Villain's Prey

Rate this book
Kidnapping a Fernandino princess will be easy. Rich, spoiled, entitled, and full of a confidence they don’t deserve—the Fernandinos are going to fall. I’m going to be the one to hasten their demise by stealing their cherished little princess Olivia right out from under their noses. To her, I’m the villain, a Taletti who knows nothing but violence and blood. Good. That’s the way I want it.

All goes according to plan… Until I get a taste of her sharp tongue and a look at her wicked curves. It doesn’t take long for me to realize she might be more than the spoiled little brat I’d been sent to collect.

But wanting her for myself creates more danger. Olivia is in the crosshairs, and my father’s finger is on the trigger. Saving her means betraying my family, but maybe it’s time I start a family of my own--with her.

What’s a villain to do?

The story isn't something I haven't read before in a full standalone book. But I still like it and I enjoyed reading Sergei and Olivia's story.

Sergei kidnapped Olivia from her sister's baby shower. But instead of delivering her to his father like he was ordered to, he took Olivia to his safe house. He was struck by her beauty and something inside him made him feel protective and territorial over her.

But their way to his house wasn't calm at all 😂 Olivia tried to drive the car off the road. Thinking since she's about to die anyway, might as well die in her way. But Sergei was able to take control of the car, even after Olivia headbutted him.

This was a novella so the idea of insta-lust and insta-love shouldn't have been surprising anymore, but it still did catch me off guard. They were dropping the love bomb after two days of being together. Anyway, it was hot when these two went at it like bunnies. The chemistry and sexual tension were something and it just makes it all the better.

Sergei was fed a lot of lies by his father, who instilled that Olivia's family is awful and had to be wiped out. He didn't try to understand his father's reasoning before, he only followed the task at hand. But then eventually the truth will always prevail. Turns out his father was obsessed with Olivia's mother, he abducted her before and assaulted her resulting in Olivia's older brother. But her dad saved her mom and adopted her brother.

Yet despite all the years that have passed by, Sergei's father is still obsessed. However, his obsession is no longer the mom, it is Olivia now. He found out that she used to look like her mom when she was young and wanted to rehash those moments with Olivia. I mean what a sick fuck!

Anyway, a lot of things happened in this short story. Got me hooked while reading and I could not put it down. This is good and I genuinely enjoyed everything in this book, lies, betrayals, and plot twists. Quick and fun read.

This was a weird one for me. The beginning did not feel like a MINK book, then we get more of the MINK signature of humor, but it wasn't funny, I cringed and was confused rather than laugh with our main character. Also it was much darker and the hero was not very likable. At first I hated him, then I waited for him to shift on a dime, but his inner monologue was filled with hatred for our heroine, then I warmed up to him until he ruined it at the end with a trope that I just hate. The, trope is hurting the heroine with cruel words, breaking her heart, but for the purpose of saving her. *eye roll* We'll get into that later.

