About the author

Pratibha Ray is an Indian academic and writer. Her search for a "social order based on equality, love, peace and integration", continues, since she first penned at the age of nine. She wrote for a social order, based on equality without class, caste, religion or sex discriminations which are so common in India.

She was formerly a professor in Education and former member of Odisha Public Service Commission. She is one of the leading fiction writers in India writing in her mother tongue Odia. She has several novels, travelogues, short story, poetry and essay collections to her credit. She is the recipient of the Jnanpith Award for her contribution to Indian literature, the Moorti Devi Award, the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Padma Shri given by the Government of India.

One of my very favourite books till date. The delicacy with which the writer portrays her protagonist Lipsa is amazing. The writer always amaze me with her woman centered novels and Lipsa is not different! The evolving of a woman from her childhood to adulthood, her delicate thoughts, strong views and yet being sidelined for a mistake of none...it couldn't have been shown any more better than here...For not to be mistaken,its not a story of empowering woman or something but a personal life..a life of many women like Lipsa

"കാമുകിക്കേ പുരുഷന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ പൂർണത കൊണ്ടുവരുത്താൻ സാധിക്കുകയുള്ളു. എന്നാൽ അവൾ തന്നെ അയാളുടെ മനസ്സ് സദാ ചഞ്ചലാവസ്ഥയിലും അസ്വസ്ഥനിലയിലും നിർത്തി വിമ്മിട്ടപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഭാര്യക്ക് ഭർത്താവിന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ പൂർണത കൊണ്ട് വരാൻ കഴിയുകയില്ലായിരിക്കാം. പക്ഷെ അയാളുടെ മനസ്സിൽ സ്ഥിരത നിറച്ചു കൊടുക്കാൻ പ്രയാസമുണ്ടാവില്ല."

പ്രതിഭാ റായുടെ പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ ഞാൻ ഓരോന്നായി വായിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുക്കുകയാണ്. പുണ്യതോയ വായിച്ചതോടെ അവരുടെ എഴുത്ത് എനിക്ക് ഇഷ്ടപെട്ടുതുടങ്ങി. അത് വളരെ ഹൃദയസ്പർശിയാണ്.. മർദ്ദവമുള്ളവയാണ്.. ചിലയിടത്ത് അത് തീ പോലെ പൊള്ളുന്നു..

പുണ്യതോയയിലെ വർഷയും ഇപ്പോൾ വായിച്ച വനത്തിലെ ലിപ്സയുമൊക്കെ ഈ കാലഘട്ടത്തിലെ സ്ത്രീകളാണ്. അവരുടെ മാനസിക സംഘർഷങ്ങൾ വല്ലാത്തൊരു വ്യഥ നൽകുന്നുണ്ട് മനസ്സിന്. അവർ ഒരായിരം ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ തൊടുത്തു വിടുന്നുണ്ട് ഈ സമൂഹത്തിലേക്ക്. അതൊക്കെ കൊണ്ട് തറക്കുന്നത് നമ്മുടെയൊക്കെ ഹൃദയങ്ങളിലേക്കാണ്.
അതിന് നമ്മളും ഉത്തരം പറയേണ്ടി വന്നേക്കാം

ആരണ്യ എന്ന ഒറിയ നോവലിന്റെ മലയാള പരിഭാഷയാണ് വനം. മനോഹരമായ വിവർത്തനം പുസ്തകത്തെ കൂടുതൽ interesting ആക്കി മാറ്റിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
