Where You Are is a MM stand alone romance by Felice Stevens that simply melted my heart. This book is set in Serenity, PA. It’s Felice’s second book to take place in this wonderful little town. In all honesty, this is half in Serenity, and half in New York. And ALL of it is just wonderful.
Isaac Seidel is forty years old and is a firefighter for the NYFD. He has been for about twenty years but before that he was a child star and was also in a few lower budget movies. Isaac has been hurt more than once because of his name, trying to use him for supposed connections he could have. So he has resigned himself to being alone. To protecting his heart with one night stands only.
Isaac is so good at being a firefighter he is chosen for a brand new training program. Where he travels to smaller, volunteer firefighter organizations and helping to teach them new things they might not have had access to. So for six weeks, Isaac finds himself in Serenity. His first night in town he meets someone in a bar that takes his breath away and they spend a passionate night together. Only to discover the same man is also a volunteer fire fighter and they will be spending quite a bit of time together.
Levi Everett is twenty seven years old and owns Lucky’s Bar along with his brother Jacob. Levi has always known he was gay but has kept his secret well hidden. He’s tried dating women unsuccessfully but his brother still keeps trying to fix him up with local women. Levi and Jacob had a very strict upbringing and now are all each other has along with their Aunt and Uncle. Levi is sure that if he lets his secret out, he will lose the only family he has so he keeps it hidden. His first time ever venturing into a gay bar and there he was, the most gorgeous man he has ever known. And that man showed him a passion he never thought possible. Only the next day, that same man was his new instructor!
I adored Isaac. And Levi broke my heart. He had so much love to give but he was petrified that someone would find out. No matter their differences, though, these two could not keep their hands to themselves when they were alone. Isaac knew he only had six weeks so he wanted them to enjoy each other as much as possible until their time was up. But going back to New York wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be. Until a new possibility gave them another chance to be together. And finally a chance to admit their feelings for one another.
I loved these two together. Isaac was a gift to Levi, finally showing him the life he could have, the life he deserved to have. But Isaac never pushed, letting Levi move forward at his own pace. Coming out was a decision only he could make. All Isaac could do was to support him and to love him, both of which he did. Have I said I loved Isaac?
If you read Fall Guy, then you have met Gabriel and Ronan. Gabriel is Isaac’s best friend in this book and I so enjoyed seeing them again. Also, Felice’s other book to take place in Serenity was Influenced, where we met Matty and Bryce who appear in this one briefly. They are more discussed in this book. I highly recommend either of these books and hope you will also grab Where You Are, and fall in love with these characters just as I did.

This book was such a wonderful surprise! I didn’t expect to love it so much.
A deeply closeted country boy (27) and a proudly gay big-city man (40), both firefighters.
Levi lives in a small town and is finally ready to give into his secret desires and be with a man for the first time. In a bar a few towns over he meets a stranger to hookup (cue fav trope) and they spent an epic night together. Isaac is with the FDNY and is in town for only six weeks to train the local firefighters some new techniques. Surprise!! Guess who’s meeting on duty the next day.
Of course Isaac and Levi can’t keep their hands off each other for long and the longer they keep this explosive thing between them going the deeper the feelings grow.
But not being open with who he truly is killing Levi more each day. But he doesn’t have the courage to come out. And it’s not even because what others will think of him but because of what that will do to the people he loves, his family. It was heartbreaking to witness how he sacrifices his own happiness to be what others expected him to be and not be uncomfortable.
I loved their journey from a small town in Pennsylvania to New York City and back. Their longing for something lasting and finally finding their way to be together forever. ♡
And boy these two were hot and had serious chemistry!! The only thing that would've made this book even better for me would've been at least one extended sex scene. And although there was no shortage of hot moments between them, they were mostly only a handful of sentences long *lolll Pity, really.
This was my first book by Felice Stevens but certainly not my last. And Declan Winters did a great job with narrating the audio.

