Pure Sin #1

Deceptive Innocence

Rate this book
Kyra Davis, the New York Times bestselling author of Just One Night, returns with book one in the thrillingly erotic Pure Sin series featuring a beautiful young woman out for revenge—until she falls in love with the one man whose secrets are as dangerous as her own.

Ever since Bell’s mother died while serving time for a murder she didn’t commit, Bell’s been focused on one thing: revenge. She knows her mother was set up by Jonathon Gable, the head of both the powerful Gable family and an international banking corporation. Now she’s determined to take him down—from the inside.

Bell needs access to the Gable home and offices, so she poses as a bartender to seduce her way into the bed—and life—of Jonathon’s rebellious youngest son, Lander. He’s not a typical Gable, spending more time in the dive bars of Harlem than the posh cocktail lounges of the Upper East Side. He has an attraction to danger, a vulnerability Bell isn’t shy about exploiting. It should be easy to uncover the secrets she needs to destroy his family and clear her mother’s name.

But it turns out Lander is much more complicated than she ever imagined. He’s enticing, intelligent, mysterious—plus their sexual chemistry is off the charts. Even though Bell knows he’s the enemy, she can’t help but be moved, both physically and emotionally, by the man she swore was just a target. When he finds out the truth she’s sure both their hearts and her plan will be crushed...until she begins to realize that Lander might be hiding his own secrets, darker than she ever imagined.

Without revenge and vengeance- without war- what's left of me?

Are you a fan of the TV show Revenge ? Do you enjoy reading books with similar themes? Then, come and meet Deceptive Innocence (Pure Sin, #1) by Kyra Davis.

Dark, gripping, suspenseful & emotional mindfuck.

description

There are 4 leading players in this mindfuck:

~ Bellona Dantes a.k.a Bell
is the main character of this series and the story is told from her pov. She and her single mother led a peaceful, normal life until one horrible event that took place when she was only 12 years old. That incident turned her life upside down and had a major impact on the person she became today- strong, intelligent, calculated and merciless for everyone who ruined the life of the innocent child she once was.

I really liked Bell as a MC. Some issues aside, she was the type of the character I prefer reading about. She is far from perfect, but I was touched by her story and cheering for her to make them pay from the page 1 and I think that every reader will.

~ Lander Gable is Bell's love interest and also the person who may or may not had his fingers in the incident that ruined her life. The readers will be in the dark through most of the story about Lander's potential guilt. What hides behind his poker face? Is he a trustworthy person? What are his true feelings for Bell? I'm still undecided about him. The chemistry between them was off the charts and resulted in some pretty steamy scenes.

“My beautiful warrior.” He gently lifts my chin. “You’re mesmerizing.”
“Yeah? Well. you’re going to have to come out of your trance,” I uncurl the belt, swing it over the wide part of his back, use it to pull him to me. “I want you now.”

~ Travis Gable is Lander's step-brother and in his case the readers won't have problem with figuring his character out. Manipulative, cruel, aggressive, ruthless. A true psychopath.

~ Micah is a mob boss and Bell's frenemy- it remains to be seen. Just like Travis, this guy scared the crap out of me. With Travis at least you know what to expect, but this guy is totally another story. Is he there to protect Bell or is he another person to add on her black list? We'll just have to wait and see.

Everything starts out as a game of revenge, but can you truly win without any loss in a game whose rules are based on secrets, lies and deceit? When the poker faces start falling down who'll be the last one standing?

~ Negative:

~ I would have preferred if the romance was more slow-building or to be more exact- I felt that Bell fell too quickly for Lander even if she tried so hard not to and therefore made excuses for him even when she didn't know him that well or long enough.

~ A few details of the plot reminded me on the TV show. I don't know if that's coincidence or not or if the author was inspired by that show. It didn't spoiled the story for me, but I hope she'll develop the story in her own, unique way.

Throughout the story my rating was changing between 3.5 and 4 stars, but the awesome ending decided it on 4 stars. All in all, this was a promising beginning to the new book series! I have huge hope for book 2!

Recommended to the fans of suspenseful mindfucks with a kickass heroine and fans of the TV show Revenge.

Being with him like this shouldn't feel this powerful. I've forgotten who I am. Maybe that was inevitable. But I shouldn't forget who he is.

Really enjoyed this one. Despite stopping a quarter in for another book release I was anticipating, it didn't make it lose momentum when I got back to it.

The story was hot, and suspenseful and it had me intrigued throughout.

