Charm Me Not

At Fairview-Teller High, dark mixes with light. Evil with good. And villains with heroes. But there's a reason the students call it Fairy Tale High. They'll get their happily ever after, even if they have to fight for it.

When Una starts sort-of secretly dating one of her father’s soccer players… life gets complicated.

Una Nielsen is the contract maker. Sign and date, and she’ll do whatever you want—for a price.

The one thing she hates dealing with? Love.

When the charming soccer captain comes to her with a contract, she can’t turn him down. Even if it deals with love.

And her.

She agrees to go out with him a few times to see if he can change her mind and believe in love.

Only because she found a loophole in the deal.

They have to keep their plan a secret so her dad—and the rest of the school—doesn’t find out.

But secrets at Fairy Tale High are hard to keep…

This book… Wow. So good!
It is a YA fairytale retelling that follows Una and Charlie.
Una is a little more rough around the edges and more of the closed off type. While Charlie is just so sweet and an adorable guy. I love the way their journey and love story was portrayed!
This book has a little bit of everything. It has a reverse grumpy sunshine and definitely has that fairytale vibe to it.
This series just keeps getting better and better! Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read it.
Pick this book up today if you want to feel transported into a world that is just amazing.

This is a page turner that will have you cheering for the growing relationship between Una & Charlie. They are quirky & are unapologetic in their beliefs. Una is perfectly grumpy and commanding, meeting her match in the happy go lucky Charlie. I was immediately drawn into this story.

We’re back into the Teller/Fairview world! This book followers Una, and Charlie (aka Prince Charming.) Again this book is absolutely loaded with Easter eggs, I’m sure I didn’t find them all, but I tried! I really enjoy Danielle’s take on this series, it’s so refreshing and new.

Una, is this tough kid from Teller High, who at the beginning doesn’t really think relationships between the “villians” and the “royalty” should even exist. She really wears this tough exterior, and doesn’t let anyone in it. Underneath that you can really tell she’s such a caring, and sensitive person. Because of her mother and fathers relationship she does even believe in love.

Charlie, who is at Fairview, is the perfect cinnamon roll book boyfriend. He wears his heart of his sleeve, and has he eyes on Una. He is mister popular, captain of the Soccer Team (which is coached by Unas dad), and the boy has Rizz or game. Whatever the kids call it these days. Like make you swoon and kick your feet giddy!

These two enter a secret relationship (not gonna spoil why!), and Charlie only falls deeper. You really see the rough exterior Una presents start to crack as they grow closer. I loved this addiction to Tangled Web, and absolutely can’t wait for the next one!

Charm Me Not is a YA fairytale mash-up of Cinderella and Little Mermaid. This is such a wonderful YA series that had me hooked right away. If you have not started this series yet you need to. Charm Me Not had me laughing and rooting for Charlie to convince Una that she can open her heart to love. Both go to Fairview-Teller High where Chalie is prince charming and from Fairview, popular, and a soccer player. Una a Teller student who believes her heart is black winds up in a contract with Charlie who wants to prove to Una love exists. This is a sweet story that has you swooning, laughing, and agonizing with Charlie and Una. Danielle Keil did a fantastic job with this fairytale retelling that is also forbidden romance, he falls first, and a secret relationship. There are also numerous Easter eggs in the story as well. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

If you haven’t started this series yet, this is your sign and the book to do so! Danielle Keil wrote characters that will have you swooning as well as laughing! This is a top read type book!

Charm Me Not is a YA grumpy/sunshine, forbidden, modern day fairytale retelling that feels like a mix between A Cinderella Story and Disneys Descendents! In this one you meet Charlie and Una. Una is the closed off, headstrong type while Charlie is the adorable and kind full of heart. There is emotion to these characters as well as just living and having fun. I love the way Danielle tells these characters and the retellings. I also love seeing Easter eggs in this book!

If youre looking for a story that you are able yo escape reality and enjoy an easiness, this is the book for you! I highly recommended it to all! I am already excited for more of this series and more to come from Danielle!

