Holy Shit!!!! This book is so amazing!!!! Starting at the beginning with Bedrock it’s got love, mystery, sex, action packed! and just…...feelings. It’s feeling lonely & lost. Feeling lust & passion. Feeling sad & defeated. Aah-Mazing!
Bedrock opens in a horrible scene where Addison is fighting for her life. We quickly go back in time to her college days and we meet her BFF, Jess and get introduced to her would-be husband, Patrick. She is also trying to overcome her childhood. Addison’s parents died in a car accident and she was delivered right before her mom died. Her grandparents raised her and they really didn’t want to be bothered. Neglect is the main description of her childhood.
She meets Patrick and without much thought they both just sorta become boyfriend/girlfriend without any verbal commitment. It’s just assumed. That is until she goes to his parents for a week. They (his mom) hates her. Addison isn’t good enough for her son and makes it known to everyone and pushes Addison so that she leaves early. It didn’t work, Patrick loves Addison and he marries her, giving Addison her fairytale wedding. Everything is going great until their first child, Conner, is born and the care for him and working overwhlems Addison. She’s exhausted, her husband wants her to quit which Addison definately doesn’t want to do, her now mother-in-law constantly makes her feel that she’s not a good enough wife or mother and she feels like a failure. Ultimately, Patrick wins and she quits. As Conner gets older he becomes easier and she begins thinking of going back to work. Then baby number 2 comes along in a BIG surprise. Addison thinks it’s going to be the same and her dream of going back to work crumbles.
Finally, the kids are old enough to be managed and allow Addison to work. She has a job interview that she doesn’t tell Patrick about. No sense it rocking the boat till she knows for sure. She’s in the elevator with another man, William Hartman, amazing looking, beautiful even, on her way to her interview and the elevator breaks down. Addison is drawn to this man like nothing she’s ever experienced before. This is the best example of “Love at First Sight” that I’ve ever encountered. Addison makes a mistake and this mistake will be the turning point in her life. However, Patrick is also fixing to make a mistake, he’s been offered a position in China for a year. He’s basically made his mind up to take it and is informing Addison of it when she blurts out her new job news. Neither news is taken well. This day - an interview and an elevator, a new job and another country, will seemingly change the course of their entire lives.
Meanwhile, William can’t get Addison out of his mind. She doesn’t know exactly who he is, CEO mega-millionaire, and he has a feeling that even if she did she wouldn’t act any differently towards him. William has a terrible childhood too and in many ways they have lived similar lives. They both have no idea what love is, to feel it or receive it. Having been abused mentally & physically his entire childhood…..well let’s just say he has his own issues too.
Addison, being faced with her husband leaving for a year, taking on the role of single mother and starting a new job, can’t get William out of her mind. He’s sent flowers, txt, calls, and emails. He’s tried to get hold of her any way he can but she can’t go there. She just can’t. William is someone that would consume her and she knows she would be in real trouble and risk falling for him if given half a chance.
They spend a weekend on a semi-vacay (William is technically there for business) and they fall in love. Major deep down, soul shattering, I really can’t live without you love.
Excerpt: Just then, Addie looked up, caught his eye, and winked at him. He smiled unable to take his eyes off of her, unable to focus on anything but how beautiful she was. And for the first time in his life, William Hartman understood what it felt like to be in love. She also meets Scott Hammons that weekend and that too will completely, not only change her life again, but may also lead to her death. Scott has built a company, created a family with his wife, has friends and business associates that respect him and William Hartman is taking it all away. Well, at least that how Scott see's it. He’s a mad-man! No question…..he’s got serious issues!
Book one ends with Addison back with her husband pretty much pretending and her heart broken because she’s not with William.
The first two chapters were a little slow but once I got to the end of the second chapter, I couldn't stop reading. I was able to finish the entire book in one night! I had it in my head that it was going to be so much like 50 Shades, that I was so surprised at the twists. There are similarities, but there is also so much more than a young girl being introduced into the world of BDSM. Just as you think you know what is going to happen next, Britney surprises you with a drastic twist, making you want to read more.