After Belle's mom is framed for murder and wrongfully convicted for a crime she didn't do, she commits suicide while in jail. Belle grows up from foster home to foster home, and after much investigating, she decides to take revenge on the men that framed her mom for murder. The men she thinks are involved in this are the Gable, Jonathon Gable and his two sons Travis and Lander. A powerful family owners of a bank institution.

Belle starts her set-up by getting close to Lander, as well as getting a job as an assistant for Travis and his wife. Of course, Lander is very diffeerent than she expected and they develop a strong chemistry. But he is also keeping some secrets.

Really liked Belle's character, she was far from perfect, but at the same time pretty badass in a likable way and not cocky annoying way, She was also endearing I felt for her and everything she's gone through. It made me root for her.

My main complaint, is a reaction of Belle towards the end after a big revelation. I can see where the author is taking the story, but I think I would've liked it more if things moved a bit different there.

Still, enjoyable and definitely reading the next book very soon.

I absolutely loved everything about this. Fantastically twisted and passionate! I could not stop reading! Seriously addicting as I absorbed all the details.

It's not very often that a plot is so unexpected, it actually catches me by surprise. I loved it! It started out super intriguing and hot. It had this incredible build with a mysterious vibe throughout that had me on the edge of my seat. I was anxious and holding my breath and at times even laughing.

The characters really captivated me. Bell had a very specific agenda and her need for revenge and retribution completely fascinated me. It was just this intricate yet diabolical plan and I was blown away by all the different layers. I loved Lander, he was so complex and seemed to have his own agenda as well and I had so many questions about his motivation and what was going on, I couldn't wait for answers. While some were answered, I have a ton more. The two of them were this unique and perfect pairing. Two of a kind. I loved their passion, it could be raw and intense!

There are so many different players and so much going on, all these different power plays seemed to be happening. Something new would happen and I would think, “this is so messed up but it’s awesome!” I just found it all really thrilling! I loved the development and the subtlety of learning the back story's of everyone's deception and deceit. It was just all so well thought out.

The ending was intense and while there is some closure, the story is far from over so be prepared for a cliffhanger. The next book, Dangerous Alliance, is out now so you can jump right into it, that's what I'm going to do. I'm dying for the conclusion.

This was just freaking fantastic! Loved it so much! A must read!!!

Review of First Reads Goodreads giveaway.

Really, this book gets about 2.5 stars.
I've been a big Kyra Davis fan from way back. Sometimes she hits it right on, and sometimes she doesn't.

This book started out awesomely. There was mystery, anger, intrigue, and yes, sex. She doesn't reveal the whole story up front, so the plot kept me guessing (in a good way) for much of the first novella (3 included in this volume).

Maybe what threw me off was reading this miniseries as a novel. The story was good, but it dragged. Horror of horrors, I ended up skipping the sex scenes just to get on with the story. Maybe erotica isn't for me because I got a little tired of every scene involving X and Y character ending with them doing the deed. Perhaps it's because there's only so many ways of describing said deed: usually two or three encounters in a full-length novel is enough to keep things hot, and not overstated.

I wanted to like this book much more than I did. The characters ran dangerously close to being one-dimensional (especially Travis and his wife - smacked of "these people are evil and we hate them. Here's why!"). The plot was predictable, even down to . Open for a sequel, for sure (which I understand is forthcoming).

Davis' writing is quick and easy, great for getting lost in when you're not flipping forward to see when something's going to wrap.

With all of the work up in my head from the previous book of romance and hot guys, I was expecting a book along those lines. I was a bit surprised to find that this book runs more along the dark side – with revenge fueling the storyline. But that is not a bad thing! This story is loaded with mystery, intrigue and who-dun-it parts along with characters you would not want to meet in a dark alley… the heroine included!

The writing is strong and the story is very well written with plenty of twists and turns. I had a hard time keeping up with everything that was going on myself! Yes, there is romance and plenty of steamy parts but Bell uses it to get to know Lander and keep him close for the ultimate revenge. Keeping track of who is doing what to whom and setting up traps for the down fall is what is important in this story.

I enjoyed the different writing style of this book once I got into it. And you do need to focus on the story to keep track of everything but it is a great read that leaves room for another book to follow. Of course, I have to read that one too! Kyra Davis is one author that I follow and enjoy reading whatever she puts out.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review in full on Two Classy Chics

This is the beginning of Adoncia's quest for revenge for all that happened to her mother. Years of study and preparation have led her to Lander Gable, but will her anger and desire for revenge against the Gable family keep her heart safe? Especially from the increasing feelings she has for Lander?

Spicy lovemaking makes for a squirm-worthy read.

