The Fate Trilogy #2

Twisted Games

Rate this book
His lips – oh, Jace’s lips beckoned me in ways that shouldn’t have been possible. I lost any ability to think logically when I fantasized about his savory kiss. My world was crumbling, my sisters were hunted, my death was inevitable; but, when his lips met into mine, that collision overshadowed all else – Gwyneth Patterson.

***

For years, deities searched for the Fate Sisters, but they weren’t alone in the pursuit. Their biggest rivals, the Hunters, sought the sisters as well. It was a sick, demented race of who could find them first… and then kill them. Gwyneth trusted no one, not even her beloved, Jace. For if he knew what she had planned, he’d be her greatest enemy.

Award Winning Author, Sarah J. Pepper, specializes in fantasy and paranormal romance. She unveils the beauty of love in her new adult/young adult novels. True-love can be more thoroughly described in times of darkness and tribulation. It's in those harsh moments where you see what a person is truly capable of - both the good and bad. Sometimes prince-charming isn't always on time, and the glass slipper is a little snug. And once again, Sarah J. Pepper takes us back to Gwyneth’s new world of gods and hunters and Fate. Twisted Games follows on the heels of Forgotten like the perfect hand-off in a relay race. Gwyneth is now like the fox, being hunted by the hounds and their masters as the gods and the hunters vie for the privilege of ending her life and that of her sister Fates. What world has she been thrown into? There is no one she can trust, not even the boy who makes her heart sing, cry and long for him. He is sworn to end her life, but can he do it or does Gwyneth have her own plans of betrayal and survival?

With all that’s going on, her Fate sisters in danger as well, Gwyneth has even more devastation waiting for her a she falls victim to a cruel twist of fate, from being in the company of deities too long. Are her sisters worth saving or have they become pawns for other powers, twisted to whims of their captors?

How can Gwyneth juggle her new life, her schooling, her family and the romance she craves? Leave it to Sarah J. Pepper to create a maze of subplots that seem almost endless and yet become necessary lifelines to this twisted tale. Her world is filled with mythology without bringing out the big gods. In the battle against time, Gwyneth must calculate her moves, protect those she loves and believe in herself to make it through. But can she do it alone or will she also need to listen to her heart? Ms. Pepper makes us feel every bump in the road, every emotion and never lets up until that last page. A talented writer with a brilliant sense of creation and imagination.

I received a review copy from Sarah J. Pepper in exchange for my honest review.

My Thoughts:
"Love is just another word to describe poison. It's potent and deadly."

Gwyneth Patterson's life was never under the normal label. Since she was a baby, her family was murdered, leaving her traumatized and partially blind; she only knew the world and colors in visions she thought were her future when they were really a past long forgotten. After recovering her sight thanks to the oh-so-delicious Jace Eastros, things spiral from bad to worse. She's being threatened by a Hunter who wants to kill her in order to have his heart's true desire, by using a girl as bait. Also, Gwyneth's being pressured by the Master to find her two Fate sisters and to repair her life threat. And don't forget, that apparently to love someone too much is bad, because it blinds you in different ways known to Gwyneth and makes you be an Addict, someone who craves the company of deities and ultimately becomes their slave. Drama and problems are over-flowing her plate. The cherry on top being that she's not sure if she can trust Jace as she thinks she should.

Hands down, the best book related to mythology I've read this year so far. From the very first page I was sucked into this world, not letting me put the book down until I finished reading the last page. I ended it in two days, at 2 am, kind of a bad thing because then I couldn't sleep. My mind kept wondering what was going to happen in the last installment in the Fate Trilogy, and had me craving the third book like an Addict. Sarah J. Pepper knows how to have you around her finger with her amazing storytelling abilities.

Sarah knows how to create, period. She takes this whole Greek world and shapes it so uniquely. We have The Fates, whom are usually depicted as old and ugly monsters who enjoy to torture and all that stuff. Generally, they're like bad witches. But I once saw in the internet that these three deities/goddesses were pictured as beautiful women, but they were misconceived as being ugly because of their relationship to Death, because mortals are afraid of it and by so, say they're bad and ugly. But Sarah takes the later, making the three Fates into amazing and beautiful characters all based in the Greek Myth, but with their own twist and spice.

I love all the characters in this book. I even love the bad guys, because they're made so wonderfully that in your mind you want to scream at them and kill them a few billion times. And the lovable ones, like Jace... *swoons* They each have a strong background full of their own mysteries that have you gripping to know what they are up to. They're three-dimensional and so full of life, it's hard not to think of them as full-blooded people. Even the minor ones that barely appear as described so good it all feels as real as it can be. And once the two other Fates appear, I am so without words. They're twisted, evil, manipulative, and yet, sometimes, they try to do good in their own sick way in the case of the Cutter, and other times, they're the heroes in their own minds and in other's they're the villains. Honestly, they'll blow up your mind.