Omg. I absolutely loved this book, so many Little Mermaid quotes I had poor unfortunate souls playing in my head. Prince Charming is just that charming, wanting to show Una that it’s possible and ok to fall love.

I definitely recommend this series to all fairytale lovers.

I received an ARC. Asked to write my honest opinion of the book.

I am so honored for the opportunity to receive an ARC of this book because I read the whole thing in one sitting and I absolutely loved it for every possible reason. Charlie and Una are both such relatable characters and I loved reading the story through both of their perspectives. I also loved being able to see Una’s growth as a character throughout the story and the connection between Charlie and Una was truly incredible. I highly recommend this book and I know I definitely will be re-reading this story over and over again.

Una is kinda iconic, and Charlie is such a teddy bear. Their story is fun to read, but it's less plausible (for as plausible as a fairy-tale high school romance could be). I really liked Una's character development as she learns that emotions and vulnerability are not weaknesses. Charlie's obsession with Una at the beginning of the book was a little ehhhhh, but he's so sweet. The author does a little telling not showing, because they basically slap you in the face with Charlie's philosophy. He says, "I loved love. As much as I loved giving. It was in my nature" (Chapter 9). Not super subtle, but compared to Una's obsidian-walled heart, he's much easier to read. I liked that we get more of Charlie's POV, because in the first book we only got the occasional Adam chapter.

As far as the fairy-tale-ness of this book is concerned, it's less integrated than the first book. The most obvious comparison is Una as Ursula, the powerful contractor. Her goons Jett and Flow are Ursula's Flotsam and Jetsam, and I wish we had seen more of them. They're semi-important to the plot, but we never really learn anything about them. Charlie is Prince Charming, a nickname he gives himself. I think there were more The Little Mermaid things than Cinderella. The singular most recognizable element of the Cinderella tale, the losing of the slipper and the finding of the unknown maiden, were not incorporated into the story at all. The entire time I was reading, I was expecting something like that to happen (especially because they're in high school, where it would be so easy to set up a school dance), but it never did.

Una and Charlie are one of those couples that if they were real, I'd be happy for them but I never would have seen it coming. It would be interesting to see how their story continues after this book because I think Una still has a lot of maturing to do regarding how she treats other people. But, the next book is about Luke (from the first book), so I'm excited to read that one.

enemies! to! lovers! he falls first! grumpy sunshine! secret relationship!
descendants!! little mermaid x cinderella?!

dark mixes with light in fairy tale high, villains and heroes are all studying together. could there be anything better?

again, one of my favorite things is probably reading about my favorite fairy tales being re-told or a little twist added to them and this is definitely all that i was asking for.

una is on the evil side, she is respected by most of the school, especially those who need her help. in all honesty she gave me uma vibes and i couldn’t even stop it, the opportunity was just right there in front of me!

charlie is the good guy, sunshine and rainbows, perfect son and perfect soccer player.

in all honesty, this story was just so fun to see play out. to understand how complex both of these characters are and in their own unique way was so interesting. for starters, una definitely did not think she deserved love. to see happiness or even to be able to experience it.

charlie likes seeing the good in people, he loves helping the people around him and honestly if you ask me, even through everything that he’s been through he still chooses to see good. was he enough to make her realize what an extraordinary person she was if she just let people in?

through it all, this man is actively trying to make this girl simply understand how much potential she has if she just allowed herself to feel, to open up, to understand that even through pain there is beauty in allowing yourself to feel that way too.

honestly so sweet and it made me want to rewatch descendants all over again!

⚽️My review⚽️

After Protect Me Not, I wasn't sure I would like any of the other books in her Tangled Web series more than I loved PMN.

I was most definitely wrong. Charlie and Una had such an adorable and wholesome romance, I can't even describe how much this book had me grinning. Charlie's golden retriever energy had me giggling throughout this whole book! I can not, and will never be able to not recommend Charm Me Not. The Fairy Godmother drama was something I wasn't sure I was going to love reading about in the books, but it was definitely something I thoroughly enjoyed! If I haven't already convinced you to read Charm Me Not, then just go to Danielle's profile and watch some of her reels!💜

Thank you, Danielle, for an ARC copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own.💕

Firstly, might I just say that I am so FREAKING HAPPY THAT WE HAVE A BLACK FMC!! I have been waiting for someone to do what Danielle Keil did and I can't wait to get into the review so I can tell you. But first, let me start off by saying that this is a hybrid of Prince Charming (from Cinderella) and Ursula. Thought it was kind of fitting because the Little Mermaid live action movie had come out about 2 months ago.

