This book is rather similar to the Carrie Blackaby one (Customized Parenting in a Trending World) but less Canadian. Author is a young Christian woman who writes about how women can be rebellious by glorifying God in a culture that bases too much of a woman's value on her sexuality, appearance, and ability to get or keep male company.

This is a short book and a pretty easy read. Goodreads says its 224 pages but it's barely 200; the notes section starts on page 185.

I wasn’t sure about this book until about the 3rd chapter. There were lots of depressing stories and examples I hated and could have been left out. By the middle of the book I started to see her testimony and it was inspiring. I love the push to be a courageous and god loving women in todays world. I liked how the Bible stories of women were told and how easy it was to understand. I love the way sex was talked about. I wish more churches would teach with the mindset that women were created by god to be sexy and that’s not a bad thing!

I'm in my 20 somethings and this book helped me understand the culture that I'm currently in and the culture that I'm supposed to be in. She (M. C. Allison) is direct to the point with matching examples of people who are really living these days. This book is a must read for a girl who feels she is ugly and weird just because she doesn't like doing the wrong things others do normally.

Be Rebellious – Fight Back Against a Culture That Doesn’t Care About You. Now there’s a challenging title. Had I not read the back of the book, I would certainly think that this book was about a whole other subject. But it isn’t. It’s about being a Rebel. It’s about being what society isn’t. It’s about being our true self… the self that God created us to be. It’s okay to want “a more traditional faith, rather than a hip version of Christianity” (page 67). It’s okay to want to rebel against everything that pulls you away from total intimacy with God, and it’s okay to have doubts and to beg Him for answers and to turn to HIM for the answers to the questions of our life.

We can rebel against a society that says that purity is old-fashioned, that “keeping ourselves” for our husband is not cool and so outdated, and that any form of Godliness is totally “uncool”.

Why is it we as a society ridicule any professional athlete or otherwise that proclaims their Christianity, or unashamedly admit their chastity on national television? We watch, and perhaps chuckle, as they are mercilessly “roasted” by the late-night comedians and the liberal press. We read the nastiest of twitter comments about a 30+-year-old female tennis player that admits her virginity. And yet on the flip side we, also as that same society, celebrate those engaging in an alternate lifestyle. Clearly something is very amiss with our national moral compass.

This is a book that, while it is written by a woman much younger than I, I can clearly see her passion and accept her challenge to Rebel. “Will you dare to believe and follow Christ in a world that says moral values and integrity are crazy? (Page 177) or is it “go along” to “get along”?

Chapter Five of Megan Clinton's book BE REBELLIOUS:FIGHT BACK AGAINST A CULTURE THAT DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOU begins with a powerful quote from well known author Elisabeth Elliot. "The fact that I am woman does not make me a different kind of Christian, but the fact that I am a Christian does make me a different kind of woman." This quote is the overall theme of Megan's book.

Throughout the 9 chapters of her book, Clinton elaborates on the lies of the secular society, the world in which we live. Lies that so many women believe regarding sex, identity, acceptance, and self worth. Using well documented quotes from books, articles and recorded interviews, Clinton tells the stories of popular celebrities, and athletes as well as lesser known and unknown young women to describe the current atmosphere that young girls women find themselves today. She shows that we have all, even as Christians, in some ways bought into the lies that society advocates.

The goal of Clinton's book is to dispel these lies and to call each of us to be different women, based on the love of Christ and our lives as Christians.

The book is a quick read, its fast pace aided by the enormous amount of quotes and facts taken from many sources. It's style will be familiar to those who savvy with twitter, facebook and instagram. Sometimes I felt I was reading a series of twitter posts, attempts to say as much as possible in 140 characters or less. There were times while I read that I wish that Megan had elaborated a bit more on HOW to be different, HOW to be rebellious. She does a great job in setting out her case and identifying the problem, but sometimes fails to show us some concrete ways to change, to fight the tide of conformity. On page 66, Megan states that "to survive spiritually in this world, we need to preach the gospel to ourselves ...every single day." This is possibly the most important way in which we can "rebel", but Megan doesn't elaborate. The gift of the Lord Jesus Christ (the gospel), is our only hope, our only reason to rebel. I wish that Megan had explained this fact, to help Christian women to understand the power of Christ's love. Identity in Christ and his gospel gives us the ability and desire to rebel against the lies of the world.

