Like a dark angel, Captain Kane O'Brien rescues Hannah Knight and her father from drowning after vampire pirates murder their crew and sink their ship. Struggling to control and hide her telekinetic powers, Hannah discovers the honorable and bold captain possesses his own secrets. Every full moon, Kane turns into a vampire. Finding out Hannah not to be the cabin boy she resembles, but a beautiful, luscious woman, tempts all his appetites. Desperate to be free of his curse, Kane considers handing Hannah over to a demon. But after Hannah uses her power to save his ship from his immortal enemy, Kane can no longer deny his attraction and vows to protect Hannah with his life. To find true love, they must combine their powers to defeat evil vampires, thwart Hannah's misogynist fiancé and escape a crafty demon.
Vampires, demons and witches! I love to write about these dark entities and the darker the better. My characters are plunged into worlds where they experience torture and mayhem, but even in a world of darkness, true love survives. I write both, sci-fi, contemporary and historical paranormal stories.
I love Guida’s writing style. Everything’s just there and you’re in it. She very accurately and intriguingly builds her scenes until they are vividly real. She also makes brilliant use of allusion and metaphor to paint an amazing scene. I didn’t just visualise this story, I lived it alongside the characters. Even though this novel is paranormal & historical in nature Guida has developed everything in such a manner that you are right there with the characters. She does a brilliant job of making this novel historical and pirate while being fun, unique and unforgettable.
The main characters were great. They were fully developed, well rounded individuals. I loved how they showed real & realistic emotions throughout. They were also the perfect contrast to one another. Although all of the secondary characters were well developed and suited their roles perfectly. I found some of them a little difficult to identify with, however that suited their roles in the story quite well.
Overall, this was a great read. Saying that I read this in 1 sitting is an understatement. The rest of the world dropped away while I was lost in its pages. I definitely can’t wait for more in this brilliant series. I would have continued on right then and there had I had any others. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone.
Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 rounded to 4 stars most because I wasn't a huge fan of the heroine ..... Vampire pirates who are Irish?!?! This is new for me. I really liked it. Although honestly, some parts I read with Jack Sparrow's voice in my head. I'll definitely continue the series!
This is a very difficult review for me to write for two reasons. The first reason is simple, parts of A Pirate's Curse were awesome and I loved it. Second, the protagonist was confusing and my dislike for just about every aspect of her character was a challenge for me. A challenge I was unable to overcome.
I am going to unleash the conversation about what was great, I am starting with the positives! Pirates. Vampires. An intriguing backstory regarding a demon with a conscience was touched on. Did I mention that the vampire pirates were Irish? Well written pirate ship battles are scattered among the story creating some page gripping sword wielding excitement. Overall the premise of this story is one I should have absolutely loved. Now, enter the female protagonist/heroine (and I am going to use that term fairly lightly).
The dirt on the downside. The female protagonist is a virgin of the highest power. (OMG I have never seen man parts) The relationship with her asshole father seemed to rub on me like sandpaper and then remained with me, like sand in the crack of my ass after a long day at the beach. Now, I could have probably accepted the super virgin attitude and brushed it off, but her character also is also inconsistent in many areas. Her prejudices against Pirates seemed to be quite strong, even though she didn't trust the source of where these biases came from. (WARNING...THIS Last bit is tiny bit spoilerish) She was terrified of said vampire/pirate while she is being SAVED from being raped by the super bad dude that she thought she already murdered. I mean...wtf? So, it's ok for you to kill Mr. Super Evil Dude, but not for him to die after you have witnessed him doing some of the most evil shit ever and then torturing you, because the death is via vampire? Where is this logic coming from? Her views on murder seemed to be one sided and the inconsistencies didn't seem to stop. *Enter non-vampire Irish pirate brother* She continues to engage in odd behaviors with her love interest brother and that truly just added more eye-rolls to the mix of face palms. Just, UG. I really didn't like her and I feel like I had about 100 more legitimate reasons why, but I am sure you have the point by now.
To recap: Good writing. Good story line. Evil bad buys. Inconstant character that I would have preferred to die a slow death.
Captain Kane and his crew save a man and boy from a wreckage at sea after their ship was attacked by pirates. After taking the boy to his cabin to question him he soon learns that the boy is a young woman, a woman that makes the man in him stand up and take attention. Hannah, the woman that was rescued has powers that her family like to keep hidden. Hannah has telekinetic powers that she uses to control the vampires that attack Kane's ship looking for her. When Kane comes clean and tells her that all of his crew including himself were cursed and change into vampires on the full moon each month. Thinking he is not what Hannah needs in his life, he tries to push her off on his human brother but becomes jealous when they become close. So to get her away from both of them he sends her to her uncle's plantation, where she was sailing before her ship was attacked. Hannah's father agreed to marry her to a neighbor but it is not what she wants. When the fiance turns out to be an evil bastard, Kane comes to her rescue. Will it be happily ever after or the worst thing for both of them? I loved the whole ideal of pirates (I don't normally read pirate books)- I really hope this is a series because I am looking forward to reading more. http://vampireswerewolvesfairiesohmy....
