THICK AS A BRICK is a story of desire and denial. It’s about friend-zoning someone, even when you wanna jump his bones. Because he calls you perfect, but you know he’s a threat to your heart.

Tattoos, boyish charm, a million-dollar bank balance, and a faulty filter between his brain and his mouth? That’s romance author, Drew Katterman.

Big boobs, tiny waist, wide hips, and a painful case of self-consciousness? That’s me, up-and-coming audiobook narrator, Zelda Gordon.

Drew’s fans call him brilliant. His detractors call him a playboy.

My reviewers call me talented. My enemies call me opportunistic.

Drew? He calls me perfect. And I call him a threat to my heart because he’s flirtatious, fun, and rich. He also has a gorgeous girlfriend, and I want only a professional relationship with him to prove my detractors wrong. Right?

So why do his sexy smile and kind words inspire ideas that have nothing to do with a microphone and a manuscript?

My competitors may be wrong about me sleeping my way to success, but they’re correct about one thing: I’m in this business to succeed. Screwing with Drew Katterman can only break my heart and prove the competition right.

NOTE: Thick as a Brick hits a two on the spice-o-meter, but the rest of the series is a hot level four. This means if you're offended by four-letter words and people enjoying sex, this isn't the series for you.

I HATE CLIFFHANGERS that do nothing for the story.
This book was annoying as fuck. Plot holes in a contemporary are much more annoying than in fantasy.

I won’t read any more books in this series.
The cover is great though.

Love the Insight

I love having insight on Drew and Brick's relationship prior to Fatkini. Having the backstory makes me want to start the series all over again!

A mostly decent prequel to the actual story that provides some context to Fatkini. It definitely feels like it was written as an afterthought once Fatkini was finished up. There's a lot of "wrong timing" in the MMC and FMC's history. Worth the read so you understand the main characters back stories, but nothing to write home about.

Full disclosure: I stayed up and finished this in one sitting, that's how much it pulled me in. I really liked it and the chemistry was awesome. But, the last couple of chapters made no sense to me.

Drew knows his girlfriend is only with him because of his money and has low expectations. But then after he has a blackout he feels the need to share something that he has kept secret about his past. It never came up in the years they were together before, but prior to this it seemed like he was reaching the end of his rope with her. So why share something with someone you don't trust, then make her swear not to tell anyone? Then she suggested sex and he was like, 'I just had a blackout and shared something deeply hurtful about my past and then you suggest that?' But he went along with it! After thinking how much he wished she was Zelda. In fact he was thinking of her while they were doing it. That is such a turn off for me. If you want this other woman, don't sleep with other people.

But when Liv realized he wasn't into it she complained and ordered him to perform oral sex because he hasn't in a while. When he pointed out she wasn't there, she said 'I'm here now, so get to munching'. She literally said get to munching. People don't talk like that.

Then there was Zelda, who went from telling Drew when they met that she was a confirmed spinster, to having a hot boyfriend. The passage of time was weird in this story, so I don't know how long passed, but suddenly she had a boyfriend and it gave the vibes that they had been together for a longtime, like through school. So how was she a spinster?

But I think my biggest annoyance was we are told and shown how smart and business savvy these people are, but they let their partners walk all over them and treat them like trash. Like they say horrible things to them and are obviously cheating on them, well not Drew and Liv since they have a one way open relationship, but these smart people let these bullies have space in their lives and treat them like garbage. Smart people don't do that. Even though there are some confidence issues in both main characters, neither really need to put up with it. Especially Drew, since he decides he's going to pursue Zelda, but is going to give her time, but will still stay with his girlfriend and sleep with her while wishing she were more like Zelda.

So it has a lot of potential, but it sort of ran off the rails towards the end. Hopefully since its a series that follows the same people we have already met, it gets better.

This is my first review for Monica Ross

Thick as Brick is amazing,I have three more
chapters to go.

Drew and Zelda are two of my favorite characters.
This book has also have me wanting to attend a
book conference, and listen to an audiobook.

Liv and Tristan remind me of Paul from
Gilmore Girls A Year in a life,
he was just there, but no one remember him lol.

I love how each chapter is from Zelda's
point of view and then Drew.
The text message scenes are cute also.

I CAN'T WAIT to see what happens
next with Drew and Zelda

I enjoyed this book

I liked their meet/cute with his defense of her with his spiteful ex employee. Then their banter as they got to know each other. This was a VERY slow burn romance and I'm hoping they will get their scrap together in the next book. Can't wait.

This story is a prequel to the Fatkini Chronicles and it shows the meet cute between Zelda and Drew and more of their personal back stories prior to Fatkini. It is great seeing how quick and hard Drew fell for Zelda and how he is planning the long game. Fantastic!

Why is the prequel the #6 book....

I read it as the 2nd book..
I would prefer to know where Zelda and drew started before things got started. Also, a sneak into lives attitude!
It was quick and Informational.
