I did not necessarily have high expectations for this audio novel, but it really impressed me. The pairing of the Third and Fourth Doctors on an adventure is an odd idea that hardly ever comes to mind. Throw in their respective Sarah Jane Smiths meeting each other, and you have a unique and compelling story. The interviews suggest that one Sarah Jane is from after The Time Warrior, and the other is from after The Android Invasion.

This is Big Finish’s Doctor Who Day 60th Anniversary release, and it’s clever that it features Omega, making this feel kinda like the 50th anniversary of The Three Doctors. Jon Culshaw does such an amazing job channeling Pertwee and Baker that it feels like they’re really there. While this would be a fun serial to watch, it’s also one that would not have been possible outside the scope of Big Finish, as it features their creations the Rocket Men and another villain I kind of thought they were finished using. Just so well done all around.

This was a lot of fun. It’s quite the convoluted story and with three (yes, THREE) enemies, it certainly needs the presence of Two Doctors (Three and Four, to be precise) and not one but two Sarah Jane Smiths. The mind races. The only problem is that I should have listened to this BEFORE the second season of Doctor Who on Disney+. So I’m in the middle of this with The Master, The Renegade (in this case The Six), and Omega, while Omega shows up in the big season finale. Oops. Oh well, it was still fun. My only real complaint is that it should really have been a full case audio-drama. Oh well, can’t have everything.
