Rule Number One: Never fall in love. Rule Number Two: Always follow rule number one. Rule Number Three: Never let a man fall in love with you.
After years of experiencing dead-end relationships, go-getter Chasity Hall has sworn off love for good. However, a happenstance visit up to the forty-eighth floor where she works sends Chasity head over heels in love again, and this time it is with a dazzling corner office suite with a killer view. The only problem for the purpose-driven fashionista is that Chasity’s single status is not working in her favor and she believes that an equally ambitious beau will give her the professional image of success she desperately desires. Upon the advice of Pia, her love-addicted best-friend, she hires an intuitive matchmaker who challenges Chasity to search inside her heart to finally discover her real one true love.
Chasity Hall is looking to climb the corporate ladder. But being single is holding her back. Pia, her sister/friend who loves love, has suggested using a matchmaker, Madame Edna, in order to find her one true love. Unfortunately, Chasity’s already in love with her career. All she wants is the right arm charm.
While visiting Madame Edna she finds herself reliving her past. She’s had her share of men and wonders if she’s already met and lost her true love. Chasity has a set of rules she lives by when it comes to matters of the heart. Mainly because she’d seen her mother cry over many men and Pia has also been in the same boat and she refuses to follow in their footsteps. Will her rules be a help or hinderance?
CHASITY RULES by Nakia R. Laushaul is the first book I’ve read by this author. I really liked the book. I love that the author allows readers to get to know the characters and their lives. It was a quick and enchanting story, but, as the story draws to the end, Nakia reverts to telling as opposed to showing. I wanted to SEE things.
Even still, CHASITY RULES is a fun book that I’m certain even picky readers will enjoy.
"I wanted my own father so badly that I couldn't see past my own desire to understand that the daddy position was filled, always had been by the best father in the world-my Gramps."
Reading Chasity's story almost felt like Nakia was writing my story. It was almost creepy. I felt connected to the book before I even read the first page. The synopsis alone let me know that this book would be a special one!
Chasity Rules is a young woman's search for love. It is quite amazing the journey that Nakia writes in such a short story. There is only one reason why I can't classify Chasity Rules as perfection: it NEEDS more pages!!!
Oh, and if you don't know Nakia yet, then you need to add her books to your shelf immediately!!!
I cut my reading teeth on romance novels, read tons of them throughout my teenage and young adult years. But as life "happened", I found myself losing interest in love and love stories. Like Chasity, I constructed walls and laid down rules regarding love. But by the time I read the last page of this wonderful book, not only was my belief in true love renewed, but also my belief in good writing and good writers. This book made be think and reconsider and dream. And isn't that what a book is supposed to do? I encourage you to buy this book and read it. You'll find that not only does Chasity rule, but love rules, too!
Adrienne Thompson Author of The Been So Long Series
Nakia R. Laushaul did it again!! This short but sweet novella kept my attention! Made me want to sit down with Chastity and ask her if she needed a real friend!, because I was so ready to strangle Pia and her mama!
Chasity has rules for love. With rule #1 being to not fall in love, Chasity has plans to rise to the top of her career. Will going to a matchmaker get her just what she needs or get her what she thinks she wants?
I really enjoyed this storyline. However, towards the end of the book I felt that the story was pretty rushed. There were things that I felt left me wondering what happened and why. Even with this being a problem with me I would recommend this book to others
This was a great read, although it was short. This was a good thing though, because it was straight, and to the point. I like how the author kept the focus on the main character throughout the book. Some authors like to throw in a back story of the supporting characters, and it tends to drag a story a bit, but it wasn't necessary to do for this novel. The only thing I didn't like, which doesn't take away from the rating, was Chasity's best friend. That little thing was something else! I know it's only a book, but her antics pissed me off!
Anyway, if you're looking for a light, summer read for a short plane ride or a lazy beach day, this is a good one.
I liked the way this story played out. Gotta say my feelings were hurt when I finished I wanted more!!!!
Chasity and her rules get her in big trouble. I loved how the story played out. If I say much more, I'll give it away but I will say I wanna snatch Pia and bang her against a few walls....(okay...I know...but still!)
This was a very refreshing read. I enjoyed the back and forth between the past and the present. It was very easy to follow along, I finished it in one day, the characters were well-developed, and I was truly happy for Chasity at the end. Highly recommended.
Outstanding. Loved how this story made me think about me and my not so many rule for dating. Glad Chasity backed off od Pia because that girl is a mess on many levels and I can relate to her actions. Looking for love. Loved it.