What I love about Felice Stevens' books is that her characters always feel like they could be someone you'd bump into on the street or in the pub or at work.
She embeds them deeply into their culture or their jobs with a deft hand so that when you're reading, it's like catching up with a bunch of people you've known about for years and now you're just finding out more.
I also love that her MCs are often Jewish and proud of their heritage, even when they're not practising or don't have strong religious feelings, there are still little nuggets of that ethnicity which bring depth to the characters.
Here it's Isaac (Gabriel from The Fall Guy's BFF), a former child star and model who turned his back on that life after 9/11 to become a FDNY firefighter in Brooklyn and is now being sent out on an outreach program working with volunteer firefighters in rural areas.
On his first night in the quiet town he's landed in, he has one of the hottest nights of his life and is disappointed that the guy didn't leave his number before he left.
No worries though! He bumps into him at the regional firehouse when he goes to explain all about the outreach program.
Unfortunately Levi's not out and he's petrified of being discovered so what follows is a rollercoaster of a ride which covers a multitude of emotional dilemmas and which I thought was believable even if it did get a little bit wearying.
Not because I felt Levi should just come out, given the situation that would have been highly unlikely, but because I was impatient for them to get to discussing the feelings that it was pretty clear both had for the other, even if they were hiding them.
However, the way things develop did work very well for me, I liked the catalyst point that Felice used for there to be changes made and conversations had, there wasn't any overly dramatic scene that felt forced.
I loved Levi's extended family, his Aunt and Uncle and his brother's girlfriend, we don't see his parents because they're arseholes, and his brother Jacob clearly loved him, even if couldn't get his head around why Levi didn't want to date any of the women he tried fixing him up with.
Isaac's parents are fab though.
The way the happy ending is achieved also worked well for me, the pacing of the narrative was good, there were a few tension drivers that helped stop it being either too much sexy times or being too much Levi's fretting, and I could really believe in their future together.
We get a very nice Epilogue too which helps to solidify the fact that the connection between Isaac and Levi wasn't just based on their lustful first encounter but on the bedrock of support Levi found in Isaac and the knowledge Isaac had that Levi wasn't out for his fame and connections.
I also loved the little guest appearance of Bryce and Matty from Influenced who are friends with Jacob and whose B&B is in the same part of the country.

Must have read a different book than everyone else lol.
I have read a couple Felice Stevens books and I remember this exact issue happening with them. I could feel the connection between the characters and I didn’t connect with any of them. I also didn’t love the writing style it felt like if I zoned out for one minute I would be lost and the characters would be doing a 180 with what they were talking about earlier….
Idk I don’t think Felice Stevens writing is for me.
There were some cute parts but for Isaac being a 40 year old he was definitely an idiot lol and Levi was in the closet for waaaay too long in this story…

We have Levi and Isaac. Levi lives in a small town and works at his brother's bar...but his heart is in the little volunteer fire department. That's how he meets Isaac. He once had met him in a gay bar that no one in his hometown knew he had been to...then again when Isaac's New York City Fire Department sends him to teach and train small volunteer departments...and low-and behold... there was Levi.
Isaac lives in New York. Before his fire department career, he had become famous as a child star, but that's not his life anymore and he is now more than happy with his job with the department and his new training program that they have sent him on. When he and Levi meet, sparks fly. This is fine except no one in Levi's town...not his friends...not his family, especially not his brother, knows he's gay. So, what will happen if the two of them are outed?
Levi and Isaac were such a good match...and I waited the entire story for Levi to do the right thing darn it! I kept thinking come on Levi get your head straight...the world isn't going to end, and your brother doesn't own you. If he can't accept who or what you are then that's "his bad". You ARE an adult. I even wanted to shake him. There are plenty of emotions here, lots of heroic firefighting, great secondary protagonists and... yes... a happy ending.
Declan Winter did such a great job bringing the story and the characters to life. I couldn't decide on the rating. The story itself was certainly worth 5 stars, but we had to wait W-A -Y too long for Levi to get his act together, plus I hated how his brother, although I know he loved him, ruled his life and treated him like he was 10-years old. It became nerve wracking...so 4.5 stars.