Bedrock has everything a good book should have; sex, family, suspense and romance.
I received this book from Roses Book Snobs for an honest review.
This was by far one of THE BEST books I have read in a long time. I was riveted by the first chapter. A typical house wife, Addison wishes she had continued with her career and not stayed at home with her 3 boys. Although she is desperately in love with them, she feels like their is a part of her that is missing. Her husband is involved with his career that he does not notice that she is a different person to the one he married. Not accepted by his family and struggling to find a way to make herself feel like a woman again, Addison applies for a job...
A chance encounter with William changes everything... But I don't want to give too much away...
I just LOVED LOVED LOVED this book.. So much so that I read it in one day, along with the second book "Breaking Bad"..
Britney King has pulled out all the stops and has in turn written what I believe should be a best seller!!
(You can enter to win it on my blog linked below on 10/25/2013)
Addison has been second best her entire life. Well, SHE has always been a total catch, but she was always treated like a second-class citizen. When her mother died, her grandparents only took her because she reminded them of their daughter. How shitty is that? Grandparents were MADE to cuddle and comfort you – I suppose they didn’t get that memo.
In college, Addison finally finds someone to love her. He is a real catch… Smart. Handsome. Wealthy. Comes from a good family who loves him. It only takes a hot second to realize that his family sucks just like so many others Addie has encountered in her life. She knows they feel she isn’t good enough for their precious son and he pretty much admits as much to Addie – I just want to slap the hell out of him for treating her like that and for not standing up for her.
Although I was screaming at her not to do it, she follows her heart and marries the fool. Although she is probably the happiest she has ever been in her life – married with three kids – she has not truly found happiness… She just doesn’t know it yet.
When her husband is shipped off to China for work, Addison decides to enter the workforce and that is when the story really begins! Her world is rocked, her marriage is rocked and dare I say her bed is rocked. More details than that is bound to ruin the story for you, so we will just leave it at that.
I thought author, Britney King did a great job with this debut novel, BEDROCK. I was a bit shocked by the abrupt ending and I immediately went scurrying around to see if there was a second book coming out. Thank goodness there is because that ending left a lot of unanswered questions, but I suppose in some really fucked up universe that could have been the end of the story – I would NOT have been a happy camper if that were the case. The second installment, BREAKING BEDROCK is due out sometime in December and I’m really looking forward to getting my bed rocked all over again!

I make no secret about how much I dislike writing bad reviews. It makes me feel awkward and bad because…I almost want to blame myself. I’m weird…I know. There’s nothing can be helped though…I don’t think I am too critical a reader, but I do have certain expectations and ‘reading needs’, if you will.
I can’t lie, I didn’t get very far into Bedrock before I knew it wasn’t working for me, and it took me another chapter or two before it really clicked as to why I wasn’t connecting. I am an emotional reader…and that’s what was lacking for me. I was being given the facts of what was happening and no emotions to tie me to the events. Obviously what was being told was scary, emotional, confusing, etc…but I just had more questions and was trying to understand what was going on because I wasn’t connected to the main character. That's not to say that the way things were being described wasn't done well...but anyone can tell me something that's going on - if I'm not engaged and don't care about what's happening...then it's pointless for me.
The way it was told was interesting too…the events were being narrated but every now and then I was told what the heroine (Addie)/hero were thinking/feeling – very rarely though. That threw me the first time because…if it’s going to be done…it needs to be done consistently, not sporadically…and I can’t help but think it was a little too convenient. I think the narration was also what threw me off…it might have worked better if we were in Addie’s POV, I would have been able to connect more to the events than just being told.
I hate that I won’t get to read and understand what happened and how the book unfolds because the plot line really did intrigue me. The first few chapters are gripping but the confusion and frustration over took me.
Bedrock is captivating and interesting. As a book it tells a number of stories from the lives of the characters which gives a feeling of depth. At its heart, though, this is a story about choices and the opportunities that life throws up. There is love, betrayal, intriguing personalities and lovely scene setting. This is a book with plenty of adult themes and while not graphic in detail it is not shy about its content. There is also something just beyond real about this book, somehow just too much neatness comes out of the chaos at times.
