How we got this book: ARC from the author

Do you believe in dragons? Werewolf cop Rick Lupone would say no . . . until a dying faerie tells him the fate of his city depends on him. If he can’t protect a mysterious woman in peril, everything may be lost. The only discovery more shocking is that the woman he’s meant to save is his high school crush, Cass Maycee.

Half fae Cass didn’t earn her Snow White nickname by chance. All her life, her refusal to abuse fae glamour kept men like Rick at arm’s length. Now something new is waking up inside her, a secret heritage her pureblood father kept her in the dark about. Letting it out might kill her, but keeping it hidden is no longer an option. The dragons’ ancient enemies are moving. If they find the prize before Rick and Cass, the supe-friendly city of Resurrection just might cease to exist.

E: When I got a note from Holly letting me know about Hidden Dragons I had to say. I mean the combination of Holly, dragons, and her Hidden world and I couldn’t resist. As I have said previously I have enjoyed Holly’s writing for a very long time. I followed her from traditional to self-publishing and continue to have the same level of enjoyment. It is evident that she puts a lot of time and effort into ensuring that the published book is a very high quality and I appreciate that. It allows me to sink into the world, story, and characters without becoming distracted by administrative errors. Hidden Dragons goes back to Resurrection and the werewolf police team that started this series. I have enjoyed the different personalities within the pack and how they are slowly finding rather unusual partners. In this particular story a long hidden high school crush gets the opportunity to bloom under dangerous conditions.

Has: I love the Hidden world, the characters and world-building that Holly created is rich and imaginative. So I also felt the same way when I heard that dragons were going to be featured in the next installment in this series. And oh how they added a fantastic tone to the story as well as highlighted the more fantasy elements of the series which was more paranormal in feel.

The main couple, were also great! I loved that we got to see more of the Lupone brothers and Rick who is the main hero in this book really shines as the beta cop who finds himself protecting his high-school crush. While Cass who also reciprocated his feelings during school is a fun and intelligent heroine and I loved the moment when they both realised their feelings for each other which was very sexy and sweet. Emma Holly has a real gift with sensual scenes and the romantic tension between Cass and Rick was fantastic!

E: Watching the unfolding of their relationship especially the realization that each had admired the other was a lot of fun. I also found myself intrigued by the mixture of legend, children’s tv/fairy tales, and what was actually happening. Holly also put an interesting twist on the dangers or benefits of accepting a gift from the fae. I thought Rick did a great job as a Beta hero by demonstrating the caring and also tenacious aspects of his personality. He was strong enough to protect but felt no need to have the monopoly on good ideas. At the same time he wasn’t going to let Cass get away with ignorance and refusing to acknowledge that she knew the answers to their problems.

Cass was also an intriguing character. She had several other half-Fae friends that she was close to but she avoided any emotional or other entanglements with men. And yet despite that closeness she spent most of her adult life away from Resurrection, her home. She also never pushed her father for information or to involve himself more in her life. However, one of the things I didn’t like about her was that when she was stressed, she defaulted to using her fae glamour or power. The same power she used as an excuse to stay away from men. I am going to talk about that a little more later because I think it was an important plot thread.

Has: I really like the emphasis and the details that Emma Holly gave to the reader, especially with the mythology of the fae such as lying which Cass experienced a backlash everytime she lied to herself or to others. The little details like this really cemented the world-building for me. And I liked that we learn more about the fae because in previous books, the fae were a race which appeared to be mysterious and enigmatic and I loved that we got more insight into their race and their origins in Resurrection.

I really like Rick, because he was in the sense, a true protector without any of the alphaholish characteristics but I find that most of Holly’s characters especially her heroes, are more likable and well developed. I think for me, I wished there was more of a buildup to their realisation of their feelings and I would like to have seen more of their feelings before they commenced with their relationship because it was a bit sudden.

