Brooke Turner’s relationship with her father is complicated. He left when she was two and she never saw him again till she was an adult. Despite his treatment of her she has put her life on hold more than once to care for him, which tells you a lot about the character of Brooke. For the last few years she has been trying to juggle looking after him along with her busy work schedule But when things become more serious and her father can no longer care for himself with her help, she seeks an assisted living facility. She cannot afford the area where he has lived plus she hates it. Her friend Carmen convinces her she needs to sell her father’s place and her condo and make a new start. She moves to San Diego.
When Mari D’Angelo rents out the apartment above their restaurant, her eldest son Luca is upset. Luca is father to eight year old Frannie. Frannie’s mother Antonia left when Frannie was three. She had never wanted to be a mother, so she was content for Luca to have full custody when they divorced. Luca’s prime concern in life is Frannie. Luca, a chef in the family restaurant, is determined to ensure Frannie will never be hurt like that again.
Luca’s objections to the apartment being rented disappear when he learns who is renting the apartment. He and Brooke become more attracted to each other. What effect will that have on their lives?
I loved Brooke. She is so caring and considerate of others. Luca is almost too good to be true and Frannie is a bundle of gorgeous high octane energy. Mari D’Angelo, mother of Luca, Geo and Chloe, is a quintessential Italian Mama. I loved her.
This is my first book by this author and it won’t be my last. It was a delight to read, although I could have done without the open door sex scene or two, and small amount of the f word and blasphemy, which may not worry other readers. This is a book about family, food, friendship, choices and consequences. And my heart was pounding at one stage when danger loomed. Definitely a recommended book that will appeal to many readers,

Each book will feature one of the D’Angelo siblings and their HEA romances.
Brooke Turner has an on-line marketing career which works well with her partner who is a travel blogger as they travel more than they are home. Brooke receives a call from the hospital that her father is very sick and needs surgery. She just got him back on his feet after a lengthy recovery from a stroke and now she needs to leave again. This blows up Brooke’s relationship even though Brooke’s father was never much of a father, she still feels responsible to help him since he has no one else.
Luca D’Angelo is the eldest son of three children and a single father to a young daughter. Since the death of his father, he runs the family restaurant with the help of his mother, brother, and sister who all work there and live above the restaurant. When his mother talks to Brooke when she visits the restaurant and discovers she is looking for a place to rent, Luca’s mother rents the top floor apartment to Brooke. At first Luca is worried about this stranger living in the family building, but he soon learns of Brooke’s difficult life and current problems with her father and only wants to help.
They develop feelings for each other, and Brooke loves Franny, Luca’s daughter. They want to take it slow, but in Little Italy everyone knows everyone else’s business and the nonnas are always looking to match their loved ones. When Luca’s ex-wife shows up, will their fragile romance survive, or will it all fall apart?
This is one of those stories that pulls you right in and keeps you there until the HEA. Brooke is an amazing person despite her terrible upbringing. She is loving and always giving to her own detriment many times. Luca is the handsome Italian single dad whose momma raised him right and he is a chef. Who wouldn’t fall for that? The entire family, neighbors and secondary characters are brought to life with realistic and difficult situations that many of us have or will face in the future. The H/h in this story face each situation with maturity and open communication. I loved Luca, Brooke and Franny and the entire D’Angelo family.
I highly recommend this wonderful romance and I cannot wait for the next in the series!

Wow, all I can say is, this story blew me away! Keep the tissues close by as you are reading WHEN IT FALLS APART by Catherine Bybee. She will have your emotions all over the place. Once I started reading, it was very hard to stop! I have never read a book by Catherine Bybee before but I know WHEN IT FALLS APART won’t be the last! I’m so excited to read more by this author that as soon as I was finished, I placed all of her other books on hold at my library! The twists and turns made it impossible to put down, as I had to know what was going to happen to Brooke after so much heartache! Wow! What an awesome story.
WHEN IT FALLS APART has Brooke running away from her old life. She flies to California from Seattle to take care of her father once again. She leaves her useless boyfriend at home since he can’t be bothered to join her on the trip and be there for her. Anyway, her dad’s health has deteriorated and he can no longer live alone. She has to get her dad into assisted living, sell his stupid car and then unload the condo he is living in that she pays for. She can’t live with her dad because, in her words, she can’t wipe his butt and her dad agrees. She also has to find somewhere to live herself because going back to Seattle is not an option. There is nothing there for her anymore. Enter the D’Angelos! Brooke’s life will never be the same!
I don’t want to say too much for fear of giving away all of WHEN IT FALLS APART but once I started reading this beautiful and heart breaking story, I could not stop! Everyone should have this unforgettable book on their summer reading list. The dialogue between Brooke and Luca, is just hysterical. When Brooke meets Luca, her new land lady’s son, we’ll let me just say, I prayed he would be able to help her. There is so much pain in this story and in Brooke’s family that I was crying like a baby while reading but mostly when I was finished! I was instantly emotionally invested in all of the characters from page one and I can not wait to read more by this wonderful and heart tugging author.