Una Nielsen is the kind of anti-hero that I wasn’t expecting. Definitely different from Jessa in Protect Me Not. In my personal experience, I saw a lot of myself in Una Nielsen. Not the whole sabotaging part and the contracts thing, but the blunt and straightforward aspect with an RBF. And also because she is a black woman. Did I mention that? I’m glad that there are girls like me represented in these books.

Charlie would have also been a guy I definitely crushed on in real life. I love the grumpy sunshine trope a lot but what I love more is a cinnamon roll hero, which is exactly what Charlie is. Adam still holds a spot in my heart, I promise, but Charlie has wiggled his way in.
Now go pick up Charm Me Not right now because I just really cannot type anymore without spoiling it!

I LOVE this fresh take on fairytale stories! We have an interesting opposites attract pair in Una and Charlie and I'm LIVING for their rocky romance. All the easter eggs from the stories / movies I love, plus a new spin on these characters finding their happy endings is everything I could want in these adorable YA mashups! We stan a charismatic, kind king determined to show his crush everything she's got wrong about love. Can't wait for the next one!

Such a good fairytale retelling. The texting banter between the main characters was adorable. I’m not used to the grumpy character being the female character. So I kinda was like yelling in my head “Una! Stop being so stubborn. You loooooove him”.

But does she relent or remain stubborn??!! Guess you will have to read to find out…

The perfect reverse grumpy sunshine story. Una Nielson doesn't believe in love. Charlie henrikson is the epitome of prince charming and absolutely loves love. The two of them are an unlikely pair, yet when Charlie makes a contract to prove that una can believe in love but is too scared of getting hurt things get intense and a little messy. At first she's hesitant, he's a fairview kid and she's a teller girl, but their chemistry is undeniable after a few secret dates and an unbelievable kiss. Of course things go down when the fairy God mother posts about them and the whole school goes wild, but does all that really matter in the face of true love?

Loved this rollercoaster mashup - Charming meets Little Mermaid’s villain

This was such a fun book to read! Una is the dark queen of Teller High while Charming Charlie is the golden boy Captain of the Fairview soccer team who’s been in love with her for years - enough to break up with Cindy. Things are plenty interesting in the deals department even before Charlie makes a deal with Una that he can prove to her that love exists. I loved how relentless Charlie was and how sweet, a true Prince Charming. Una was fab as well - braids, cargo pants, attitude, dark lipstick and fulfilling contracts. Opposites attract and I loved how the villain from Little Mermaid was romantically linked to Prince Charming. Got Ten Things I Hate About you vibes from this one. The whole high school set in what felt like modern Earth times had a Fairy Tale name and most students had names of one Disney fairytale or another, yet this seemed normal. I loved the other pairs as well - Aria (Ariel) and Prince Ali and Navin (Naveen from Princess and the Frog) being his conceited self. I enjoyed the banter, the wooing, the characters, everything and the ending….ahhh.

Recommended for lovers of mashup YA fairytale retellings in academy / modern high school setting.

3.5 stars rounded up

This book handled the fairy tale aspects better than the first book, but it was still disappointing when it directly referenced Disney. Thankfully there were only a couple of direct quotes this time, and the author really made this story more her own. I do think that the whole fairy tale comparison was overall unnecessary, because the story as really strong enough on its own. I liked the character of Una and I enjoyed seeing her growth and development throughout the story. I didn't really feel the chemistry between her and Charlie, but they weren't totally incompatible. They seemed like they would have made better friends than a couple, but I could see them eventually getting there further down the road.

One thing that did bug me a little was how long it took to get to the secret dating part. Reading the blurb made it sound like that was the main focus, and while it kind of was, the secret dating bit didn't come into play until almost halfway through the novel.

