magical and brilliant. It was a rich paranormal story that frankly thrilled me. It was mysterious, angsty and just riveting book that gripped me in from the first sentence to the last sentence. I was so intrigued.
Lexi Blake is known for the Master and Mercenaries series. I freaking love that series and it is one of my favourite series from her. But now the Thieves series is proving to be my other favourite series. There was something so unique and emotional about Steal the Light that it completely touched every fiber of me. Paranormal romance is known for action and suspense but this one was different because it had that extra emotional element that rocked me to the core.
The characters were so explosive. They each told a very special story that was so sensational that it added so much depth to the story. Zoey and Daniel have been through a lot of pain and heart ache that it completely ached my story. I felt for them more than any couple I have ever felt.
Steal the Light really was an exceptional paranormal story that you definitely have to read.

I love this world. These characters. The conflict. It isn't all sweet romance, hot sex, and fairytale endings. It's intelligent, well thought out and seriously entertaining plots, problems, and potential.
Really really fun. I read it straight through, not putting it down once.

I really was not happy with the ending. I'm not liking the love triangle aspect. Cheating or not, just not my thing. Daniel really needs to let Zoey in on things. Even I was aggravated with him. I loved Neil though. he was hilarious!

This book is like the recipe for a perfect PNR. Awesome balance of kick-ass heroine, trickery, suspense, intrigue and an iddy biddy love triangle with a vampire and a faery. It doesn't get much better than this.

This was a really interesting story line involving the Human, Zoey, leader of a group of thieves and her team: Daniel, The Vampire and love of her life when he was human. Neil, the gay werewolf and funny guy. Sarah, the sassy witch. They add Dev, the hot half faery, half human to the mix. We are treated to a great love triangle between Daniel, Zoey and Dev. Zoey is still pinning for her human fiance who has been a vampire for 5 years now when she meets sexy and sweet Dev.
This had all the twists, turns and subplots that I love in Lexi Blake book. The only thing missing for me was the heat. The few sex scenes we were treated to were not Lexi's normal steamy detailed scenes. Don't get me wrong, they were not bad just not the erotic version.
It will be interesting to see what transpires between Zoey and Daniel throughout the series. I love Dev, but I am team Daniel all the way in this one so far.

Steal the Light is the first book in a new series by the great Lexi Blake! It is quite different than what we have gotten from her in the past. This paranormal tale has it all vampires, shifters, witches, and a human that has more spirit than she should.
Zoey has lived through losing the person that meant the most in this world to her, but she got him back only he was different than he was before. Now as a badass vampire Daniel keeps her at arm’s length, but continues to protect her. She is a master thief with a crew that is quite the magical band of misfits. Her latest client may just be the end of her and her crew. She has made a verbal contract to get an item for a demon, and failure to do this could mean spending a good chunk of the rest of her life in Hell!!
I truly love that Lexi took vampires and made them her own. It isn’t a classic version of a vampire tale. I really enjoyed the suspenseful element of this story. You truly don’t know how they can get out of this one without losing someone near and dear to their hearts. I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us!! Hope y’all enjoy this one as much as I have!!

4 stars. I'm not going to write a full review, but I am really enjoying this series. I like the world being built, all the interesting characters and the love story developing between Dev, Daniel and Zoey.

Truly awesome Paranormal Romance. Nothing says paranormal like human girl who loves a vampire king and meets a sexy Fae. Thrown in her witch friend and Werewolf buddy and now the fun begins. I can't wait to see how things develop for Zoey, Daniel and Dev. This book contains lots of adventure and hot action. I have already purchased the remaining four books and look forward to reading them. I was already a fan of Lexi Blake and she never disappoints!
