Lord Trent #3

Love's Peril

Rate this book
CHERYL HOLT delivers another gripping tale of love, betrayal, loyalty and family, proving once again why she's hailed as a women's fiction powerhouse. In this explosive conclusion to her 'Lord Trent' trilogy, readers will be sighing with pleasure and cheering with delight.

John Sinclair leads a double life. Though he's the illegitimate son of the infamous cad, Charles Sinclair, he seems to be a rich and prosperous gentleman. In reality, he is the notorious pirate known as Jean Pierre, The French Terror. He preys on British ships, carrying out a secret vendetta guaranteed to financially ruin several wealthy families. He's driven and determined and takes what he wants with a reckless abandon.

Sarah Teasdale lives quietly in the country at her family's estate on the English coast. With her father's death, she's at the mercy of her cruel relatives, and she'd give anything to change her fate. When dashing, mysterious John Sinclair arrives for a visit, she's stunned to learn that her stepbrother has gambled away her home to John. Everything is lost—including Sarah—with John claiming she now belongs to him and he can use her however he wishes. And he has many ideas as to the exact sort of role he'd like her to fill.

Normally, John wouldn't have bothered with a sheltered innocent like Sarah. But he simply can't resist. As a man who enjoys only the finest things in life, Sarah might turn out to be just what he's always needed.

Humor Sometimes Eradicates the Depth

It has wickedly clever humor. However, it downplayed the depth of the characters and their conversations. The banter is funny but not evocative. One of the very few conversations I enjoyed in this book is between the heroine and Harriett because no stand up comedy punch lines were added liberally.

In the end I felt like the hero just stayed because of his sister and not because of his commitment to the heroine.

A love story you won't forget.

Sarah is a small village girl. She has had a hard life since her father died. She meets John Sinclair, who is a Pirate, but she doesn't find out until it's to late.

After a very trying time, they find a lasting love.

A great read for my quiet afternoon. A feisty heroine, plotting bad guys, and an unlikely but likeable hero in a vicious pirate. There is even a salacious trial and a 'stop this wedding@ scene. A highly entertaining afternoon.

It was an okay read. Language much cruder than the previous 2 in the series, very predictable ending.

2.5 stars. Best of the three in this series, and it improved as it went along. Still mediocre.

I loved this book. I am hoping that there is another one coming in the series and that it does not end with this one. Cheryl is a good writer and I look forward to reading more of her books.

Good

It's a very unique story line, that I would like to read all the characters, have a happy ending. Charles is a dog, but thank God his 1st child was nothing like him.