I think with the way Cass dealt with her glamour and fae abilities was true to herself because it was something she used unconsciously. It was not till she was living on the Outside in the human world, she realised the impact and repercussions of her power especially on how she changed her ex-fiance. I thought that was an interesting aspect of her character and how tricky the fae can be. If she was more manipulative and selfish, it would have been a totally different story. I think I found her father’s agenda to be more problematic especially with the way he regarded Cass’ mother and the fallout over that relationship which was a huge price to pay.

E: I agree I loved finding out about the origins of Resurrection and some of the people who lived there. I also understood Cass’ father’s agenda much more because his life, his family’s life was devoted to his particular rule. And he had to do everything he possibly could to fulfill his side of the bargain. Yes, I am deliberately on the vague side here so I don’t spoil a large portion of the book.

I had much more of an issue when after everything Cass and Rick had been through she didn’t have any qualms about threatening to use her fae power on him if he didn’t agree to do what she wanted. For someone who professed to hate use her power on people and knew what it felt like to have someone use their power on her this was a huge shock. I also felt like she completely betrayed the trust that Rick had in her and only when she saw Rick’s reaction and that he had been formulating a plan that would accomplish what she wanted did she seem to understand the gravity of her actions. This struck me as the action of someone who needed to grow up a bit more. I don’t think she properly groveled and regained Ricks trust even though he professed to believe her when she said she had learned her lesson. I still felt that under stress she would revert back to using her power regardless of the consequences.

Has: Oh I definitely agree with you about that aspect of Cass but I do think she had genuine reasons on why she did threaten to use her powers like that. But I liked that this was an interesting source of conflict between them and I think if she ever did do something like this then its a loss of trust and that would have damaged her relationship with Rick. And that would be irreparable. I do think they both realised that towards the end and it was a contrast with her parents and how they dealt with the impact of her father’s abilities. It is not easy to be with a fae who has powers that could glamour and manipulate the people around them. But I do think Cass sees this is important that she cannot rely or even use her powers subconsciously.

E: Holly continues to provide entertaining reads. She also ensured the both the tension and stakes were high and continued to get higher as the story continued. One of my favorite scenes was when Cass decided to set boundaries on what she would and would not allow purebred Fae to do. She seemed to signify that they could no longer look down on and discount what half-Fae could accomplish. As I said earlier I did have some issues with Cass and her lack of groveling along with Rick’s acceptance. Yes, he did stay away from her for a while but I still wanted a stronger resolution. Overall, I enjoyed my visit back to Resurrection and spending time with the werewolf cops. I look forward to Holly’s next installment.

I give Hidden Dragons a B.

Has: I definitely agree that Emma Holly is a solid and entertaining author, and I continue to love each new story in the Hidden universe. While there was some issues with Cass and her father who I suspect might also be in the running for his own story in the future, I found the source of conflict was an interesting conundrum. The world-building was also fantastic and Emma Holly further develops the mythology about the mythical inhabitants in Resurrection. And Hidden Dragons definitely offers a different overtone in this ongoing series, which had a sweet and passionate romance which had great touches of humour!

I also give Hidden Dragons a B!

If you’ve ever wondered how to distinguish the rush of new love from true love, Emma Holly gives us a million clues in her 2013 classic “Hidden Dragons.” And I agree with each and every tidbit she offers. Plus Holly continues her delightfully magical “Hidden” world of fairies and werewolves, elves and other enchantments.

Half-fairy, Cassie Massie, was encouraged by her pure-blood dad to live outside of “The Pocket” (a world in which magical and human entities co-exist) with her human mom when her parents divorced. After all, humans were mortal and their mother/daughter would share limited years. But now that her grandma has died, leaving Cassie as her heir, Cassie returns home, only to discover her father is not who he appears to be.

Investigating a reported sword-fight between two fairies, cop Rick Lupone receives a present, brass knuckles, and a command to “protect” an unknown individual. It quickly proves to be Cassie, his high-school heart throb, a fairy so gorgeous he never dared approach.

Little does he know Cassie pined for him as well back then, but was frightened to approach lest she “glamour” him, a process in which fairies sprinkle lust dust on those they desires, creating the illusion love is returned. As the two come together, their chemistry rockets. (Nnd man, oh man can Ms. Holly write love scenes.) But is it real?

