Ugh...where to begin...where to begin.
The last several chapters just left me upset. This manga started off AMAZING. I was like a giddy 12 year old in the beginning and thought "ERMAHGERD!! @^$* BEST THING EVER, THIS WILL TOTALLY KNOCK OUT ouran high school host club AS MY FAVOURITE MANGA EVER".
Alas. I didn't think anything could change my mind. This train of thought was derailed quite swiftly though. Around volumes 9-10, the plot took a nose dive. It crashed and burned with little survivors.
The main problem was the sloppy plot line. Too much was happening. Too many useless characters were introduced and everything just got SO DAMN CONFUSING . Characters feeling, stories, and plans changed in the blink of an eye. It was too much of a roller coaster. It's like the author couldn't make up her mind of what she wanted to do. She seemed to have dug herself into a whole and didn't know how to climb back out.
The one great thing about the manga though was the art. It was beautiful. Matsuri Hino's attention to detail was superb. Not only were the characters amazing, but also the background. It seemed like every page and every page was filled with sketches. I feel some manga artists get lazy or just don't care about backgrounds, but this was not the case with VK.
Ok, so that will probably be the only truly nice thing I'm gonna to say in this review. Let's talk about the characters:
So before I divulge into my assessment I have to say: GOD DAMMIT WOMAN, STOP MAKING YOUR CHARACTERS LOOK SO SIMILAIR!
1) Oh is that Aido? Or maybe it's Kain?
2) That's Shiki right? Oops, Kaito actually...
3) Is that Kaname...or Rido...or Haruka...oh wait, it's Yagari
GAAAHHHH. Ok, moving on...
ZERO : The only saving grace of this series was him. Tragic, dark, brooding, and scarred heroes always do the trick for me. Despite the fact that he was, for lack of a better word, a complete dick most of the time, he was the most likeable character. I felt like he was the consolation prize to Yuki and that made me sad.
YUKI: Ugh, *rubs temples*. She started off such a bright and awesome character but her flip-flopping of emotions pissed me off. "Do I love Zero or Kaname?! I love them both!". Gah. She was horribly altruistic but somehow didn't piss me off as much as Tohru from Fruits Basket. AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT HER BUMPING UGLIES WITH ??? DAFUQ WAS THAT? I honestly was confused at that. She had just and was extremely confused and vulnerable but all this somehow ended up with her . Seriously, after everything he did to her, this is how it ended between these too?
KANAME: Double Ugh.
I've never liked Kaname. Never. He always gave me the creeps and came off pretty stalker-ish. I felt like he treated Yuki as a possession. He used everybody. I mean look at what he did to Zero! I just don't understand his appeal and Yuki's love towards him. Bitch shoulda shanked his lame ass.
THE ENDING
The ending of the whole series felt so anticlimactic in my mind. I got really excited several chapters ago (Somewhere around chapter 80 or so. I forget the actual place), when Yuki and Zero were teaming up to hunt down and are attempting to stop him on his rampage. I was like, "YES...everything is going to be OK. They'll ice that mofo and everything will end happy." BUT I knew this would fall apart and end differently. And as a side note, I still don't understand why the "original parent" stopped Zero and Yuki and essentially destroyed most of the .
ANYWAYS, So then we find out that ISN'T EVIL and is trying to help. Lame.
So anywho, Yuki totally for some reason that is still confusing to me. WHY? Shit proceeds to hit the fan until Kaname finally . Zero finally gets some balls and .
1000 years pass and now we are presented with the fact that and is now . I actually had to look this up because I wasn't sure if that is actually what happened. I was confused because the author never actually said that .
We then find out that Aido and the others have completed the vampire "" but are unable to so Yuki decides to BOOOOOO.
OK AND AGAIN, I DIDN'T FULLY UNDERSTAND THIS UNTIL I LOOKED IT UP BUT APPEARENTLY THOSE TWO PEOPLE ARE THE END WERE . *sigh* NOT ENOUGH CLARITY DAMMIT!
EDIT : Alrighty. SO my rant above (hidden by the spoiler tag) seems to have been solved. Read comments below to confirm this. But I still feel the need to keep my ramblings in this review for my own sanity.
Like I said earlier I feel as though Zero was Yuki's . I don't know...it just didn't feel legit. I mean, there was so much romantic tension between Yuki and Zero and the way the author decided to end it felt incredibly rushed. Kaname tells them that he . Seriously, all we get to see of Yuki and IS ONLY LIKE ONE PAGE LONG. Then it basically cuts to . WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK? That was it?!
The ending was SUCH a cop-out . I really, really feel like Matsuri Hino was trying to please both Zero AND Kaname fanbases. GURL...Y U GET EVERYTHING. The whole ending left a bitter taste in my mouth. I really think I would have like the ending better if Yuki and Kaname (That just felt wrong and...unnecessary.) and if was made clear that both
Though, at least the ending wasn't a TOTAL, 100% shit-storm...I mean, I guess Yuki did (but no before getting herself a slice of .)
I give the Series overall 2.5-3 stars. I just can't make myself give it lower. The beginning was so strong and I got so invested into it. Poor plot development and poor story line hurt this manga a lot. The plot was all over the place near the end and the author just couldn't save it and give it a proper ending.