Another wonderful read by author Catherine Bybee. When It Falls Apart is the 1st book in the "D'Angelos" series and I can hardly wait to read how she continues with the rest of the D'Angelo family.
This is the story of Luca and Brooke. Luca, hot and romantic single father to adorable Francie and Brooke single and alone in a new city to help her ailing father in his new assisted living facility. She rents the vacant apartment above Luca's family's restaurant and the sparks begin to fly.
A feel good contemporary romance featuring a close-knit Italian family, aging parents, single-parenting and finding true love.

Wow, this story really hit close to home. I found it to be heartachingly familiar to my own journey with my dad. Brooke’s unwavering patience in a situation that can cut like a blade was inspirational, causing me to look back at my own experience and compare the two. Unfortunately, Brooke was traveling her journey alone and my heart hurt for her because of that fact.
Once Luca entered the picture, he helped to carry her emotional load as she was able to lay much of her concerns on him. And oh my, what an incredible hero to make himself available to her in those times. I adored pretty much everything about Luca but nothing as much as his loyalty and dedication to his family.
This was a fast paced book that dealt with some hard issues on both Luca and Brooke’s side. They didn’t fly through it without a problem, but they dealt with it in a mature style that made me love them even more as a couple. Luca’s family was amazing, especially his daughter Fanny, and I’m hoping we get more from them in the future.

I'm so excited to introduce Catherine Bybee's brand-new book When It Falls Apart. This story will grab your heart and take off running with it. I fell in love with the characters, plot and setting. Although it contains some sexual scenes and curse words, it is not graphic. Bybee adds the right balance of real-life situations mixed with family, love, and romance.
Brooke Turner, has to make a sudden move to San Diego's Little Italy district. Brooke's dad is ill so she needs to live close to help care for him. While there she meets Luca D'Angelo and his huge loving Italian family. Luca also has an adorable daughter named Fanny who was abandoned by her mom at a young age. Luca is very protective of Fanny. Can Luca trust Brooke around his daughter?

Brooke is 36 years old and she just broke up with her boyfriend and moved from Seattle to San Diego to be close to her sick father.
She found an assisted living place for her dad and for herself, she found a cute little apartment on top of an italian family restaurant.

That was so adorable!
I have to admit that this was my very first Catherine Bybe book!
And I loved it! I was a bit unsure at first. I kinda wanted to throw the book out the window after reading the first sentence. I don't know why, but I just don't love 3rd person POVs. I want to be in the story. I want to be the hero or heroine and that's just so much easier in first person. BUT - I still read this and I really enjoyed it!
This book was so sweet and adorable and so full of family and love and happiness. But of course we have some heartbreaking moments too.
I just adored that our couple didn't have those typical romance novel misunderstandings and lies and omissions and whatnots. It was so perfectly mature - they just talked about everything. I wish every romance book did that! LOL!
I loved reading this.
I loved the whole restaurant/neighborhood/community vibe - I soo need to see this on TV one day!
The people, the location. This just needs to be on a screen!
Can't wait to read Chloe's and then Gio's story!

Just read Catherine Bybee's upcoming release (on NG, it was on read now with Montlake) and absolutely LOVED it. She writes my favorite heroines, they're strong but with relatable fragilities. Brooke family issues were portrayed with sincerity and with an intimacy that got to me many times. Her male characters are dreamy and Luca was a fine specimen. Family man, supportive, protective, loving, caring and an Italian chef. MINE!
I also adored the family dynamics, the secondary cast was lovely and I can't wait to read more about Gio and Chloe next.
If you're in the mood for an Italian single dad with a loud, obnoxious, loving, meddling family, you're in for a treat.