Meanwhile, Rick and Cassie discover her dad missing and learn the dueling fairies were fighting over the fate of “The Pocket.” They must flee and face more powerful, experienced fairies to protect their home and families. Is Cassie and Rick’s love sufficiently genuine to create a trusting team? Outside the influence of the various enchantments they encounter, can their relationship last?

Love is magic, but it is also bewitching and can leave us confused. Ms. Holly does a superb job of capturing the conundrum. Her hero and heroine remain co-equal, their relationship a test of their capacities to grow. In matching her characters’ inner strengths, she captures the ways partner must interact to make their relationships safe and consensual, loving and supportive, interdependent, yet sufficiently independent that both can and must mature.

I’m a psychologist, who doubts I’ve conveyed the elements of healthy love as well as “Hidden Dragons” does. At the same time readers encounter intriguing characters, a fascinating world, an engrossing chase, intimate moments and a riveting plot.

I’d surely recommend “Hidden Dragons” over most of the relationship books I’ve read!

The Romance Review

Dragons, werewolves, fae swirl into a fantasy worth reading! Ms. Holly pens a great story in her Hidden series. I haven't read the previous one and now I must go back and read them. This is one I had to read because I am a dragon lover. Not only do I love dragons, fae are high on my list of supernaturals that I enjoy.

The heroine Cass Maycee reminded me a little bit of Daenerys from the Game of Thrones. The storylines are completely different. However, the raising of dragons from eggs is similar, specifically since Daenerys also has three dragons. This is where the similarity ends, yet it is enough to pull me deeper into this story.

Cass Maycee is a half-breed. She is half fae and half human. In the world she lives in, it is acceptable to a certain degree. She's back in "The Pocket" where humans and supernatural creatures co-exist more or less peacefully. This Pocket was created centuries ago by the pureblooded fae. It's interesting because the prologue almost makes it sound as if this world creation is a mistake which a Queen fae will fix. In current times, it seems the mixed bloods with humans are thriving. They even have their own law enforcement. Rick Lupone who knows Cass from high school is a cop in this world.

The story is wonderfully woven with magic, dueling fae and werewolves to the rescue. Ms. Holly creates a mystical world which makes this human wish she were part of it. It's not too different from the human world except filled with a little more magical oomph. There is more danger yet it seems to be balanced with awe-inspiring wonders.

The characters are endearing, too. Cass is a cast as a poor little rich girl, but she's more than her rich family background. Her nickname Snow White is quite amusing. She does have her Prince Charming moment which wakes her from her deep sleep. This deep sleep is actually her young memories suppressed until she is old enough to deal with it. It feels like a betrayal when many of her youthful experiences finally come to light. It pulls on the heartstrings of the reader learning what was done to her. It's understandable yet no less sad. Rick could have been an arrogant alpha male. Instead, Ms. Holly designates him as a beta wolf, second in command to the alpha male of the wolf pack. He's smart, loyal and protective. All excellent qualities as a police officer, mate and knight in shining armor. His helping Cass is fated and it's a sweet romance in the making.

This story felt as if it were only the first chapter in many. The reader wonders what will happen to the dragons. It's a rich world with many possibilities and one can only hope Ms. Holly will share more stories from this enchanting universe. This fantasy romance is rated 3.5 stars and is recommended for paranormal readers who love happily-ever-afters.

Emma Holly pens another magical addition to her fabulous Hidden series. This world has everything from Fae to werewolves to wereseals to humans. From royalty to blue collar workers. It's filled with humor and drop your panties sex. For me Holly blends the perfect balance of magical and sexual to keep me coming back for more every time!

We are back with the wolves of the RPD, and this time we get more of the sexy Beta Rick Lupone. Rick encounters a full Fae, who right before she dies, tells him he is the protector and gives him this nifty little set of magical brass knuckles (I totally had a Witchblade flashback every time it is mentioned.) Rick isn't sure who the Fae thought he was supposed to protect...but he knows who he hopes it is.

