Anna Thorne's life has been turned upside down. In the aftermath of a terrible accident that leaves her best friend in a coma and a life-altering near-death experience for herself, she is navigating the grief and depression that follows her. While the first anniversary of her near-fatal accident looms ever closer, Anna is besieged with dangerously real nightmares and even hallucinations. As her city is met with vicious and uncharacteristic storm patterns, Anna begins to realize that these dreams are much more than fantasy. As she is sucked into a terrifying new Otherworld, she finds herself racing against time to discover why she keeps being drawn here and how to stop it. As she finds herself intricately intertwined with the beings of this land, she finds herself drawn specifically to the Sin Eater, and his dark powers both terrify her and intrigue her. Anna's sense of normalcy is shaken and her quest to save herself and her world as she knows it seems to lie in unraveling the secrets of Danann and its people. Especially the brooding Sin Eater and his companions.

One of the best books I’ve read this year. I absolutely devoured this beauty in one sitting.
It was so incredibly refreshing to read a fantasy (Romantacy) storyline that not everyone has done. It was clever and well thought out. I thoroughly enjoyed the MMC. He is a Sin Eater, which isn’t something I’ve ever seen in a fantasy novel before. Absolutely brilliant writing from Heather. the FMC is extremely relatable. Which i enjoy being able to feel connected to the FMC in the books i read. It’s giving: Enemies to lovers Touch her and ☠️ Time travel Forced proximity Star crossed lovers Slow burn Spicy goodness. 🔥 🔥🔥🔥🔥 This one is for the books y’all. Grab it up.
Needless to say. I’m obsessed. Please do yourself a favour and pick this book up immediately.
I really wanted to love this. It’s such a unique concept i’ve honestly never heard of or seen a fantasy book like this before so I had high hopes but it fell very short. The editing (or lack thereof) is a big let down. Punctuation is missing or incorrect, words are repeated and sentences just don’t make sense. It’s a shame because it was hard to get lost in the story when you have to exert so much effort into trying to understand what you’re reading. The characters lacked depth and believability. It was hard to form a relationship with any of them as by the end of the book they were still strangers to me. The story felt predictable from the start and the moment that there was a mention of a missing daughter It was immediately obvious that it was going to be Kate. I also refuse to believe some random giant dragon has been flying through the skies of America and no one has noticed enough to even slightly panic. The two starts was for the uniqueness of the story, I just wish it was executed better.

What a fantastic debut! The storyline and the straddling of worlds was done in a unique way and the magical concepts were very different from the typical fantasy. The imagery was immersive and wonderfully descriptive. I finished from 60% on in one sitting until 4am and couldn’t put it down.
There are some minor editing issues, some sentences starting with prepositions which is a huge pet peeve of mine, and at times it felt too descriptive of unimportant things, which in turn detracted from the scenes themselves.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
This book was a little slow in the beginning, but once I understood the world and what the stakes were I couldn’t put this book down. Truly a WONDERFUL read. Every single page had me engulfed in the world. Declan and Anna’s slow burn romance was wonderful throughout the book. But seeing a 30 something female protagonist struggling with herself and what she has endured was so refreshing compared to all the 20 something fearless female protagonists you often read in books. I loved this book and I also love that the author is in Tulsa!! Love my Oklahoma authors!!

This book is 100% worth the buy, and I’m so glad that I did. That being said, let me warn you, you’re going to lose sleep. I did. This book had me up well after my bedtime because I just did NOT want to stop reading it. I literally had to force myself to put it in my nightstand drawer every night. Even when I wasn’t reading the book, it’s almost all that I thought of and couldn’t wait until I was reading more of it. Now I’m done reading it and I’m dead inside until the next one comes out. 10/10
This was an AMAZING read! Very suspenseful and dramatic, and the ending makes me SO excited for the next book! It was so refreshing to read a fantasy/romance with a FMC in her 30s too! So happy to support an amazing friend on her first publication! Congratulations Heather!! ♡
I went into reading this without really knowing what it was about other than it was recommended to me. It was really good! I loved the story line, and the character development. I look forward to reading more from the author.
Oh. My. God. This book will make you fall in love with reading again. I felt like I was in this book. The story line is unreal and the amount of times I audibly gasped at the twists and turns says it all. 10/10.
This is my new favourite author, in just this week I’ve read her 2 books and fell in love with her writing and the world she creates, this book took my imagination to another level and I couldn’t put it down I’ve have never read a fantasy book like this and I can’t wait for the sequel.
The narrator was a bit monotone and there were some places where inflection and emotion would have been impactful (not looking for dramatization, just some intonation).
However; this was a fantastic introduction to the series. Looking forward to more to come!
It’s hard to believe that this is Heather Dubree’s first book. Heather has unparalleled talent and proved this in her book which leaves readers utterly spellbound.
From the very first page, you are effortlessly drawn into a world filled with richly developed characters and intricately woven plots. The themes explored are thought-provoking, addressing concepts such as love, loss, mental health, and more. Heather is able to navigate these with precision, leaving readers both emotionally moved and inspired.
The characters are so authentically portrayed that they seem to leap off the pages, creating an indelible connection with readers. Their struggles and triumphs become your own, allowing you to see yourselves in their reflection.
The story is filled with suspense and excitement that builds steadily throughout. Just when you think you have everything figured out Heather introduces unexpected twists that keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.
This book really is an experience, one that lingers in your mind long after the final chapter.
For anyone looking for an escape into the world of storytelling, “The Weight of Our Sins” is a must-read. Prepare to be enchanted and moved. Heather Dubree really did something magical here!
