I should begin by saying this book was not what I had expected, or rather, hoped. I picked it up on a whim at my local library after reading on the back of Archimedes genius wartime inventions almost saving Syracuse from invasion, and wanted more of that story.
Sadly, most of the book consists of the author’s speculations on other things pertaining to Archimedes and his times. I got a lot more math and guesswork than i bargained for. But at least I emerged at the other end with a newfound reverence for this indefagitable genius of antiquity, and - to my disappointment - learned that his heureka moment and the famous story of his last utterance before death (don’t disturb my circles!) are probably nothing more than after the fact-falsehoods.
DNF. Alltför mkt spekulationer för att kännas givande att läsa. Kanske återkommer vid annat tillfälle, men antagligen inte. Boken fångade mig inte helt enkelt.