Not your classic vampire story No this story is way better. Rough and tumble pirates who are vampires. Yummy! The crew of this ship may be cursed, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good men. These pirates live by a code to reach their goal. They work together and along the way I hope they all are able to find the perfect woman for them, like Kane did when he met Hannah. I think you are going to enjoy this book where excitement lurks with every turn of the page. I can’t wait to find out what happens next with these rowdy pirates.
One of those books when the sample you read was better than the story.
The heroine (I use the word "heroine" loosely here) was way, way, waaaaay too childish. At times I had to stop reading for fear of breaking my kindle from smacking it against something hard when she acted that way.
Hannah's indecisiveness on her feelings for Pirate Kane was sOOOoooOOoooOOOOO freaking annoying along with her many start and stop emotions.
Another thing that had me taking breaks in-between reading was
The so-called powers Hannah has? Puh-lease. *insert eye-roll here* She had many opportunities to use it on helpless victims What kind of heroine is this?!? She also had an opportunity to use this power in a situation she was in AGAIN, I ask what kind of heroine is she?
And aren't pirates supposed to have some sort of alpha gene? Because I believe Kane skipped a dip in that pool. No way could I believe Hannah was scared of him. What, because he had a scar on the left side of his face he's to be a scary alpha male? *eye-roll* Give me a break.
Giving this book really is a tragedy but it was so poorly edited, I had no choice. There were wrong words (informal instead of formal, Lurk instead of Lark, just to mention a couple). The contractions were weird and although they were correct, they interrupted the flow of the sentences and I found myself going back to read stuff over again.
Chapter 18 is a total mess. Hannah is in a dress shop when Jacques comes in and takes over, deciding what materials should be used, as well as choosing colors. Of course, this aggravates Hannah and as she's running out of the dress shop, she thinks she sees Kane. This scene was repeated before it finally moved on. A little later on in the chapter, another scene went through the same thing.
On to the story...
Hannah is a 20-year old woman on her way to meet and marry her fiance, Jacques. Her father is not only escorting her but is captain of the ship on which they are sailing. They run into some vicious pirates who are also vampires and on a quest to find Hannah because she has special powers and they are supposed to take her and a warlock by the name of Lark, to a god called Zuto.
Kane O'Brien intervenes on behalf of Hannah's father's burning, sinking ship and saves Hannah and her father since the pirates/vampires of the assaulting ship slaughtered everyone on board of Hannah's father's ship. Kane knew there was something different about Hannah but he wasn't sure what it was. It didn't take him long to figure it out.
Honestly, Hannah is an idiot but she's a likeable idiot. I found her interaction with William, Kane's brother, to be particularly annoying. It's never cool to play two men at the same time but it's even worse when the men are brothers. I don't know if it was done out of innocence or because she was being manipulative. She gains strength as a character as the story progresses and I ended up liking her.
Kane is a pirate/vampire as is his crew but they turn only during the full moon, unlike Quinton Palmer and his crew (the murderers and marauders who took Hannah's father's ship). Kane is trying to break the curse of Zuto. It's never really explained how he's supposed to do that but that question might be answered in the second book of this series. It does involved Hannah and Lark, though.
The story, despite it's editing issues, was quite enjoyable. The plot is fast, the characters are strong whether you like them or not, and the love story between Hannah and Kane is steamy and genuine. There is some graphic violence, torture, and a near-rape that might not be suitable for some readers but overall, the story is good. If I hadn't liked Kane so much and wanted to know how this was going to end, I would have stopped reading after Chapter 18.
Hannah Knight is being forced to marry someone she doesn't love of her father Captain Justin Knight of The Dolphin. Hannah wants to marry for love and not treated as cattle. Hannah also bears a secret she can wield magic with her mind. Yet her magic is unable to help her friends aboard The Dolphin. Captain Kane O'Brien of Soaring Phoenix rescues Hannah and her father from the sea. Kane is a pirate and vampire fighting to find a way to be free of this curse. Kane never expects to have feelings for Hannah yet lights the fires of his soul and passion in ways no other woman has before. Hannah's imagination sets itself on fire with Kane's nearness and all she wants is his kiss. Quinton Palmer is searching for Justin and Hannah Knight and nothing will stop him from getting his revenge on Kane O'Brien. Will Palmer find Justin and Hannah? What will Hannah do for just one kiss from Kane? Will Kane break the curse? Your answers await you in A Pirate's Curse.
