Yoshiki Nakamura (仲村佳樹) is a Japanese mangaka. She was born June 17. Nakamura made her manga debut with "Yume de Auyori Suteki" in the manga magazine Hana to Yume in 1993.
Wow I really do like Ren's father. I love how he takes Kyoko under his wing and even welcomes her as his own....well his son which is still awkward but still. It is good for her to have some adult role models. This one we start to focus also on her struggles as she takes on the role of Natsu. To act like Mio but not be Mio. Tricky tricky. It is great to see her striving to move forward though. She is really getting into acting more. I wanted to see the real "Kuon!" Denied!! Teased and then the door is closed on us! Drat! I do not understand why he left his beloved father if the family relationship was so (bizarrely) healthy.
This is the only set of mangas I own. I'm planning to buy the whole set in 3-in-1 version and read it at that pace. I really adore Kyoko. she is so silly and funny. I definitely recommend this manga. :)
This manga focuses on the development of the relationship between Kyoko and Maria with them organising a party to thank the people in their lives. It develops Maria as a character and introduces people she is close with and enables a romantic situation between Kyoko and Ren. The last volume sets up another story arc with Kyoko having trouble in her new role with a director which doesn't like her acting and cast members wanting to see her fall. I am really intrigued to see where the story will go next, and I would recommend this series.
Lots of different storylines in this omnibus which can feel a bit disjointed but that's the downside of not reading individual volumes.
I had moments I laughed out loud. Kyoko really likes some gaudy stuff and Moko is such a good person who really doesn't want to be. Hilarious.
It is going into bullying territory and I'm actually a bit anxious about how that's going to play out. Teenagers are brutal and I have this idea that teenagers in the entertainment industry are a bit more brutal.
Vol 19: What a lovely way to wrap up Koo and Kuon's arc. Koo is a great Dad and the final section made me tear up! I love this series so much!
Vol 20: This was an adorable volume! I love this found family so much, ugh, my heart is full. 🥰
Vol 21: I really dislike the new director. "Don't be Mio, but why can't you just be Mio." Kyoko comes up with her own solutions, and I'm so happy she reaches out to Ren and others for help now! Are we about to see another villain turned friend or is this vile competitor going to ruin herself trying to take our girl down?
Volume 20 has the happiest story arc of the manga so far, and it was delightful.
The story in volume 19, with the mentors, showed a lot of potential for character growth. It will be interesting to see how that impacts Kyoko as she progresses in her career.
And can she progress in her career? There's a bit of a question there as volume 21 ends. Onward to the next omnibus!
SERIES REVIEW: (Side note - I have read more than what's official by reading translated online scans, as such my view may be a bit biased based on further plot developments.) Skip Beat is possibly the best shoujo I have ever read! While the art style may throw newer readers off as it is very 90's/early 2000's do NOT let it keep you from giving this manga a try! The characters and plot more than make up for any lacking art. Kyoko is my favorite protagonist I have ever read - book or manga. This is not your typical shoujo by any means. It has romance but focuses more on Kyoko's growth as an individual as well as her determination to find herself. The other characters are not left behind either. They are also constantly growing and changing in different ways giving off such a vibrant and realistic vibe (well mostly realistic-if you have read it you know what I mean) If you are looking for romance, comedy, a shoujo with depth this is the one. While at times the slower romance pace is frustrating the pay offs make it worth it. Instead of a cheap fix so many shoujo manga are doing this is a slow burning master piece. I really cannot give this series enough praise and everyone - shoujo fan or not, manga fan or not - needs to give it a try!
In this book of Skip Beat! it seems like some of Ren and Kyoko's friends are trying to set them. However, Kyoko is still struggling with her feelings and her acting stuff. Ren on the other hand can't seem to figure out how to confront her about it.
This one was another great addition to this series. I loved Kyoko and Ren together. And I really enjoyed how Kyoko was still trying to impress "father" it was really great! I cannot wait for the next one!
Love! Love! Love! There are so much to say of what I love about this series, and what happens in this volume. Seriously! I cannot but I won't because my words will end up in a fangirlish screaming fest. That's why. This volume brought out so much feels, both laughter and emotional tears, that I was a blubbering mess. Wow. So much feels. Read this series. It is so worth it!!!!!!!
I love the Koo arc. I love the Happy Grateful Party. Everyone is so freaking adorable in it, especially Kyoko and Tsuruga's rose, and then Moko's rage about almost missing her birthday. So cute.
I don't like the Natsu arc. It stresses me out so much.
I read this a little too fast in my opinion. It was funny and I could not help sharing the story line with my friend who needed to learn a lot about manga, fast.
Another great volume. In this volume Kyoko begins her next step into becoming a actress. However it is not going so well. She still can't get into her role. When she finally starts to fine a connection the director only wants Mio. I cannot wait to see how she overcomes this hurdle.
