Kathryn Lasky was one of my favorite authors as a kid. I remember constantly checking her spot on the shelf (I could probably find the same spot in my local library today) to see if any new installments had been added.

This is the first series I remember loving. I really don't know why. It's about owls. But that really does not do the series justice. I remember the most vivid images: brainwashed trainees walking silently in a circle; a wise female owl who lives in a vast tree lit with golden light; an evil owl with one eye; "colliers", owls who forged something; winged travels by night; a desert owl character; courage, psychological thrill, politics, war, ethics, and everything epic all wrapped up into the most well-developed plot. Recommend for any 12-year-old looking to spend their time well.

I love this series. The movie didn't do it justice, though it was gorgeous in its own way too. The universe is unique and amazing. The lore is solid, the characters gorgeous and individual. I love these books and I will never give them away, ever.

Somehow a book about owls became one of my most cherished reads. The world illustrated in this book is incredible and each page wanted me to read on.

Starts off really strong, but after the fourth or fifth book, the quality and creativity really diminishes. The owl-language fake swearing gets pretty out of hand, too.

J'ai lu 15 tomes de hibou et de chouettes quand j'étais gamin ?... Bizarrement, je me rappelle avoir aimé ça.

This book hasn't been long on the shelf - an omnibus of the first three Guardians of Ga'hoole books, released as a tie-in to the Zack Snyder film.

It's possible that halfway through the first book you'll be thinking "Watership Down with owls," though the plot is a pretty faithful map of the Hero's Journey.

The series is about a zillion books long at this point, and boasts a couple of spinoffs. I'll probably look up more, as soon as my own to-do list isn't so...intimidating.

Nice tween fantasy. Not for struggling readers though, lots of made up words specific to the series which would confuse kids who are having issues with vocabulary. Lots of action.