So this is the story of rival families. Sergei has a brother and an abusive father, one he obeys and does not question. His hatred for Olivia and her family is rooted only on what lies his father told him. He kidnaps Olivia in plain site, during a party. She goes with him so he doesn't shoot her family. When she tells her pregnant sister, that everything will be fine, he whispers to her that she's a liar. Well, even an idiot would know that she is trying to keep things calm and not panic her pregnant sister an all the guests. I just rolled my eyes shaking my head. It was meant to be their first sexy encounter with him whispering that in her ear. Had his words been sexy rather than stupid, it would have made for a good start.
There is a weird, uncomfortable exchange in the car. As much as I love MINK, I don't think she can write 'bodice ripper' style scenes. It just feels awkward. There is a moment where Olivia tries to run them off the road, head butts him, and he pins her wrists together and rips her dress, revealing her breasts. This scene was just a little too much. He did that out of hatred for her and punishing her for running them off the road and making his nose bleed, but his actions felt so full of hate that I really thought he was going to do worse. He even said he wanted to push her down and take what he wanted but he doesn't have the time. Not that he would never take her against her will, but he didn't rape her on the side of the road because he did not have the time. Instead, he menacingly threatens her, she covers herself and they continues to his safe house. Before they arrive, he makes her strip, then throws the tracker and covers her with his shirt, his first act of kindness I suppose.
He is supposed to deliver her to his father. He knows that his father will rape and torture her, tape it and then kill her and send her body parts to her family.
That was the plan, but something makes him take her to his safe house and see what he will do next, having no idea. He is attracted to her and is intrigued with her sass, but the conversations and back and forth seem just so odd to me, like it was supposed to be hot but it only felt uncomfortable. I think it is the inner monologue of the hero that threw me. It was filled with hatred for the heroine. If it was filled with lust and love for her (insta or otherwise), then I would have been all in and enjoyed it, knowing his threats are empty.
He cares for her slashed foot, then panics for all the feelings he is feeling for her, never having felt them before. They get closer, he shows his softer side, but then there is their sexual encounter that start with anger and one trying to outsmart the other, throwing them for a loop. I am all for rough sex and wrestling into submission followed by a bruising kiss, but this did not feel erotic, or him not being able to control his lust for her, it just felt off. The scene when he goes down of her was good, but it's what lead up to that that I did not like.
Also, his cat, he named him, 'Trash'....come on! I know he is a villain, but really???
We get more of the signature MINK scenes, and I felt less angst, and really felt the love they have, especially him for her. After he argues with his brother, you really see him wear his heart on his sleeve, and how his feelings for her are out in the open. You then feel the romance and believe them as a couple and that middle part I enjoyed the most, but I have to admit, I was worried that the other shoe would drop. And it did. The blood boiling trope of the hero saying something to hurt the heroine in order to save her. GGGRRRRRRR!!!!!!!
So he gets a call from his brother, that his father is heading to the safe house, knowing that he is hiding Olivia from him. Her brothers are already in the house ready to confront Serge, but Olivia tells them that they are in love, and he has her on his lap, being all sweet and affectionate. After receiving the call, he tries to figure out a way to get Olivia out, knowing she will stand her ground and refuse to leave, even if it means she will be in danger. So to get her out to safety, he throws her out coldly and says this,
“I got what I wanted. Your virgin pussy.” I say the words, even though
they burn, even though they’re lies. “Now you can go home to your
father and tell him how much you loved it when a Taletti fucked you.”
At the end, when Olivia's brother figured out that he said this to get her out he asks him, so Serge tells Olivia's brother that he indeed said that to get Olivia out of here, his father is coming with reinforcements.
Ok, he did not need to go that route, just tell her brothers to take her out of here and out of danger. If she says no, the two brothers can overpower her and take her back to their house. We could have had a scene for example where Olivia knows that his father will kill him, and this is the last time she might see him, but he stays back to protect her. He could give her parting words like, "If my father does take my life I will go gladly, these past few days with you Olivia was the only time I felt warmth and happiness and love. You brought me out of cold and into your warmth, and my soul will always be by your side, until we meet again in another life. I love you." She cries, reached out to him, he smiles at her shedding a tear and she yells "no!!" fighting her brothers, but her brothers force her in the car and head to safety. A romantic scene of the hero sacrificing himself for the love of his life, would give you the angst and the hurt but one of a couple being separated forcefully. Not one hurting the other.
Serge knew that saying those words would break her heart, and I HATE it when the hero does that!! It ruins it for me and it is unforgivable. Also, why didn't her brother tell her once they are in the car, that he didn't mean it, and it was just a way to make sure she left before his father arrives?? He did tell her after, but she was a wreck! I just hated this whole angsty sequence of events. It was not necessary and it ended in him coming back bruised and battered from his father beating him to her jumping in his arms. No apology, no getting on his knees explaining himself and groveling, we instead go straight to the epilogue. THE END.
I tried to feel bad for the hero I really tried. Him and his brother were under their father's rule and if anger and hatred is all he knows, then it is normal for him. He doesn't know better, but after he knows the light and warmth of Olivia's love and his love for her, how could he break her heart and purposefully hurt her in the worst way like he did? He really did think he was going to die by his father's hand, but I still don't think he deserves forgiveness for the words he said to her. There are a thousand ways he could have gotten her out of harms way, anything but what he did would have been better.
There is also something the heroine and her dad have like a little game they play, it is giving a quote and having the other name the famous person who said the words. As it happens, when she quotes someone, the hero names the famous person who said it. It is meant to be something special between her and her dad and now her and Serge, but I just didn't feel the connection. It was a good attempt, but the mercurial hero and the hatred and violence shared between the two made the 'heartfelt' moments, feel forced and awkward, rather than sweet and endearing.
Anyways, I did not like this MINK book. I did enjoy when we got the hero to be really sweet and passionate and pour his heart out to his Olivia, but it was all ruined in the end. I don't know what happened, but I know this.. I will not reread 'Villain's Prey'.
I hope the next MINK book will be better.

