I think Pignataro did a good job in going step by step for anyone who look to learn basic financial modeling. It is a good book to have on the desk for anyone who is new to equity analysis. I like how he used a real transaction as an example for the core model in the book. Honestly with books like these I just cannot understand the need to pay 50k for a course while you can totally learn it yourself in a week. I guess people just love to spend money.
As good as this book is unfortunately it is just too elementary for me. He spent a lot of pages teaching about excels and I just wish he would go deeper into LBO conceptually but maybe its for another book. Although I am a bit disappointed with the depth it offers me a good framework for my investment analysis, and it is a good refresher on equity modeling.
Great introduction to a novice in LBO, from starting to finish. Paul does an amazing job of walking you through each complicated aspect. He organized the book in the perfect way. He introduces the concepts at a high-level and gets into the weeds of some of the specifics for those concepts. After we go through those concepts, we apply them to an LBO analysis of the Heinz/Kraft deal from 2013. You learn a concept and then apply it. Thats how you learn effectively.
