Jamallah Bergman first started to write small stories when she was around 13. It wasn't until she was around 15 when she started to write about romance after she read her first romantic novel. It wasn't until she got older when she started to write erotica as well.
Jamallah writes about heroines who are full figured women since the fact that whenever she would read some of the stories she liked so much, she always wondered why there weren't many women like herself as the main character. So she started to write about heroines such as herself, full figured women who only wanted to be loved and show their love to the right man.
In Ms. Bergman's spare time when she isn't writing, she enjoys cooking and collecting cookbooks as well as Cobalt Blue Glass items.
She resides in Atlanta Georgia with her teenage daughter who is very artistic as well and loves draw and make little movies as well.
Constant Surprises is definitely the right name for this novel. Just when you think you know how the story will go, you get thrown for a loop! Aimee is a biracial Asian/Black woman that was raised by a loving White family in a racist rural town in Kansas. Her friend and crush is Roy. Roy has had a crush on Aimee since they were children. His family loves Aimee and Roy’s sister is Aimee’s best friend.
Right before Aimee starts her chef training in France, she and Roy have a falling out at her going away party/ high school graduation party. The two make up and discover their shared love for each other. However, the new long distance relationship fizzled out. Roy and Aimee went on with their separate lives.
Fast forward 10 years, and the two return home to Kansas at the same time. Aimee has since become a famous chef and owner of an Atlanta restaurant. Roy had worked construction in Chicago. He plans to start a farm in their hometown. The two meet up as friends. However, they still have a strong attraction for each other.
The surprise comes when Aimee shows Roy that she is not the same quiet and timid girl he used to know. France taught her more than culinary arts! Aimee is a dominatrix, and she gives Roy surprise after surprise! She used her “power” as a dominatrix to help her overcome her past as a victim of racism and school bullying.
The ending was shocking to me, but satisfying for these characters. Other characters are invited to join Roy and Aimee in their BDSM relationship. I felt like this took away from the connection I had with the two main characters. I am more traditional. However, if you like to read about “non monogamous” relationships, this would be a fun story to read.