Read this one first to enjoy the unveiling of the story...having done the reverse, some of the magic was lost, but the story is still fun.

Bellona Dantes is seeking revenge for her mother jailed for the death of the rich financier she was having an affair with. Bell, at the time, was a young teenager absorbed into the foster care system. Now as a twentysomething, she’s created a formula to bring down the Gables: the family who she’s convinced covered up the murder of their colleague by implicating her mother, who later committed suicide in jail.
The story starts with Bell as a bartender at a questionable bar where she knows Lander Gable frequents. They fall in a lusty affair that may be love as she becomes conflicted with bringing him down with his brother Travis; sister-in-law Jessica, who she’s a personal assistant to; and their father Edmund for what they did to her mother.
Sorta spoiler: The actual revenge continues in the next book I have yet to read, but this novel is mostly Bell and Lander sex scenes with Bell getting a feel for all her targets. Lander even buys her a formal dress for Jessica’s fundraiser toward the end, and it sounds like an event with fireworks, but it doesn’t happen in these pages.
Overall, it’s a sophisticated chick lit thriller that’s well-written with a not-too-complicated plot. In first person voice, Bell goes back and forth constantly in questioning her feelings for Lander. It comes off as annoying at first but could be realistic when mixing love and revenge.

Seguimos?

Deceptive Innocence by Kyra Davis is the beginning of one woman’s obsessive need for vengeance. She is demanding to have justice for the wrong doings that tore her family and life to shreds. She has declared war on the Gable family. She is going to destroy these men the way they destroyed her life. She has studied her foes. She has educated and trained to infiltrate their world. She has carefully plotted her vengeance. She is ready.

Belle’s mother was wrongfully convicted of murdering her lover. Her lover was a wealthy and powerful married man. Belle believes that the Gable family is responsible for framing her mother. After her mother commits suicide in prison, Belle begins the course of revenge for her death. She has targeted the Gable sons as a way to get to their father.

She takes a job as Travis Gable’s PA. She begins her destruction of his family from within as the role of the trusted assistant. She is also secretly dating his brother, Lander Gable. Lander does not want Belle working for his brother. She can sense a hidden tension between the brothers. This tension is will feed into her plan for her revenge.

She becomes involved with Lander Gable. He is quite different than her initial impression she had from her research. He has an air of mystery and hidden secrets. He records some of his secrets through caricature art and wordplay in his journal. He fights likes he comes from the streets. He makes love like Valentino. He lives two very different kinds of lives. He has a secret as well. He wants vengeance against his family for different reasons.

Is their enemy the same? Will these two be able to hang onto the relationship they have started? When the big reveal comes it will leave the readers anticipating the next book. It is a major cliffhanger.

Deceptive Innocence was loaded with mystery, intrigue, passion, and smoking hot love scenes. It built a story that captured the reader’s full attention. The pacing was perfect. The characters were intriguing. I can’t wait to read Dangerous Alliance, book 2 in the Pure Sin Series.

Deceptive Innocence is one of those stories that have you guessing almost the whole way through. A story of revenge and the aggression that comes with.

Entwined with erotic sexual encounters with see the lust and attraction that builds with the main character and her desire for the enemy.

In all parts we are shown Young Bells determination to pay back the family who destroyed her mother and caused her death. Along the way we see her motivation, but upon meeting Lander - her heart and mind are confused. This leaves her in trouble – her heart tells her one thing – her revenge and plans conflicted.

Lander is like cotton candy - very sweet, enticing, smart, and the chemistry between them is certainly sizzling and steamy .. Bell knows he is the enemy but both emotionally and physically is like a magnet.. I really loved his sexy character ( waggles eyebrows)

The author delivers us suspense and mystery within the pages, sex for all those who enjoy a steamy read and certainly room for thought and intrigue with the story line that is delivered.

. As a reader I was kept strung along to find out where the story was headed. I like unpredictable and it was certainly that.

What started out as a three part series - it has since been written into one book. I enjoyed all .
I enjoy this authors writing style including the quality and depth she puts into her characters. The emotions put forth show us the depths of the characters revenge. You can certainly relate to her on so many levels.
The sex scenes were smoking hot – being a lover of erotica and sexy reads the author certainly coat our pallet with goodness... (Grins)

There is a lot going on with this story – but the ending I felt was a little left to be desired and still am curious if there will be another book. I didn’t find that the ending was as well delivered as I would have liked. But saying this I did enjoy the story.

Overall – I enjoyed the plot and story line, the characters were well delivered and the sexy stuff certainly sexaliscious. !

An author I certainly will continue to read .