Bedrock hits a fine balance and I found this book to be very entertaining and gripping and once started I found it difficult to stop reading, to read what was to happen next. This is an excellent debut and surely Britney King has a juggler’s skill.
Bedrock is an absolute jewel of a story. The adrenaline is still pumping and my thoughts swirling!
This was a story that just grabbed you at chapter 1 and if you survive it, you are on your way to an amazing read.
Intelligently written story of choices and the consequences of those choices. All choices have consequences, some good, some bad.
Bedrock is a roller coaster of emotions. Lot's of twists and turns. Every chapter a page turner. Every page a WOW factor.
Addison has her life very carefully planned out. She wants a loving husband, children, and a happy life. Coming from a home life less than stellar, she is very goal oriented in what she perceives to be her dreams.
Choices.
Addison meets Patrick in college. He is everything she wants in a partner and they immediately hit it off. Patrick is also very focused on what he wants as life goals.
Choices.
They are blissful. The relationship has many ups and downs all very realistically written, leading them to marriage. All is happy and life goals achieved, or are they?
Nothing in life is perfect and Addie soon discovers she is not as happy as she had hoped to be. With the birth of her first baby who is colicky, Patrick's dominating personality in wanting Addie to be a stay a home wife and mother, dissatisfaction in herself and loss of career, Addie becomes very disillusioned. Not what she thought her life would be.
Patrick on the other hand is very happy. Career is going well, Addie is home raising the children, ideal life in his minds eye, or is it? We shall soon discover, not so much on his part either.
But they do love each other, you definitely get a feel for the chemistry these two have. They want things to work and they want to be happy.
Addie decides to look for a job, quietly.
Enter William. A handsome and powerful man she meets after getting stuck in an elevator. And something very surprising happens while stuck in that elevator. It is at this point the story really takes off.
Choices.
There are so many choices for all three of them. All leading to a very climatic and surprising ending in the story and with even more choices. A bit of a cliffie ending but no worries. I checked with the author and she is writing the follow up as we speak to be released in October. I personally have not had my fill of Addie, Patrick, and William.
Bedrock is not an easy story to review. There were so many levels in the story happening, though seamlessly and well written out that it would be very easy to give away spoilers. I definitely don't want to do that. I want you to read it and tell me how much you love it too!
Very powerfully written and engaging. You will be very drawn in and very pleased with this gem of a story.
This is about Addison Greyer who is married with 3 kids. She is bored and doesn't want to be a stay at home mom. Her husband suddenly says he has to work in China for a year and leaves her alone with the kids. She gets stuck in an elevator on the way to an interview and has sex with the handsome guy in the elevator. She accepts the job and starts a love affair with the stranger who turns out to be a billionaire. Several major things happen in this book. I think Britney is a good writer but I found there wasn't too much depth to the characters and the book was really short so you didn't get invested in the characters like I like to get invested. I like to hang onto characters after I'm done with a book and I didn't have that connection. It was fast paced but I felt there wasn't too much substance to support the storyline. It was entertaining and a good quick beach read.
I read this one because I won book 2 and as I started reading it I realized I needed some background as to why things were happening.
Bedrock is a gem of a book. You look at the cover and you think okay what is this book about because the cover is plain. I have to say that sometimes I do judge a book by the cover and if you do for this one you are going to miss out on the best book ever for 2013. I have a few and this one is on my top 10 list because right from the first page I was hooked and I could not get enough as a matter of fact I needed more.
Can you imagine you are in a marriage you have children and you are in love with your husband. Things are going great until your husband tells you he is taking a job thousand of miles away. At first you are stunned because how can he be so selfish to only think about himself and no one else let alone his children and his wife. But that is okay because as a mother you put your big panties on and you do what you have to do for your family.