Well this book ended in an interesting way for sure. Yuki does what she's got to do to protect those she loves. I really don't get her and Kaname's relationship at all. Is she related to him or engaged to him or both? They've alternated between the two and it's one of those things I want to know but at the same time probably don't. hah. I'm excited to be almost done. One more book to go! The art has been consistently very good :) On to the last book!

This is a really memorable manga to me.
Five years ago, I saw this really hot drawing of a silver-haired guy with sad eyes on Friendster. I knew nothing about manga and anime and bishies, etc, but when I saw that picture, I knew it would change my life. I didn't know back then what kind of impact it would bring. The changes it brought are not only good, but also bad (my eyesight, for one).
Vampire Knight has changed my life in more ways than any other manga. This is my first manga and anime, and I'm sad to see it end. I will remember this for the rest of my life.
In loving memory of all the Purebloods who were slaughtered in this manga, I will re-read the whole story every May 26th of each year, starting next year, May 26, 2014.
I hope everyone enjoyed this manga as much as I did.

RIP Sara. Wonder why Kaname decided to become the heart of the vampire hunter's weapons. The masquerade was very cool. Hope that Yuki and Zero will be able to make Kaname see reason. Also hope that Zero will be able to remember Yuki again.
Can't wait to read Vampire Knight volume 19!!!!

Das Ende war toll! Und ich bin so froh über die Zero-Yuki-Beziehung! Ich finde übrigens gar nicht, dass der Manga sich in die Länge zieht. Ich finde die Länger ziemlich perfekt. Nur noch ein Band. Ich bin mege gespannt!

Vampire Knight... Well, what can I say? The first four-ish volumes were INCREDIBLE! 5 billion stars. I read/watched them while I was a young child (well, I was like 12) and was all like, "OMG!! So amazing~!! Vampire is so beautiful and amazing and perfection and alskdfj;asl" I still kinda feel that way (about the Hiou Shizuka arc, anyway). The next ones? Well... after mindlessly wandering around doing nothing for volumes, it comes to this:

I don't like the last chapter, like, at all. I don't get it, no one at the end got what they wanted. Not Zero, not Yuuki and definitely NOT Kaname. I don't know why Miss Hino ended the series and why she ended that way, but I'm disappointed how the last chapter tells us nothing :/ I usually like the unpredictability but in this case, it just sucks :(

"You look a lot like a girl who died a year ago. She meant a lot to me."What a well-done scene. As in all literature, a masquerade is a great place for emotional masks to come off. I knew that coming in, but it still got close to bringing a tear to my eye for what could have been between these two. (Being on team Zero did its bit there, too.) A scene later on, where Yuki and Zero on are either side of a door, shows us that these two are back to their rather repressed usual.
"...and you look a lot like a boy I worried about and wanted to protect, but ended up hurting instead. But you couldn't be him. He'd never dance with a vampire."
As has happened throughout the series, a new element--Kaname making a move toward being human, and Yuki also saying she intends to make him human--is introduced without enough establishing context for it to make any sense to me. Why is Zero losing his memories of Yuki important to that goal? As is, yanking on the heartstrings of the reader seems more crucial to the scene than to whatever is motivating the characters.
Like many three-star series, I see the potential for something much better here, but even in this second-last volume before the end, it still isn't... quite... managing it.

I really don't understand Yuki's and Kaname's relationship at all. Is she related to him or engaged to him or both or nothing? They kinda have been alternating between these two states. To be honest, I feel like this is one of those things that I want to know, while at the same being a thing that I probably don't ACTUALLY want to know... If you get what I'm trying to say...

I am glad that my suspicious about Kaname were right from pretty much the beginning. He was giving creepy and stalkerish vibes, while treating Yuki as a possession and never an equal.
Feels like Kaname used everybody, however, I still enjoyed his character because without him it would have been even more flat and boring.

Non sono pronta a lasciare Yuki, Kaname, Zero e gli altri. Non posso credere che il prossimo volume sia l'ultimo. Sono veramente curiosa di sapere come finirà. Il finale di questo volume mi ha lasciata spiazzata.... Yuki farebbe di tutto per le persone che ama. Ma ho ancora tantissime domande!

What an amazing story!!!!
Wow, I can't believe this story finally reaches its end. I start reading this story when I was in year 2 of my junior high. And now, I am in my junior year in college. What a long time...
I love the ending, even though I'm a bit mad of how Kaname died. Why is he so selfless???? But Zero is always there for Yuuki, so it's okay. Waahhhh, I want to know the name of Zero's and Yuuki's children!!!! And the elder child, why did she call Kaname her other father??? Is Kaname her real father??? Aahh, I want to know the story clearly. Until the end, Hino Matsuri still keeps a lot of secret about her vampires from us!!!!

