Ariadne would do anything for Cesare, her fiancé of fourteen years who has always promised to make her his queen. But the day before his coronation, Cesare betrays Ariadne―and declares he will marry her sister Isabella instead. With both of their cruel insults ringing in her ears, Ariadne is locked in a tower and executed in cold blood. So when fate grants her the opportunity to go back in time, Ariadne vows to change everything. She will never forgive any of them: her two-faced sister, her heartless fiancé, and everyone in her family who took advantage of her. She will have her revenge. And this time, everything will be hers.
This is the classic story of a girl who suffers a lot in her previous life, being treated in a shitty way by everyone she loves, and receives a second chance after being killed.
I read a lot of comics like that, but this one is different.
I love characters who came back to life, and they're smart about all the informations that they have gathered in her previous life.
This girl is a bastard kid of a important man, and starts to live with his father family (after years of no contact), just because they need someone to be married to the bastard kid of the king, letting her perfect sister free to the prince.
Her stepmother was clearly graduated on Cinderella's stepmother University, because omg how she is so obsessed with having her kid on royalty.
Isabela (mc's sister), was raised her whole life being treated like the perfect doll, without flaws who everyone should love and take care. So is delicious when the Mc starts to change small things, and get herself a name on the court while makes her sister true colors to show.
And about the love interest, Alfonso is everything to me. Who needs the other one? He is so sweet to Mc, all the time, love them together.
DNF'ing this after making it to chapter... 80-something? But I just checked 110 and it's clear the problems are not going away.
It was, like so many webtoons, good until it wasn't. I loved Ariadne as twisted and complicit, but eager to undo the mistakes of her past. I was looking forward to a situation where she would first scheme for Alphonso, but eventually fall in love with him, and then have to deal with the moral quandary of whether or not she deserved a truly good man she had outright murdered in a past life.
And then, suddenly... Ceasare was so much more interesting? Al was just wet, so wet, naive and boring and effortlessly good and perfect, and Ceasare had so many more scene with Ariadne. He treated her badly, just as in the first life, but then... better? And when they talked it felt real, and honest, unlike the posturing Ariadne had to put on with Al. I wondered: was I actually in for an UNORTHODOX take on this wonderfully silly and self-indulgent trope that I adore beyond reason?
Nope. The writer is just draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaging this story out as long as possible. The difference between the amount of story covered in early chapters versus later ones is staggering, and Ariadne has also, uh, acquired magical powers? Because living through these events twice wasn't enough of a cheat code? Alphonso just gets wetter with each chapter, Ceasare gets more interesting in contrast (despite being a bastard, and I haaaaate that I have to admit he's more interesting! but he is!) while Ariadne has become something of a noble martyr instead of the twisted, bitter, and again, more interesting character we began the story with.
I hate this! I hate the politics of "likeable" characters! They don't have to be good and deserving, THEY HAVE TO BE FUN TO READ ABOUT.
Pah.
Also the writer just doesn't know how to write grand political drama, the backbiting and gossiping of the court and the marriage market was so much more well done. It feels like this series bit off five more mouthfuls than it can actually chew, and is now scrambling for identity and focus.
The novel “I am the Queen in This Life” by Lefaljinf is a scandalous historical fantasy that will have you hanging off a cliff at the end of every chapter! The author has beautifully crafted the plot of the novel to have suspense, dramatics, and a sweet revenge for the main character. The plot touches on subjects such as child abuse, sexual abuse, eating disorders, as well as bullying. The lead, Ariadne faces these challenges, and she faces them with great strength. I also enjoy the hints of comedic relief the author sprinkles in, it gives the reader a small pause before getting into another heavy arc of the story. I love Ariadne’s character, especially her intelligence and cunning. When she is made to look guilty of pushing her sister down the stairs, she spins the situation around completely and makes herself into the victim. Although in the beginning of the story she felt dull and as if she only cared about her fiancé, when she learns of his true plans for her, she vows to get her revenge on him and those who have wronged her. Knowing what atrocities Cesare has committed against Ariadne makes you smile when she reveals what she has planned for him. Ariadne is both altruistic and vindictive. She hurts those who have hurt her. But to those who she feels to be innocent she is kind and selfless. I like that she is not necessarily a hero, but she is not a villain either. Her two sides are shown prominently when she has trouble with the maid, Maletta in the beginning of the story. She rescues the Maletta’s sister which the maid abandoned and left to rot. So, she punishes the one who looked down on her and lifted up the innocent. I also love her ability to hide her emotions, like when she first meets her stepmother. The stepmother could not see it, but Ariadne was engulfed in rage when she was brushed off as nothing. She is a very dynamic character. I wholeheartedly think this is one of the best historical dramas I have read. There is something for everyone in this book. There's Romance, drama, and fantasy with a historical kingdom setting to bring it all together. Anyone who enjoys shows like Bridgerton or books like The Remarried Empress should give this one a try. The dramatics leave your mouth hanging open and have you begging to know what happens next!
