Silo Saga Universe

Visions of Wool, A Silo Story

Rate this book
Set in Hugh Howey's World of WOOL, VISIONS of WOOL, is the story of Grace, who, by the very nature of her being, threatens the fabric of the Silo. She has visions. Visions of the world outside before it was forbidden, before they were buried underground, while the skies were still clear blue and animals beyond reckoning still roamed the earth. But her visions don't stop there. Grace is put to the test when she envisions an uprising in the Silo, and the death of the young man she loves.

With the help of her visions and a mysterious book handed down through the centuries, she finds herself fighting against time, not only to save those she loves, but for the survival of future generations.

In 2005, I completed my first novel which sits loved but unpublished, in a drawer. I've had numerous non-fiction articles published in the Body, Mind and Soul section of LUX Magazine. VISIONS of WOOL was my first published work of fiction, then along came Concessions, and a little story called The Man Upstairs in a DeadPixels Publication called, Flying Toasters.

My most recent publication is a book of poetry called, Elemental.

I have never been much 'into' fanfic, preferring not to adulterate the original story, theme and characters. I had made up my mind to continue this treatment of WOOL fanfic but was influenced by a friend who recommended I give this story a try. I must say that while the story is certainly a Silo story, it doesn't rely too heavily on Hugh Howey's world other than the setting. This story could easily stand alone. The plot and characters are well developed and lend a sense of hope to life in the Silo. I think this is Hanna Elizabeth's first published story, but I'm sure it won't be her last and I have no doubt that she will 'escape' the Silo to indulge us in other worlds of her own creation as well. I look forward to her future writings.

I found this tale of silo life to be a refreshing change of pace. It’s rare to find a positive approach to the trials of the folks living their lives underground in Hugh Howey’s world of WOOL.

That’s not to say that Visions is any kind of fantasy story. This is about life in a silo, after all. It’s no spoiler to say there is death and destruction involved – this is expected. The difference lies in the will of the main characters to repair the damage to people and property in a manner that will result in a better life for all.

Grace and her family have unusual abilities, and a unique and carefully guarded heritage. They have a legacy of their own, and use the experience of the past to plan for the future. That future includes surviving the silo culture to help with what comes next. Like her ancestors, Grace has a path to travel that is not easy. She accepts that with determination, but without despair. I liked that her knowledge of the big picture is secondary to her immediate concerns. She believes that success in the long term means her silo must not simply survive, but thrive. Hanna Elizabeth has done the unusual, creating strong characters with a positive agenda.

Both plot and character development are very well done, making this book a real pleasure to read. While this is a complete story, there are a few unanswered questions left. I look forward to the sequel with that in mind. I’m hoping Grace and her family will fare well.

I was very hesitant about reading this one. The reason for my hesitation being that I had only recently heard about “fan-fiction” and, honestly, I didn’t like the idea of people leaching off of another’s fame. Despite my reservations I decided to delve into Visions. First of all, I felt foolish for ever being so pessimistic and reluctant to read such a story, and second, I fell in love with the world of Wool all over again. Hanna told a beautiful story in a very beautiful and well written way. She had me on the edge of my seat time and time again. Very few stories have evoked such an emotional response from me… I truly still don’t know what to say other than… Well done!

This is an excellent story by Hanna Elizabeth which is complementary to both Shift and Wool series. As recommended by the author don't read this until you read Wool of Shift and understand the make up of the Silos.

This story is all about young Grace and how she survives in a Silo full of chaos. I read it in one sitting and highly recommend to anyone who is a fan.

I'm intrigued by the idea of "fan-fic," as I find I can continue on with adventures set in the world from the primary works which I've loved. "Visions of Wool, A Silo Story" is a nice addition to the wooliverse, about a young girl, Grace, who has visions of the future, of clear skies and animals and the world before the Silo, and of the future. As Grace works to understand the nature of her visions, she and the rest of the residents of Silo are caught up in an uprising of people from the lower levels, who are hellbent on getting to the topside. Reading this story brought back all of the unique characteristics of the world of Silo back to me, and I'm ready now to continue in this series. I enjoyed Grace's story, and agree with many other readers here that it's nice to read a Silo story that contains hope and optimism for the future. Kudos to the author!

I love how the author reaches out and brings you right into the story. I really enjoyed how well written this story was and how the characters in the book make you feel as if you are a part of their stories and part of their world. You will not regret reading this book and becoming part of Grace's story!!

Enchanting world and a fantastic writer. I enjoyed Visions of Wool so much, I've started reading Wool Omnibus by Hugh Howey, Hanna's inspiration for this story. I can't believe I've been missing out on such an amazing world.

A very nice piece of Fan Fic that was well written and entertaining. If you are a fan of Hugh Howey's Wooliverse, this will entertain. It was interesting to see a paranormal spin on silo life and I enjoyed the read. Well done, Hanna!

Having been positively impressed by the Wool Series, I was very excited to start this story and indulge myself in the Silo world. Positives first: the writing is quite fluid and the characters are very likeable and well developed, considering the length of the book. However, it was really difficult to go through the first chapters, as I was really confused with what was going on,having Grace jumping in and out of her visions while not being completely familiar with her power. also ,I felt the end came a bit too abruptly and there was so much potential with the story going further. I was even expecting some exciting developments when Grace's eyes turned white ( what is happening to her body? something extraordinary and unexpected because Grace was one of her kind since Annabelle?) But nothing more than a rather predictable ending came and I was a bit sad about that.
Nonetheless,it was a decent read. Go try!

I wanted to like this story, I really did. I find the Wool universe intriguing and love the idea that the author Hugh Howey is enthusiastic about fan fic writers playing in his sandbox with his blessing. The author's sweet Forward about her experience writing this story and her meeting with Hugh Howey also let to increased expectations. But the story: a blatant Mary Sue fan fic. A beautiful, tragic but brave heroine who is The Chosen One... Sorry Ms. Elizabeth. Before posting anymore Wool fanfic you need a ruthlessly honest Editor.

After reading only 70%, I couldn't read any more. The introduction was actually pretty interesting, and I had great hopes for this Wool fan fiction, especially because I loved the Wool books. The whole book is about the main character walking up the silo and trying to figure out her history. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen that never came along. It was sadly very boring!

First time reading fan fiction. It did give me a fix of Silo life and the story was good. Better editing and character development would have added to the experience. I had never thought of continuing a world another author had created with a different storyline. Interesting concept.

Good ideas, different than other wool fan-fiction

I liked the main story and the idea of the book. Overall the book was very optimistic. It is a great addition to the wool series.