This book will appeal to young women, both Christian and non Christian. It's tone will feel familiar to Christian women, but a non Christian or new believer may feel they are left "hanging", finding it difficult to get from "drinking the koolaide" (chapter 2) to total rebellion.

Megan Clinton, graduate of Liberty University, writes “Be Rebellious” with the intention of reaching out to, and changing, the American culture of women and what they believe it means to be beautiful or worthy. She challenges the concept that beauty is all about empty sex and meaningless seduction. She argues that life is more than these deceptions of our culture and the American philosophy. She targets the fallacies that Hollywood presents to keep everyone enslaved to false beauty and need. And she’s right.

In her book, Clinton writes with a voice that will capture the reader’s heart and draw them in, helping them recognize their own insecurities and conquer them in the name of Christ. Written by a woman to women, this book is inspiring and challenging, forcing other women to encounter their own doubts and struggles in the mirror, and walk away victorious instead of beaten down.

Clinton writes with an authenticity that will challenge readers to be motivated to change their lives. With her transparent approach combined with statistical information, Clinton aims to change the culture of what it means to be a woman from suicide and depression to one of joy and self respect. That’s the goal of her book, and she fights it head on. When the Hollywood image of beauty is what the control is, Clinton, and her readers, have no choice but to be rebellious against it, and reclaim the essence of being a woman in Christ. To top it off, Clinton shares the experiences of real individuals who took the campaign to be rebellious only in the midst of great conflict.

Are you in? Are you ready to fight back against the system that doesn’t care about you?

For being a guy, I found this book worth a read, so imagine how much better it would be to its intended audience…for that, I give it 5 stars. With an important message, and style of writing that flows well and engages the reader, Clinton’s book is a necessary read for women facing insecurity or being hung up on Hollywood’s message of beauty…

Be Rebellious by Megan Clinton is a call to young women everywhere to take charge of their destinies and become the women they were created to be. In Clinton’s words,”…rebel against a culture that tries to define success for us…”This young woman has her priorities in the right place as she confronts our degraded culture.

This book covers material from the Song of Solomon through the rise of social media. Her examples of rebels from the Bible are especially inspiring. Rebels don’t have to bomb buildings or hack into computers or be outrageously dressed. Mary the mother of Jesus dared to believe an angel who told her God would use her to do impossible things. Esther risked her life to save her people by violating a law and going before the King uninvited. Ruth turned her back on an idolatrous culture and followed her widowed mother-in-law to a strange land and an invisible God.

Books like this give me hope for the future. Take heart, America! Not all young women are spending all their time having one-night stands and abortions while embracing communism and rejecting family and faith. Some, like Clinton and her readers, are rebels in the best sense of the word.

Finally, a book for young women that helps dispel the ridiculous media culture that we live in that fosters a belief in young women that they are not worthy unless they are thin..ridiculously thin. And drop dead gorgeous. Young women have enough to think about without worrying about their weight. What is with Size 0? Who is nothing. Who would want to be nothing?

Conforming is not the answer. In be REBELLIOUS, author Megan Clinton argues for young women to be individuals. To be unique. To be rebels against conforming. Following biblical principles and utilizing stories that young women can relate to, Megan provides insight that the young women of today can follow.

Chapters:

A Cruel Joke
Don’t Drink the Kool-Aid
No Longer a Victim
Dare to Believe
I Am Woman
Sexy and Sexy
From Facebook to Face to Face
Something to Live For
Rebel and Be Set Free

Highly recommend this book for all young women.

With our God, we are rebellious. We are unstoppable. And we will change our world!

MY GENERAL THOUGHTS: Be rebellious is an excellent devotion for young ladies! Megan Clinton uses life stories to illustrate her points, Bible verses that are excellent for memorizing and great little quotes on almost every page. The layout is wonderful, the chapters not overwhelming, and I love how it is written.