Then your boss offers you a job offer you can't refuse. You say yes but what happens after you say yes is scary because your past is about to collide with your future. Everything you worked so hard to hide and keep in check is about to burst open like some crazy ass flood gates and there is no looking back only looking forward. Do you regret the choices you made or make? How do you move on when you have so much guilt? This book has some surprises in it that will have you screaming. If you are a fan of erotica books like 50 Shades of Grey then this is the book for you. Surprise surprise is what awaits you in this little gem of a book!
First things that come to mind while describing this book is Love Square meets Fifty Shades. Ohmygod, this book - I absolutely could not put it down. And because it was "un-put-downable", I have to have to give it a 5 star rating. I thought it was amazing with all the twists and turns and I needed to know what the heck was going to happen next! When I came to the end, I was like whaaaaattttt???? Noooooo!!!! And then I learned there's a part 2. Whew... I seriously almost had a nervous breakdown because I just couldn't have taken it if the book just ended the way it did. I am anxiously awaiting for the second book. Seriously, it's all I'm looking forward to!!! Read this book people, it's sooo good!!!
This was a Goodreads win that I read in a couple of days. It's my understanding that it's the author's first book. I thought she did a great job. The story had excitement holding my attention throughout. Amazing that she was able to gather all her thought and put them on paper being a mother of 5. The ending left me hanging which made me think she was possibly considering a sequel. If that be the case I'd want to read it as well.
My Rant: Bedrock completely rocked me. In the beginning of the book you don’t get to ease your way into the plot the author begins the book with an explosion of action and your left wondering how the hell did Addison get her self into this position and what in the world is going on. You open the book and the author is pulling at your emotions with a simple hook that doesn’t seem to relent, you begin to get dragged into the story and at this point there is not turning back because you are committed.
The author takes you this erotic journey by taking you back into time. During this journey you begin to build a connection with Addison. You feel for her because of how she had to walk through life (sniffle). I wont say that her life was that bad but it wasn’t good either. Sometimes the verbal or emotional abuse hurts more than actual blows. The author lays Addison bare to you. Addison is smart, caring and has her life all planned out because she is focused. So when she meets Patrick you can see why he was smitten with her.
I have to admit Patrick was dreamy but the things he did to Addison at the beginning of their relationship made me want to punch straight in the head, I mean the one where the real brain is laying around, LOL. Patrick and Addison seem to be the perfect pair. She when they come together there is an erotic explosion that is so undeniable that you get caught up in the world wind of it and all I can say at this point is that you need to sit back and enjoy the ride.
I began to feel like this was a dream come true until the ish began to hit the fan in this story. I am completely torn… completely. There are so many twist in the story I cant tell which one I want to follow the most because they are all at the extreme level. There are all kinds of emotions being displayed in this book. What I really enjoyed about it is that it wasn’t just from the main characters. Some how the author gave voice to them all and it was a refreshing feeling, because you connect with these characters. You get to see their private most hidden feelings and I loved every moment of it.
When William steps on the scene you begin to question Addison actions, you even begin to think that maybe just maybe Patrick is not the right guy to be with Addison but there that tugging again that tells you that you cant get rid of him so easily because he has made his way into your heart
I love the authors writing style and characters because she completely keeps your attention on the characters and there feelings. It was so hard to put this book down completely. I was emotional, engaged, intrigued and submitting to the unthinkable at the authors will.
My Recommendation:
I was rocked by this story and rated it 4 out of 5 purple rant hearts. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves a good erotica story with one tornado blaring twist.