Every time I read a Felice Stevens book I wish I were a part of that fictional world. Once again there are some wonderful characters including MCs Isaac and Levi, their families and friends (including some cameos from the stars of Fall Guy and Influenced) and locations that come alive.
I have to say that Levi stole my heart here. Living in rural Pennsylvania, he is closeted, running the bar he co-owns with his brother, and working as a volunteer firefighter. His brother is the only immediate family he has left and Levi is doing everything he believes he needs to in order to keep that relationship together, even at the expense of everything he is and wants to be. I really felt for him and understood why he placed himself in the situation. Isaac is almost the complete opposite. He's out and proud with a sometimes overly supportive family, and a well-respected firefighter with the NYCFD. He has had his share of heartache, leading to trust issues, and has written off relationships. When their one-night stand comes rushing back to them in the light of day, the two have an instant connection that both thrills and terrifies Levi. With so many obstacles, both real and perceived, these two have an uphill battle to their HEA, but it is clear they are meant to be.
This is a standalone, sweet and sexy romance and while there was plenty of internal angst with Levi, it's not an angsty story. I enjoyed seeing both men in the other's world and there was plenty of firefighting action There was one issue that I thought would have played out a little more fully, but I enjoyed seeing both men in the other's world and liked how everything played out in the end.

This was a great story! Aside from a few moments where I wanted to shake Isaac for being so stubborn, I thought his and Levi's love story was beautiful and refreshing. None of the conflict really lasted long (which I appreciated) because it allowed to story to flow and not drag. I did love how Isaac supported Levi, and didn't dismiss his fears. Fortunately, his understanding of Levi's dilemma far outweighed his stubborness! The secondary characters, both families and friends, were likeable and truly added to the story. I really appreciated the unconditional love that was shown toward Levi when his secrets were revealed. I found myself craving Aunt Daisy's famous fried chicken, whenever it was mentioned I swear my mouth watered! I so enjoyed the scenes at the firehouse, I liked the camaraderie depicted between the firefighters and how they looked after one another. I think Ms, Stevens very successfully conveyed that sense of family between the guys. Most of all I adored Levi and Isaac's journey on their way to a loving relationship, the epilogue was cracking, and the icing on the cake. Lovely romance.

This book was beyond cute. Lighthearted but with a titch of coming out angst, it was a fast read that really hit the spot. The characters felt well fleshed out and the story was fun and well-paced. Nothing here was exactly breaking new literary ground, but it was a very, very enjoyable read, especially if you’re into firefighter romance, gay awakening/coming out and uncomplicated endings.

I liked the storyline in this one, a variation of the "Oops! Last night's one-nighter is my new colleague!" trope that begins when NYC firefighter (former model and child-star) Isaac goes to small-town Pennsylvania as part of an new initiative whereby experienced firefighter train the local volunteer teams about the special techniques used in the city.
Levi works with his brother Jacob at the bar Jacob owns and runs. He's twenty-seven, he's gay and deeply closeted - and he's miserable, fearing the reaction of everyone in town - and especially Jacob-should he ever come out.
Levi is a very sympathetic character and his situation is written with insight and understanding. Isaac is nice enough, but is a stereotypical "I've been hurt by love and never want to love again" type who is so dim as not to understand the 'cryptic' comments levelled at him by his mother and his best friend about the nature of his relationship with Levi - i.e, they know he's in love and try telling him (several times!), but he's too stupid to cotton on to what they mean! (I admit to having an aversion to romances in which one part of the couple has to have his own feelings pointed out to him by a third party.)
That said, I enjoyed the story and whipped through it in a couple of sittings. Maybe it's not Felice Stevens' best, but it was still worth the read.
I liked the storyline in this one, a variation of the "Oops! Last night's one-nighter is my new colleague!" trope that begins when NYC firefighter (former model and child-star) Isaac goes to small-town Pennsylvania as part of an new initiative whereby experienced firefighter train the local volunteer teams about the special techniques used in the city.
Levi works with his brother Jacob at the bar Jacob owns and runs. He's twenty-seven, he's gay and deeply closeted - and he's miserable, fearing the reaction of everyone in town - and especially Jacob-should he ever come out.
Levi is a very sympathetic character and his situation is written with insight and understanding. Isaac was such a patient and understanding character. Pushing just enough to make Levi discover himself more and leaving the right amount of breathing room to prevent Levi to freak out too much. They were so great together from the start (maybe a bit too good to be realistic with a virgin, but compared to the whole story it's a detail).
The small town of Serenity was charming and I really loved Levi's family except for his brother, who was just an ignorant straight cis-man. Thank god his uncle and fiancee pointed out his hurtful attitude and set him straight.

