Dear Author, Please help me. I woke up in chains and I hurt like hell, but I don’t have a clue what happened to me. In fact, now that the pain in my head has eased a little, I’m coming to the conclusion that I don’t remember anything. Not where I am, how I got here, or even who I am. The only other person I’ve seen is the pretty twink crouched over there. He’s shivering in the corner, so afraid I can almost smell the fear coming off of him. He’s dressed in rags and I can see bruises and welts on his pale skin… (did I do that?) Every so often he casts a furtive look my way, those dark, dark eyes silently begging me for something… but what? He hasn’t spoken to me yet, and I’m not sure why. Am I supposed to know him? His eyes say yes, but his face doesn’t do anything to my memory. Are we lovers? Slaves? Enemies? Strangers? Is it me he’s afraid of, or just our situation? Help me figure this out before it drives me out of my mind…
Photo Description: A battle-hardened warrior stares straight ahead with ferocity and a hint of confusion. He has black dreadlocks, bronze skin, and clothing of crude leather. Around him, a primitive room of concrete and metal holds him prisoner.
This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Love Has No Boundaries" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.
I read this story somewhere in 2016 but now, having read the short Leashed, I've realised I've never written a review of book 1 of the mini-series, Caged.
I liked it much more than Leashed :( To such an extent that I remember Caged and its MCs better, even after 3+ years since reading it.
The MCs, Cor and Lack were funny and you could see their growing affection. Cor's a rugged and dark Ke'lan prisoner, Lack is a pale and fragile plaesure slave, locked up with Cor to extort his secrets.
The sex is rough and calloused, but incredibly hot and sweet at the same time.
And the story has a short and simple, but well written plot. There's a bit of mystery, a bit of angst and a bit of lewdness ;) Just what I like!
A decent free story for those who look for easy and a bit dirty entertainment :)
You can find my review of book 1, Leashed right here.
Man, that was intense. Usually I shy away from non/dub-con stuff, but this was set in a world that I liked the first time around when we saw it in Skye's story from last year's event, Leashed. This story has a sex slave as one of the MCs, so if that makes you uncomfortable, then you might want to skip it. I actually enjoyed this one quite a bit, and the twist that comes mid-way was like "wow."
The characterization is strong, and the setting is dark, complete with abusive authority and multiple different partners thrown/forced upon our poor MC. Again, it's pretty intense (all of it, including the sexytimes), but if you're in the right mood, then this one should hit your buttons in the right spot.
This is dark and twisty and full of conflict and confusion. There is also sacrifice and lots of smexy and the author does a great job catering to the prompt provided.
Cor is a hard man, and I liked that even when he's dealing with, thinking about and manhandling Lack, he is still mean and hard. His protection and loyalty is given without him reverting to a cuddly bear, his thoughts full of roses and sunshine.
Lack is the surprise here. He's a triumph in courage and forgiveness.
So, a pleasure slave and a warrior are in a dungeon type jail being held prisoner. Lots of sex going on between two men held in a yucky area for so long. I guess if you get bored and horny enough...
This story starts with two prisoners in a cage, they both need something from each other, but first they have to learn to trust. It's set in an alternate universe, but not much of the world really comes into play, it's much more about the two MCs.
It's quite a dark story with elements of dub-con/non-con, but it was handled well and I felt the circumstances and characters made the eventual HEA believable.
This was an interesting story, but ultimately a little too far outside my comfort zone for me to rate it any higher, however it was well written and if you're more into dub-con then this will probably work for you.
LHNB Story released 4.7.13 This is a well written story, which falls for me somewhere between fantasy and distopian fiction. There were several twists regarding who and what Cor and Lack, the two MC's were during the story which I had a little difficulty keeping straight. In the end though that didn't matter as it was the two men against everyone else to reach a happy ending.
Very good short story, featuring a sorta light-bdsm relationship between a warrior and a slave who find themselves imprisoned together. Good twists, interesting world concept, and generally good sex. The idea of the relationship is interesting, although perhaps not entirely justified in the story, but I'd like to check out more of Ms. Warren's works.