This book was well written. It grabbed your attention from the beginning and didn’t let you go. Once I started reading it I was wondering what the hell was going on with her being beat like she was. I mean anyone that was going through that kind of pain would go into the recesses of their own mind to find comfort that she needed. When it flashed back and we find out more about Addie we find out that she is a woman that has a ton of love to give and is independent on herself. Anyone that went through the stuff she did when she was growing up and wasn’t messed up in the head I say turned out pretty dang good. Then when she falls in love with her husband I was thinking to myself that she should have turned tail and ran away cause of having a monster-in-law like she was going to have. No one deserves to be treated the way that witch treated her. And having three boys you know that is a handful of stress and drama. But wait, let’s add more into there with your husband, Patrick, having to go on a business trip to China and leaving you to care for your family. Yea I would say that is stressful. But when you decide to go back to work after being out for so long and you meet a sex God on the elevator and get stuck in there your first day, I would have to say I would just went back home. But not Addie she just keeps pushing forward with what she wanted. That kind of woman is something special because most people would have just curled up in a ball and cried. But no she got her job, exceeded her own expectations with the job, and fell in love with William, the Sex God from the elevator. Now that she has all this crazy stuff going on with her you would think that there will be a little bit of relief for her. Hell no lets add more in. Her boss wants her to do a side job at Seven which turns out to be a BDSM place. Sondra wants her to become a Mistress. I literary had to pick my jaw up off the floor. I did not see that coming. But the skills that she learns from work and at Seven help her become a stronger individual and a better person in my eyes. Okay so now that you get a taste of the book its time that you go out and get this book because the second book is coming out quickly and you will want to read it as soon as you finish this one. This does end on a cliff hanger but don’t worry the next book is right around the corner. I give this book 4 ½ stars.
Addison, sexy wife and mother of three, decides to put her career back on the track getting no support from her husband and lashes from her mother-in-law. On the day of her interview she meets a new lover in a super sexy scene. Hubby shows his support by taking a 6 month overseas assignment and leaves her to deal with the home front. While getting used to her new life she picks up some side work as a Dominatrix...oh and she gets kidnapped and tortured herself. (Not a real spoiler as that is where the book starts).
As seatback through time we try and discern who is the kidnapper, the jilted alpha lover, the arrogant husband, a client or another.
It is a good solid thriller with some nice sexy storylines thrown in..
I had this book waiting for sometime in my tbr list and kept on passing it up. I was interested in it but just kept passing it over. Now I'm not sure if I'm happy I read it when I did. I can't believe I waited so long I LOVED this book! But now I'm stuck waiting until October 15th for book 2 and damn it I hate waiting when I get sucked into a story so deeply. Ugh now I won't be able to get the characters out of my head! At first the story felt slow and I was worried I wouldn't get into it, if you are starting it and feel this way in the beginning KEEP READING!!!! This book will not disappoint! I rarely give 5 stars but by the end of this book I was so hooked I'd give it 6 stars if I could!
Wow!!! I find it hard to believe this is Britney King's first novel. Bedrock is absolutely everything you want in a romance/mystery and more. I read almost the entire book in one sitting, until it got so late I couldn't keep my eyes open. This book is full of twists and turns and edge of your seat suspense. Intertwined in that is a great romance. So many books I've read lately are predictable. I never knew how this story was going to end, until the end. Then, I was left wanting more.
*I received this book free as a goodreads giveaway*
HOLY COW. I don't know where to start with this review. I read it for our blog and seriously thing so many people should read this book. it is highly highly highly suggested. There is a love story, and I am always a sucker for a love story. But what an emotional rollercoaster this one was. There was strength, love, loss, fear.. so many emotions this book evoked in me. Addison, is amazing. She breaks out of her shell and becomes this amazing woman. And william, well. STUD- i think that says it all. I want to tell you, you will have villians in this book. Not just one either. I had many. And don't even get me started on the end... Ms King- YOU'RE AMAZING! But... but... the end... sigh. Anyway, I think everyone should read this. Its balls to the wall, awesome.