4 stars. I really did love the majority of this story. It’s a very sweet romance, and the hero and heroine are both extremely likable characters. Catherine Bybee is a talented writer and it shows in the quality of her work. I read & listened to this book for free through kindle unlimited. The audiobook is extremely well-done, and I enjoyed the narration by Devon Sorvari.
A brief synopsis: The heroine’s father gets sick, she drops her entire life to go to him and help him. She realizes quickly that he’s not going to be able to live independently and sets things in motion to put him into assisted living. She doesn’t want to live in his city, and he doesn’t want to move far, so they agree on a compromise and end up in the city where the hero lives. She goes to eat at his family’s restaurant and is searching for an apartment when his mother offers for her to live on their top floor. The hero and heroine are immediately attracted and get to know each other because of the proximity. The hero is a divorced father to a girl who’s mother left many years ago. He is pretty quickly smitten with the heroine and so is his daughter. There’s some OW drama caused by his ex-wife, but ultimately they are a great couple and get a HFN ending, which I’m sure will be expanded on in the next books of this series.
There are only a few things that kept this from being a 5 star read… First, the beginning is a long intro of the heroine’s life and she doesn’t really even meet the hero until about 15% into the book. Personally, I didn’t love the beginning of the story.
Second, I didn’t really like the heroine’s relationship with her father. Since I don’t believe in blood being thicker than water, I didn’t like that she was allowing her father so much power in her life. He was not a good father to her, and her reasons for literally setting her life on fire for him just made her seem a bit pathetic. It seemed that she was so desperate for a father’s love that she would do anything to get just a drop. I still loved her as a heroine, but she really never put her own needs first and was always thinking of everyone else. It’s a great quality, but I didn’t feel that her father deserved such loyalty.

His ex wife left both him and their daughter years ago, she causes OW drama by trying to get him back under the guise of getting to know their daughter. He is not interested at all. No scenes with OM/OW, no cheating.

A brief synopsis: The heroine’s father gets sick, she drops her entire life to go to him and help him. She realizes quickly that he’s not going to be able to live independently and sets things in motion to put him into assisted living. She doesn’t want to live in his city, and he doesn’t want to move far, so they agree on a compromise and end up in the city where the hero lives. She goes to eat at his family’s restaurant and is searching for an apartment when his mother offers for her to live on their top floor. The hero and heroine are immediately attracted and get to know each other because of the proximity. The hero is a divorced father to a girl who’s mother left many years ago. He is pretty quickly smitten with the heroine and so is his daughter. There’s some OW drama caused by his ex-wife, but ultimately they are a great couple and get a HFN ending, which I’m sure will be expanded on in the next books of this series.
There are only a few things that kept this from being a 5 star read… First, the beginning is a long intro of the heroine’s life and she doesn’t really even meet the hero until about 15% into the book. Personally, I didn’t love the beginning of the story.
Second, I didn’t really like the heroine’s relationship with her father. Since I don’t believe in blood being thicker than water, I didn’t like that she was allowing her father so much power in her life. He was not a good father to her, and her reasons for literally setting her life on fire for him just made her seem a bit pathetic. It seemed that she was so desperate for a father’s love that she would do anything to get just a drop. I still loved her as a heroine, but she really never put her own needs first and was always thinking of everyone else. It’s a great quality, but I didn’t feel that her father deserved such loyalty.

What an emotional read! It's pretty heavy in the beginning and I just felt so much for what Brooke was going through. I couldn't help but put myself in her shoes and wonder how I would have handled things. I was at a loss and that made me feel so much more for her plight.
I was glad for Luca and his family as they came into the picture, not only to give some light to this story, but also to see Brooke have something good in her life. You do get a bit more drama with the situation with Luca's daughter but to me, that was good drama. It really showed how good Brooke would be for Franny and how much she was what she needed.
Like most stories, you get invested with every chapter you read, and the ending is what really made me fall completely in love. I admit, I wanted to see more of that ending. It did end in a way to make me think there will be a book 2 for the sister, so I can't wait for that, but also to see more of Luca, Brooke and Franny.

Been there. Done that. As someone who was also totally alone handling the same situation with their cantankerous, failing parent, I can totally relate. I liked this ending better.