WHERE YOU ARE is a standalone story that also has overlapping characters from other Felice Stevens books. You don't need to have read the other books, but I would recommend you do, simply because they are excellent stories.

The story flows smoothly, leading you from Isaac visiting where Levi lives, which is the main part of the story, to Levi visiting New York. The characters are wonderful, especially Amanda and Daisy! I adored seeing Gabriel and Ronan again, and hearing about Matty and Bryce still being happy! Yey!!
I loved Levi's character. He tries so hard to please everyone else that he puts their happiness before his own. That's not healthy, long-term, but Levi has to work that out for himself. And Isaac, he's the one I struggled with. There was so much about him I loved, but then he'd do or say something I didn't like. I know he's out, and he knows Levi isn't, but I swear my own pulse rate shot through the roof when he would kiss Levi at the bar, or his aunt and uncle's place. It almost felt as though he didn't care if Levi was caught out, which surprised me. He has many positive aspects to his character, but this, I just couldn't get on board with.
All in all, this was a brilliant story that I thoroughly enjoyed, apart from the few 'Isaac' niggles. I have no hesitation in recommending it.

A great start to the book as Isaac wasn't having a good morning after spilling coffee on his dress shirt for an important meeting.
Isaac 40 years was now a firefighter but was a actor and model previously which now is causing him troubles.
Levi 27 years was breaking his V-card and exploring his being gay by visiting a bar in a small town over from where he lived. He worked in a small town and was a volunteer firefighter. The fire house got informed they where getting a training officer for the next 6 weeks.
A hot night hookup for Levi and the next morning he'd see his man again. surprise surprise. The first sex scene was rushed not giving all the smoking hot details at the begining which I was a tad disappointed. This is an all feels and emotions story dealing with being in the closet and being who they are and is one of my favourite story. Levi is man who's possibly facing homophobic views from his brother if he came out. He badly wants to be a firefighter and is eager to give the training ago from Isaac with his experiences.
Hot chemistries sizzles between the sheets in an arrangement they had but the relationship word doesn't get a clue in. I didn't feel their connection in this but was still and enjoyable story which things go smoothly. I tried to love this story as the author I hadn't read in awhile especially with a firefighter theme. Both pov's for the characters includes as they find their HEA ending.

This is supposed to be sort of a spin-off mash-up of the author's "Fall Guy," where Isaac (on the cover) is introduced and "Influenced" in which Levi is sort of spinning around as a supporting character looking for a book of his own.
Well, despite the really in-depth description of how cover-guy Isaac has turned his life into a B-rated one-night-stand while achieving the status of a highly decorated Brooklyn fireman, this is Levi's story. Every step of the way the deeply closeted late-20's volunteer fireman from Serenity, Pennsylvania, frustrates you, takes you in, sweeps you up, lets you down and then takes off when he is confronted with the pain of being outed and joy of being loved--and loving--by another man.
As one of Felice Stevens' biggest fans, I can tell you this one caught me a bit off guard when I came to the conclusion that this is Levi's story and my only disappointment is that they somehow couldn't figure out a way to get him on the cover, too. Regardless, it's another tour-de-force and worth scooping up at once.