I want to start by saying..no screaming.. WHAT TOOK ME SO LONG TO READ THIS BOOK?!?! This was seriously AMAZING! And also tell you how hard it is going to be to NOT give you any spoilers..so bear with me… This book had me flying by the seat of my pants. It was like everytime I thought I knew what Addison would do.. BAM! She surprised me. … HOLY MOLY! I couldn’t look away, I couldn’t put it down. I couldn’t stop reading. And I’m glad I didn’t. Every time I turned around there was a new twist. A new turn. A new DID THAT JUST HAPPEN!! I swear every character we met had ulterior motives. And you know what, I loved them all!!!! I even loved to hate some of them..okay most of them! But still!! Addison's character is so well developed, you immediately relate. A mom, a wife, a working woman. A woman who gets the offer of a lifetime for a job...twice. The normal one, and the risque one. A love of a lifetime...twice. I just wanted to scream at Addison so many times. Make your move lady!! I mean William, is… well, William. DARN HOT! And she is treated like crap by her husband, HELLO!! No choice, right?? IT'S NOT THAT EASY!!! MAKE YOUR CHOICE!! Like I said, so many times I was like someone slap this woman.. well, no, wait! After she starts her training.. Definitely don’t slap her then, she could probably beat all of us. And the drama… OH GOD! I promise it doesn’t stop. There were so many times when I was like .. WHAT!! DID SHE JUST..WITH HIM! DID HER HUSBAND JUST… NO! GAH!!! Don’t even let me get started on her mother in law. So many times I was like man she is a grrrrr . UGH! Then she has her interview with her “client” and all HECK breaks loose. So I was literally chewing on my finger nails. PLEASE FIND HER! WILLIAM FIND HER! God. Oh man.. then the hospital.. and the tears.. I was so sad. And then Christmas. I was all.. PLEASE NO! DON’T LET IT END HERE…..*sigh* AAAAAAAHHHMAZING.
Bedrock is a book about a woman and the choices she makes in her life. This is the story of Addison.
Addison was a child depraved from loving touch since she lost her parents at a very young age and she realizes that love doesn't come cheap. As we follow her footsteps we see her as a college student foul in love and dreams meeting the man of her dreams, we see her as young mother way over her head with the problems of childbearing and upbringing, we see her as a young woman struggling to make something of her life except being the trophy wife her husband intended her to be.
I felt an instant connection with Addison, especially since motherhood wasn’t what I expected either. Being a parent is difficult most of the times and it gets a turn for the worst when you are a stay-at-home parent. Suddenly what defines you as a person is you child, well Addison didn’t like that (neither do I to be honest).
“Time seemed inconsequential. The days dragged on, bled from on to another, all seeming exactly the same. Minutes gave way to hours and the hours into days then months. Addie wondered what she did to deserve this. She wondered why she wasn’t good enough and how she could fail at something that was supposed to be innate. Who failed at motherhood, anyway?
As Addison struggles to find the woman in her she discovers many things hidden, she finds power, she finds peace in her choices, and she discovers the truth about her life and everyone around her.
In this journey our heroine is not alone although her husband remains on the sidelines Addison meets people who see in her what she failed to see in herself all her life; William gives her another meaning in love and Sondra gives her.....well, she gives her ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES…..
In the beginning of this book we meet a woman trying to find her footing and her purpose in life and by the end we say goodbye to a strong, confident one.
This one took me a while to get into. It wasn't the writing because I thought that was great. The plot was good and started out strong but something kept holding me back. I kept plugging along hoping that I would get into it and about halfway through I found that not only was I into the book, I didn't want it to end!
Now, back to the beginning, the first chapter was extremely powerful and left me wondering what was going to happen to Addison. Maybe it was the back story that threw me off, finding out that she was all into getting married and being a girly girl... blah, blah, blah... the story is solely about her life so not getting into her character does create a detriment. But then she shifts. She is strong she just didn't know it!
And I love the new Addison, like seriously! The plot picked up pace and everything started really making sense. So I guess it all comes down to Addison's character and how she didn't resonate with me, in the beginning. By the end, however, I am absolutely loving her and hoping that everything will turn out ok because wow, this girl is a mess!
The other characters in the book, like William... whew that guy! He is to die for! He's just really interesting. And then we have Patrick, ohhh that guy... Now he isn't one to die for. I'm just totally not a fan at all.
And then there's Sondra! She's hilarious but completely not in the normal sense. She's just totally off the wall and then you find out what's really behind her mask and woah baby! Watch out!
