As a guy reading a fantasy romance book I was surprised by how well this book was written. From page 30 I was hooked. Ran managed to capture all of the fun nostalgia of meeting your first love (hopefully Coop and Dany’s forever) which is what initially drew me more into this book. Romance aside however, this book is action packed and keeps you at the edge of your seat. This is easily top 5 books that I’ve read this year and edges top 10 of all time. A masterclass in fantasy romance writing that should become an example of how to properly write the genre. Well done Mr. Braden.

Some of the quotes that made me laugh but not for a good reason.

"It's the mop of brown hair, when we're younger we're looked at as spunky and cute. Once puberty hits, people think we're all pot-heads like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo."

"Odys was black; if you asked him to categorize his exact skin tone he'd say chocolate. If you chose to press him on what kind of chocolate he would respond with 'What kind do you like?'.

"Coop had a defeated look to him. He had come in full of piss and vinegar, but once he started speaking, he realized his father would understand he was running away from his problems like a coward."

HOLY CANNOLI!!!

This urban fantasy read delivers a captivating friends-to-lovers slow burn that will keep you guessing and is just as sweet as it is suspenseful. You'll be rooting for the MCs as their cute little love story subtly unfolds, filled with delightful banter and teasing that adds a genuine charm to their dynamic. But don't let the romance fool you. The MMC brings a lovely "touch her and die" vibe that hints at his possessiveness and his protective, dangerous nature. Beneath the surface, there's a subplot of horror packed with grisly gore alongside relentless action that keeps the pages turning. The author masterfully weaves in intricate lore about disgraced heavenly beings and the complex lives of mortals with extraordinary, hybrid lineages, creating a world both familiar and terrifyingly unique. Prepare for a ride where cosmic power meets gritty urban darkness, all wrapped up in a truly engaging character journey.

I was only able to make it through a few chapters before I couldn't continue. Thankfully, they were the freely available chapters so I didn't have to waste my money. The little that I did read was poorly written and the characters are deeply uninteresting, and that's without mentioning the clear fantasy fulfilment that this book serves for the author and his tomboy fetish. I can't find a single thing that would make this worth continuing, any 5 star reviews are false.

Such a suspenseful and slow burn but wow! The dynamic between Coop and Danny is so wonderful. The grandpa, Franklin, is really thought out and the love story chapter is so wonderful! I am looking forward to the next book!!

Yes, I'm reviewing my own book. In the process of editing the damn thing I had to re-read it like five times. So I figure I'm as harsh a critic as anyone else. And I still love the damn thing. I wrote this book, inspired by old pulp novels and Western Comics/graphic novels. As well as Japanese light novels and manga, k-dramas too.

I've read a lot of stories where the romance is just an afterthought and doesn't enrich the story. This book is predominantly a romance story about two young adults. The urban fantasy/horror elements only come in the last eighty pages. The rest of the series will focus much more on the fantasy elements, which is why I decided to devote so much of this book to building the relationship between the lead characters.

This book gets very dark, the thing is me practically baring my soul to the world. There is light as well, but if you have a weak stomach to graphic violence it might not be for you.
