"I need you to choose. Do you want him or do you want me?" Those are the words that's thrown Prudence Payne's out-of-control heart into a tailspin. Two very different men are in love with her. One is rich, powerful and married. The other is her lifelong friend and a single father raising two daughters. He also happens to be her best friend’s widower.
Amid the devastating loss of her best friend, Pru grapples with the love of both men. As she deals with guilt, lies, fractured relationships, and family secrets, can she follow her heart, choosing either a rich home life of domestic bliss or one of power, privilege and prestige?
I first heard of this book because I am friends with the author on Facebook. Romance is a genre I don't normally read; I think this makes the second one that I've willingly read. I liked Pru as a character; she was my favorite part of the book. What I did not like about the book were the points of view shifts in the book; in one sentence, you're getting Pru's point of view and in the next, you're getting another point of view; I personally don't like the sudden shifts like that. Some of the details in the book seemed quite repetitive, especially since they would mentioned within two or three times within a couple of pages, example: we were told very quickly three times that Pru and James met eleven years previous to the main part of the story.
I do, however, think this is a good introduction to Michele as a writer.
I enjoyed Prudence but I wanted more of the relationship with Richard and Pru , the author kept me engaged with her story telling but I feel like this story is not finished so maybe there will be apart two.
If I were to use one word to describe this book it would be 'melodrama'. Prudence is supposed to be a tortured soul struggling with identity because of issues with her mother, her love life, her friends, her job etc. Instead of layering with a delicate touch, the author uses a very heavy hand, and in my opinion, overly exaggerates the characters and/or the situations. The result is a book where the characters have no real depth and the scenes vacillate between completely implausible and stereotypical.
Prudence Payne is a character that, as I've read, many people don't like but exists in everyday life around us. I think people didn't like her, not because she was in a decade long relationship with a married man, but because in some form or another we all have been her or know someone like her. She put a face to "the side chick." It was definitely refreshing and I"m glad I finally found out why Ann is the way she is. Ms. Kimbrough is definitely a force to be reckoned with in the literary industry. I look forward to more books from her.
This is the story of Prudence Payne, an attorney with a complicated life. In love with two men soon she must make a choice, while facing deep family secrets that surface. She is also mourning the loss of her best friend, but she knows it is time to get her life together, so so can move on and finally live her life.
A fast paced emotional read. Filled with, secrets, love, loss and the search for happiness. I really enjoyed this read.
This story touched my heart and spoke to me in a very strong way. The expressions of love, the devotion, and respect that the characters had for one another reminded me so very much of my relationship with my old boyfriend. I so loved the simple, yet deep love story that Michele Kimbrough brought to life that I downloaded a copy for my best firend. Great read!
Prudence is forced to choose between her childhood friend and her married boyfriend. The choice seemed to be a no-brainer but Pru's dilemma was deeper than what it seemed. The character interaction was thoughtful. It had the right amount of drama, romance and everything else. I loved this book and highly recommend it.
This was an amazing book that displayed what happens when you let others decide for you and how true love can withstand the test of time. I loved the author's creativity use in the storyline. I cheered, teared up, and laughed during the entire book. I can't wait for the next story.
This is the 1st book I read by Michele Kimbrough. The storyline was okay. I understand what Prudence was going through. I didn't like James. Some parts of the story was surprising to me. I would read more books by this author.
Prudence covered just about all of my bases. Love, betrayal, and secrets, with a dash of suspense! I did my best not to root for Prudence but the author won me over with a few twist, and several turns. Read this book in three days. I could not put it down and the ending left me anticipating more!
This was a good book! I read the second one first but I did not lose anything from doing that. I loved how the story played out for all the ratchet people in the book. I am a new fan!
I loved this book!I had been meaning to read it for a while now, but kept getting sidetracked.I loved all the characters( except maybe Val)and I actually understood alot of their axtns and why they did it.I honestly wasn't even mad about Nadine. She was put in a bad situation and she fought fire with pure flames honey lol!I didn't agree with her going after Pru so much, cause it's always been my belief that if your man is cheating, take it up with him not with the side chick lol.But I liked all the characters(well like I said no Val and Ann) I was happy her dad seemed to want a relationship.I could go on about this book all day!I think I read that this was this authors 1st book, so congrats to the author cause you did a really really great job!It was a great story, and now I gotta take a nap cause I read straight through to find out who she would choose😂Well worth it though.
Found this one on accident. The synopsis intrigued me. It had great potential (which is why I gave it 3 stars), but the execution wasn't at its best. Switching POV mid paragraph was driving me insane, but the storyline kept me pushing toward because I really wanted to know how it would end (the other reason I gave three stars).
