Fantasy/epic/ sword and sorcery. Returning from the Northern Wastes, Fergus was dismayed to find that the Bards were indeed “singing his name”, as he made a joyous reunion with his comrades of the TKT. His time on the plains of Valdenheim was short lived however, and given his first command, he was sent on a treacherous journey, south through the infamous Illesian swamps to the exotic Southern lands. There, amid the burning sands, an ancient horror awaited them… one that not only thirsted for their lives, but for their very souls.
J.W. Kent is a Bluegrass musician and avid homebrewer. He also enjoys fishing, black powder firearms, playing his bagpipes and doting on his granddaughter. He makes his home in the Shenandoah Valley with his wife Robin, and can not imagine a life without dogs in it.
Another great installment in the adventures of Fergus! I found this book very engaging. Fergus is maturing, shouldering responsibility, exploring new locations and cultures, and honing his skills, even the ones that he can't quite remember acquiring. This book adds a bit of sorcery to go with the swords, as well. While Fergus is the main attraction of the book, I was also much taken with the descriptions of the changing landscapes that Fergus and his companions travel through. J.W. Kent has a knack for drawing clear images with his words. I wished that I could sketch well as I read some of the descriptions. I look forward to continuing to follow Fergus on his travels. His story is one that's just plain fun to read.
The legend of Fergus continues with the third installment, weaving in some sorcery with the swordplay. Kent further cements himself as an outstanding writer with this great story, and expands the world of Fergus in the process. A great read, and I wholeheartedly recommend this series if you are a fan of fantasy fiction.
After greatly enjoying the first two books of the series, I just had to slip this in before continuing my current series.
Once again, I liked the book, although I liked the books more when there was less of the supernatural going on. The character development is starting to take shape, and I am curious to see how the Legend of Fergus will continue in the next book(s).
One criticism I still have is the spelling and grammar of the book. I am not a native englisch speaker, but I noticed a lot of missing commata (I am a bit of a comma nazi). It was never quite so bad that it made the book hard to understand, but it irritated me while reading.
Anyway, I would recommend this series to everyone who likes light-hearted fantasy. And since it is part of the kindle lending library, it's not like it's costing you anything to try it out, right?
This third book in The Legend of Fergus "series" surprised me with its turn to the supernatural. Initially I was a little hesitant as it was not what I was expecting. However, Fergus is still, well, Fergus. I can't help but love the man and love the absolutely wonderful writing style of J.W. Kent. I will eagerly be awaiting further tales of this beloved hero!
I hope there will be more stories about Fergus. He is a fun character and gets into the strangest predicaments. I think good books leave you wanting more and this definitely does that. There is adventure at every turn, some magic, some tragedy, lots of wonder. I very much enjoyed this book as I did the previous 2 in this series.