Half-blood Cass has just come back to Resurrection after living on the Outside with her full human mother for the last 20 years. The last person she expected to see on her door step, talking about dragons no less, is her secret high school crush Rick.

The RPD gang is all back in this fourth installment and that includes Grant the gargoyle! While I love the main story, for me the thing that really brings this series to life are the secondary characters and the funny everyday things that happen. Everyone shops at Maycee's and gets their morning caffeine fix from the Star Brew's on the corner.

If you are looking for something lighthearted and full of super smexy sex, then pick up Hidden Dragons...but after you read the other books in the Hidden series of course!

Favorite line: Loving people wasn't just complicated; it was sticky.

In this latest installment of Emma Holly’s Hidden series we find out how Resurrection (that pocket of reality that is part Fairy and part human) came to be. Werewolf cops Rick and Tony Lupone are on the way to work when a call comes in about two pureblood fae fighting with swords. They are closest and take the call. When Rick comes upon one of the fae who is dying she tells him that he has been chosen to protect the woman who is to be the Keeper and his failure to do so might mean the destruction of Resurrection. When he finds out that the woman he is to protect is the half-fae he had a crush on in high school the job doesn't look too bad. Cass Maycee doesn't know what to think when high school hottie now Detective Rick Lupone shows up on her doorstep but she isn't kicking him to the curb either. It appears that Rick and Cass are going to have to solve a mystery and keep the bad guys from unmaking Resurrection and if they fall in love along the way so much the better.

This is an incredible story. Emma Holly always tells a smoking hot tale but she has out done herself this time. She makes this world real and the inhabitants mean something to you. I couldn't put this book down. Watching Rick and Cass learn to trust and love each other while on the run was at times painful and at others so erotic I blushed but always I needed to turn the page to see what happened next.

I sometimes wonder how writer Emma Holly does it? How she makes her stories so real. In her Hidden-series she has created a magical city in the US. An anthropological experiment created by Fairies with powerful magic who wanted to see what would happen when different magical creatures co-existed with humans with magical talents.

In this book we meet half-fairies, gnomes, gargoyles and werewolves. The story about the ordinary, organised werewolf cop Rick Lupone and the insecure half-fairy Cass Maycee could have been silly and shallow but it is not. Quite the contrary.

Ms Holly writes a story about two rather lonely people who were drawn to each other already in high school. But since they were not only different races they also belonged to different social classes, they never acted on their feelings. When destiny throws them together again as adults, they still struggle with the same insecurities but they have the courage to follow their harts.

Rick and Cass story are lined by difficulties, not only their insecurities but also things Cass father had done that comes back to haunt them. But it is not the big, exciting story that hooks me, no it is the smaller but no less exciting story between Rick and Cass. How they work with their fears, realises that the love is still strong between them. How they gain trust in each other, looses it and struggles to find it again. That is what makes the book for me. That and the super cute dragons!

Ms. Holly is one of my autobuys. I savor her books like I do my hidden stash of Godiva. Her latest, Hidden Dragons, doesn't disappoint. She transports us to her world of Resurrection, a pocket of magical creatures and fae hidden in the mundane realm of humans -- a portal between the not always so friendly fairie realm and the human's earth. While other-worldly, Resurrection still has it day-to-day challenges for its residents. How do you get the hunky were-boy you crushed on in high school out of your system when he shows up at your door a jaw-dropping, drool-worthy police detective? And just how seriously should you take your father when he tells you dragons still exist?

One answer involves scorching hot love making and the other an adventure into the impossible turned reality. As always, Ms. Holly finds unique ways to plant you firmly in page-turning mode.

I highly recommend Hidden Dragons as a hot romp through magical realms.

Woo! I won this autographed copy via the GoodReads FirstRead program, and I'm looking forward to reading it!

I did enjoy this story, and Cass and Rick trying to sort out the secret history of Cass's family, and who is after them now. Since the pair did know each other in high school, and secretly had crushes on each other then, this doesn't have the initial meeting, but they do have to get to know each other again as adults.