Where You Are is the second book that takes place in the small town of Serenity, Pennsylvania. It features Isaac Seidel, a character that was introduced in The Fall Guy and Levi Everett from Influenced.
When I finished reading influenced I was left hoping to learn more of Levi’s story. Felice Stevens does not disappoint in her delivery of his story. I was pleasantly surprised to see him paired with Isaac.
Levi has put aside his hopes and dreams to support his brother but his longing to live his life for himself comes to a head as he explores and discovers his true self.
Isaac Seidel thinks he know what he wants but once he meets Levi he begins to question things. Isaac and Levi have so much chemistry. I loved their story! It’s wonderful how each man rediscovers what he wants out of life.
As usual Felice Stevens delivers an engaging story with wonderful characters. Where You Are was everything I was hoping for and more.

Loved, loved, loved Isaac and Levi!! Isaac is a NY firefighter tasked with going into volunteer fire stations to work, teach and learn. One night he meets Levi in a club. They have an explosive night of passion. The next day he meets Levi at the firehouse he’s assigned to. I felt so bad for Levi, he struggled to be himself at the same time making sure his family was happy. I loved how patient and supportive Isaac was with Levi. We also get an update with Ronan and Gabriel from Fall Guy and the Influenced guys, Bryce and Matty. Overall, a fantastic read that is well written with addictive pacing. Hooked me and didn’t let go very easily. I highly recommend it.

This was your standard contemporary with firefighters. It was predictable and too perfect. But if you like this genre, it was fine. The people were nice, the setting in the country believable for the most part (but seven engines for 2000 people? It must have been for the county and all the neighboring counties. New York was less believable but that was okay. But I had a lot of problems with it.
From the beginning, Isaac moved fast. It was realistic but it made me uncomfortable, especially that they later become an item. That was not as realistic. Dan Savage says that’s how he met the love of his life but I don’t think it’s likely. And letting a stranger tie you up is asinine.
This was obviously written by a straight woman. Isaac is not a sympathetic character to most of us. First of all, he’s an idiot for not seeing the signs of someone who was closeted. He’s also an asshole for not giving the man his space. Pushing and not respecting the guy not wanting anything to do with him is just a dick move. It doesn’t matter what he wants when the other person is closeted. Someone closeted in a small community isn’t likely to hang out with a new very out guy. It makes me dislike Isaac.
It’s not that there aren’t guys that pull that stuff but they’re assholes and not appealing characters. But then he won’t mention that the guys gay to his gay friends who live far away? Even if he didn’t out Levi, he could have just said he was with someone closeted. Of course they’d figure it out. He left his friends who were there for a weekend to spend the night somewhere else. It was obvious. There was just too much sex in general.
Some stuff didn’t make sense. Most of the volunteer firefighters couldn’t work days at other jobs. What happens when there’s a daytime callout? And the fact that they had a new program was dropped on the rural firefighters and yet Levi had been talking about it for weeks? Then he said no one knew he was getting another degree but he mentioned having a class to them.
BTW, it is hard on the parents. Only a fraction as much as the person coming out, but they have to deal with their friends’ reactions, deciding how they’ll respond when they hear anti-gay comments. It’s true that they have to deal with changed expectations but most of all, facing their own internalized (or not so much so) homophobia. My foster kids knew I would accept them because they came to me because I took in LGBTQIA+ youth. But even my allegedly ultra-liberal parents didn’t react the way I expected when I came out.
I don’t know if I’ll read another one but I think this is a standalone.
The narrator, Declan Winters, was really good. He had a lot of voices, the MCs sounded different and his New York accent was excellent.

