Ryohgo Narita (成田 良悟, Narita Ryōgo) is a Japanese light novelist. He won the Gold Prize in the 9th Dengeki Novel Prize for Baccano!, which was made into a TV anime in 2007.[1] His series Durarara!! was also made into a TV anime, which began airing January 2010
There are two traits found in most of Narita's works: * Narita writes extremely fast, one volume a month if he wishes - with tons of spelling errors and missing words as a tradeoff. The editors like to leave them sometimes just for fun, though. * His work titles often have an exclamation mark at the end (i.e. Baccano!, Vamp!, Durarara!!, etc.).
This should have been the thrilling conclusion to the series according to Narita himself – but he left too many loose ends so it looks like Volume 12 will just be setting up for the final volume.
And it definitely feels like it’s setting up. Everything reached a climax near the end and we’re close to a lot of things happening but few things actually happen. We leave everyone on a cliffhanger right before they do the big thing that we’ve been waiting for them to do for the entire series.
As you can imagine that doesn’t make for a very satisfying book – but it does make you want to dive right into the next one. So while this book feels like a bridge between Volume 11 and Volume 13…at least it makes you want to read the next volume. That’s perhaps its only value as a volume of the series.
I liked seeing more of Kida and Saki, especially seeing what sort of person Saki truly is. We got more of Anri and Saika which I think is sort of the least interesting and also messiest plot thread. Celty and Shinra weren’t really in this book and Izaya barely made an appearance until the finale.
I’m sad the chatroom has essentially been removed from the plot, barely turning up in this book. We also only got around four illustrations which seems like far fewer than usual. I hope that Volume 13 will be the conclusion all the readers were hoping for and use all the things that make Durarara!! Durarara!! to the best of its abilities.
Anyways I’m excited for the final book and I’m glad it will be the last time I have to read those copy-pasted paragraphs about Celty being a dullahan like I didn’t understand that at some point in the past twelve volumes already.
The final showdown between the immortal couple of this series-Shizu-Iza-has struck the pages. The city coverd in darkness and seethes of inhuman wrath, what would become of it? Can't wait till the finishing book hits the shelf.
More build up! The next volume will end the story, but this volume includes quite a few “wow didn’t see that coming” moments. I have high expectations for volume 13! The only reason it lost a star was that it didn’t conclude any of the plot points... in fact it opened quite a few more!