For me, the best part though was the

I love this series. And I liked this book: the people were engaging, the conflict was high-stakes, the sex was HOT. I read it in one sitting, far into the night.

I did have one sort-of problem with it - the hero (Rick) and the heroine (Cass) have a genuine issue to resolve that seems to resolve rather suddenly. Cass has the power to compel Rick to do anything she chooses, against his will. He's utterly helpless to stop her. And he does express some trepidation about this - it just seemed to me that he decided he could live with it mighty quick.

That's my only caveat, though. The book was fun and exciting and hot, with people you really like and a beautiful world for them to save.

As much as I enjoy Emma Holly, her paranormal "Hidden" series hasn't always been among my favorites of her books. But this book was really enjoyable. It surprised me a time or two, which isn't easy to do. Sure, there's plenty of predictability, but the WAY in which the story unfolds is surprising. And fun. And sexy.

Fairies, elves, and werewolves - oh my! Add in dragons and a mysterious cat... well, it's just plain chaos. But cute, vulnerable at times, and a steamy romance. Hard to go wrong with a paranormal romance that has a bit of everything, including Alpha-male cops and dazzling fairies!

A really decent story from Holly.

Seriously, who doesn't love dragon stories and especially with a "hot" alpha trailing the fairy girl. Holly also has really the most scorching love scenes. What more could one want in an a romance novel?

I really loved the dragons - they were adorable and hoping they'll show up in the next book. The romance was ok. This is a continuing series each one of the Lupone brothers has gotten his HEA and it was Rick's turn. Both Cass and Rick were too shy in high school to make the first move and then Cass moved away for many years. Cass finally returned to Resurrection and was soon involved in a mystery that brought Rick back into her life as her Protector. This time around, they didn't waste making that move.

Paranormal fantasy with dragons, goblins and smutty fluff.
Cass finds herself face to face with the boy she had a crush on, but now he´s a grown man, a yummy one, but a cop, and he claims that she´s in danger. Cass only dabbles in magic but now someone is targeting her, her only hope seems to be to trust Rick. As a Were and a cop, he should be able to help.
Now I can´t wait to read the three first books in the series.

I have enjoyed all of Emma Holly's books. I am happy that this is another in her Hidden series. Although it is one in a series of books, it can still stand alone and is just as exciting and entertaining even if you didn't read the others before it. As with all of Emma's work it is steamy hot, and as sexy as ever. I highly recommend this book and plan to let my friends know about it as soon as possible.

Quite good. I am impressed with the world-building in this series. I enjoyed the romance between the hero and heroine. Watching the heroine come into her own was great. No magic wang, no hero saving the day - how refreshing. This series is a little wacky, a little funny and definitely readable.

Most of my Emms Holly books were on my ereader, until my son sat on it. So I had to wait for #acpl to purchase the paperback. Finally! I couldn't wait to dive right in. She has been on my list of authors I automatically grab. It was a bumpy ride at first. It took a bit to fall into the story. Honestly it was chaotic at first. But balanceed out and got interesting after the first few chapters. This book is definately best taken in a comfy chair and a glass or two! #dragonlovin

I really like this story and this world. As far as erotic romances go, Emma Holly is very good at them. I could do with fewer sex scenes especially the one where they have unresolved issues to deal with. It’s hard to believe in physical chemistry when there are emotional problems in the way.

However, I think this is one of my favourites in the series and it’s because of the baby dragons. For me, any romance is improved by kids and family moments.

New slant on the Dragon story

The pocket was created from the death of the last Dragon. The pocket is a world that combines magic and mundane. But now there may be Dragon eggs and fairy factions are racing to find them and the keeper.
The romance is very stilted, and the female lead is really very cold. The secondary characters and the dragons kept me reading.

My favorite so far, maybe because I like Rick, but mostly because of the DRAGONS. We learn how Resurrection came to be, about some of the other powers of the fairies, a love story that does not go as smoothly as some of the other's have. We see all our favorite characters come together and save Resurrection. Just a fun story.
