This book feels like the very condensed version of Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's Knitting Rules!: The Yarn Harlot's Bag of Knitting Tricks and Maggie Righetti's Knitting in Plain English with a dash of Deborah Newton's Finishing School: A Master Class for Knitters. I preferred reading the other three books in depth. Personally, for a small reference book, I prefer Knitting Rules as she breaks down knitting concepts for various types of knitting (scarves, socks, sweaters, etc.). However, this one makes a fine substitute as it goes over technique which might be handy if you are a novice knitter.
Super helpful as a reference; the only thing that prevents me giving it 5 stars is that I think a DVD component with the techniques demonstrated would be super helpful. So hard to learn complicated things from pictures alone!
This is the book that I desperately needed but didn't know existed. It's informative without being condescending. Instead of thinking your knitting world is coming to an end, Edmonds and Moore carefully walk you back from the edge and makes you believe that yes, you might just be okay.
It's got fun side stories to read along the way (like the knitted skirt saves the day at the DMV tale).
I love this book, every knitter who doesn't have all the answers would enjoy having this at their side as they work. I borrowed my copy from the library and read it cover to cover. After I'd returned it I found myself wishing I had it home to refer to, so I bought a copy for myself.
When Bad Things Happen to Good Knitters is one of the best little references I've seen. It may only provide one solution to every problem but, nonetheless, it has some useful stuff in it which I will no doubt refer back to again and again. Fab!