A nice enough read but, honestly, I was bored while reading most of it. Nice characters, nice setting, bit of drama with an 'ex' and an elderly parent. Don't think I am interested enough to continue the series.

Brooke’s life comes apart when her dad is admitted into the hospital close to death. Living in Seattle doesn’t work out when his care requires her to live close-by, and unfortunately her long-term boyfriend isn’t supportive. So, Brooke packs up her life and heads to Southern California. Brooke was instantly likable, and I was hoping she’d get a break and a chance at happiness!
Settling in her father’s town isn’t going to work for Brooke, the city is desert-y, dry and depressing. On a little getaway to gain some peace she visits the seaside town of San Diego and falls in love. I’ve been to both areas, and I had to totally agree with Brooke’s choice! There’s something about living in a place that’s ugly to you that sucks the soul right out of you so I was thrilled Brooke put her foot down about moving out of her father’s city. I loved the sound of Little Italy with its family-oriented community and delicious Italian food! Renting a little apartment above an authentic Italian restaurant, D’Angelo’s, was the perfect situation for Brooke. Even better, it had Luca D’Angelo, a handsome single dad cooking for and managing his family’s restaurant. Luca is all about family so when he hears how Brooke uprooted her life to take care of her father his heart softens towards her. Their attraction is immediate, and he inserts himself into Brooke’s life, offering help and support when Brooke needs it most.
Loved the romance with Luca! He was so sweet and attentive, but also passionate! So wonderful with his young daughter! I love that he just was there to help without Brooke having to ask. And that’s how it is if a man really cares for you. A clear contrast to her ex.
The issues Brooke faced taking care of her aging father felt true-to-life and I really had to take off my hat to her being there for him when he wasn’t there for her growing up. I was really happy she set boundaries and didn’t let his dramas take over her life.
I’ve been a fan of Catherine Bybee’s romances and romantic suspense novels, so I’m not surprised that I loved When It Falls Apart. Her writing is so effortlessly readable, I flew through the pages quickly enjoying every minute! I was happy the romantic drama was low, not saying there wasn’t bumps, but they felt like problems you’d face in a real-life relationship instead of manufactured drama. Nothing insurmountable. Their united front when it came to Luca’s ex warmed my heart. That lady was a piece of work!
I look forward to spending more time with the D’Angelos, they’re a tight knit, loving Italian family, and since this is the first in the series my wish will be granted. I look forward to Giovanni and Chloe’s romances to come!

First a couple of warnings:
1) This book is as much women's fiction as it is romance. For those used to this author's light romances or exciting Romantic Suspense offerings, this will be a bit of a change - albeit a lovely one. 2) I know this author personally and can testify that many of the events in this story are not only true but actually much kinder than real-life. Ms Bybee did a fantastic job of painting a realistic story while allowing it to keep it's beauty.
That said, enjoyment of the story, itself, will largely depend on how deep one wants to consider the themes it portrays. It can be a light, sweet read about life and finding love again, against the realities of living... Or, it can be a meaningful look at the deeper issues of abandonment, elder care and unconditional love, what makes a true family, and so many other themes that resonate with every single one of us on some level. It is superbly portrayed and achingly real.
The romance did seem a bit rushed, but given the immensity of the topics so eloquently explored, it really wasn't a problem. The strong family and support the couple intrinsically give each other is such a delight, that even the quickness of the love seems perfectly believable.

This book is about an Italian family named the D'Angelos who live and work (own a restaurant) in an area, referred to as Little Italy, in San Diego, near the bay area. This book will make you hungry for Italian cuisines. Luca, the main chief and family leader in this novel, serves ricotta and spinach ravioli, chicken piccata, bruschetta, and other pasta dishes which will make your month water as you are reading.
This is a quick chick flick feel good story of Luca who meets Brooke at a time when both of their glasses are half empty. They go thru drama with Luca ex-wife when she returns wanting to presumably spend time with her daughter, Francesca. Brooke has an elderly father who had a stroke, and other health issues which forces him into a assisted living facility and consumes her energy and thoughts until Luca entries her life. The novel truly interested me from the standpoint of taking care of a elderly family member can spin your life out of control no matter how much you love them.

There are only a handful of authors that I can always count on to deliver emotionally satisfying stories that beg to be read in a single sitting, and Catherine Bybee is one of those rare authors for me. Her knack for creating vivid, endearing characters always shines in her stories, and this is especially true of her newest release—the heartwarming story of a young woman who drops everything to care for her ailing father. She moves across the country and rents a small apartment owned by a big, boisterous Italian family, only to fall in love with the eldest D’Angelo son—a single dad.