The story has a lot of mini-plots that ultimately link to the main plot: get the three Fates together. I liked how Sarah managed to keep me in the mystery of trying to discover how Gwyneth was to find her sisters, while at the same time she dealt with the whinnying of the Master, her high school life, her fosters parents, and her love life with Jace. There were times when I had to simply shake my head in either embarrassment, anger, or frustration at the situations. Other times, I sighed like the hopeless romantic I am, and other times, oh wow, even though I knew that the situation was turning nightmarish, I couldn't help but burst laughing like a basket case. Fortunately, my family is probably already used to my sudden outburst while reading. All in all, I had highlighted and bookmarked my e-arc a total of 38 times, without counting the new ones I'll make once I decide to re-read it.

I cannot begin to explain how much I liked this book. Has that ever happened to you? Oh wow. From the action, the romance, conflicts, situations, romance again, fights, mythology, everything! When I first took the first book Forgotten (click here for review) I thought I'd see the usual Greek Gods, but not once did they appear. That I remember, Poseidon is only mentioned, and Hades is refereed to as Hell, but other than that, we have a few general references to the Greeks but they don't constitute as a main point. Only the Fates are the direct connection to them. And it's quite refreshing to read a book with Myths, and not completely cliched with the Greeks.

If you love things related to Mythology, deities, romance (Oh my), action, mystery, and anything paranormal and fantasy, this is a must read for you. I guess now I'll be craving for the third book more than with this one, because gosh that cliffhanger, those last few chapters, have kept my mind wondering so much in the little time since I finished it.

And now, a small compilation of my favorite quotes/parts :3

"The clock doesn't have to strike midnight for me to see the fireworks. I see them when I look into your eyes." (Said by Gwyneth towards Jace <3)

"Isn't Jace just so dreamy?" Marco said, impersonating a love-struck girl.

His body temperature rose. He said, "A descriptive elaboration of your thoughts would be most helpful. And, if it's a fantasy, leave out no detail."

"Love is just another word to describe slavery," I said. "It ties you to a person, forever binding you. It makes you act foolishly. It's impulsive. It meddles with other emotions, like hate. Worst of all, love blinds, and right now I'm desperate to see the truth."

"Jace, I think we have a problem." "That your lips aren't on mine? That is quite problematic."

Twisted Games picks off right where Forgotten ended. Another great addition to series, Twisted Games keeps you engaged. Full of action, angst and drama, it keeps you on your toes.

Gwyneth Patterson's life is far from a fairy-tale. More like a nightmare. But with the help of her beloved Jace, she once more has color in her life, with her retiring sight. What she once thought was here bleak future, turns out to be her long forgotten past. Things are more dire than usual and Gwyneth doesn't know who to trust. She is not even sure if she should trust the man she loves.

With the Hunters, Gods and everybody under the sun looking for Gwyneth and her two Fate sisters, it'll be a battle to survive. Even if it means betraying the ones you love.

Sarah J. Pepper has the talent of creating worlds like no one else and she pulls you into her world. Her books always keep you occupied in engrossed in their stories, and Twisted Games is no exception.

I was given this book in an exchange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal).

I loved this book. I feel really upset that I can't be reading the next one right now. The emotions in this book felt so real. They were descriptive enough for me to feel them. I connected with this book and to me that is the most important thing, for a book to be good enough to suck me in and make me feel like I am a part of it versus being an outsider. I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster and I loved it. The fighting was so fascinating i only wish I could see it on a screen in front of me versus only in my head. This is a book I will be rereading.