All in all I totally wound up loving this and cannot wait to read book two, Breaking Bedrock!
i really liked the story line with this book i enjoyed watching Addie grow more into herself and how by the end of book she knew how strong she was and what she wanted in her life. I also really liked the character's William is one of my favorites b/c i think he's so damaged and i love a guy that's not perfect and is able to overcome what ever his problem is with the help of a good women. As for Patrick i hate him i don't see anything good in this man he only care for his self. I think i hate Patrick more than the actual bad guy Scott Hammons. Do i wish that the sex scenes were a little racier maybe with a little more detail epically when it comes to her working in the club and i really wish that the book was a tad longer just long enough to let us reader know for sure that she goes back to William i just feel that it just cut off that there is still more to know. but all in all this is a great book and can't wait to read her next book.hopefully she may even right another one with William in it.
This book starts off with a gripping first chapter, where there is no way you can stop reading because you just have to know what happened.
I was a little disappointed towards the middle because it started to have a "Fifty Shades of Grey" feel to it. But the Author did a good job not focusing on the shock factor and keeping to the story. It was a little slow in the beginning but picked up after a few chapters to the point where you want/need to know what is going to happen next.
Some people may hate the ending, I kind of liked it. Life and marriage is not all Black & White. There is a lot of grey area. And sometimes we find ourselves stuck in that grey area for the good of the others in our lives.
I hope this is not that last we hear from these characters. I would definitely be interested in reading a sequel to this book.
When I read the first chapter of Bedrock I thought this book is not for me. But I kept reading and I am so glad I did. I found this book to be very entertaining with a few twists which I didn’t expect and I didn’t want to put it down. I loved the chemistry between Addie and William, the flirty/humor they had. The more I read the better it got and I was sad when it ended. I’ve heard this book is a little Fifty Shades of Grey and it does have a few similarities but it’s definitely its own book. The sex is low key but has lots romance and makes you want to read more.
Let's see...first of all....when does the next book come out??? I want it now, I need to know what happens :) Pretty good story if I say so myself ;) good characters, great chemistry between characters and some characters you wanna slap (mother in law). I am eager to see what happens with this story, I hope the next book comes very soon!
Here’s the thing, my ratings are really inconsistent and all over the place, but I tend to rate books higher that I compulsively read. I finished this today. All in one day - which is very rare, so I’m leaning towards 4 stars.
This was a freebie from the wonderful Britney King. I bought The Social Affair on Amazon a few months back and just read it a couple weeks ago. At the end of the book, there are instructions to go to her website and subscribe and get on that email list for a surprise! And guess what? This is one! So please buy her books and subscribe at www.britneyking.com 🙂
This book wasn’t what I was expecting based on the cover (we always judge books by the cover, don’t lie). Sometimes you need a good book that you can get through in a day or two. As far as psychological/domestic thrillers go, she knows how to write one. I won’t give you a blurb because you can read that at the top of the page in the book description but I’ll say her writing is addicting and I need to read it all!
I received this book free after I read and received another one of Britney Kings books. I really didn’t know what I was getting into, but was pleasantly surprised. Addison and her husband are having marital issues, and she seems to be a bit controlling. She decides after the kids are born to go back into the work force and the husband is not happy about it. He decides to take a work offer in China and pretty much just leaves his family. Addison getting back into the work force, gets more then she bargained for and gets in a tight situation. Will definitely be checking out the next book in the series!
This book covered all the good things that a good mystery romance should be. Addison and Patrick seem to have a good marriage until William comes into Addie's life. And life goes on....
Okay. Well, There is a lot of ups and downs going on here. First of all, I like the subject matter, and the whole idea Ms. King starts out with- But-so poorly written and so many points left out and scenes left unexplored, that it was a barely one star read (for me).
Addison Greyer's (the main character) initial meeting and romance with Patrick (soon to be husband) was so fairy tale, so explosive, and ideal, it is very hard to follow it down the muddy, ugly trail it soon becomes. Just not planned out well, and the same scenario with her lover, Richard was written in. Same hot explosive chemistry between them both. It was like a carbon copy meeting, romance, etc. Too much of a good thing. Just unbelievable, and needed some contrast to develop the two story lines.