Stopping at the current update bc if dies I literally don't know if I'll be able to finish it.
The writing is good and the premise is interesting but I've become really bogged down with it lately because I just feel like it's a lot of filler and the story isn't making any progress, so I'm tabling it for now. Maybe I'll return another time :)
Webtoon chapter 83 currently... I'll come back to this again in the future if it interests me or progresses further in the plot line.
My thoughts so far I do love the art style very much and the premise of being reincarnated to change the future of one's life. I do love it, but I'm not sure how I feel about the main leads. Their beliefs and notions are throwing me off.
Adriana accuses and blatantly puts down a priest who advocated for the accessibility of the religion's scriptures and ideologies to the common folk rather than being blocked by a payway. I'm not sure how to feel about the main leads further pushing apart the social status between the common folk and the nobles. It seems extremely counterintuitive to the current day's standards and ideals... Granted it is the past this story takes place in, but I can't stomach the segregation of classes of people being so commonly celebrated and enforced directly through the leads' actions.
She isn't hero material but extremely selfish. I don't like her sister Isabella any better. The same can be said for the other male leads. They are a pretty face with weak moral compasses. They rely on their hearts more than political demands and don't take action fast enough. The twisted relationships between all the characters are starting to wear me down. I'm not liking this one much but I'll keep this in mind for another chance later.
I really liked this manwha. I love how the fl is strong and doesn't take shit from anyone and I love that it isn't just simple reincarnation and there's actually some mystery behind it. Unlike in some other manwhas ariadne tries to actually figure out how she came back in time and the story is actually quite intriguing and interesting.
The way this story gets me so mad as well like I fucking hate that bitch isabella. I want her to just die so bad. Poor arabella as well like I feel so bad for her. She's constantly ignored by everyone so no wonder she's so spoiled and acts out so much. She just wants some love.
Sometimes I feel like it's too easy for ariadne but overall it's a pretty decent read.
*cue that Ceasar Clip from mean girls* ( Me the first couple of chapters)
I shouldn't like Cesare but the banter between the female lead and him makes my heart weak. He's supposed to be evil, and he is don't get me wrong, but why does he have so much chemistry with the FL. Ughhhhhh
Alfonso is a soft boy and I like him too. Cesare occasionally sways my heart but im still cheering for you Alfonso.🤧
DNFed after 315 or so chapters. I used to be obsessed with this, even willing to overlook the odd formatting and less than stellar editing, but after this long the story feels like it's going nowhere and taking forever to get there. There were some interesting concepts, such as how Ariadne came back to life, but everything is teased out so slowly that after 150 chapters you just want to throw in the towel. The pacing really will get to you.
i really like this novel and i'm excited to see the fl rise to the top and get her revenge but also find real love . I hope that that her and the little sister get along and she helps her. this book is good i like it because of the fact she doesn't let anyone bring her down anymore she gets more confident and i wish i could have confidence like her
With stories like this how the author and artist portrait the psychological aspect us really what makes or brakes it for me They tried to sprinkle some in in later chapters but it very much felt like an afterthought
all caught up on webtoon, ngl this sad, depressing arc is dragging on a bit and its getting pretty boring but, hopefully it gets better. i honestly dont mind who ariadne ends up with, i like both alfonso and cesare.
Y mírenme aquí, otra vez leyendo un manhwa que no ha terminado. Pero Dios mío! Que historia más buena🥹 está en mi top 3! Necesito saber que va pasar, ya actualícenlo😭
I have never been so entertained by the naming of certain things in this novel’s worldbuilding. Particularly when it comes to religion. The references, at least in the translation that I read, are such an indulgence. The moments of yearning, both for revenge and for intimacy between the leads, have a lot of dimension in a way that makes this series a little darker than the ones I usually read, but the heroine is actually a dynamic character who is being changed by the Golden Rule, and that, I think, sets it apart. I love the shift of her revenge from being an almost animalistic hatred to desperation to right the wrongs of the past. That’s a good lead.