Oh.My.Freaking.God! Seriusly? I'm sorry, I just...she just. OH MY GOD! I am in love with this series!
Okay, I was given a free e-copy in exchange for an honest review, and boy do I have one! Be aware: it contains spoilers!
First off, can I say that I really love Marco's attitude? Next, I want to punch Bree in the face! Why does she refuse to kick Ryker to the curb?! They aren't even serious!
I feel for Winnie; I mean, he life is literally crap & Jace? Yeah, she thought he was all her's then that b with an itch Kali had to show up!
Talk about spin! Ryker is a Hunter? A Hunter that Winnie knew in her past life? That was a serious shocker. I mean, I hate Ryker, but I didn't think he's turb out to be a murderous Hunter! Bree really needs to dump him now.
And then with Winnie & Jace "breaking up"? Blew my mind! I wanted to kick Jace in his cahonos & slap some sense into Winnie! But I do like Levi, so after a while I was just like "screw Jace, get with the rebel, rocker boy." Especially after that fight scene between them!
I hate that Jace will not listen to Winnie's warnings about Kali, I mean what's it gonna take? Her killing Winnie in front of him?
Especially at the end! How do you think the Hunters got there? Hoq does he not find it the least bit suspicious that Kali convieniently disappeared & then the Hunters are there & so is she? Ugh! Idiot!
I really like the Cutter, she has serious spunk! But how did she get to the island? Can she shift? What kind of relationship does she have with Marco?
Is it bad that even though she's a Fate sister, I don't trust her...or the Prophet? Really excited to see what happens since Winnie broke the promise she made to the Prophet oh so long ago.
And the last like 2 paragraphs? Oh my God! I was just like, "what? She's jealous? What is going on?!" But when I turned the page to see I found out that I'd come to the end:( Now I'm excited about the final book and guess what? I feel like I'm going to be waiting a lifetime...or two!
Definetly read this book. Even if you didn't like the first (which I admit was a lot of Winnie ignoring facts & the obvious which annoyed me), but read this one! It will blow your mind, aggrivate, infuriate, confuse, and of course captivate you!

Wow again I am so impressed with the author. With her epic imagination at creating this unique world with the characters and super amazing story line. That the author is able to drag you in from the very beginning, wanting you to dive deeper into the world she created and follow Gwyneth on her adventure finding what she looking for and what she wants. The author keeps surprises me with her imagination has no limit, but she actually able to captivate me and surprise me because I find myself surprised with some of the things that happen. I just didn’t see some of the things coming, but it all makes sense when you read it. You feel like it couldn’t have happened any other way. I just love how the author can surprised me makes the story more enjoyable for me because you can appreciate how unique the story really is. Also so much is going on but everything is so organized and even the flashes we get from Gwyneth past seem meaning full, as she remembers.
I give this book five huge stars, it’s a great second book in this trilogy. Equally amazing, epic, and so unique; that if you enjoyed the first one in this trilogy, you won’t be disappointed reading this one. Cannot wait to read the last book in the trilogy, so anxious, I love this trilogy; so amazing.

After reading the first book of this series, I had already fallen in love with the characters and the story.

Book #1 (Forgotten) was great, and I loved falling in love with Jace and feeling that connection between Jace and Winnie. The conclusion implied that there would be much more to the next book than a love story – and it didn't disappoint!

I don’t think it’s easy for an author to pull off a trilogy and make the stories to follow just as good as the first, but I loved "Twisted Games" even more than Forgotten! The tension and hatred between Winnie and Analee absolutely sucked me in. And I indulged in the addicting mischievous nature of the Cutter – I really LOVE this character! I cannot wait to see what is in store for Jace, Winnie, and the fate sisters!

Sarah J Pepper is quickly becoming my favorite author! She has a gift for description and an imagination that I envy! The way she describes each characters 'thread of life' in this story is absolutely beautiful.

If you read Forgotten, you HAVE to read this! You will NOT be disappointed! Very much looking forward to book #3 :) -- If you did not read Forgotten, you will find yourself quite confused with Twisted Games.

*** I received a copy of the book from the author**

Twisted Games takes off several months after the first book end. Gwyneth can see, well she sees deities in full vibrant color, hunters in pastels and mortals in black and white, but she can see. Her and Jace are now in a relationship.

The main objection in this book is for the deities to find the two other Fate sisters. If they do, I am not going to spoil that. But believe me the book has a strong beginning, middle and end.

"What was on the note Levi gave you?"
"Ask him," I said.
"I did!" Jace yelled "He wasn't particularly forthcoming"
"Maybe you just didn't ask him nicely."
"What! Was! On! That! Note!"

Jace. I love him but he has a bit of an anger disorder. Especially when it involves being in Gwyneth's life. He wants to control her and of course be part of her life but can't. Gwyenth begins to suffer from the Craves. Were a human becomes addicted to the effect a diety has on them. And when the diety isn't around the human can't function. Gwenyth in her past life taught Jace about free will, thus creating the problem he faces when Gwenyth becomes an addict.....

I was surprised and delighted to receive an offer of an ARC (advanced readers copy) for Twisted Games in exchange for an honest review. While I did enjoy the first one book in this trilogy, I did have trouble following it. Yet by the ending of the book, I knew it deserved a repeat reading. This time, I had a much easier go of it, and I enjoyed this book. I find that it was much better than the first book. I also did not find myself disliking Jace. I actually started to like him.

This book is not for skim reading. These are complex characters, asking complex questions.

"What would you do if your sister gave the choice she gave me?" Jace said. "If you'd feel ever lasting love, but your beloved would die. Could you agree to it?"

