I was born in former Yugoslavia today Slovenia, graduated from French, English and German literature and have worked in publishing and book selling for over 20 years. Although avid reader and secretly aspiring author, I reconciled with the motto "live now, write later." So that "later" started two years ago. I hope my writing, historical fiction in English about the Balkans, will appeal to readers around the world who are interested in history as well as present developments in this area.
Going on a trip to Croatia and love learning about the history so I was really excited when I found this book. It covers the history from the ancient Greeks until present day. But it is so badly written I couldn’t get through it. You don’t really learn the history and it reads as though written like a child wrote it. I’m pretty sure no one called a Roman emperor an “old fart” (she says this at least 3 times). Also pretty sure they didn’t use the phrase “loaded” for wealthy people in the 1300s. Don’t waste your time.
When I opened the cover and saw US Copyright office written as US Coryright office, I wondered exactly what kind of book I purchased on-line. After reading a chapter and ignoring misspellings and grammatical errors, I enjoyed the learning experience about the geographic area.
This book is well written, it is a pleasure to read. I like the way she incorporated short novels into the main story line, it does break the reading flow but in a positive way. The book takes us in the side-line of history, into the forgotten part of it with strong and endearing characters.
