I don’t know if you can really call this a love story. It sometimes felt like a dramedy of errors. It would probably be best to call it a “sex story”. The “love” part, if you can call it that, came about when Josie and Beau were teenagers. We, the readers, don’t get to see how their feelings for each other developed as they grew up, and the key moments in that time of their lives are only briefly touched upon, not providing enough substance.

Most of “His One and Only” happens in the present and, even though both Josie and Beau have some heavy-duty baggage, we’re supposed to believe that a week is enough time to settle their differences, overcome their personal fears, and rekindle deeply buried emotions, after 15 years of some dramatically eventful lives.

Beau is a former quarterback that has led a life of self-indulgence fueled by fame and fortune. He now has to create a new identity for himself because he will no longer be able to play football. Add to that an emotionally distant mother, a narcissistic dead father, and a teenage love that treated him like a plague, and you have a man with so much pain and anger that he could probably have been more of a jerk than he was in the book.

Josie rejected Beau in High School because her mother would have been crushed, thinking that her daughter was making the same mistake she made as a young girl, if Josie had acknowledged her feelings for Beau and acted on them. Josie never explained this to Beau hurting him in the process and making him lash out at her in public.

Josie ended up marrying a man that was an abuser and her marriage to him had a very tragic ending. The ending is such that all the difficulties she’s going through are entirely believable. What is unbelievable is to sustain the amount of emotional abuse she gets from Beau after the physical, emotional, and psychological abuse she endured for so many years with her husband.

The idea of two emotionally starved people such as Beau and Josie healing through love is a great one. Unfortunately, their emotional and psychological healing isn’t really explored in this novel. However much they enjoy their time between the sheets, the issues Beau and Josie are dealing with can’t really be resolved with a week of non-stop sex.

I wish Ms. Taylor had not given Beau and Josie such huge personal problems to conquer, because the character development required to work them out is greater than the one allowed by a 200 page novel.

Beau’s blindness gives the love scenes a bit of a twist as does the fact that both Beau and Josie seem to be sleeping together out of insecurity. Beau’s because he doesn’t think Josie would be with him any other way and Josie because she thinks she’s being paid to “scratch an itch”. The emotional bonding that’s supposed to be taking place between Josie and Beau and increasing the intimacy of their relationship isn’t credible because of this, and that makes the scenes, regardless of their graphicness and heat, rather bland.

Josie and Beau grew up together in the same house but worlds apart. Beau was the only son a rich steel magnet, while Josie was the daughter of the housekeeper that looked after them both. Their class differences became more apparent as the aged and created a rift that severed their friendship.

Theodora, always writes a good book but sometimes her previous works interferes. I can't penalize her because another of her books still has it's hooks in me. Even though it's not my favorite, still pretty darn good. Give this a try if you like interracial romance. You should start with another in this series ( Her Russian Billionaire (50 Loving States #2) by Theodora Taylor .

It is now 1 am, and after having spent the last 3 hours reading & being captivated by this well crafted piece of IRR fiction, I have to say that I am well pleased with this book. Although it had a few quirks, this book was Awesome!!!! The characters & storyline were well developed, and the naughty scenes were not so
heavy that it would make you automatically roll your eyes.
Ms. Taylor has impressed me so, to the point where I will strongly consider buying her future ebooks, on the spot. She's just that good....

Giving this book, 4 well-deserved stars...

Theodora Taylor is a genius writer. From the name of the characters Josie (sounds so cute) and Beau ( just makes me think of a big country boy) to the description of the characters. Beau sounded like a raven haired Clay Mathews, yummy! Even to how engaging these characters were, the fact that the antagonist in the story are rascism and the characters own fear and anxiety stemming from their past.

My only knock on this book is that many of the story lines are a bit formulaic. A very rich white man from the heroine's past comes back in to her life and puts her in a no way out unless you sex me up situation. Hey, I love this sex (there wasn't that much in this book), but I want to read more characters like Her viking Wolf; the characters were very interesting and the formula wasn't as noticeable.

However, no matter who and what characters she writes, Mrs. Taylor always works in the psychology of her characters their actions explained and their motives relatable; she is a good sound writer who I am a HUGE fan of! Seriously who of us hasn't let our past convince us wrong? Who hasn't played the fool for love?

Josie and Beau were star crossed lovers. When they finally got together, I felt bad in how Beau was treating Josie because he loved her, but he was a complete jerk because he thought that he wasn't good enough for her because of his new found disability. Josie lost a part of herself when she got married to her ex-husband but coming back to Alabama brought back the passion to her that she had been missing. I can't continue w/o giving too much away, but it was a good read.

This book was heartfelt. I liked the fact that the H and h grew up together. There is nothing like a friends to lovers story. I loved Josie's spunk and her cat-eye glasses. I just wish Beau, with his FINE ASS, could have been a little nicer to Josie. Especially, once he found out about Wayne and all the abuse. ;-)

Abuse is abuse is abuse.

I am so mad at Josie, even more so at Beau.

That was rape no matter how much it was gussied up.

And by the end, Beau still proved how much of an abuser he was.