QUESTIONABLE CONTENT: Megan is very straightforward when she writes, therefore, she doesn’t beat around the bush when speaking of teen sex and why it should be avoided. Also, some of the stories she uses include suicides, eating disorders, and bullying. Because of these, I really think that the age for reading is really anyone older than 13. However, if you have a daughter/granddaughter/niece who is younger and dealing with some (or all) of these issues, I do recommend reading the book with her, so that she will have someone with her if she has any questions :-)

OVERALL OPINION: I rate Be Rebellious 5 out of 5 stars and it is highly recommended!

This book took me by surprise and I actually got a lot from it! The topics are organized in a way that didn't make this book boring. Pretty much it's about being in the world but not of it, rebelling against worldly standards. Some of the things I think could be geared more toward teenagers but really its a good book for women in general. One that made me think was "True Friends in a Fake World", especially pertaining to women. I think it's difficult to be ourselves when we are constantly judging and categorizing every other woman we know and see. I like Megan's point of view and thoughts on the matter.

For a non-fiction read this one is really pretty good and not a dull read.
I recommend to any woman teen and up.

I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I picked up this book. To be truthful, I thought it may be something on modern feminism and how women should rule the world, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is a really easy read, and I think you get a lot out of it. Megan Clinton has a more religious perspective than I'm used to, but not the in your face kind. She tries to reach teens by explaining how life is about being who you are, and not letting someone define you. Her main argument states that she lives for god, and that's who everyone should live for. She hits points on being feminine, but not so that you give yourself away and forget who you are. I would recommend this book. It made me think about the decisions some people, including myself, make without even realizing it.

I was super excited to win this as part of a Goodreads giveaway, and psyched when it arrived in the mail! Within a few pages, I realized that, somewhere somehow, I'd failed to pick up on the 'young woman' aspect of the book. ;)
I did enjoy this book immensely, though, and found it full of the important things that every woman -- young or not-so-young -- needs to be hearing these days. We do need to be telling one another and ourselves these things, reconstructing our lion-hearted confidence on a daily basis.
Despite my surprise, I'm thoroughly happy to have read this book, and now I will be recommending it to some very dear young friends of mine!

Goodreads win. Will read and review once received.

This was a decently surprising book. I wasn't really expecting to get much from this book, but I ended up getting quite a bit out of it. The author did a great job of organizing the book. I will admit I was expecting this book to be boring, but I was wrong about that. This was a great book for woman and I can definitely see some of things that are talked about in the book being more towards the younger crowd. A not dull read I would definitely recommend this book to many friends and family. A great read.

This is an excellent book for young women. This is a call for women to not find their value in what they see in the mirror or on TV. Clinton is very honest about the deceptive nature of sex. Young women who feel they are made for more will benefit from reading this book. Women will be encouraged to become who God wants them to be.

This book really made me think...in a good way! It definitely changed my whole opinion on what it means to be a Christian woman in today's world. I am definitely guilty of being a go with the flow type and really worrying about what people around me have to say. For a long time, their opinion was equal to my amount of self worth. I can't wait to put these practices into play and share this book with the girls in my youth group!

*I received this in a Goodreads giveaway*

I really enjoyed this book! I think all Christian girls could benefit from reading this. My only complaint is the writing style. There are WAY too many one-word sentences and sentences that start with "and" and "but". On just about every page you'll find several sentences in a row that are just one word each. It can get old reading the same kind of sentence over and over. Besides the writing style, I did like the book!

Thank you Megan Clinton for the free signed copy!

I loved this book. I felt it was aimed a bit more towards high school age, but I definitely learned so much from this book and got a lot out of it.
A great book about staying rooted in God and not in the things our culture tells us we should be, think, or do!
I would recommend this book!

I won this novel in the First Reads giveaway! Clinton has an impressive argument with relative ideas on how God can guide you in this rather horrendous culture we live in. Although I am not very religious the book was still appealing and gives wonderful advice, I would definitely recommend to teenage girls!

I have not finished this book yet... but so far it seems to be awesome! I love how relatable this book is to teen girls, and although it is a little deep in some parts...I would recommend it to others that are looking for good, Godly advice and reassurance of His great love for us.