Enemies-to-lovers with a touch of Romeo and Juliet. I think it's a good bet :-)

I was surprised at the intensity between these characters. Olivia and Sergei go at each other's throats with wild and feral abandon! It's exhilarating and very sensual.

In line with this author's style, the chemistry is hot and fast. There's a very strategic appearance of a cat, which I adore. And no matter how impossible their love is, this couple finds a way to love fiercely, protect each other and just find their happily ever after in the midst of bloodthirsty feuds, arrogant kidnapping and a lot of bodily encounters.

I have plenty of favourite parts. For example, when she's taken from her family, how he violently realises that she's not what he thought of her, or when she returns to her family and all hell breaks loose. Loved it!

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

Usually MINK’s books have mayhem and mischief but this one felt a little darker because of Sergio’s inner monologue of hate for Olivia, the threats of violence and rape, and his crude treatments of her. Thankfully Olivia is no pampered spoiled mafia princess, she is smart, sassy, cunning, and gives as good as she gets.
Sergei kidnaps Olivia from her sisters baby shower, to avoid a bloodbath she agrees to go with him peacefully, that only lasts until she is alone with him in the car. She headbutts him and tries to run their car off the road. She knows she’s going to die, we she is going to take him with her. He is able to avoid an accident and then rips her top and exposes her breasts and tie her hands, he is rough with her. He is feeling things he didn’t know how to deal with so instead of delivering her to his father he takes her to his safe house. All that anger builds to passion and soon they are enjoying sexy times and soon after I love yous.
When Olivia’s brothers track her down she explains that she and Sergei love each other and she wants to stay with him, but before they can all make happy family Sergei’s brother, Sal calls and said Luka was on his way. Sergei lies cruelly to Olivia to get her to leave with her brothers to protect her, breaking her heart.
Much more drama with his horrible dad. It comes out that his dad, Luca raped Olivia’s mom before her dad could save her. Her oldest brother, Vincent is half Luca’s, he just doesn’t know it. Luca wants Olivia because she reminds Luca of her mother and he wants to rape her like he did her mom.
Sergei tells him he let Olivia go and the dad beats him pretty bad, Sal helplessly has to watch. Then Luca tells him to kill Sergei, Sal takes the knife offered by Luca and pretends to go in for the kill but whirls and throws the knife at Luca who anticipates the betrayal and sidesteps. Then bullets start flying. Olivia’s brothers have arrived. They know Sergei lied to save Olivia and tell her, she and her parents ask the boys to bring Sergei and Sal back to them and kill Luca. Her older brother is told he is Luca’s son due to the rape, he is out for revenge for his mom and sister. Both Sergei and Vincent fire fatal shots and kill Luca.
Back home Olivia is so happy to see Sergei alive, epilogue a few years later with a little daughter.
Sergei is hard to like in the beginning but you get to understand him a little more as the book unfolds. It’s sad him and Sal grew up with such an evil monster for a father. I would have liked Luca to suffer a lot more before his son’s delivered to fatal shots. Loved Olivia’s sass and once Sergei was committed to her it was sweet, though a bit jarring after reading his hate filled earlier monologue.

Who really is the prey....the hunter or the hunted

# loud girlie giggles.....I am a huge fan of Mink! I grab her books as soon as they come out, and let me tell you this book was no different! In true Mink fashion Trash steals the show from Sergie and Olivia. But don't let them fool you...this is a beautiful love story that has you rooting for a "bad" boy. The sparks and fireworks from these two had me on the couch and not moving to the end. I definitely recommend reading this story!!!

some trigger/content warnings needed

I am a big fan of Mink, typically love the work, and really enjoy the entire mafia world the author has created. This story was a little too dark for me. I really would have appreciated TW/CW for s*xual violence. I had a hard time buying the romance because I was so uncomfortable with how Sergei treated Olivia at the beginning. Then later, there is more explicit detail of another character’s experience. Writing was fine, of course spicy scenes. Just - be aware if you’re affected by these triggers.

I love Mink's books; they never disappoint. Trash the cat stole the show. I still can't believe he named his cat that. lol

𝒴𝑜𝓊 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒 𝒾𝓉 𝓇𝑜𝓊𝑔𝒽, 𝓅𝓇𝒾𝓃𝒸𝑒𝓈𝓈?

Sergei definitely met his match when he kidnapped Olivia, the Fernandino princess.

𝐼 𝓌𝒶𝓃𝓉 𝓉𝑜 𝒻𝑒𝑒𝓁 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝓌𝓇𝒶𝓅𝓅𝑒𝒹 𝒶𝓇𝑜𝓊𝓃𝒹 𝓂𝑒.