Deceptive innocence
Part 1.
A deceptively erotic fantasy of revenge and aggression for familial deprivation is thwarted by sexual attraction and attention. She has a plan, but she did not plan on being attracted to one of the three people she planned to destroy to avenge her mothers arrest, trial, and suicide. The reader is snowed by her lust and desire, as she attempts to change her attraction and continue in her plot of revenge. Very erotic fantasy sexual encounters arouse the reader as the main character is lost in the attraction of her lust....
Part 2
A dark look into revenge, this is the second in a series of books detailing an elaborate revenge scenario . Young Bell, as she is presented to us in the first part is desperately wanting to pay back the family that destroyed and eventually caused her mothers death. She was left orphaned long before her mother committed suicide in jail. After finding out that her mother was set up Bell, has trained and learned all she can on the outside, she has now entered the world of the wealthy elite that destroyed her mother. She has found a weak link and exploited the younger child of the man who set up her mother. but she finds her attraction a distraction at best, she is self motivated, and does not want to owe any favors even though she has criminal links that could possibly be more ruthless than herself, can she follow through with her plan or will the younger son change her mind?
Part 3
This final 100 page chapter of the book, third in the series, is the most dynamic of all. Bell has struggled so far and so hard to destroy the family that killed her mother. The end of book two left her in trouble with the local gangsters, and their desire to protect the family. Can Bell survive her revenge, can she put the pieces of her plan back together to have the final product of destroying the wealthy family without forfeiting her life to her gangster neighbors. Worse of all she has come to admit she loves Lander, the youngest son of this deadly family. How will she balance her revenge, her love, and her life?

I'm not sure we've ever reviewed 2 books at once, but the Pure Sin series reads like one long book. I really could not put them down, so in a rush to find out the truth. Kyra Davis is a master at creating tension, both of the suspenseful and erotic varieties. Davis also creates phenomenal, complex characters, no caricatures of good and evil. All of the players in Deceptive Innocence and Dangerous Alliance are nuanced. Bell Dantés (even that name has layers) may seem like the cold femme fatale, but the conscience she thinks she no longer has keeps coming back when she least wants it to. Lander isn't simply the perfect guy either. He's a Gable in many ways like the ones Bell has come to hate, with ambitions and plans of his own. You never know if you or Bell can really trust him.

Even the real villain, Travis, has weaknesses of the heart when you'd think a man like that has no heart at all. But, Jessica, Travis' wife is probably the most complex of all - a liar, a loving mother, a social climber, but smarter than the drunk, socialite wife persona she allows the world to see.

Bell's plot to avenge her mother at times feels like a metaphor for bringing down the 1%, Wall Street, and gentrifiers that the Gables, even Lander, represent. And unfortunately, the bad guys may get knocked down, but not out. A lesson our heroine Bell had to learn the hard way, and one that parallels the real world of bail outs and ponzie schemers.

I received a copy of this book free through First Reads in exchange for an honest review.

So I'm giving this book three stars because I can't do half star reviews. Technically I give this book 2.5 stars. I wanted to love this book. And I think if I were to base this on the storyline alone, it would have gotten a full three stars. But the books are riddled with what I considered unnecessary sexy scenes. I was mostly interested in the story when it dealt with her revenge tactics. The book picked up speed when Bell was at her vengeful worst.

The ending is another issue altogether for me. I noticed by the time I was close to the end that it didn't seem as if a worthwhile resolution would come in the pages left. And sure enough, I was correct. We're left wondering what kind of plan the two lovebirds would come up together. The issue with Micah is never actually resolved nor do we see Travis pay for what he's put everyone through. All in all, not a great ending

This probably won't stop me from reading any other books by this author but i will be adding her to my list of authors I won't be keepin up with too much.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

- The hero’s brother watched the heroine fuck the hero (on video) and stayed making multiple comments about her orgasming, how the hero was fucking her raw, etc. Um okay I guess.
- Every man the heroine encounters is groping her ass or something sexual🙄 (Including the hero’s brother of course)
- The hero lets the delivery man see the heroine naked and invites him in when they’re fucking. Is the possessiveness in the room with us?
- OTHER male characters make comments about threesomes or foursomes with her because again..of course.
- The heroine lets the hero’s driver watch her fuck the hero. And thinks about how the driver has seen her face while she orgasms.
- The hero and heroine talk about his own brother in the middle of having sex??

HELL NAH! Technically there’s no “sharing” or whatever but I hate it. There’s also tons of boring smut to the point that I started skipping the scenes entirely. It felt excessive like the author was trying to make this erotic and sexy and it flopped.