That is an interesting question. In a way, isn't that part of what we agreed to coming to mortality? If we believe that we were immortal spirits in heaven before coming to earth, and we shall be spirits/angels again in heaven, we do come to earth and get to experience such things as love. Yet, in a seemingly cruel twist, at some point we do experience the pain of separation and death.

I highly recommend this book, and look forward to #3.

I stayed up until 3am finishing this! Wow did it get good fast! Admittedly the beginning was a tad slow, but stick with it because it is SO worth it! This is the 2nd book of Sarah J Pepper's Fate series and I loved it. So many twists and turns and suspense! Sarah is what I would call a deep thinker writer, a lot of her passages will make you reread them to really try to grasp the full meaning of what she was stating. It's interesting, different than other things I've read. Makes you scratch your head a lot to figure out where she's going with things! Her romantic scenes are so ooey gooey good that I find myself not even finishing the paragraph before jumping back and rereading it to fully savor and devour every delicious bit! The end was extremely surprising and I can't WAIT for the 3rd and final book to be released...HOPEFULLY SOON IF YOU'RE READING THIS SARAH!!! :)

Highly recommend this series especially if you're like me who typically reads basic romance novels and are looking for something a little different!

The title of this book is perfect. There were so many twists and turns with all the characters and everyone seemed to be playing their own little games. Everyone had their own agenda. I was on the edge of my seat through the whole book and had many nights with only a few hours of sleep, since I just could not put the book down.

I liked this book better than the first. It was still a little hard for me to keep up with the past life of Winnie. She started to have flash backs more in one memory instead of bits and pieces here and there. When the memories were put together things started making sense.

Winnie's relationship with Jace was like a roller coaster, I was an emotional wreck. Their past seemed to be so complicated, but their present relationship was even worse. Many times I wished I could smack some sense into these two.

I can't wait for the next book to come out because this ended with a huge cliff hanger.

I was gifted this book from the author in exchange for a honest review.

First off you need to start with the first book, Forgotten before you read this one or you will be lost. I'm going to keep this review short so I don't give anything away. I wanted to say that this is one of the best mythological series I have ever read. We have all heard of the big named Gods and Goddess but this book contains some that are not your average deities. The main players are your Fate Sisters and the people whom they have had interacted with the most. There is love, lust, betrayal, heartbreak, and battles galore. If any of that appeals to you then this is the book for you. I could not put it down, it keeps you wanting to know more and more and before you know it your left with a whopper of a cliffhanger. I look forward to reading book three!

In the second book in The Fate Trilogy, Gwyneth has accepted that she is the Chronicler and one of the Fates. This book was less confusing after having the background of the first book. I don’t recommend reading Twisted Games without reading Forgotten first.

I still felt like there were too many memories, although I understand that they were important for the story. I think the main thing about them was that I was rereading the same memories several times.

Sarah has good character development. I really felt like I knew the main characters. There were times I wanted hug them, slap them, and of course, I did cry with them. As for the rest of the characters, I decided that no one can be trusted.

Twisted Games is a young adult fantasy with romance and several twists. I’m looking forward to reading the last book in the trilogy.

Well I received this thru lop r2r. You can't read this book without reading book one you will be lost. Again I love the characters and plot but I hate cliffhangers! I really liked this book. If you don't read the first book you will totally be lost. So, I love Jace and Winnie!! The chemistry between the two just draws you in. I hate to love Ryker's character but I do! I gave this book a 4 star instead of a 5 because the flashbacks were just too much for me by the end of the book. However without them you would be lost...

Sarah J. Pepper gives Greek Mythology a fun twist in her second installment of the Fates Trilogy, "Twisted Games". The main character, Gwyneth, who happens to be one of the fate sisters, learns more and more about her past, which she has forgotten, due to being reincarnated. As she slowly gains her memory back, her feelings for the other deities intensifies, whether through love or hatred, as she tries to understand how she plays a part in their many twisted games and battles to gain power and control over each other.
I enjoyed this book especially as Gwyneth gained more and more of her memory back and details became clearer, making the plot more understandable.
Sarah J. Pepper has created a fun romance as well between Gwyneth and Jace, even though there are many ups and downs between them, making their struggles believable. However, I like my romances to be a little more subtle and allow for the magic of falling in love to take place, rather than description after description of how hot and bothered the male character makes the heroine.
If you like Greek Mythology, you'll love these books.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal)

What an ending! I can't act like that didn't get to me. The characters became much more three dimensional and real in the second addition to the fate trilogy. Their struggles became more understandable rather than petty struggles with simple solutions. The strain between my favorite couple's relationship was so intense! The writing was a bit slow at times but it remained enticing throughout the story.

What I learned: Everyone has secrets and even those who aren't ever supposed to betray you...just might.
