Marc, a small pet shop owner and seer, needs help with his store, but his new employee, Galen, brings with him more trouble than expected. Marc tries to keep their relationship professional even if Galen seems insistent on taking it to the next level. And then there is the problem of Galen’s past.
Keiran, a hard working medical student and Marc’s best friend, has a small problem, a stalker. One night he confronts the man and finds that his stalker vampire, Devlan, is too alluring to turn down. But Devlan isn’t who he seems to be.
When the four men meet up for a night out their lives fall apart. Marc’s premonitions turn out to be wrong and everything points towards one autumn night a couple of years ago. Now they need to figure out what happened that night, before someone dies, again.
Time is running out. The visions might be false, but they don’t paint a pretty picture, not about their futures and, especially, not about their pasts. They need to reverse the change before it is too late.
Kia Zi Shiru is a Dutch girl studying English and Creative Writing in the UK. Amongst her interests she finds writing, reading, doing research and learning different languages (including but not limited to: English, Dutch, French, German, HTML, Java, PHP and Assembly). Marc owns a pet shop and needs help with his store. His cat Isis leads him to a kitten in an alley that has befriended Galen. Little does he know that this accidental meeting is anything but an accident. Galen ends up being Marc's new employee and as much as he is trying to keep everything professional things end up being more. Marc is what is known as a seer and he can see the future. Marc's best friend Kieran is being followed by an unknown presence. He finally decides to confront this presence and meets Devlan a stalker vampire. These 2 end up having a tremendously torrid love affair. When you put all four of these guys together Marc's premonitions end up being more than he can handle. He's not sure if these visions are true or false. He's beginning to wonder if Galen's past is someone else's past or if he is truly the person he believes he is. People may die if things are not set right. Did everyone meet for a reason or is this an accidental life? Is everyone who they expect them to be or is everyone living a lie? This book will take you to many places and keep you guessing about how things will turn out. The author does a great job at tying everything together at the end for a surprise ending. The characters are engaging and likable. It gives a unique spin on the typical vampire stories. Truly looking forward to more from this author
Marc is able to see the future and has been friends with Kieran, a vampire, since they trained together. Although Kieran has been helping out Marc at the store the truth is that he needs permanent help. In comes Galen, a shy, young man he stumbles into on the street. Recognizing that Galen seems in need of help and that he is probably something more than what he appears, Marc decides to offer him a job. Little does he expect that his attraction to Galen and the connection they share would disrupt Marc and Kieran's world.
Kieran knows that Devlan is trouble, but he can't help himself. He is drawn to him in ways he can't explain, but when lies by omission, betrayal and secrets start to reveal themselves, Kieran has to face the ugly truth - Devlan is not who he portrays himself to be. However, they all must work together to right the wrong that could affect their lives one way or another.
This was an interesting story to get into. At first, I was a bit hesitant since it started slow and I didn't know which direction it was going to go. I was especially hesitant with the appearance of Kieran. Don't get me wrong, he was a great addition to the story, but the switch of POV from Marc to Kieran threw me off and it wasn't after a couple of chapters in that I was able to get the hang of it.
I loved the concept behind the story. I think it was original and well-executed. The paranormal aspects of the story, the mystery of the character's connection and the romances that developed coupled with the author's trademark prose flowed seamlessly with the characters and their personalities. Marc and Galen's story could not be told without throwing Kieran's story into the mix and Kia Zi Shiru did a great job bringing it all together to make it work.
Marc was a great character to get to know. He was smart, sweet and considerate. He had everyone's best interests in mind, even at the expense of his own and I admired him for that. His easy-going manner and charm was a treat to read and his interactions with the other characters revealed a lot about his true self. Galen was also great, but it wasn't until the second half of the book that I was able to connect with him fully.
I enjoyed how Marc and Galen were brought together slowly. Their connection was immediate, but its development grew as the story progressed. In the end, I was so emotionally invested in them being a couple that when they finally came together I was grinning from ear to ear. Their interactions were both sweet and frustrating. At times I wanted to smack them upside the head for taking it so slow and at others I wanted to comfort them and tell them it would all work out.
Although Kieran's presence threw me off at first, I soon came to appreciate what he brought to the story. He was passionate and loyal to a fault. He was strong-minded and not easily fooled and it was his loyalty and strength of character that led me to wish he could find his HEA. I enjoyed his interactions with other characters and how he dealt with Devlan and the mess he brought with his presence. I want to know more about Kieran and Cole's story, especially after witnessing Marc vision. *hint, hint* ;-)
Disturbed Fate is the first book in the Otherkin Spirits series and a very good start at that. Kia Zi Shiru managed to deliver a wonderful combination of great characters backed by an interesting concept with a bit of angst and a dash of heat to round it all up. All in all, a very enjoyable read.