I was given this book free in exchange for an honest review. You can't go wrong with this one. Captain Kane O"Brien rescues Hannah and her Father after Vampire pirates murder the crew and sink their ship. Hannah has telekinetic powers which she is struggling to control. And Kane has his own secret to hide. Every full moon he turns into a Vampire. Kane believes Hannah is a cabin boy and when he learns her true identity he is tempted by her. Kane tries to resist her, he even thought of selling her to Demoni. But when she saves his crew from his immortal enemy, he can't resist her anymore. There road to happily ever after is not easy there are many obstacles. They must defeat Hannah's fiance , and a demon not to mention Vampire pirates. I highly recommend if you like historical / paranormal romance stories.
Pirates and Vampires ? who would have thought of such a thing but M.L. Guida has done it, this was a first for me and she is a new to me author.
it did take a bit to get into this story but soon I was captured by the story line and the Characters Kane and Hannah along with the pirate crew who are out for revenge and to break a curse.
A bountiful story filled with pirates, love, loss and magic. Some men bound to honor while others love treachery. Once given choices whether good are bad, how hard would you fight to keep that freedom? This story was a great read and I look forward to the second book in this series and it's continuance.
I am a huge fan of pirates, but I just couldn't get into this one. I read to chapter fourteen but then I just gave up. I wasn't interested in the characters and there were so many of them that I couldn't be bothered to keep them straight. Blah.
I really, and I mean really need to read more pirate books. Yum! This was a lovely find for me, I read this previously and need to get back to finishing this series up. These two are my favorite couple out of all the ones I've read of hers. The chemistry is so right between them and I do so love it when the captain of the ship who calls the orders is brought to heel by the little woman. Take that! The two are very steamy together and the jealousy is wonderful. There are also some likable side characters as well that round out the story.
She fights him and keeps a secret from him as well. He tries to ignore his feelings but that isn't how love works...
The whole setting was fantastic! The plot was great as well, I loved their journey together and this even has some supernatural aspects to it! The back and forth and the feelings that grew were fought with tension that I was eating with a spoon. The possibility of a separation? Be still my heart! The two are too good together to have ever been happy with others. I wished she had faired better for some scenes but it was in keeps with the tension of the story and situation they are in. This was a a fun story that was very satisfying!
This was a nice twist on the old fables. Was like pirates of the Caribbean mixed with charmed and vampire diaries. First for me from this author, I enjoyed the storyline so I'm continuing with the next book in the series. Based on older reviews and the author stated she did rewrite it corrected the grammar, because it wasn't bad. A few places mixed up like calling the main character Holly instead of Hannah. At first I thought their were twins. Lol. But corrected quickly. Overall recommended if you enjoy paranormal mysteries with romance.
Pirates of the Caribbean meets Dracula. The characters are interesting but the dialogue needs some work. The story can become bogged down at times. The ending seemed a bit abrupt but isn't bad if you choose to not continue with the other stories. Definitely not finished and wished the ending was a bit better.
This was a good book, very entertaining story with lots of action. Fiery fights and so much action! I had read this book before under the old title and found it just as intriguing as the first one. This is a good book for anyone loving Vampires plus throwing in the pirates makes is a most intriguing book.
He did not expect to become a vampire and he saves two people from a sinking ship. He feels an attraction to her but giving her to the demon could save his crew and him. Can he give her up? What about his crew? Is there anyway of being able to do both? See how he chooses between duty and love

A cross between Bran Stokers Dracula, as well as Pirates of the Caribbean. If you love both you will not be disappointed with this novel. Love the plot as well as the love interest. A dragon? Whoa!! Can not wait to read the next novel in the series to see where this is going to end... What will William do? or not do?.. Yikes!
The author writes this fantastic story in such a way that it has you feeling as if you are a part of the whole thing. Impossible to put down until you’re totally finished. Bring on more pirates. Received a free book.
Absolutely stunning! All the way through. I never thought of pirates being exciting but Vampire Pirates so yummy! Definitely a must read. It changed my mind about Pirates! 👹
This was a good book. Full of action, dark magic and cruel vampires. And then there was hope in a couple of lovers with everything against them but their fierce love for each other. A pirate ship full of vampires that you can’t help but root for. Loved it.
This is a plot that I don’t tend to read very often, that of paranormal historical romances and more specifically, vampire pirates. The plot is intriguing, and the author has done a good job with the world building. The characters are likable and the connection between Hannah and Kane isn’t rushed, it takes time and moves at a steady pace. I’m going to assume that with each new book different members of the crew meet their destined mates, I hope so anyway.

I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
