Even in M/F romances I'm annoyed by the use of "the male".

This book doesn't contain a single female character.

Yet every single character is either "the male" or "a male". All the time.

I've spoilered this example, but it comes at 17% of the story and doesn't give much away.

I waited not so patiently for Petar and all I can say is I was not disappointed! Ms. Wells delivered a fantastic finish to an awesome series. I thought I would hate Zaa'er but was totally wrong. This tale goes to show that there is more to people than what you see on the surface and bad things that happen to you don't define the person you are. Thank you for Matik brothers and the men that love them.

Well it’s here, the long awaited Petar by JC Wells, the last of the Matik Masters and the one brother that I have been dying to read about. I have taken a couple days to write this because I was at a loss for words. At the end of Sorth we leave Petar in the hands of a brutal pack master of an enemy pack. Petar agreed to let himself be mated to Zaa’er of the Novek pack, the harshest wolf many have ever encountered, to keep the two packs from going to war. In his mind he doesn’t deserve anything more. Petar’s book starts out so dark and violent it had me gasping and reading faster and faster hoping it was a dream or something, but no, it was what Petar was really being faced with. Zaa’er has no qualms about putting Petar in his place, shaming him, abusing him, and letting him know just how much he could care less about any feelings Petar has. One single event changes everything and Zaa’er suddenly is faced with feelings that he’s never been shown and certainly never given to another. This brutal wolf just may be exactly what Petar needs to pull himself out of the darkness that’s ruled his life for far too long.
This book, this entire series very well may be the best I’ve read this year. The books are short, but I haven’t been so emotionally taxed by a series in a long time. Each book, especially Petar, left me feeling like I had just read an epic novel, not a 50 page short. JC Wells’ talent is far reaching and I hope she will step into the world of full length novels because if this series is any indication of what she has to offer she will take the reading world by storm and not look back. I simply can’t say enough about not only this book, but the entire Matik Masters series. I’m sad to say that Petar is the last of the series and she won’t be adding more to it BUT, (yes that’s a big but) she will be writing a spin off series of the Novek pack! So for now I will sit back and regain my emotional balance and patiently wait for what JC Wells throws at me next. Bravo!

Last of the series, this story had the potential to be good, but got a bit muddled along the way. The author is giving us more story finally, but I didn’t like the flip flopping of Zaa’er’s personality-at the start he was a tough alpha but the resolution of the story was to soften him up until he was not attractive to me anymore. Petar had issues, trust ones especially after being raped when he was young, so the rough treatment he endures at Zaa’ers hands are what he feels he is due, that he doesn’t deserve to be treated any better. Zaa’er lives under his fathers thumb, for all he’s such a cruel leader, turns out he’s nothing but a tool. He finally decides to stand up to his father when he’s told to banish Petar, even though we don’t see any evidence that he even cares for Petar. Confusing and not very cohesive, the story begins to unravel about half way through. Again, I liked reading the HEAs of the other couple, especially Enrick and Kai, so I enjoyed it for that if nothing else.

I hope this author continues in this world she’s created but fleshes out her stories a bit more. Lots of potential here for some good stuff!

I so eagerly wanted to read this. The world of the Matik masters is harsh and can be unforgiving. Loved the two guys here - and it started off with a bang (pun intended!) and didn't really let up. Could have used more length because, frankly, I want full size novels in this world because I'm just that intrigued. No sugar coating the situations either - war is war. Things are done. Gritty - and I really liked it!

My favourite of the series, by far! The plot was more elaborately explored, I'd come to know Petar quite well and looked forward to his story, and Zaa'ar was a pleasant surprise.
Loved it!
