The Reluctant Vampire Queen #2

The Reluctant Vampire Queen Bites Back

Rate this book
Meet Mo Merrydrew - independent young woman, Mini Battenberg fan, president of the debating society - and reluctant vampire queen ...

Mo Merrydrew, fifteen-year-old Vampire Queen of Great Britain, has found a way to have her cake and eat it (and that'll be a mini Battenberg, please). Becoming Vampire Queen wasn't the easiest of decisions, but she's settling into it quite happily, now that she has dreamy familiar Luca by her side, and she doesn't actually have to bite any humans. She now just has the ... er ... teeny-tiny task of finding a way to get all the vampires in the land to swear allegiance to her, and save them from the vampire hunters who are rapidly picking them off. Easy-peasy, eh? Throw in gorgeous Vanya, sent by the Vampire King of the East to keep an eye on Mo, unruly vampires hellbent on causing havoc and a dad with a dark secret, and that cake of Mo's starts to look distinctly less appetising ...

We catch back up Mo who is still human but trying to do a good job at being the Vampire Queen of Great Britain. All she wants to do is help the Vampires integrate themselves more into the modern world, avoid the Vampire King, spend time with her boyfriend/familiar Luca and still have a normal teenage life... doable right....

Another fun installment in this series and the lighthearted read I needed!

Thanks to NetGalley, Bonnier Books and Hot Key books for the chance to read this! Can't wait to see what happens next!

"I found 'The Reluctant Vampire Queen Bites Back' to be a highly enjoyable read. Its accessible narrative makes it particularly well-suited for young readers. Those who appreciated the first book in the series, 'The Reluctant Vampire Queen,' will likely find this instalment equally satisfying."

In our second visit, Mo is now the newly crowned Vampire Queen of England and is doing her best to juggle her new role with life as a student. She isn't sure how she can keep up the pretence, but is determined to do the best she can for her new subjects.
It's hard not to laugh at Mo's meeting with her new subjects, and the attempts to get them to become acquainted with the internet and other modern inventions. While also juggling her role, she is having to deal with the threat posed by the Vampire King, and the demands placed on her by convention.
Without giving anything away Mo is in a quandary. She finds out a lot of additional information about herself and her background, but it all serves to help her in her new role.
Good fun, full of laughs, and just a little silly. Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this.

Mo has become moody, is anxious, is making rash decisions, getting into arguments, falling out with her parents and has love problems. Yeah, a typical teenager. But she is not typical, because she is the Vampire Queen. Can she find a clear path through all her troubles? Read the second instalment of the Reluctant Vampire Queen and find out. But if you are new to these books try and read the two books, so far, in order. Thank you to Bonnier Books Uk and NetGalley for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.

After enjoying the first book I was keen to read on and see what was in store next for Mo and her vampires. This was such a fun read with plenty of "bite" and ridiculously comic situations with plenty of twists and turns and high "stakes" action. Highly recommend for fans of Louise Rennison and Holly Smale.

I think this book is better and more entertaining that the first in this series. It's also more original and I appreciated how the author did a good job in delivering an original story

2/5 stars! This is a very YA (closer to middle grade) fantasy about a teenage vampire queen. It was ok. It reminded me of several other books I read in the early 00s and I don't think it added enough to the genre.

(I was sent this book by the publisher after winning a giveaway)

I enjoyed The Reluctant Vampire Queen Bites Back and I like the whimsical feeling this series has. I liked the first book slightly more than this one because I loved Mo in the first book but I found her character to be slightly off in this book. Her reactions to events in this book felt more different than the previous book.

I love how light and humorous this book is just like the first in the series but I did find some plot points to be predictable. I did really enjoy the ending and thought it suited the overall series.

Overall I thought this was a fun humorous read. I was a bit disappointed in Mo's character, I loved her personality in the first book but she felt more childlike in her reactions in this book. I did enjoy the ending and found it to be intriguing.

Have you met the reluctant vampire queen, aka Mo Merrydrew, yet? If not then I can highly recommend Jo Simmons’ The Reluctant Vampire Queen as this is the book that introduces Mo, the vampires, the familiars and more. Oh and it is hilarious. Now they are all back in The Reluctant Vampire Queen Bites Back so, if you don’t want any spoilers read book 1, and then come back here, otherwise please continue! Jo Simmons knows how to catch our attention and keep it. How to make us laugh, and keep laughing. How to write a book that we just won’t want to put down, which ends on a cliffhanger leaving us begging for more…

Mo Merrydrew is an independent young person at the age of fifteen. She is president of the debating society, a huge fan of mini Battenbergs oh, and she is also the reluctant Vampire Queen. It wasn’t exactly something she planned would happen but now that it has she’s getting used to being ruthless and fearless… But there is a little secret to divulge here. She isn’t really a vampire… She is a schoolgirl from a small village who has been chosen to be the Queen and lead. She may also be quite happy to have the dreamy Luca, her familiar, by her side though after her dad cross questions him to the nth degree it’s a wonder he has not fled! They are, unfortunately, going to have to face worse than her dad soon though. Mo has one rather intimidating task ahead of her - she has to make sure all the vampires in the land swear full allegiance to her. Then she has to save them from vampire hunters. What could possibly go wrong?