When it falls apart is a wonderful start of a new series. The author is well known for her immersive story telling, where flawed characters find their lows and highs throughout this world that she created.
Many of her stories are very reliable and this one did not differ from her past ones.
Brooke is going back to her hometown, where life is not what she was expecting. Having to deal with an ailing father and meddling mother, she needs to take a breather.
And that break is found in the arms of a single dad, Luca.
Luca’s family is bigger and welcome Brooke with open arms.
I loved all these secondary characters’ interaction and how the meaning of a real Italian family is shown through them.
Big family gathering, delicious food and always there for each other.
A beautiful story about a second chance at love and life that will warm your heart.

When you open a book and start reading you don’t realize how much of the book could be related to your own life...That’s what this book did for me. I can relate to Brooke in a lot of ways. Makes the story more powerful for me.
Brooke Turner has become the caregiver for her ailing father and when she gets a late-night call saying her father has been hospitalized and she needs to authorize surgery that he needs because he is not able to give permission himself, she drops everything and goes to her father. She did not ask to be his primary caregiver, but as she is his only child, then it falls to her. She did not realize at the time how this one phone call would change her life forever.
Luca D’Angelo is the oldest son of a family who owns an Italian restaurant, that he works as a chef, along with his mother and two siblings. Plus, he is a single father of a young daughter and when Brooke saves Franny from a mishap in the restaurant, he did not know that fate and his mother would be changing his life too.
Once I started, I could stop with this book until I finished. It is a heartwarming family drama with romance and sexual tension between Brooke and Luca. You can feel the heat and heart of this book jump off the pages and into your heart. You will learn a little Italian and when Catherine starts describing the wonderful, they are cooking your mouth will water with wanting to taste them. Franny will steal your heart, as she becomes important to Brooke, and you will want to become a part of the D’Angelo family, just as Brooke does when she moves into the 4th floor apartment in the D’Angelo empire. She never thought a man would become so important to her and bring her everything she ever wanted.
Well done Catherine Bybee!! I cannot wait to see who is next to fall in love, in the D’Angelo family. Will it be Chloe or Gio...This first book is a winner to start off the series.

When It Falls Apart is an uplifting, charming tale set in the colourful Little Italy neighbourhood of San Diego that takes you into the lives of two main characters. Brooke Turner, a young online marketer who needs to relocate after a recent breakup and another setback in her father’s health that requires him to live in an assisted living program she will be struggling to afford, and Luca D’Angelo, a single father who spends all his time raising his daughter and running his family’s restaurant.
The prose is sweet and light. The characters are kind, considerate, and hardworking. And the plot is a delightfully absorbing blend of family, friendship, self-discovery, awkward situations, tender moments, parenthood, support, love, community, and new beginnings.
Overall, When It Falls Apart is a heartfelt, romantic, engaging tale by Bybee that is a wonderful start to The D’Angelos series and an enticing introduction to this loud, big-hearted Italian family I can’t wait to read more about.

Wow this was an incredible book and I can't believe it took me so long to pick it up. I really loved all of the characters and how well they handled everything that came their way. I found them to all be loveable and realistic and Franny was just the cutest ever. The romance between Brooke and Luca happened fast but felt natural and not rushed and the way they supported each other was really lovely to read. I may also be a bit biased but as someone who works in the emergency department of a hospital I enjoyed that the author has clearly either worked in the field or done a ton of research to make those parts of the book close to real life, especially the small quip about it being a slow day when the triage area was full of patients.

The story was well told, and the characters real.
I loved the way the author treated her father's condition. That is something that most of us will have to go through at some point. I found it touching and real. Her relationship with Luca and his love of her and her daughter was wonderfully told.

Wonderful book with realistic characters. The story draws you in slowly. Luca was married to a woman who decided she wanted a divorce when their daughter was as 3 years old. Brooke just left when her father needed her. Now, she’s near her dad and able to help him but she never expected what she walked into. The story has a fantastic large Italian family. It’s about trust, hard times, trying to find oneself, and romance. I look forward to reading future books by Ms Bybee. I received a complimentary copy of the book and chose to write a review.