Complimentary Review Copy Provided by Author. This is a hard book to review for me. Mainly because it was so different to what I normally read. It had lots of stuff going on that made me think I was dropped in half way through a longer story. However that said it is a really good story that had me interested enough to keep going and things became much clearer the longer I read. Luckily that brought me to a very surprise ending that made it all worthwhile. Oh and one more thing, if you like unique versions on Vampires then you will find it here. I have book two to read which actually has a vampire as a main character and I am hoping it will follow this uniqueness too.
once the story got fleshed out, the actual plot was interesting but I didn't connect with the characters. There was a lot going on and I didn't feel like enough was properly explained.
This book had a lot of twists and turns and roads leading nowhere. While I enjoyed the outcome of the story, parts were confusing. The end seemed drawn out and the next book isn’t the couple I expected. There’s some editing issues and the descriptions of things are very superficial- I didn’t get a good sense of what people looked like or where they were.
It wasn’t a bad book. There were a lot of interesting ideas, I just don’t think it was executed the best.
Marc is a seer whose visions always come true, but something's disturbed the pattern of events in his time, rendering his visions useless. Together with his friends Kei and Devlan, boyfriend Galen and housemate Diana they must travel to the Oracle and put it right... but some things will be changed forever, regardless of their actions. Can they stabilize the timeline and bring happiness to their lives, or will the unseer's power to change fate destroy their destinies?
After a slow start, this book started to grow on me. As it became clear that things were not as they should be in their time, I became more interested in this book and its characters. Disturbed Fate weaves an interesting tale of consequences in a time where seers and vampires exist. One change in the timeline throws them all off course and places the group in danger. I especially liked that even though they manage to set things right in a way, there is no magical deus ex machina. What is changed stays that way forever, which is realistic.
I liked Galen's tale of moving on from his dead boyfriend Dom, but his former name Yuki (which everyone but Marc uses) became an annoyance to me at times, with the man constantly referred to by different names. It had a purpose in the plot, but it was confusing and difficult to get used to. It was resolved at the end, but I really would have preferred the characters hadn't insisted on referring to him by different names throughout the book. It would have been far better to refer to him as Yuki and change his name to Galen at the end than the confused, half-assed way that some people called him Yuki and others Galen.
I didn't really gel with the romance all that well and failed to feel the chemistry between Marc and Galen, but the supporting characters (including some strong women) really helped carry the plot and keep me reading. The pacing was at times uneven, and the book felt like it should have finished in several places before it actually did, but it was a good enough story that I'm interested in reading the second novel.
Disturbed Fate is no literary masterpiece, with some awkward language and dialogue in places, and a few errors scattered here and there. You will probably enjoy it if you like contemporary supernatural stories and have patience for a good story that unfolds slowly.

This is the first book in the series set in a world with seers and sanguine (blood) and psychic vampires. In the beginning of the book, the chapters alternate the perspective between two pairings. Marc, the seer with the ability to see the future, picks up a stray, Galen, and gives him a job. Keiran, a psychic vampire who always rely on Marc's predictions, falls for Devlan, a sanguine vampire. When the four people finally meet, they uncover hidden identities among them and a changed fate that may cause another death.
A major problem I had with the book is the introduction of important characters late in the book. A background story should be developed for all the central characters. More foreshadowing in the beginning or other small indications would help smooth the transition and help introduce new characters.
The best part of the book is when the mystery accumulates and all the story threads tie together. The different possible versions of the future are showed and other elements contributes to the overall mystery and danger of death. However, the plot lines can be tighter to help build up the suspense and danger later on. The discussion about changed fate and its consequences is interesting.
At the end, I'm happy with the HEA and the successful romance pairings even though they not very believable and yet another new character is introduced. This is a simple read for a day when you have more time on your hands than you know what to do with.

Otherkin’s is a very unusual story. It is a story of four young men and how their fates and destinies cross. They each have certain talents or powers that make them an Otherkin.
Marc and Keiran are friends. Marc is a seer and Kieran a Psychic vamp. Marc sees the future but the future can always be changed. All of a sudden his visions seem to change and he finds out that someone has done something to change the future and he has to find out who and what and if it can be repaired or they may all die.
The story had a lot of promise but I had a few issues. First of all it seemed like something was missing, almost as if I had picked it up in the middle. I had no idea what a seer was. I also had no idea Galen had a power or what it was. I had so many questions. I will say that you must read this one out to the end. Eventually most of my questions were answered only leaving a couple about some of the others powers. I liked the concept of the Otherkins a lot. I probably would have enjoyed the book more if I knew more about each boy sooner such as how Keiran and Marc became friends, their ages(at times it felt as if they were very young like under 19 then all of a sudden older and working) and more about the powers. Having said that it was a intriguing and sweet.
If you like new adults, coming into powers, new unique breeds, physic vamps, vampires, seers, twists, and kittens this is definitely for you!
Storyline Marc is a seer whose visions used to be always right, but are now not seeing things the way they should. His best friend Kieran is a psy-vampire who has attracted a new man who has brought trouble with him. And Marc's new employee's fate has changed as well.
Conflict Galen & his partner were supposed to be moving to town, but the friends have found out that the partner has been dead for several years. Keiran's new man is telling them lies & leaving things out.
My Thoughts I found the plot difficult to follow and disjointed. And at times for some reason, I had a hard time keeping the characters apart.
The actual story was excellent, but I think it could have been so much more. There is a second book in the series, and I will give it a shot because I do like the writing style. I just hope there is more emphasis on the paranormal points because that would just make the story that much better. Overall not a bad book, but it did leave me with more questions than answers.
Read up to 10%, abandoned English is not my first language, so rarely I talk about the quality of the writing, but for this one I have to... it's so freaking confusing I was totally lost. It's self-published, so again, rarely I complain about the writing, but it's the only reason I can't go on, so I have to talk about it. I like the characters, and it seems it will be a complex plot with a lot of stuff going on at the same time, but how can I read it it I struggle all the time to understand it?
no rating because I give up too soon to feel comfortable to give a rating