She does not take any of his crap; she dishes it right back at him, and she doesn't go down without a fight. Sergei has one job, and that's to bring the princess to his father, but Sergei has other plans.

tw/cw: kidnapping, rape (not of FMC), gun violence

Frankly I wanted the MMC to just drop dead in the beginning, the crass internal monologue he adorned had me wish for the car crash to happen.
But OHH THE WAY THE TEMPERATURE ROSEEEEEE
I almost forgived him for pulling hurt her, to save her on the FMC
Almost.
I hate the trope, abso-fucking-lutely abhor it.
Keep it away. WOSSHHHHH.

Not my fav, but the scenesssss wwwwoooooffff, does an amazing job.

Una instalove bastante corto y entretenido. Me gustó la personalidad de Olivia. Fuerte y decidida.

Mink never fails to deliver an incredible story.

Sergei kidnaps Olivia with clear orders to deliver her to his father. He is surprised by her beauty and sass and his reaction to her. He quickly decides he can not hand her over and allow his father to fulfill his horrendous plans.

Like every Mink story, there is spice and chemistry and wonderfully developed characters.  It is fast-paced and action-packed, and the epilog is perfection.

What happens when a villain kidnaps a princess?

Sergei must kidnap Olivia for his father's nefarious purposes. His been told her entire family thinks they are better than him and his family and they need to be taught a lesson. When he gets to know Olivia a little better he wants her for himself and he'll keep her safe from his father. But what happens when both their families come looking for them? This is a great read and I highly recommend it.

Wow what a book. Some of the side characters storylines was a little darker than usual and deals with some trigger warnings but luckily the story between the main character was not at all trigger warning worthy and just swoon worthy. I loved how sassy Olivia was and how she was no wilting flower and was ready to save herself. And Sergei was so funny he tried so hard to resist Olivia but “that mouth” did him in. I loved them together so much!

Sergey and Olivia

What a fantastic story. It got me hooked from the very beginning and didn't relent until the end.
I loved Sergey and his murderous anger, determined to kidnap Olivia, the precious daughter of his enemy, and give her to his father. He knew what his father was going to do to her and didn't care... until she saw her and sl get were off. He would go against anybody; his father, her father, hell..the devil itself to keep her. Highly recommended

fantastic

This book was Fantastic!!L well written, well plotted and ohhhh so HOT!!!

The storyline moved so quickly from kidnapping to intense heat, but it flowed so easily which is why Mink is one of my favorite Authors.
Her stories are so well written they flow like butter.
Olivia and Sergi are one hot couple. The history of the two families comes to light and really brings this story together.
I absolutely adored this book!

steamy

This, as with all of MINK’s books, is a steamy, over the top romance. Sergei and Olivia and a fiery couple with out of control chemistry and a great story. My only complaint is the end. I just felt it left things unsaid. Did Sergei take over or did one of the other brothers? But other than that (and that’s just a me thing) it was a great read.

As always, loved this book by my fave author! Not much to say about it, I don't want to give anything away. Mink always excels at the characters she creates and the world they live in. I think my favorite thing about Olivia is that she's not some prim princess waiting to be rescued. Loved it!!

Villain’s prey turned queen🥵

If I could say one word to describe this book, I’d pick addicting. So if you like reading a mix of dark romance and complete devotion, then you’ll love this book. Olivia and Sergei were pure chaos that ended up being perfect matches for each other, and I couldn’t get enough of them. Trust me when I say you won’t be able to put this down.

Okay story.

I usually give MINK books 4 stars, but I couldn't give them to this one. The H was not likeable for awhile. He gave his cat the horrible name Trash. I did not like what he said to the h to get her to go home. He did not need to do that because he had an other way to do it. I like the h. This is not a book I will read again.

Spicy quick read!

Fast paced, spicy, mafia romance. What more would you ask for?

Honestly I wouldn’t have minded a longer version because I loved the characters so much. I loved that it was a quick read all the same. Love the banter between the FMC and Mmc. Will definitely be reading more from this author.

Sergei was amazing! A lot of the times when there’s mafia stories the daughter is the one with a shitty parent the other person rescues her from. It was so nice to have the mafia princess have a positive family life and taking the love interest!

A kidnap story where the kidnapping doesn't go quite to the original plan. She's too strong to let anyone take her easily and he doesn't know what hit him. Spoiler, it was her lol.
