I never saw Eddie Hapgood but in my 50 years Ashley was the finest left back the club has had. That said, this book defends some of the furore about his salary and the 2006 World Cup, with David Dein, painted as the villain. Ashley explains that the finding of the enquiry before Sir Philip Otton was wrong and that he never was "tapped up" by Chelsea, a club he subsequently joined. He also gives a different view of the events of the 2006 final to those written by Theo Walcott and Sol Campbell. However one hopes that he and Cheryl Tweedy have a long and happy future together. There is a bit of "the lady doth complain too much" about the book and I wish it didn't repeat the word "wern't" at inappropriate times. Which goes back to the basic premise that Ashley was a fabulous left back, an integral part of the invincible team and a great servant to Arsenal.