Add in a scene stealer of a little girl and you will be left smiling.
It is not all easy going, as our lovelies deal with every day issues that could affect any of us, yet they do it all knowing they have each other's backs.
Then there is the wonderful D'Angelo family who will a) make you want to be part of them and b) make you put on weight just thinking of all the delicious Italian food they prepare.

When It Falls Apart is a touching romance about forgiveness, perseverance, and family bonds.
Brooke’s life is a mess, and I found it easy to sympathize with her. Perhaps that’s because Brooke’s tumultuous relationship with her father, as well as her being solely responsible for the care of an elderly relative, hit close to home for me. I couldn’t stop my heart from aching as she struggles to balance the needs of her ailing father with a desire to have a fulfilling life of her own—all the while fighting rightful resentment. Brooke’s strength, devotion, and ability to set boundaries are admirable.
The mood lightens considerably when Brooke stumbles into Luca’s world. I adored Luca and the entire tight knit D’Angelo family. The way they support each other unconditionally warmed my heart. The story explores how valuable the family you choose can be—sometimes even more than the family you are given. It’s a joy to see how easily Brooke becomes attached to the D’Angelos and they to her.
Luca is such a good father, and his attentiveness to his young daughter made me melt. Luca and Brooke are extremely compatible, and not just romantically. They are confidantes who share mutual respect and carry each other’s burdens. The story blessedly avoids miscommunication, secrets, and petty jealousy that can be the downfall of some romances.
Some key events are glossed over, particularly towards the end of the book. I would have appreciated more showing and less telling. However, the book does a fantastic job of immersing the reader in San Diego’s Little Italy. I could almost feel the breeze from the bay on my skin, hear the rapid Italian being spoken, and I practically drooled over all the wonderful dishes Brooke eats.
When It Falls Apart is the first book I’ve read by Catherine Bybee, but it won’t be the last. I’m looking forward to Luca’s ambitious brother, Gio, and vibrant sister, Chloe, getting their own stories.

The mood lightens considerably when Brooke stumbles into Luca’s world. I adored Luca and the entire tight knit D’Angelo family. The way they support each other unconditionally warmed my heart. The story explores how valuable the family you choose can be—sometimes even more than the family you are given. It’s a joy to see how easily Brooke becomes attached to the D’Angelos and they to her.
Luca is such a good father, and his attentiveness to his young daughter made me melt. Luca and Brooke are extremely compatible, and not just romantically. They are confidantes who share mutual respect and carry each other’s burdens. The story blessedly avoids miscommunication, secrets, and petty jealousy that can be the downfall of some romances.
Some key events are glossed over, particularly towards the end of the book. I would have appreciated more showing and less telling. However, the book does a fantastic job of immersing the reader in San Diego’s Little Italy. I could almost feel the breeze from the bay on my skin, hear the rapid Italian being spoken, and I practically drooled over all the wonderful dishes Brooke eats.
When It Falls Apart is the first book I’ve read by Catherine Bybee, but it won’t be the last. I’m looking forward to Luca’s ambitious brother, Gio, and vibrant sister, Chloe, getting their own stories.

Everything that Catherine Bybee writes is just so good. Her books have truly become an automatic buy for me. This one is no different. Brooke's family life has been non-stop drama from the time she was a very young child. For the last few years - things have been a roller coaster with her dad having a stroke - and now a serious medical condition that means he can't live on his own anymore. Add that to a relationship ending and you have an incredibly stressful situation - and no one for Brooke to lean on. Finding a home within Luca's family is exactly what Brooke needs.
Luca is definitely the whole package - a sexy, Italian, single dad and chef who takes his responsibilities incredibly seriously. For him - family is everything. Accepting Brooke as a tenant in his family's building is hard for him - especially after a few very difficult years for the hospitality business and their restaurant. But once he does - it is clear that they are definitely perfect for each other.
This story felt much rooted in reality and what so many people are going through. Caring for an aging loved one - and having to give up some of your own life along the way. Or sharing children with an ex, and having to standby and watch that person not care for your shared child the way you'd like them to. I deeply appreciated how real these things felt and were handled by the characters. It showed how our family ties - both chosen and blood can really impact our lives and decisions. It also showed how important it is to really talk and be open with your partner.
Overall - this is a great story where mature people make mature decisions and actually talk to each other. I adored it.