I really don't like books based on revenge, but this book was BRILLIANT! i was just simply superb, with the main heroin a calculating, mischievous and simply good. Good at being bad that is. She is a 'the goddess of war' as her nick name Bellona suggests.

Kyra Davis surely knows who to write a book, because not only is the story entertains as well as intriguing, it was well writing, which is seriously a relief. The way the sentences form, or something or someone is described, it's just done in a way that you can feel the intelligence of the author, and of the main protagonist who is a calculating and smart woman on the search of revenge for the death of her mother.

Of course things don't go as planned; no matter how much detail you gain, once your inside enemy lines, nothing can really prepare you for what you will find. So Bell didn't intend to find love with Lander who was initially her target.

I eagerly await to see the story unfold in her next book!

Please don't judge a book by it's title, corny as it may be.

But alas, this is what I've been looking for. I've been trying to find a story about a heroine who is a total badass. Like take no prisoners badass. Like hell hath no fury badass. Like she will rip you in pieces and enjoy every moment badass.

Even when I find similar books, the girl always becomes a whim as soon as she meets the guy. But "Bell" wasn't any such girl. There are so many twists and turns in this story that you'll be on the edge of your seat until the very last word of the novel.

The only thing I could've lived without is the fact they were having sex almost every few pages. Yeah one or two steamy scenes are great (and Kyra Davis knows steamy!!), but after the 2nd one (happening before I'd even finished 30% of the book) I just started to skim them over.

So yes. Definitely read this if you want a solid, strong female. Though definitely no angel, you'll be rooting for her all the way!!

I got this book from the library, and was truly surprised by how well written this book was. And kept me on my toes. This is the first book I have read by: Kyra Davis. Deceptive Innocence, has it all. Money Murder Sex and Betrayal. I won't give away any details to anyone who is planing on reading this fantastic novel. Just this Bell is a mysterious women who has a agenda. Lander Gable, who is a sexy powerful playboy who also has a hidden agenda of his own. When Bell and Lander come together the sexual attraction is off the charts. They make a power pair together, or do they? Who will win? Who will lose? But # 1. Who will Die? I was ready for book # 2. And so will you.!! Read this book and Enjoy!!

New to me author Kyra Davis in an erotic revenge story. Bell lost her mother to a murder charge and before she could prove her innocence her mother is lost to her forever. She knows who set her mother up, she just needs to find out how to bring them down. To begin she needs to get close to the Gable family and knows her way in is with the youngest son, Lander. Except her revenge becomes a little skewed as her feelings begin to change from hate to something close to love. But will Bell be able to find the revenge for her mother and keep her heart in tact? A very well crafted story from Ms. Davis, not necessarily my cup of tea. I'm not a big fan of revenge being the plot moving the story along, but it was a well written steamy story. Intrigued to see where the story goes from here.

This novel is a compilation of a series of three previously published novellas. Bell and Lander are a compelling pair, and I was quickly sucked into the story. The plot is full of intrigue and suspenseful twists and turns, combined with steamy and erotic love scenes. Bell has a long and complicated road to get her revenge. The twists really keep the reader guessing all through the novel right up to the surprising and satisfying ending.

I just finished reading this book and I feel somewhat confused. I was really expecting for a bigger reaction from Belle at the big revelation. I mean after all than she just accepts his word like that without question?
I really liked the story and it had me holding my breath till the end, guessing who was the biggest liar but the last part just let me down!
So weak and anticlimactic! (No pun intended!) lol

Maybe once I read the sequel I'll feel different about it but right now I'm not happy!

I feel like it was a truly long story. Bellona was only described physically once in the novel. She was able to easily blend into the upper crust circles of the Gable brothers though. There were intense love scenes between she and Lander that softened her resolve to inflict revenge for the suicide of her Mother. There were some gangster affiliations that weren't truly explained. It has to be a part two but this one left me unsatisfied at the end.

I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The battle between good and evil is always a struggle when you find someone you can identify with. Bell has found that with Lander. You want to root for her to see the light so many time throughout the book but also never to lose sight of herself that I found myself even failing with the battle of good and evil. Excited to see what's next for them and if they truly can find the balance with each other.

Kyra Davis has a great way of weaving a great story within a story. That is what she has done here. I am love with Lander and her heroine, as always, is a strong independent woman who you instantly like. I am so excited to read the next installment. It was a little slow moving at times, but the end is so full of action and information, it will blow your mind. Bravo Kyra!!

It is a story of revenge full of twists, with complex and compelling characters, that really captivated me. All questions will be answered in the sequel "dangerous alliance". I loved this book so much !