The artwork is as awesome as always, but the plot...is driving me mad.
So the evil female vampire did all the bad stuff because she wanted to be Queen? Oh my goodness...
So one of the male leads' true goal What's the point of it?
The other male lead is slightly better as a character, but still...for half of the time I don't know what he's doing...I don't understand why he did certain things and make certain decisions.
And the love triangle...I HATE LOVE TRIANGLES!
*sighs* But I'll still read the last volume.

E poi, che gli salta in mente a Yuki di cancellare la memoria di Zero?! E com'è che lei potrebbe diventare umana e Zero no.
Vediamo il volume diciannove. E poi, addio Hino-sensei.

Synopsis: Yuki Cross has no memory of her past prior to the moment she was saved from a vampire attack ten years ago. She was adopted by the headmaster of Cross Academy, and now works alongside Zero to guard the Academy's secret. Cross Academy is attended by two groups of students: the Day Class and the Night Class. At twilight, when the students of the Day Class return to their dorm, they cross paths with the Night Class on their way to school. Yuki Cross and Zero Kiryu are the Guardians of the school, protecting the Day Class from the Academy's dark secret: the Night Class is full of vampires.
Review: The opening chapters are little cliche, but the story quickly builds up to a rapid spiral of drama, psychological trauma and vampiric romance that isn't overly lovey-dovey. Yuki is the protagonist, but there's not much to like about her. The driving forces of the series are Yuki's two love interests. The tragic backstory of Zero and his desire for vengeance against a powerful vampire, and the alluring mystery of Kaname and his strange obsession with Yuki carry the plot. Zero and Kaname develop a bit of a rivalry for Yuki's attention that ends up leading to some pretty dramatic stakes and tension.
There are a lot of characters in this series, but only a small handful of them are actually engaging and memorable. Out of the 35 or so characters, only 5 or 6 of them carry the plot on their shoulders; some of which don't even stick around very long. Zero and Kaname are the stars of the show but the story grows rather dull when they're not around. Ichiru and Shizuka were cool but they only made a few appearances.
There is a pretty wicked climax in the middle of the series that really drew me in, but the rest of the series fails to live up to what that climax set up. The characters become less interesting, the plot falls apart and struggles to find a proper pacing and purpose. I really liked the first half of the series, the second half was just passable in my opinion.

Zero and Kaname develop a bit of a rivalry for Yuki's attention that ends up leading to some pretty dramatic stakes and tension.
There are a lot of characters in this series, but only a small handful of them are actually engaging and memorable. Out of the 35 or so characters, only 5 or 6 of them carry the plot on their shoulders; some of which don't even stick around very long. Zero and Kaname are the stars of the show but the story grows rather dull when they're not around. Ichiru and Shizuka were cool but they only made a few appearances.
There is a pretty wicked climax in the middle of the series that really drew me in, but the rest of the series fails to live up to what that climax set up. The characters become less interesting, the plot falls apart and struggles to find a proper pacing and purpose. I really liked the first half of the series, the second half was just passable in my opinion.

The story mainly takes place at the Academy Cross, where the Day Class and Night Class live separately. The latter is made up of vampires students led by Kaname Kuran, a pureblood vampire. The two discipline officers, Zero and Yuki, are the main characters alongside Kaname.
Zero comes from a long line of vampire hunters, the Hunters, and Yuki is the Director's adopted daughter. Their lives are turned upside down when Zero becomes a vampire, Yuki remembers his past, and Kaname reclaims his place as leader by ousting the Vampire Senate. 🌸
Love mingles with war and their story unfolds in ten volumes. The first 5 volumes have been adapted to the screen in two seasons. If the series disappoints a few fans, I also recommend the manga which is really good, funny and exciting with a real turnaround in the last volumes.

Oh my GOD, this series has become such a drag. It never had good pacing, but the story has drawn to an agonizing crawl as we all slowly trek towards the final volume. The author just refused to end the story. Why do that when more volumes mean more money? But the lack of actual content in these volumes is so noticeable I find it surprising people kept buying them.
There is nothing going on. This could have ended five volumes ago at least.
The ending of this volume does decide to pack a punch, but it's less an emotional gut punch and more of a slap to the face. Yuki is a villain. There's no going around that—Yuki is genuinely a horrible person who deserves no sympathy. Her final act in this volume cements that she is selfish, arrogant, and apathetic to everyone around her unless they can further her own goals. Any claim that she is sweet or kind loses all water in this moment, and no, her actions cannot be justified as her "doing what's best for Zero."
If you sincerely agree with her, you are no better than her.
I hate everyone in this horrible story. I'm glad it's nearly over.

Things are beginning to wrap up in this volume. With only one volume left, things really moved quickly in this one. The woman who sacrificed her heart to the fire and forged the vampire hunter weapons has had enough and relinquishes the sacred metal on the Hunter Society Headquarters, killing many, Sara included, in the process. But Yuki saves Artemis from the destruction. Kaname vows to take her place and will sacrifice himself. But then disappears before. Yuki reveals her familiar is a butterfly, so the opposite of Kaname. She and Zero are tender and familiar again and it was kind of cute but disappointing only because it literally came out of nowhere. But now they're determined to hunt down Kaname. And Aido wants answers too.