Felice has done it again - oh man I just loved Levi and Isaac so much and this is such a great story of love and acceptance! I love the emotion and heart that she brings to a story and delivers 100% with Where You Are!
Isaac is a former model and actor, but he's been a fire fighter for twenty years. That's where his passion is and when he gets an opportunity to basically go on tour to help train smaller, volunteer departments and represent the FDNY he can't resist. That's how he meets Levi, a younger bar owner, volunteer firefighter. They have a smoking hot connection right from their first meeting and that leads to a hot hookup. That's all it's supposed to be too, until the two of them figure out they share a professional connection too. But, Levi isn't out and so deep in the closet he doesn't think he'll ever be able to come out, he doesn't think it's worth risking his brother and his friends. Can what they share stay a secret and can they keep it temporary?
This is a really great journey, it starts out with a great physical connection, but really becomes so much deeper. They really experience intense feelings for each other and have to come to terms with what that means. They both have their own issues they have to work through, Isaac has a difficult time with trusting people and their motives and Levi's wants his brother's approval and acceptance. These two definitely frustrated me at times, but they get it together - in a big way and it gave me all the feels! I really connected to these two, what all they go through and the love they find together. Felice delivers another emotional ride that will stay with me and in my heart!

This was a really nice story. It shows very well the difficulties of being gay in a quite conservative small town. Levi and Jacob were both basically abandoned by their deeply religious parents. Isaac is from NYC, and has never really had to face that kind of oppression. He has the love and support of his parents.
The firefighting adds the element of danger to the story, and is depicted quite well.
The only thing I didn’t care for is that although Isaac tells Levi there’s no pressure to do anything he isn’t ready for, he gets a bit pushy at times. Not too much, just a bit.
Still, I enjoyed it very much!

Levi & Isaac - continuing in Serenity PA where Matty and Bryce met, Levi struggles with coming out and be happy. He afraid to lose the family he has left. Isaac comes to town to teach NYFD techniques and as a part of the volunteer fire department in Serenity, Levi is excited to get more training. The two meet and share what they thought a one night encounter but they both leave wanting more. They meet again as part of the program and get to know each other better. Their story is sweet. Levi finding himself and Isaac trusting again.

As the child of a closeted gay man, this was a difficult book to read. The struggles Levi faced within himself trying to find a way to live life as his true self was painful. The fear of being ostracized by his friends and family is something Levi struggled with even after meeting the love of his life. The author painted such a vivid depiction of the tumultuous process of "coming out". This is a real love story and I thank the author for a story well told.

Issac is an ex actor, and model that now works for the FDNY and is going to a small town to train volunteer firefighters.
Levi has been hiding all his life and decides to try to be himself. He meets Issac not knowing he is the hot shot trainer.
I loved the characters but I think I loved Levi’s inner conflict the most. I also liked that Issac had his own inner conflict.
There is a few suspenseful moments and the relationship is smoking!

Firefighting and heat..whew!!
These two are on fire! The perfect blend of heat (wooo the heat, in and out of the bedroom), angst over coming out (can I give Levi a hug please?!), and heart stopping firefighting action. And of course, love. Felice has a way of tugging your heartstrings, and is one of the few authors who will consistently make me tear up, because I get so invested in the happiness of these characters. Another winner, my dear!!

Overall, this was an enjoyable read, and I found myself rooting for the characters throughout. Isaac and Levi were clearly meant for each other, but I rounded the rating up on this one, because I think my main issue with this book could be down to personal preference - I won't list it here due to spoilers, but I'll say the end of the book (the overall resolution) took me by surprise. However, I think most people looking for an solid read with solid characters would like this one!

September 25, 2022Dnf 21% I’m just not in the mood for the pushy side character (Levi’s brother) that is this books version of the shrill bff. I see the good reviews but Levi just annoyed me and the other MC (I can’t remember his name) just seemed flat and dull. Also, all,of the side couples mentioned made me feel like I needed to have read previous books to know what some references were. This wasn’t for me.