You don't have to hit to hurt someone.

I might come back to review this properly, but right now...

I really enjoyed this story and can't wait for the next. Beau was a spoiled brat who finally figured how to get what he wanted the most Josie.

Nothing especially stood out to me. Beau seemed like an emotionally stunted ass and Josie like a people-pleasing pushover until the last few chapters. There didn't seem to be any kind of emotional bond between them as adults.

The only intriguing part was the flashbacks to their teenage lives, which are few and far in between.

His One and Only

Omg! Wow. Talk about a roller coaster. And talk about an arrogant unlikable jerk.
First off, I loved Josie. She overcame such a heartbreak to return to her hometown, helping at the shelter with her friend Sam. Then dealing with that brute Beau. I did not like him. He was so mean and degrading to her, when all she was trying to do was help him. His blindness made him so bitter and hateful. I applauded Josie when she rightly threw pasta at him because he was being so nasty. I had a hard time believing he loved her, because he had a poor way of showing it. I didn’t feel any romance with them, more like unresolved high school issues. His paying her to sleep with him didn’t sit right with me. I’m going to have to reread this one again to get a better understanding of why he was such an ass. I wanted so much to like him. I actually liked Colin, and would have been happy if Josie went with him, but she always would love Beau. I have a feeling I know who the woman is but I won’t divulge. I’m glad he gets his own story.
I loved the story but I gave it three stars because again there were too many editing/grammar errors. It’s a pet peeve of mine. And grammar errors takes the joy out of reading the story.

I was so excited to see a new book in this series and I was not disappointed. I love the stories Theodora weaves and I am a fan of the 50 states series. I wish that the heroine's back story with her dad and ex husband and the volunteer work she did were fleshed out a lot more as Josie was really smart and interesting and a lot more likeable than Beau. Beau was an ass, which Josie called him and thought quite frequently, but had his back story with an unaffectionate, frivolous, slightly alcoholic, indifferent mother and imperious, overbearing dad with high expectations, who was all about power; we may have seen what Josie saw so much earlier. I kept wanting to punch him and I think when Josie's story is revealed it was too easily dismissed and the message and feelings explored in the story were so important and great to see in a romance novel. I just think because of her story she would not have jumped back into Beau's arms so easily and she would not have a friend tell him her story if she thought they had a sex only relationship-their past was too unsteady for that. Nonetheless-I liked the surprises near the end and will read the book again. Thank you for adding to my collection.

Josie really had it rough in this one. I was hoping for her and Colin to live the happily ever after seeing how into her he was. It was kind of a disappointment to see how far she'd fallen. The mess with her ex was just crazy though. I was surprised that she'd actually met someone else. Beau seemed like a total ass but his parents were much worse. The mother was a fool and Josie should've stood up to her better seeing she had them both in her palm more then they had her. Good read but I really wanted to see just what happened with them after they were together. It would be nice to see him get better and them have to deal with some issues outside of their bubble. Let's see what happens in the next one though.

I liked the book. The plot was great. I didn’t like Beau’s “attempt sexual assaultive” ways. 2 times in this book where I read that I thought Beau was going to rape Josie. She left an abusive husband to go into the arms of another abusive jerk.

But towards the end of the book, I was rooting for Beau to get his sight back. I really liked the lead female character in this book too.

What a true bastard. Hero was a real turn off. He was just as much an abuser as the ex. And guess what buddy, you saying you love her is not enough, because all abusers say the same, and they all claim to be the exception that really means it.

A good backstory but I did not care for the way that Josie was demeaned by Beau. I did like that he suffered doe to his own ego.

His one and only is a story between Beau and Josie, and I was curious to find out what happen between these two since I saw it was mention in His To Keep. Which is about Collin Fairgood and Kyra. Yes, I know I read the book backwards, so you get a taste of Collins in this book. But you have no idea who Kyra is because she is not mention in this book at all.

Well Collins and Josie are best friends, and what they’re called by Beau the nerds. Beau haven’t always been mean to Josie he has always been nice to her, and even develop a huge crush for her, up until his father told him she wasn’t for her. But even still he’s always like her… And well so has Collins since he wants more than just to be best friends.

Josie loves Collins but just as a best friend, who she really likes is Beau, even though he’s a big jerk. One night her mother, who is the cleaners for Beau household catches the two together. She warns Josie that a boy like Beau is not for her, and that he will leave her in the dust.

Josie listens to her mother at first but still wants to be with Beau until he makes a complete fool of her and Collins and announces to everyone in the hall that he had sex with her. Just to piss Collins off and to get back at Josie for her rejection of him. Well that doesn’t help his case really, it just made things worse.

Years later Josie gets a call from his mother that Beau needs her help more than ever, he is blind and needs help to get around and etc. Josie takes the job, knowing that her Woman abuse shelter she works with, along with Sam really needs help, esp. the financial help.

But what she didn’t expect to count on was a rude and ignorant Beau.

Beau is so rude and messed up, I had a hard time reading this book since I felt like he should deserve her. Even though In Collins book I was routing for him, but if this how he lost her in the first place then he doesn’t deserve her. And it doesn’t make it better that Colin was nick picking at him with his career and how he won’t be able to gain his site back.