So Addison has the first baby, Connor. This theme is well developed, and the baby's first year explained well, the colic, the screaming, the changes in their lifestyle a new baby brings. Then the next pregnancy. It just kind of -happens. Nothing about the babies, (twins). I watched in expectation for their names to be reveled. They were nameless until the end of the book when the name - Hunter, pops up. Apparently this was one of the babies names. It was on the very last page of the book I saw both names! Hunter and James. This was a very odd and vague way to write about the main character's children.
The 'elevator scene'. It was so unrealistic and contrived it made the whole story line lose credibility. It could have been a powerful intro into how the book developed, Addison's encounter with Patrick and the following new part time job of dominatrix. Addison's own intense sexuality being rekindled by a total stranger. But we go from - in bed with her loving husband-to a sudden, 'heck yeah', to abrupt sex with a handsome man in an elevator. Not entertaining in a believable sense, it lost the drama and powerful intensity it could, and should of had. The start out intro of Addison meeting Patrick and their romance leading to marriage was very deep and full of loving description, the stuff that Happily Ever After is made of; so this was a very lame unbelievable segue to her romp with Richard.
The editing was horrific, with many, MANY typo's, double words, if's, and's and they's, mixed up and punctuation problems. I felt I must be reading a draft copy.
The distinct feel of Fifty Shades was a disappointment here also, and felt very 'copy cat'. The emailed flirty messages between both Patrick and Addison, he is Mr. Corporate America personified, the security available all the time, the penthouse, the endless stream of available funds, gifts- etc.
After she launches into more than a one time elevator sex with Richard, there is no explanation of their relationship, it just kind of is understood she is having an affair with him. Okay. Why? Toward the end, the book states that she is trying to 'keep some distance' between herself and Richard as she really loves her husband and wants her family back. Within the same few pages, she is having an afternoon delight of her own whim with Richard at a new location. Okay. No credibility here at all.
All this being what it is-'Why did I keep reading'? There were redeeming features. Unlike some other reviewers, I did like the main character Addison, and appreciate that real life love and affairs are never textbook. And I also liked the part time job idea she got into as a Dom, although it could have been explored so much more than it was, a reading of the hand book was about the deepest exploration offered into this subject.
The whole book had a -hurry up and write this thing-, feel to it, so much was left out, yet some parts elaborated on, the first kid, the marriage, etc. filled with detail, then the mother in law, the China trip, Patrick's mistress, and so many other themes were cut short.
Lets see how Ms. King does with the sequel.
I think it could have been done much smoother, more detail where needed and less Fifty Shades. All in all, as it took me a night or two to read the book, it was manageable.
Bedrock is a book that started out questionably for me, but as the story progessed the plot ties together more cohesively and the character development flows. We learn that Addison (Addie)lost her parents at a very young age and was raised by her cold, unloving grandparents. An intelligent, ambitious girl, Addie goes off to college in pursuit of her dreams. She literally bumps into Patrick one day a falls in love. Though Patrick's family is not so accepting of her, he eventually asks her to marry him. As they start a family, Addie begins to question her place in the world. For the first time she feels she is a failure, not cut out to be a mother.
"Time seemed inconsequential. The days dragged on, bled from on to another, all seeming exactly the same. Minutes gave way to hours and the hours into days then months. Addie wondered what she did to deserve this. She wondered why she wasn't good enough and how she could fail at something that was supposed to be innate. Who failed at motherhood, anyway?"
As she feels the walls closing in on her, she struggles with her desire to return to the workplace, a place where she finds success and her identity. The turning point in the story is when Addison boards the elevator to her future...She meets William Hartman when enroute to an interview. The attraction is instant. William brings out parts of Addison that have lain dormant. When she returns to the workforce, she also meets a character by the name of Sondra, who introduces Addison to feelings of power, passion and strength; all of the things she has been missing. While wrapped up in her new life, Addison will find herself making some difficult and life-changing choices. We need to read the sequel to find out what happens next!