I don't know why this is considered BDSM by some. There's abuse, yes, but it's not sexual and it's not consensual. It's abuse.
I liked that this is a sequel to another story, giving me more information about the world. I read this one before the first one, not knowing it was a sequel. It was quite good and didn't really need to be read in order.
Didn't convince me. Neither the writing nor the connection between Cor and Lack after only 2 days, nor the plot twist. Stopped the moment Lack thinks it's a good idea to give a beat up, tied up man (for two days at least) who's not really conscious a blow job instead of doing something sensible and bring maybe some water and food. Erm, no, really no. Sorry. And I had a really big problem with Lack obviously not being much affected, apart from unpleasantness, by his continuous sexual abuse and rape. At one place is mentioned how convenient it was that he had a lifetime experience of spontaneous unprepared intercourse. The implications that leaves, that a person who earns their living with sex can't be raped and affected by it, leave a very bad taste in my mouth.
An interesting, lustful fantasy. Cor wakes up in a cell with no memory of how he got there. Slowly he realizes that there is another prisoner, Lack. In this alternate reality Cor is a soldier who has lost his memory and Lack is slave of others passions. Both men have been given a task. Find the other man's secret. Lack believes Cor is a mercenary assassin. Cor is to confirm Lack's knowledge of a treasure trove of his former master. The two men find themselves drawn together in a relationship that neither of them thought or imagined possible. Will they survive to see freedom or will their captors kill them both?
Quick read full of emotional tangles as the two protagonists Cor and Lack grow to know each other, and begin to appreciate each other's very different strength and integrity under harsh treatment in a prison setting. Some steamy sex scenes as the prisoners seek some comfort and distraction from the bleakness.
I know this is a short story and perhaps I expect too much, but the ending felt a little rushed, a bit too simplistic and a bit too twee for my tastes. All the same an interesting read provided for free from the M/M Romance Group's Love Has No Boundaries event. My thanks to the author Skye Warren for participating meeting the brief so well and creating such an interesting story.
I enjoyed the underlying premise. I realize this was written for a group and that placed certain restrictions on the story, causing the author to not be able to put as much depth as I would have liked to enjoy. If expanded with more world building and scenes, it would be an exciting and emotional read. As it was, though, it felt disconnected and slightly rushed. I wanted to experience the parts that were told not shown.
I highly recommend all of Skye Warren's books to those that love the darker nature of literature.
Non-con/dub-con. This is pretty dark. Two prisoners are trapped in a cage together. Both, held unwillingly. There's a little twist in the plot that helps move the story along.
It's mark dystopia, but there isn't much world building. But, as I understand there is a book before this one that establishes that. Really if you need a dystopia book, without all the world building this would be a good read.
Such a short but well written story. Cor wakes up in a cage without memory of why and how he got there. There is another prisoner there, young man called Lack. A pleasure slave. Cor has mixed feeling about his helpless companion. In his world there is no place for weakness and that's how he sees Lack. A weakling, hindrance. This slave however might be stronger than he seems.
It was violent and rather dark story. But I loved both Cor and Lack and I was rooting for them all the way.
In comparison to the rest of the LHNB stuff, 4 stars. Objectively, more like a 3. Which isn't to say I didn't like it. I actually rather did. It wove a nice little web of intrigue. It wasn't exactly all built up and masterful, but I certainly didn't exactly expect the plot twist, and it added interest.
As with a majority of the other LHNB stories I've read, it comes off as a little half-finished, but the bulk of the statue is there. It just needs some last details and maybe a final polishing.
I really quite liked this. Lack and Cor were interesting characters and their story was intriguing. I do wish there'd been some sort of explanation for the whole setting. Though that's probably my own fault for starting with part 2... Anyway, as with most DRitC stories, I wish this was longer. I'm sure these two could've easily held my interest for several hundred pages!
This was intense, for sure! I liked the twists with who they really were and what their objectives originally were. I'm so glad that Lack and Cor got their happy ending, they really deserved it after going through all of that! Thanks for a great story!