Overall, this was a cute YA novel that made for an overall fun read.

Thank you so much for providing me with the arc of this book!

4/5 🌟

Life gets complicated when Una Nielsen starts secretly dating one of her fathers soccer players. She’s a contract maker. She’ll do whatever you want… for a price. The one thing she hates dealing with? Love. But when Charlie, the captain of her fathers soccer team, comes to her with a contract, she can’t turn him down. Even if it involves love. And her. She decides to go out with him a couple times to see if Charlie can change her mind and believe in love.

This book was right up my alley! It had all my favorite tropes. Forbidden romance, secret relationship, he falls first, and cinnamon roll MMC. Charlie was so sweet. I loved his character. And I will always love a good duel POV! I also really liked the writing style and how Danielle Keil conveyed the story. The only thing I didn’t necessarily like was that Una was rude at times. Other than that I liked her character and would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sports romances!

This book spins Cinderella and The Little Mermaid together into a modern day retelling setting right into high school students.
We follow Una and Charlie throughout this telling. Una's vibe is hard to pin down at first, especially since she's convinced that love is pretty much a myth. And then there's Charlie – imagine if Prince Charming played soccer and was everyone's high school crush but also had the heart of that guy who's just too good to be true.

Contrary to popular opinion, I believe Una is a breath of fresh air. She is a blunt, no-nonsense type of girl. It's something else. She's dealing with love, or her lack of belief in it, in a way that is relatable to anyone who hasn't ever been in the presence of actual love.

Charlie is the kind of guy who makes you believe in the good of people. He's on a mission to prove to Una that love isn't just a fairytale, and it's impossible not to cheer him on.

Danielle Keil has this knack for making you laugh, sigh, and maybe even shout at the book a couple of times because you're so caught up in Una and Charlie's world. The way she mixes those classic fairytale vibes with the messiness of modern love is just brilliant. Plus, the nods to Cinderella and The Little Mermaid? Chef's kiss.

In a nutshell, "Charm Me Not" is the book you pick up when you want to fall in love with love again. It's got all the feels, some serious depth, and characters who feel like they could be your friends in another life.

So, if you've been sleeping on the Tangled Web Series, consider this your wake-up call. "Charm Me Not" is a heart-tugger in the best possible way, and I'm here for it.

Being that I’m someone who typically reads dark romances I don’t often pick up a romance that literally puts a smile on my face from start to finish. Not to mention has the ability to make me laugh out loud one second and make me feel like my heart is breaking the next as well as keep me rooting so freaking hard . Well Charm Me Not did all of the above and so much more . It really was just the change I needed .Secret Relationship, Contemporary romance at its best , fairytale retellings, angst , humor , witty banter , off the charts chemistry, sweet , fun , sexy , awesome world building, wonderfully written characters you cannot stop yourself from becoming invested in and a storyline that just grabs onto all your emotions so fast and pulls at your heartstrings in ways you definitely will not be expecting. I could not devour this phenomenal book fast enough .

Find out who get a black flower

I must say I did not love Una & her attitude the first hug half of the book. Once she started taking baby step out into the unknown her personality changed & I started to like her. Charlie wore his heart on not just his sleeve but his whole shirt for Una . Ali is the type of friend anyone needs on their line of friend's . I really like the surprise of the dates Charlie would surprise her with.

Fewer Disney quotes in this one, but similar cheesy vibe, and all-around light-hearted fun. The golden retriever/black cat trope is my very favorite one and this book does it well, especially at the beginning.
There were still a couple pretty bad editing mistakes, but I don't judge it very harshly for something that obviously doesn't take itself too seriously.

Do you like fairy tale retellings? What about grumpy girl meets golden retriever sunshine boy? If you said yes to either of those then you are going to love Charm Me Not. In the second instalment to the Tangled Web series we get to see Ursula and Prince Charming at Fairy Tail High or rather Una and Charlie in Fairview-Teller High. Charlie who loves love is insistent on showing Una that love can and does exist. In order to do so he makes a contract with her. While he succeed or will Una be to stone cold to let herself fall for her own Prince Charming Charlie.