But the turnaround for these two is remarkable, and I actually begin to enjoy this book.

RATING: 2.25 stars. (BW/WM). $4.99 Kindle Edition 201 page e-book.
SETTING: Contemporary times. Birmingham Alabama.
TROPE: Angry romantic crushes. Sudden Blindness. Fifteen year separation. Second chance.
MAIN CHARACTERS:
1. Beau Prescott, male lead, is a 33-year-old wealthy quarterback gone blind from a concussion during a pro football game.
2. Josie Witherspoon, 32-year-old female lead, is a widow who has survived a physically and mentally abusive husband and is assisting in a shelter for battered women.
3. Wayne Simmons is Josie's deceased abusive husband.
4. Loretta Witherspoon is Josie's deceased mother and Prescott former housekeeper.
5. Kitty Prescott is Beau's self indulgent society focused mother.
6. Mac, a former football star, is Beau's driver, personal trainer helping Beau acquisition to blindness.
7. Sam McKinley is Josie's friend and the founder of Ruth's House, the battered women's shelter.
8. Colin Fairgood is a childhood friend of Josie and Beau's childhood nemesis.

This story is written with two different titles and page counts: His One and Only having 220 pages and Her Ruthless Bully having 201 pages. The stories are written from the perspectives of Beau and Josie and fluctuates from the present to the past. Both protagonists are likable characters; however is is difficult to accept that 30-year-olds who have been carrying a torch for over 15 years would hot be able to better communicate their feelings. Understanding that each is overcoming recent trauma and is returning to the hometown they never wanted to see again...Josie is a semester shy of completing her college degree and can't find a decent job, Beau is wealthy but coping with sudden blindness and neither of this has family present. In my opinion, the story would have been more appealing if Josie and Beau had more meaningful dialogue and had slowly gravitated toward each other minus so many tantrums and hurt feelings and unnecessary meanness. The Colin interlude and empty posturing as love interest for Josie was a total waste of time and did nothing to move the story along.

It’s a no for me.

Ok so I didn’t compete the book. Stopped at the end of chapter four. Sorry here comes some spoilers. And reasons why I couldn’t continue.

His heart break from her is when he goes to confess his love and she says (after they’ve been caught by her mother) that it was a mistake he was a mistake, then days later when he try’s to talk to her, because he wants to officially be with her, staring “I’ll talk to your mother with you”, she tells him further no, your not worth it. But she still holds a flame for him, still undeniably in love with him.

All along her mother is ignoring her and refusing to speak to her until she tells her mother he embarrassed her at school (after the weekend he tries to talk to her and just before she has to the chance to explain things to him) and that’s when her mother is happy. As if saying see I told you so was her ultimate goal.

Her mother accepts her being with an abusive, controlling man who prefers she keeps her hair permed so not to look to ghetto, simply because he’s black. All because she herself fell for an Italian rich guy and couldn’t see past getting her own heart broken. She holds onto that memory so much she doesn’t approve of Josie’s friendship with Colin another white guy even though his own mother is a caretaker for a rich family. And treats her daughter with respect.

I began this book because it was a suggestion. I’ve never read this author before maybe I’ll try a different book. Sometimes you just pick the wrong one. But I don’t how much bullying was done between them, if he’s an alpha-hole (alpha a**hole) or just an a**sshole. Sorry if I ruined anything for you. But it was only the first 4 chapters or 21% read.

This story was intriguing to me.This story was about how you treating those in your past, that is how people will treat you in future.

Josie came back home because of unforeseen circumstances. With no money, she excepted a maid job at the home of her childhood friend then later nemesis, Beau Prescott. He home due to a football injury that caused him to be blind. Coming home angry, he took his frustrations out on Josie. Disrespecting her many times. She was at her rope and quiet. A old friend of Josie (Colin) came back and wanted a relationship because he knew how Beau thought he was better than both of them when they were kids. After months of getting his self together, Beau realized how badly he treated Josie and others in his life, therefore, worked to get his self together.

I wanted to like this book, I was intrigued by the blurb and was hopeful but sadly I was beyond disappointed.

The concept was good but there was just some much to try to get through in a book that was less than 200 pages long. There was never really a romance or love story.l, just people with physical and emotional drama and a screwed up past.

Beyond the issues with the story, I struggled with the writing. The word choices of “kit kat,” “big finger’” and “thing” during the intimate scenes were cringeworthy. The attic scene was SA. There was no reason to turn Colin into a villain, Beau was enough of one.

Add in some grammatical errors and timeline inconsistencies and I think the only reason I finished it was because it was short and I was too lazy to find a different book.

Beau and Josie

Although this is my second time reading this book it's still as great as the first time I read it. Beau and Josie was practically raised together being Josie's mom worked for Beau's family and took care of both of them. They have always been in love but because Beau can be an arrogant ass at times rejection my him try to humiliate her in school and when she had no other choice as an adult but to work for him. The last time he tried to humiliate her because of his ego, he almost lost her for good. Glad he came to his senses.💟💟
