Most Wanted

Rate this book
From a top YA author writing under an assumed name comes this thrilling and intensely erotic new fantasy romance series for adults only.

Bounty Hunter Ariel McQueen has just days to find and capture a lowlife vampire, claim her reward and pay off a debt. Being fifty percent demon herself (and one hundred percent kickass), she’s not sweating it.

What she doesn’t count on however is the mysterious millionaire demon slayer Jax Sayer killing her bounty and totally screwing up her life in the process.

Teaming up to hunt down a serial killing bloodsucker, the two born enemies find themselves fighting an army of demons, underworld mobsters and the ghosts of their own pasts. But nothing’s as dangerous or as deadly as the white hot desire that’s simmering between them.

Between love and slaying there’s a very fine line.

I picked this up because it's written by a prominent YA author (and one of my favourite YA authors, at that), and I've enjoyed reading it a lot!

We should keep in mind that Friel wrote this book in ten days - which makes this accomplishment all the more amazing.

Ariel is a kick-arse bounty hunter who owes money to a shady underworld money-lender, so when a strange man kills her target (a misguided attempt to protect her), she's pissed off. She's surprised when he asks her for help taking out a coven of vampires - after all, he's a Blade (a demon-slayer), and he should be more than capable of handling a few Suckers. What follows is a sexy adventure with plenty of blood and action, and a few raunchy sequences.

I really liked the story because I find most NA / erotica stories with supernatural elements don't take the time to explain the world to readers - everything is filler before the 'good-stuff' kicks in. Maybe I'm reading the wrong ones. I like that Friel has built a great world around her characters (in fact, it's the same story-world as one of her YA series), and enjoyed getting to explore it.

While the story isn't predictable, I was able to guess most things before they happened. I think this comes from having read a lot in the genre rather than because the author wasn't able to hide the twists well. In fact, I don't think the developments were meant to be surprises for readers. It's a quick, uncomplicated read that most will enjoy.

There are a few improvements that could be made - not surprising when you consider the short timescale this story was written in. It needs another round of editing - his was spelt as hic, some words were missing, that sort of thing - and it definitely could use more fleshing out. Although I found Ariel's character well rounded, I think the Jax could have been more developed. I have no real grasp of his character: what does he do when he's not hunting, how are his relationships with friends, etc. He's definitely sexy though!

Most Wanted is a page-turner. I'd gladly read many more books about Ariel and Jax, and their adventures taking down demons most people don't know about. Knowing that the author wrote this book as a way to keep writing while on a break, I hope she takes long breaks, and often, to keep giving us stories like this, especially the sequel that's hinted at called Most Desired.

I'm a huge fan of E.L. Friel's YA author alter ego (don't ask me to tell you who she is - I've been sworn to secrecy!) so as soon as I found out she had written an erotic romance I HAD to read it and I purchased a copy immediately. I already know that this author is an expert at writing hot boys and that definitely shines through in Most Wanted and Jax is the kind of hottie that most of us would happily add to our list of book boyfriends :o)

Ariel is a half demon bounty hunter who desperately needs to capture her latest vampire target so that she can pay off an outstanding debt. It should be easy money but when demon slayer Jax steps in to help he ends up killing her target. Ariel was supposed to bring in the vampire alive and now she's out of pocket and in a whole heap of trouble because of the money she owes to a loan shark. Determined to make it up to Ariel, Jax offers to help on her next job and the two of them suddenly find themselves up against a whole hoard of unusually strong vampires. Can they figure out how to take down their target in time for Ariel to collect the bounty?

Jax and Ariel are drawn to each other from the beginning and the heat between them is palpable. As a demon slayer and a half demon they should be natural enemies but spending time together forces them to question their beliefs and wonder if there could ever be a future between them. I loved the chemistry between them and we are treated to some fabulously hot sex scenes - this is definitely an adult book! - but I also really enjoyed the world building and seeing them fight alongside each other against the vampires.

Most Wanted is a fast paced story with a nice amount of action and plenty of smut. I have to be honest and say it could have really used another round of editing, there were quite a few typos and mistakes and I did reduce the rating a little because of that. I also felt that the romance moved a little too quickly and I'd have liked to see Ariel and Jax spending a bit more time together before they fell in love. However, I still really enjoyed the story and would love to continue reading about this couple so the next book will be an automatic purchase as soon as it's available.

'He had a body to die for. Well, not to die for, because no man was worth dying for'

This pretty much sums up the roller-coaster of action pack (and so very sexy) events that unfold through the book 'Most Wanted'.

I randomly picked up this book after I saw a great twitter recommendation and review from Shaheen (speculatef on Twitter). After a quick checklist: sexy demon slayer, powerful kickass heroine, vampires and lots of hot sexy promises, handsome half naked guy on the cover; I was sold on this book and used that handy evil 1-click-buying option for Kindle.

It's written from two POV's. We get acquainted with Ariel McQueen, a very strong minded skilled bounty hunter. She has a very tortured and complicated life. My heart both ached and cheered for her! Reading what's in her head was fun.

Then, we cozy up with mister I-am-noble-sexy-and-demon-hunter, Jax Slayer. A pretty much badass name. His POV is just so enjoyable! I was delighted with his prowess as a fighter (both wen facing a vampire and a fierce Ariel) and of course his sexy manoeuvres. Mhhh this book has a lot of pages devoted to very carefully describing each sexual encounter between these two, and let me tell you ...*soaking face in cold water* it was good!

This book was short, but delivered what it promised. I really look forward to read more adventures (and sexy-times) between these two.

I'll just finish off with this funny catchphrase that talks a lot about Ariel and her sense of humour: 'demons can sense you like catnip'.

Most Wanted just didn't hold my interest. It's not that there was anything about it that I particularly disliked; it's just that there was nothing about it that I particularly liked. I didn't find the storyline all that interesting. At about 25% I almost DNF but for some reason I had the idea in my head that it was going to get better. I liked the premise: kick ass 1/2 demon and 1/2 human female lead bounty hunter teaming up with a Blade (think Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 7 - born into it, but not only one in all the world) with a side cast of cool demons and vampires. It sounded right up my alley.

I really liked Ariel and I didn't dislike Jax - he just didn't do anything for me. There wasn't any chemistry between the 2 of them - at least I didn't feel it. I thought with Ariel being 1/2 demon and Jax being a demon hunter there might be some love/hate tension between them with a side of angst thrown in (ala Buffy and Spike) but...not so much. I pushed on through 65% until I came to the second REALLY long sex scene and I just had to skim. That took me to 80% and I skimmed from there - got the final plot points and ending.

The whole story just felt sort of lukewarm and lackluster to me.

I give this book a 4.5. I picked this book up not sure what to expect but I found that I really liked it. It was different than most paranormal books I read. The book was full of action and some really hot steamy moments that were very well written. I would have given it a 5 except there were some spelling errors and grammatical errors. The heroine Ariel was a strong female character I love that she was independent and strong willed, not a weak female at all. And Jax...well I would love an Alpha male like that! This book was a quick read but that's because I couldn't put it down! I can't wait to see what happens next in this book. I am looking forward to the next on in the series.

I'm not a sci go kind of person, but overall it's a romantic adventure story that leads to many different outcomes that you do not see the outcome coming
